jv, are you buying a new camera?

          YES !!!

most likely a 70D, to replace an ageing 400D

        • +1

@jv: Good choice. I have an old 400D as well, a good DSLR but no longer in use (as I am now using Olympus OMD EM5). My sister recently just bought a 70D from Digital Camera Warehouse for $900, it is a very nice and more solid DSLR than 400D.

    • That's a cracking price. Mighty tempting to sell my mk1 and grab this.

      • Hell, it's mighty tempting for someone who's been waiting ages for a pocketable, low light camera. But I might hold off… just started using a Lumia 920 a month or two ago so need to see if that's sufficient for my social snaps needs.

        • Haha, that's fair enough. But if you have any interest (and the funds to back that interest up), all of these large sensor compact cameras (LX100/G7X/RX100III/Ricoh GR) are simply amazing.

Still contemplating selling my RX100-I: I see they're still worth about $350-$450 second hand, which offsets this upgrade considerably…

        • @LaTerrible:

Yeah, the larger sensor cameras do produce better results but I now have second mortgage too so, whilst I have the funds for the mk3, it's better I don't spend it.

I do have a Nikon V1 but I don't get around to using that much though that's not exactly pocketable. Good travel kit though (esp after I bought the 10-100mm, 18.5mm and 6.7-13mm. The later is still on order - no silver stock getting sent in… and no ETA from Nikon. Kinda makes me feel better for being a Canon man when I chose between Nikon and Canon for my DSLR.

    • Do you know on how to claim the sony redemption for accessory pack?

    • Can this claim bonus accessories pack?

If no, then this place might worth paying $24 extra for bonus kit?

    • Today, I see the price of MK3 and MK2 are suddenly increased..
      After 10% off, mk3 - 808.00, mk2 - 629.00

  • Thank you digi direct.

  • Do they sell grey or local stock?

      AU Stock

  • +1

Doh!! 1 day too late for the Fuji Cashbacks!! :(

  • Hopefully JB will pricematch so I can use gift cards - anyone done this before?

    • Always worth a shot - JB will have their lowest sale price on file, so they should be able to tell you with minimal fuss.

    • Unlikely. BEFORE the sale, DigiDirect had the RX100 Mk3 for 750 with a decent bonus pack, JB Hifi had it for 900 with a $150 gift voucher. They tried to claim that 900 from them with a gift voucher for their store is same as just paying 750 at Digi…

Can try your luck, but as per recent discussions, I think it is better to support the store that is offering the outright best price. I've been so impressed with Digi Direct lately.

  • anybody know if any B&M stores (ted's, camera warehouse, etc) will price match this? Looking for an nikon 85mm and at this price, going grey is just stupid.

    • +1

I know of only a single Ted's store that price matches Aus stock. The others i've tried just go, 'if it's so cheap, go buy from there then, why come here?'

      • +1

Fully agreed. I've tried and their prices are nowhere as good as digiDirect, CamBuy, Leederville and Camerapro.

        • Ok Thanks guys. I'll try Ted's but I don't like my chances. Don't mind buying online, but I'd rather get it from a store that's in driving distance is all.

        • @mit: Try Ted's but don't expect much, usually they will say that the other's price is too low, best we could do is blah blah which is about 20~50 bucks off their original price

      • Not sure about Ted's in Brisbane.. but the one in Melbourne sucks. Had two experiences. First, the guy was really helpful so I bought from there. The next time, a different salesman was so rude and ignorant (kept claiming Ryda and DCW aren't Aus stock) that I just gave up and decided never to buy from there again.

    • +3

I personally wouldn't buy from Ted's - they're just another chain store pretending to be a specialist camera store. Their staff are usually not that knowledgeable, their service isn't great, the seem to spend more dollars on marketing than looking after their customers, all things you'd expect from a specialist store.

If you want to buy Aus Stock, Digital Camera Warehouse, Digidirect, CameraPro, Paxton's and Michaels…etc. are all much better than Ted's.

    • Just to update you guys. Only 1 out of 3 I called had stock, and the one that had stock only had 1 and wouldn't price match it but got within $20 I think. There was one stpre which the employees were told to match any legit price for boxing day only. Not awesome but they weren't rude on the phone at least.

At least I know which one to call next time. But yeh. I just ended up buying from digidirect - didn't realise there was one in Brisbane til this morning lol :S

  • +3

digidirect is good.. but guys do check out http://www.camera-warehouse.com.au/ as well as i've found a few of their items are cheaper (normally) even factoring shipping.. there are some that are still cheaper even with digidirect's 10% discount too (for eg Sigma 17-50 f2.8 $370 + $15 delivery vs $448 + $15.90)

    and yes they're aussie stock

    • but guys do check out http://www.camera-warehouse.com.au/

Wow, just checked out camera-warehouse and they are $323 more expensive than digiDirect on the 70D kit…

      • +1

Yeah I didn't say all but for the sigma lens I linked they're significantly cheaper even with digidirect's 10% off

I think you're comparing CW's price before cashback with DD's price after cashback. Be that as it may yes they are more expensive.

Their lens prices are more competitive compared to their cameras.

        • +2

Yeah ended up getting a sigma lens from them instead of digidirect, but a lot of the canon stuff are cheaper at the latter. Though some of them seem to come with bonus bags and stuff.

        • +1

I think you're comparing CW's price before cashback with DD's price after cashback.

          camera-warehouse = $1644 - $150 = $1494
          digiDIRECT = $1321 - $150 = $1171

          That is a $323 price difference…

        • @jv:

          whatta ripoff then :)

        • @CVonV:

          whatta ripoff then :)

It looks like they haven't dropped their price on this camera all year, even though most other camera stores have been dropping in price throughout the year.

        • @jv:

          yeah very weird

but i still stand by that sigma lens deal from them at least ><

  • hows the sigma 50 1.4 art people?

i have the 35 and its good? I sold by non-art sigma 50 simply due to the clunky af

    • Reviews said it is as good as the 35mm, just different focal length. But it is massive!

    • The 50mm Art is almost universally praised for being super sharp, very low CA and fairly nice bokeh. AF also makes it advantageous. Not as good as the Otus though, but that's as expected.

      • I don't particularly like the bokeh on it. But, it is sharp, and the AF (on Nikon) is damn fast.

i have the 35 and its good?

        Are you asking us?

    • +1

The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art is a great 50mm lens. I would say that it is the absolute best, unless you look at the Zeiss Otus as well.

However, as with everything, it's not just about how good it is but how it compares for the asking price. You already have the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art - so you already have a focal length that is quite similar to 50mm, is it worth dropping $800 on a lens so similar to one you already own? I'd say no.

My recommendation would be to have a look at an 85mm f/1.8 instead, an 85mm/35mm combo makes much more sense than a 50mm/35mm combo, as 35mm and 50mm are actually quite similar.

Even if you're deadset on a 50mm lens, have a look at the alternatives. You have to remember that the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 is a very cheap lens. It is like half the price of the Canon and Nikon 35mm f/1.4 lenses. It's a great buy. The 50mm Art is double the price of the Canon and Nikon 50mm f/1.4 lenses, so the value equation is flipped here.

    • I was using a Canon 1.4 50mm as my main lens for ages. I have pretty much all the L's (85 F1.2, 100-400, 24mm TS, 100 macro etc) and i upgraded to the 1.2 50mm which was just too soft. I bought the Sigma 50 1.4 art due to the sharpness, and it is now my main lens which i use 90% of the time. The bokeh is not as good as the Canon 1.2 but it is a better lens on a canon than any other 50mm with AF.

I don't care about the red ring, it is just better than anything else (with AF)

  • Canon 6d @ $1433 after cash back. mmmmm

    • I considered it too. But it is very likely to be replaced by the Mk2 next year. Canon have not released a new or upgraded full frame DSLR for two years.

      • It's a business decision. Also means resale values stay relatively high for a protracted period of time, but negative being they lag behind the competition, most apparently recently re: mirrorless cameras.

    • The 6D and the 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens purchased as separate items is $2057 after double cashback. It's $2120 for the kit with single cashback.

      • It's $2120 for the kit with single cashback.

but if you want some accessories, batteries, lens hoods etc… you get to spend $200 and only pay $50…

        • I wanted to point out that it is cheaper to buy the body and lens separately to get the double cashback than to buy them as a kit because you'll only get a single cashback. Same thing goes for the 70d and 18-135mm IS STM lens.

        • @grababargain:

I wanted to point out that if you need accessories, it is cheaper to get the kit…

  • Was waiting for them. Looking for D5200 at 574$. Gonna buy it in store tomorrow.

  • +1

    Tomorrow? It is on already!

  • For canons cashback. To claim the second $200 off can i buy a battery grip for $199 and a lenscap for example? Or does it need to be one item valued over 200?

    • at least $200

    • Any other items from canon. The total of the items should be +$200 (for example canon 50mm with a battery)

      • Gotchya, Thanks

        • and must be on the same receipt.

  • Should have waited. :/

  • awesome

Excellent price for the x100s if you have ever been considering one - coolest little camera I've owned.

    http://www.digidirect.com.au/digital_cameras/fujifilm/fujifi…

I paid north of 1100 just over a year ago for one.

    • X100s is a great camera. Expect prices to drop though, X100T has just been released.

  • Is 430 ex2 eligible for the cash back?

  • just note guys that the prices shown for those with canon cashbacks are not calculated correctly

    for eg

Canon EOS 6D Digital SLR Camera Body
    $1,792.00 ~$1,592.00*~ $1,433.00

when you add it to the cart they correctly take 10% off first (in fact it's just under 10% because they don't include the cents) = $1613
so the final price will be $1413 after $200 cashback

so yeah the prices which have asterisks (cashback applicable items) are listed as actually being more than what you will really pay in the end (becausey they apply the 10% off after the cashback).

    • Odd, I thought the same thing, but on the actual item pages I've looked at so far they have calculated the discounts correctly - eg apply 10% Then subtract cashback

      • yeah you're right. it's correct on the actual item pages but not in the listing pages.

  • Dji Phantom 2 /Vision / Vision+ battery for $122. Cheapest price I've ever seen them.

None of these cameras can match my iPhone 6 PLUS

    • Lol. I will sticky tape my s3 to the back of 6d and then you won't be able to tell the difference.

    • ture.. light weight. decent quality

      • It was a bit of a loaded comment but I'm pretty amazed at the quality it produces for a phone, better than any point and shoot I've used. A lot of of split second processing must occur to create such fantastic pictures. The massive 5.5 inch 401 ppi display also helps when your viewing them straight after.

        • +1

better than any point and shoot I've used

This can't be true. The iPhone has a great camera, but it's nowhere near the quality of even a mid-range point and shoot.

Sure, it's convenient, it's easy to use…etc. But its technical image quality just isn't as good as a mid-range point and shoot and I doubt even any better than a budget point and shoot.

        • iPhone 6 plus I'm talking about. There was a significant improvement over the 5s's. Have a look at the raving reviews if you don't believe me. I think it's mainly the sophisticated post processing integrated into the camera.

        • +1

          @Davo93:

I think it's mainly the sophisticated post processing integrated into the camera.

post processing can be done on a computer…

it's the lens and the sensor that matter more…

        • The point of point and shoot(pun unintended) for noobs is they don't have to do much only just click the button. Device does it for you and you don't even have to think.

        • +5

I'll take a Sony RX100 MkIII over an iPhone 6 plus thanks.

        • @Davo93:

          Spare us David.

        • @Davo93: iPhone 5s or 6+ there ain't that much improvement to tell there is a significant difference in image details. Upload the photo on to a PC/MAC and you'll see the difference. For Facebook & Instagram purposes sure, iPhones, Android phones with a good camera are good enough. (I have used iPhone 6+ but returning it as it bent, Note 4 also has a great camera)

The benefit of the phone camera is that it is on you most of the time

          The sophisticated post processing…. Well…

You should try a proper camera one day.
I suggest Sony RX100 mk2 and above to start with

  • +1

Great price for the Sony A7 and Canon 70D. I don't know what to choose between these 2 cameras and the Nikon D7100. Any suggestions guys? :D

    • +6

The Sony A7 will give you the best technical image quality of the three because it is a full-frame sensor. It's also a mirrorless camera. Without getting into the technicalities of mirrorless vs. DSLR, mirrorless cameras are generally easier to use (as what you see is what you get), but their AF systems (at the moment) aren't on par with DSLRs yet and their tracking performance isn't great - they're a no go for sports or wildlife. Also, the Sony FE-mount system isn't very mature at all, there are only a few lenses compared to the Canon and Nikon world.

Between the Nikon D7100 and the Canon 70D, the Nikon D7100 will give better technical image quality. Both of these are crop DSLR bodies. DSLRs are the traditional cameras where you see the 'real world' rather than what your camera sees, so you need to have a bit more experience, especially in terms of gauging exposure, in order to shoot proficiently. Both Canon and Nikon have an extraordinary lens lineup, with anything you could possibly want, almost.

It all comes down to what you like, at the end of the day. I would go with the Sony A7 if all you're doing is shooting family vacations. If you're shooting any form of action, I would go with the Nikon D7100 or Canon 70D. I'm a Nikon shooter, so I'm biased towards Nikon, but both Nikon and Canon are in such strong competition that it's really tit-for-tat, Nikon wins in some places, Canon in others.

    • Sony A7 range is cheaper here I think https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176306

      • I just have a look with the deal u gave me but seem like that guy doesn't have any information about the adaptor redemption and site seem bit dodgy. Digidirect is any better? I found a lot of negative reviews :( Very temped to get the A7.

        • Just go with Digidirect, it's not a big price difference :)

        • @paulsterio: Hi buddy, have u buy anything from their online store and if yes can u share me some experiences with them? I live Perth WA and the only store honored the price is the Sony one ($1142). Tks for ur help again :D

        • @rocknrolla1102: I haven't, but given that they're a store with a great reputation and they've been around for a while, there should be no problems with online purchase.

Just give them a call if you need to ask about the ordering process. I haven't used them before.

  • I wish I could appreciate and understand if any of these cameras were good…

  • damn. $580 for a Sony A6000 with zoom lens.

  • Anybody getting a canon body only? I'm trying to get a lens. Any chance that we can get the second cashback?

  • Saved $1 off my $15 Hoya 40.5mm filter… I dunno about this DigiDirect maths… $1 is not 10% of $15.

  • For someone who is into landscape and storm photography (with a possibility of portrait), under 1k what would everyone do? I am thinking the canon 100d, as I have small hands, and it felt more comfortable in the hands. 474 after cashback

Add in a canon 10-18mm lens for $328, and I'll get an extra 100 cash back. Makes it 228

    Total is just over 800.

I have looked at the Nikon's, but in this price range you lose the features such as touch screen, adjusting aperture in live view (apparently), and a low end wide angle lens, for the gain of IQ and dynamic range.

As I use a lightning trigger with nd filter, low shutter lag is important

    • For someone who is into landscape and storm photography (with a possibility of portrait)

Add in a canon 10-18mm lens for $328

I'm no pro but would f4.5-5.6 be fast enough for that?

      • You'll mostly be at the wide end at f/4.5, which isn't that slow. I know you'll get decent results with f/4, which is what I use (Nikon 16-35mm f/4).
