I have looked at the Nikon's, but in this price range you lose the features such as touch screen, adjusting aperture in live view (apparently), and a low end wide angle lens, for the gain of IQ and dynamic range.

This is a common tradeoff with Nikon - equivalent Nikon bodies are generally cheaper, but Nikon lenses tend to be more expensive, though there are exceptions or course.

Out of your concerns though, the only real one is the aperture in live view. I'm not too sure on that, I don't really use live view.

But regarding your other points, touch screen is quite gimmick in a camera - it's not implemented well in Canon, so it's not something you'll miss. With the lenses, the Sigma 10-20mm and Tamron 10-24mm are both great and cheap. So if you go to Nikon, get one of them and you'll be happy with the results.

  • Does your research carefully. They have jack their price up before the sale:

A7 promotional bundle should be 1075 according to:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/175252
10% off that should be 967.5

Now their website shows normal price 1,119.00 10% off $1,007.00

whirlpool has already people talking about this and other products too.

Does your research carefully. They have jack their price up before the sale:

I have done my research… They have not jacked up the price on the Canons…

      • +1

yes you're right jv.. they have actually reduced some of their prices too for certain lenses

but syswong was only helpfully pointing out that the A7 bundle has been jacked up, which i guess is the reason why he negged the deal

    • Except I think the deal you listed was a promotional price.

And let's stay real here. The price offered for the A7 is still great, better than most in Aus.

It's also great in terms of value. If you don't want the adaptor and the lens, sell them for $250 ea. You got an A7 for $500! Great deal

    • whirlpool has already people talking about this and other products too.

it seems like only one person is 'talking' about this.

    • +1

I noticed that they have increased the price of Fujifilm X100S as well. It was $899 before the sale started. And now it's $989. But on some others they have good prices.

    • -2

      Another prove their dogey pricing…
      D750 body only:
      Digidirect http://www.digidirect.com.au/slr_cameras/nikon/nikon_d750_di…

      $2237

      JB HIFI: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/cameras/dslr/nikon/nikon-d750-24-3…

      $2039

My friend was going to buy it and I told her is almost $200 difference. She rang up its the same lame excuse (under cost) that they refuse to price match. There is no way digidirect is buying more expensive than JB.

Many product has their price adjusted LOWER from distributors before the Christmas season. Agressive company immediately change their price to get sales while digidirect just kept the old price a wag a so call sale to con you guys in thinking they are cheap.

      • Sometimes jb could be running a price leading loss… or having none in stock?

Other than that…. i think different camrea companies , canon nikon etc. run differnt deals with certain retailers for certain periods. could be a reason

      • It depends on what you are buying and always research before buying.
An example, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM is $844 at digiDirect and $1399 at JB!
digiDirect may not have the best local stock price for the D750 but they have the best price for the 7DMk2 atm - $1862 plus $50 gift card.

      • +1

I don't think this shows dodgy pricing. Just because something is more expensive at a particular store doesn't mean that it's dodgy?

So what you're saying is any store that has the D750 for more than JB HiFi right now (which is most stores mind you) are dodgy? I don't think so.

JB is selling the D750 very cheap - cheaper than even grey imports. So if you want a D750, just get it from JB and don't worry about how much anybody else is selling it for - does it even matter?

        • -5

Fine its their discount is dogey then….

          http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2351456#r45410077

          Sony 24 70 F4 24-70 – $849 @ paxton, 823 @ camerapro

Digidirect $1105 oh wooo!! Nice "DISCOUNT"

        • +1

@syswong: If it's cheaper at Camerapro, then just go and buy it from Camerapro?

        • @syswong:

          oh wooo!! Nice "DISCOUNT"

Buy a Canon then, I can't find better Canon prices for local stock…

        • +7

@syswong: Some of their discounts are awesome.

          @syswong:
So now we have digidirect fanboys in OZB now?? Or is it dgidirect staff come here and neg my comment.

        • @syswong:
          Lol

    • they've raised the price for olympus 45 mm f1.8 as well.

  • Anyone try ordering through paypal? Tried to pay using paypal and it looks like only the first item (of three) got registered in the paypal cart. Guess I'm gonna get an email tomorrow about paying for rest of the order.

  • It's spendin' time!

  • Went into the city and got some lenses and did a lot better at Teds negotiating than digi. Wouldn't match at digi which is fair enough. Overall happy!

  • +2

Went to Essendon DFO this morning on my way to Digi in the CBD. I had the A6000 with the bonus lens kit in mind and stepped into JB there and asked the girl if she could price match. They did indeed - With no questions asked. Had $200 prepaid Visa card I got for Christmas and overall spend was 583-200=$383. Walked out extremely happy and saved a trip to the city.
Something funny though - JB's POS thought she was discounting the camera too much and would not let her do so. She had to try few times and even had to ask the supervisor how to drop to $583 from $799 which is their list price for the same kit. It didn't work and she didn't give up either - I felt really sorry for her and even had to apologize for the trouble. Finally she had to issue me two invoices. $483 for the A6000 body and $100 for the bonus lens. Great job and thanks JB. That is how customer service should be even when he is a ozbargainer!

And now to find a decent prime lens for this. Anyone know of a good deal currently going on for the SEL35F18 ?

  • Teds chadstone gave me an immediate no for a pricematch. The old guy at chadstone never seems to budge.

    • +1

I talked to a few Ted's stores up in QLD. It apparently depends on their budgets/profits for the trading period/month/etc. For eg. Aus Fair Ted's employees were told to match just about anything boxing day only whereas Garden city Ted's would only go to a certain point.

Probs a good idea to ring a different store.

  • +1

Just noticed that the A7 II + 28-70mm kit was $1573 to pre-order last night (which I did), but now it's $1618.
You have to add the camera to your cart to see the actual price. I hope they'll honour the original price since payment is only made when it ships.

    • Hmmmm. I bought another item, and they took the near $2k straight away, then sent an email saying it'll be at least 2 weeks before they get it in stock.

      • I think the difference is your order was for an out-of-stock yet commercially available product, and mine was a pre-order product, albeit one with a confirmed price. Still, since lots of pre-order prices aren't known in advance, it makes sense to make a blanket rule that if it's a pre-order, charge only once it's shipped.

In any case, I've contacted digidirect regarding their pre-order policy (their website is void of any real T&C regarding pre-orders), but I imagine they are quite busy today, so I doubt I'll get a response any time soon.

        • Anderz is right. Called the guy up and as long as you lock in your price on an out-of-stock item by paying the full amount, you'll still get it at that price.

    • $1574 would have been worth a sep post. Great Price. $1618 is still good.

I didn't go near it last night because the page shows $1798 and I only realised now that you need to add to cart to get it for $1618.

    • Is there a charge on your card already?

      • No, which they state up front, but it's also why I'm worried they'll jack up the price upon shipping, whereby it will be too late to shop elsewhere.

What's concerning is that the purchase price is not mentioned anywhere after pre-ordering; the order email just mentions that I'll automatically be billed upon shipping. It would be disingenuous if they do bump up the price upon shipping — fraudulent, even. We'll see what they say when I call tomorrow.

        Did you place an order?
If so, let me know how you go with yours.

        • I bought at $1618. Please keep me posted. I am in the same boat. Pre-Order confirmation does not include a price but at least I have a screenshot.

        • @drb:
called and they quoted the original price from checkout, and said that was what I'd be charged, so pretty happy with that!

        • @Anderz: were you able to ascertain if it includes the metabones voucher? I would think this is a standard inclusion by sony but it is not mentioned in the listing.

        • @drb: that is independent of the retailer and relies on a sales receipt and serial number of the camera, so I'm pretty sure it will. Sonys website lists the a7 ii on the redemption page now too.

        • @Anderz:

Did you get your sony a7 II yet from DigiDirect?

Did it come with the bonus lens 28-70mm and metabones voucher?

Im going to get it tomorrow from the store.

          Thanks!

        • @drb:
Hi drb, I received the camera today in the post, but it did not come with the kit lens, which is frustrating to say the least. Did yours come with the lens? If so, was it in the box, or separate?

(p.s. adapter voucher was included in the box)

        • @Anderz: I spoke to them. All bonus lenses are on backorder and will be shipped late Feb. Camera had already latest firmware which was good.

        • @drb:
Ah ok, thanks for the information. I suppose by now I should not be surprised Digidirect made no effort to communicate that to me. Luckily I impulse bought the FE 55mm 1.8 from elsewhere whilst waiting for the body, otherwise I'd be without a lens right now. Still, great camera for a great price.

        • @Anderz: the beauty of the a7ii is you can use any bold lens. Just buy a cheap Minolta Rokkor and an adapter for $10 bucks and youre up and running.

        • @drb: old! Not bold.

        • @drb:

+1, I am waiting for the 28-70 lens too.

  • The Sony A5000 is $427. I managed to convince the local JB Hi-Fi store to price match.

  • Their order status page is up the creek…

Processing 12 Dec: 11:59 Your order is ready for collection
Pending 12 Dec: 0:12 Order placed.

    • Was the order placed just after midnight on the morning of Friday 12 Dec and ready for collection 12 hours later at noon?

  • Picked up Nikon D5200 for $584 ( after $100 cash back form Nikon ), but the salesman sold me a 32 GB Team SD HC Class 10 card for $55. Now I see that you can get the same SD HC card for $23.95 + $ 1.46 shipping form here : http://www.oo.com.au/Team-Group-32GB-SDHC-Memory-Ca_P124845C…, total amount being = $ 25.41 . Got ripped off by $ 29.59 * not happy * . Also anyone has any experience with Team group SD HC cards ? Are they any good ?

    • SD cards, filters and accessories are where camera shops make their killings.

Team Group are quite a well known memory (NAND) maker, so they should be fine. It's just an SD card, most likely will never fail.

      • Did you open it? You would think they'd refund you with out problems.

        • Nah never opened the packet. I will try to return the SD card tomorrow.See ow it goes.

    • Such a rIf-off. There is a big price difference for the SD card between on-line and in-store shopping. If I was you, I would go back and try to argue with them to have it refunded. Team is a less-well-known brand from Taiwan. For the price about $20, you could go more reliable brand such as Sandisk, Kingston or Sunsumg from ebay.

      • I would never buy SD cards from eBay, full of fakes. Much better to buy from MSY.

        • I would only buy cards from reliable source. Pity I have no MSY nearby and their shipping is not free. Just brought a SD card from PC.BYTE ebay store last week. They have many promotions in ozbargain. It's quick and cheap. http://stores.ebay.com.au/Pc-Byte-Store/SDHC-SDXC-/_i.html?_…

        • @maxdba: Completely agree, SD cards are one of the most counterfeited items on the market because they're so easy to make counterfeits of. Given that buying SD cards from reliable sources is so cheap (even from Amazon) it makes no sense to take risks for a couple of dollars.

    • Why did you agree to buy the overpriced SD card in the first place?

  • Today, I see RX100 prices are increased to mk3 - 8.8.00 and mk2 - 629.00 after 10% discount. Wonder why..

    • I tried to price match the rx100 m3 at jb (as I had a gift card) but they wouldn't go near it. The digi direct price was very good if you like this camera.

  • Just received in the mail one of the new Canon 100-400 Version 2. Was only charged $2344.90 despite being listed as $2588.00.

    Good sellers and quick postage.

  • Did any of you guys received your cameras yet ? I called them and they said that their systems are down and couldn't check my order status

  • +1

Placed order 26/12/14. Order status still on pending.

    • +1

Same. In fact, another order that has actually arrived is still "pending" on their website.

The order I'm still waiting on however is the Sony A7 II, which is still pre-ordering on their site.
Still, poor communication and useless order status system.

    • Same here. Still waiting for my Sigma 35mm 1/4 after 3 weeks.

      • No update on my preorder SEL35 Sony

    • +1. Still wait for my camera…
