I thought this has always been the case?

    • +7

Nope only since about mid 90's if I remember correctly

      • At least since the early 90's.

  • +5

"For the True Ozbargainers the MRT is only 2.10 $ to the city, which might be an option if you are travelling light and don't mind the walk to the hotel from MRT station."

if you have ever been on this line, this is not something you would want to try with baggage.

    • +6

I take the MRT (train), often with 3 or 4 pieces of baggage, and it's never been an issue :-)

Singapore's MRT is actually one of the easier to navigate commuter train systems with baggage…

      • My partner snd I always take the MRT train with 3 pieces of baggages. It is so easy with the MRT transport. Buy a MRT card - the cheapest way to travel in Singapore.

      • its also one of the most over populated for its size. obviously alot of people are using it during off-peak times because once you join the east-west line good luck. for a country with such advanced and progressive rail system, the 3 station airport hop caught me by surprise and is often commented by many travellers. the downtown line only consist of 4 cars which was also an eye opener.

    • +1

Not sure what you're talking about. I did this trip with baggage last month and had no problems whatsoever.

  • +3

    This has always been free

  • +5

    Always free.. not a bargain..

    • +2

Just because it's 'always' been free does not make it "not a bargain'.

By very definition something of value given for free is the ultimate bargain.

      • Most STDs can be obtained for free, but I'd hardly call those bargains.

        • +7

Hey if you find value in them power to you.

      • +3

I did this freebie back in the 90's.
        It's not like it's a new thing.

It's like posting "Free dunnies in Europe, just goto maccas"
It belongs in the travel forums

  • -5

    Changi. Lol

  • It's always free. Might as well post free train ride between terminals and free internet, free cinema etc..

    • Free cinema? Whaaaat?

      • Next to the airport hotel in terminal 3

    • …Might as well post free train ride between terminals and free internet, free cinema etc

Please do:) I need more details about the Free stuff in Singapore, going in two weeks.

Don't know why people get so agitated about a post that makes it thru to the front page. Ahhhh… that's why we have a vote system.

      • +1

Well there is a small cinema with showing couple movies that might be good to kill some time. Free PCs with internet and wifi everywhere in the terminals. There are couple of foot massage chairs you can sit down and relax. The butterflies garden good for some sightseeing.
Though there's free city tour bus as OP stated. I transited there twice with around 5-6 hours gap but couldn't make it either time. Its either booked out or closed (if you transit at night)
There are lots of activities you can do there while waiting, I certainly didnt feel bored at all. Enjoy :)

        • Thanks!! appreciate you taking the time and will try some of the suggestions:)

        • @MMM: No problems, if you can't make it to the free city bus tour. It's not the end, I took a taxi to one of their attraction, Garden By The Bay, $30 each way. While the garden is free, you need to buy tix to the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome ($15 each)
          http://www.gardensbythebay.com.sg/en/home.html
Make sure you allow enough time to come back though

        • @mcp2kpro:

Flower dome is just average. Anyway, that's how I felt. Australia has a lot of gardens and flowers so it might be a bit underwhelming.

The cloud forest is amazing though.

        • @ms: True, I didnt go there either. But Cloud Forest is worth a look.
I didn't have time to check out the whole garden so had to be selective.

  • +10

Not a bargain, it's always free.

    • +2

Yeah, I did this in 1998

    • Completely agree. I did the tour in May 2014.
Please move it to forums as it is not a bargain.

  • It's been this way for ages.

  • +16

thanks OP. While it has always been free, it is a good reminder that not everyone is a seasoned travellers. First time travellers will definitely appreciate this.

    • Still not a bargain, so shouldn't be a deal. Feel free to post in forum.

    • Yep, I've been through Singapore a few times and did not realise this, thanks OP

  • Dupe… I knew I'd read this before, don't know why it was expired though.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/120224

  • This has always been free. not a bargain.

  • I'm sure wifi and drinking water fountains are free too.. Mind blown

    • Well it is mind blowing for an Australian. Most of our airports are too poor and cannot afford anywhere near the same infrastructure that many Asian airports have. Free Wi-Fi is mind blown

      • And you live in the Alice Spring?

        • Alice springs is in Australia.

      • +1

Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide & Darwin airports all have free wifi.

  • +12

wow, what a pack attack mentality exists here. Previously posted deal is marked expired. Im sure OP didnt mean to offend any of you. Thanks for highlighting this OP.

  • +1

Changi Airport is one of the best, plenty to see and do. Very clean and nice.

  • +4

The tour isn't that great and you're stuck on a bus (except for a short break on some of the tours). You're in transit so you will only have carry on luggage and would presumably already have your onward boarding pass. A much better option is to go through immigration yourself and get a $10 Singapore Tourist Pass with unlimited travel: http://www.thesingaporetouristpass.com.sg/singapore-tourist-…. Then explore as much as you have time for on the awesome mass transit system.

If you already have a boarding pass you won't need to check in on your way back, just pass through immigration. Passing through immigration is a breeze since it's Singapore, not a third world airport like Sydney. Australians don't need a visa.

  • Its always free..

  • I agree… this has always bin free!

  • +2

Good to bring it to everyone's attention, but it's always been free.

  • -1

How many stops for jewelry shops?

  • +5

If it has always been free then it's a freebie. Doesn't mean it's not a bargain. The subway sandwich on your birthday has always been free, doesn't mean it's not a bargain.

  • an always free bargain is a bargain :)

    • +1

Not sure what you're comparing Changi to, but it's one of the few airports I don't mind spending time in.

      • the indian restaurant in terminal 2 is one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been to.

        • That indan place is horrible.

        • +1

          @joeno: you haven't a clue

    • of course everything's overrated from your ivory tower

  • jus need some cheap flights to Singapore now :-)

  • Upvoted, not everyone know there are free tour.

  • No need to flog the poster; Lot of things are free and people don't know them. It's a +vote from me.

  • Well im going to singapore next year and I didnt know about this. Dont know whats up with all the negs. Ill take advantage of this. Thanks and have a positive vote from me

    • Only Available for those in transit I believe. If you are going to Singapore as your destination, then it's not free

      • Ahh fair enough then. Noted for later travels :D

  • +1

Why is this always free deal allowed to be posted but I cannot post http://www.justiceharvard.org as it it marked "not posted, not a valid bargain"?

  • knew about this but have forgotten about it. going to singapore next year, thanks for the reminder

  • Free since the 90's… OK but Ozbargain had not been born then? I was… but glad for the reminder going to Singapore in a couple of weeks so may come in handy, thanks!

  • this is an overseas deal. belongs in forums.
