870

I've waiting for this to go on sale again! Logitech UE Boom Bluetooth speakers for $139 from eBay's Australia day sales. Black/Red, White/Blue or White/Red on sale.
LogitechShop is selling this through their eBay storefront and their www.logitechshop.com.au . Runs until 18/1/2015 unless sold out prior, which I assume will happen with these speakers.
I already own one, but am thinking of getting another for my classroom!

If they run out of stock, perhaps go for the 2x UE Boom's for $275 here(49/84 left) and here(15/18 left).

… perhaps 2% cashback too?? (Applies to eBay store, not logitech store.com.au)

  • Are there any Ozbargainers who already owns one to review its sound quality?

    • +13

I own one @ronnknee and they are loud! They barely distort at the highest level, the Bluetooth connectivity to my iPhone picks up within 3 seconds of turning on the speaker, and really fills the room up with warm noise. Bass notes are distinguishable and warm; just don't expect earth shattering sub-bass. 9/10, especially at this price point.

There are some good reviews and comparisons of this device against other portable Bluetooth speakers - this one really does shine.

      • Thanks, I may think of getting one!

        • +2

FWIW this was the review that sealed the deal for me.
          http://www.tomsguide.com/us/ue-boom-vs-bose-soundlink-mini,r…

        • Just seconding that I also have one. A mate who works at JB bought one and recommended it out of all their stock. Couldn't be happier with it. Just beware that the white does tend to pick up dirt so go for the black if you're adverse to cleaning.

        • +4

I just got one from Officeworks. Price beat down to $132.05. Superior sound quality!

    • +2

What jabba said - I have one and the sound quality for such a small speaker is really excellent

    • I have one and love it!

    • +1

I've got two, I use them together and it's awesome!

    • +2

I have one of these and a bose sound link mini - I honestly can not tell the difference between the two.

The bose haters will comment bose is overpriced and overrated - the soundlink mini is an excellent bit of kit - but this is just as good for a lot less. Don't think about it - buy this baby!!!!!

      • this is just as good for a lot less

Care to share where you'd find a Bose Soundlink Mini for ~$139? I agree with you; the Soundlink mini eats the UE Boom for breakfast when it comes to sound quality. If anything you should've noticed that the Bose has a much better bass response (try cranking Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars at full bore using the Bose & the UE at Myer… Bose wins for clarity of bass and treble at high volumes!).

However, the UE and the Soundlink price points are completely different - and unfair to say one is better value than the other because of this fact. $140 device vs $200 device.

        • I think you've misunderstood me

I meant that the sound is comparable between the two (sound link slightly better possibly) and that the anyone thinking about the two should jump on the UE BOOM (as it has comparable sound for a much cheaper price)!!!

Nowhere is the sound link mini for less then $200 - which is why I think the boom is the better buy

        • @flashi007:

Thanks for clarifying!… so why did you NEG the deal?

        • +1

@yojabbajabba: Not sure why it says neg - i never did that. How do i change it? I've reported it to the mods. I love the UE boom and this is a great deal

  • A dumb question: Can we try to price match with JB or OW for Ebay prices?

    • +3

http://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/lowest-pr… - for OW you can price match (5% off) providing the item is IN STOCK (in both OW and eBay) and IDENTICAL. I'd recommend you show them the deal on their computers LIVE so that they can cross-check and price-match.

JB HiFi are a PITA; they probably won't price match.

    • +1

Logitech Shop has the same price on their own website too and you can definitely price match OW from there without too much effort. Best to do to price match over the phone with free delivery if you can. Then if you don't have success with the first person you can call back.

    • -5

No, I can tell you now you will be told it has to be a brick and mortar retail store.

It simply isn't fair to ask someone who pays money to build a location to show case product and put staff out to provide customer service to then cut their prices to that of a ultra-low overhead purely transactional no service business.

    • Went into office works and they refused to pm. Said they didn't match ebay stores as they're too competitive.

      • that is disappointing that you got someone at OW who knocked you back.

…try again, or go with the 2% cash back instead!

      • That's not a valid reason for them to reject you. You may want to complain to the store manager or head office.

        Source: Ex-Officeworks employee.

        • Yeah, I think I might. It's only a few dollars but the principle is worth more.

  • Hi i read that logitech dont honor warranty for items purchased from ebay.Reading ITSaustralia return policy it just says youll get a refund no mention of dealing with logitech afterwards. Does ITSAustralia send an invoice? ItSAustralia have excellent feedback though and their a authorised logitech reseller
I really like ebay prices for logitech products. AND Logitech have excellent customer service ! But after reading this it makes me cautious https://forums.logitech.com/t5/Headphones-Headsets-Microphon…
Anyone have an exp with ebay and logitech honoring warranty?

    • +1

I've done 3 RMAs with Logitech, two of them where eBay purchases and they have had no problem excepting these. They where from buy it now and not auction tho, Maybe they don't do ones that where purchased through auction

      • Ooh thx for making me less ambigious.
note to self dont bid on auctions for new logitech stuff

  • +3

Contrary to the OP's statement this isn't sold by Logitech itself but Logitechshop. Unless I'm mistaken this is part of Fluidtek, and they are a big logitech dealer.

    • +1

      You appear to be correct.

      Here's their website link:

      http://www.logitechshop.com.au/products/on-sale-1?p=1

      Edit: didn't ready whole post.

    • Thanks gadget! Very important to know that this isnt being direcly sold by the manufacturer, but rather a reseller/dealer. Hopefully LogitechShop give out tax invoices for warranty purposes!
EDIT - LogitechShop are an /Authorized Australian Logitech Reseller/

    • Ooh thats good then if this is logitech shop. I brought a m950 from the logitech shop website a few years back that needed rma was an easy process and logitech honored it.
      :)

I don't know about anyone else, but personally I prefer my bluetooth speakers without giant neon coloured crucifixes on the front… something about the crucifix just doesn't make it feel appropriate for a dance party…

Maybe if I lay it down sideways… :P

    • +4

Just play a few Justice tracks at your dance party.

      • +10

My friend said he tried laying his down… found it mysteriously standing up again 3 days later…

  • +1

If you get one of these, you won't be disappointed. Be sure to update the software, and have the software installed on your PC. It's a great little speaker.

    • I haven't done this, what value does the software add? I only control through android, if that makes a difference to your experience.

      • Oops, you're right, I meant the app on your phone. However, the app on your PC allows you to update the software, thus enabling the newly released equaliser settings, etc.

  • Awesome speaker, took 2 for my overseas trip durying Xmas Nye and we had a blast with it on the beach

  • +5

    First time commenter.

Just price matched it at OW Melbourne CBD $132.05.

    http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/145582/27884/photo.jpg

Was thinking of getting JBL Charge 2 but decided on the Logitech after reading below review.

    http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-bluetooth-speaker/

    • Good job! I'm sure this will be the first of many price-matches happening today. Thanks for sharing the love.

    • Which OW in the city?

      • +2

        461 Bourke St,Melbourne, 3000

        • Thanks champ

  • I just bought a black one thanks.
I can vouch for Logitechshop they are great to deal with too.

  • I have had one for the last 6 months. Great speaker, excellent sound and range and great design. Not one for bass heads however but this speaker has well balanced sound and is also good for speech radio and most music types. Use it all the time, one of my best tech buys. Bargain at this price.

  • -2

How will this be as a replacement of car stereo ?

  • is this better than sony x3?

  • +5

Lacks bass, I have this one and the Sony SRS-X3 (both gifts), I ended up setting up the Sony X3, the logitech UE boom has nothing on the X3.

    • +4

Yeah I would agree with that. Compared the Soundlink Mini, UE Boom and SRS-X5 and ended up going with the latter. The sound quality on the Sony is amazing followed by the Soundlink and the UE Boom. The bass on the Sony is also fantastic compared to the other too. The X5 was about $170 on special from JB recently which was a great buy!

      • +3

I got the X5 for $199 with the bonus X2 Sony…. Very very good value and the bass is brilliant.

    • Was reading the review thinking someone has finally toppled the king of lower priced portable blue tooth speakers, the Soundlink Mini, then I got to the part where it says you can't charge the X3 while your playing music…What the eff?

  • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/177060. I already have this, is there much difference.

  • +1

Thanks OP! I already have the Soundlink Mini from the previous $199 deal but I got this (OW Pricematch) to take to the beach, camping etc.

    • what, the soundlink mini is not suitable for beach, camping etc??

      • ue boom is water resistant and dust proof and all that jazz……

      • +2

I feel the soundlink mini is just too nice to take outdoors, plus the battery life, proprietary charging dock and non-water/dust resistance is a disadvantage. It sounds excellent though. Suits office desk, kitchen table etc.

    • +1

You're welcome. Happy to help an OzBrother/Sister/Mother out!

  • +2

Can confirm these are a great little speaker with some very loud output without distortion.

House-mate has one and finds it hilarious to hide it in my room late at night and hit play at the appropriate time! Very loud..

  • Fantastic little speaker - just bought a second to have stereo tunage.

Bass isn't the best but im overly impressed by everything else this thing does.

At full blast playing music over BT mine lasts about 2 hours.

    • Is it stereo? I thought it was just the same output from both to get more volume.

      • You can link two for stereo sound

      • I can't confirm it's stereo with a single unit (can't test right now) although my guess is that it is. With them linked (wirelessly) it will clearly split stereo across two units to give a broader soundstage and better broadcast ability.

        • It has 2x drivers in each UE Boom but I'm sure they run in a coaxial mono setup (one for mid-high's and one for mid-lows)
Photos of the drivers/speakers in the UE

Pairing 2x UEs using the App allows you to either run LR stereo or double-mono.

  • excellent speakers well worth it at this price

  • +2

I bought one based on reviews and i was very disappointed. No bass at all….none. An update introduced bass boost at the expense of sound clarity.

I actually bought a second one just to test out the pair mode and see if it was any better. While the room filling sound was nice, pairing is cumbersome and the bass just isnt there.

It also has no Aptx support and cannot act as an external power bank. These are great features all modern BT speakers should have and many do at a similar price.

If you absolutely need a mobile speaker i guess this will do because battery life is good, its water resistant and relatively small. Other than that there are far better options available.

The ones i recommend TDK A34 trek, Creative roar or the new Denon Envaya Mini.

    • Here's a good video showing relative sound comparison of the UE Boom and a newer BT speaker.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXlkfpHZYzQ

    • The best Bluetooth speaker I've seen is the Fugoo (www.fugoo.com) but it's in a different price point. Horses for courses - the UE is reliable, durable and covered by warranty which makes it great for most people.

      • +2

The UE boom is approaching 150 here and at that price point there are many choices. It's no where near worth $200.

Creative Roar was on sale for $150 a few weeks ago and although its less portable its features and sound quality blow it away.

I think the UE boom would be a good buy at $100 if you plan to use it at the park or beach.

        • Yep, you're preaching to the choir here!

Personally, I bought the ue because I knew it was going to be hassle free - I didn't have to trawl the specs to find the cutting edge, but I figure that in years time I'll be happy I bought an item that hasn't fallen apart or broken because I dropped it once. I think the convenience/peace of mind factor is what makes this a deal, not so much the specs.

      • +1

Fugoo!! Wow…40 hours battery, waterproof, speakerphone capability… Does anyone own one of these? Or has anyone heard the sound quality?? Worth the extra money over the UE Boom?

  • +1

Great speakers, but I'm keen to try out the megaboom! same but bigger. (longer battery life and more waterproofedness).

    http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2015/01/ue-megaboom-the-best-bluet…

  • After looking at different reviews and sound comparison videos on youtube, decided to go with UE Boom. As every one said only con is little bit less Bass compared with others.(But Bass shouldn't be the deciding factor).
It it got Great sound very loud, water proof, easy to carry….I recon for this price this piece is good.
retail price is $197 in Jb Hi Fi and dick smith.
If you dont want to wait try your Luck with Price matching in OW

I ordered one yesterday - I can see from the tracking that it will be delivered today.
I was choosing between the Bose SoundLink Mini and the UE Boom - the Bose has better sound, but not ruggered and the battery life isn't as good.

When I saw this price it really help me make my mind up - UE BOOM!

    • same with me. i was confused between Bose sound linh mini and UE boom. But finally went with UE Boom

  • Have one, they get loud with minimal distortion for such a small unit, not audiophile quality but still very good.
I got another for christmas to pair up in stereo mode. Unfortunately the audio drops out intermittently and it appears to be an ongoing issue for many owners on the logitech forums. Logitech themselves have been quiet on the issue.
Otherwise I'd recommend it as a single unit

  • New version is comming but very expensive Ue megaboom

      Thank you!
I'll add it to the description to share the love

  • Tried one at HN today the sound is very good but the problem is the white part of the speaker got very dirty over time.

    • +2

      Go for black one

    Ordered today, despatched today
    Good service

  • The sx2, sounded good. If you are on a budget might be a good choice. I have a Jabra Soulmate and i am happy with that.

  • +2

Another ozbargain purchase that is a want not need… Thanks, I'm sure it will come in handy!

    • It's just one giant Eneloop in my mind…

  • +1

Ordered yesterday around midday and got mine 8am this morning. Now that's some fast shipping.

    • +1

Got mine today too - ordered it at 11am yesterday! It came while I was settling the baby to sleep so the delivery man got an evil glare…

  • +1

Ordered yesterday around 10Am and UE Boom is in my hands with in 24hrs shipping.
    Very very fast shipping.
Sound is great guys. Cant expect more from this little device.
    Good bargain

  • Just price matched it at OW Cheltenham. $132.05. Still plenty left, no black though.

  • +1

Received mine today also. Thanks OP.

Just one question to those that have received theirs, is there anything that make you think this could be refurbished?
Just I ordered 2 and both had smudge and markings on them both, especially near the micro usb input?

    • Did you order on ebay or on logitech? Thank you !

    • Mine is black and cant see any of that on there. Might be from installing it into packet maybe?

  • There is an update for the software in the speaker if anyone is interested here> http://www.ultimateears.com/en-au/boom
Also the app for smartphone's has a few nice options.

  • Ordered a black one yesterday and was delivered today ( from SYD to MEL). On a side note the USB cable that comes with the black UE BOOM is luminous YELLOW. Since its only used for charging I didn't mind it too much. But a simple BLack or White cable is not too much to ask now is it?
