Yeah I'm wondering the same. I'm interested, but… It has less functionality. The only game I'd be really keen on is GTAV, playing that again in next gen. I'd like Alien Isolation also. But my PS3s get a lot of use for games videos, even PlayTV.
The most inspiring thing about it to me was the revamped controller. I wish it was more compatible with the PS3.
I don't even know if the blu ray player is as good as the PS3 - one thing I love on the PS3 playback is the 1.5x fast forward with sound - it is great for watching extras.
If I got it now it'd probably just sit barely used.
Its not a bargain if you don't really need it.
Keep the functioning PS3 and maybe get a WiiU for the fun games.

GTAV in next gen and first person is definitely on my todo though.

I plan on keeping my PS3 until Sony un-nerf the PS4. The PS3 is still a superior media player to the PS4.
Why they didn't include PlayTV IN the PS4 is a bit of a mystery though.
simple, all new games are out in PS4 with better graphic quality, you won't find any new production game for PS3 anymore.
There are still some games on the horizon which will still include PS3/x360 releases, but it is slowing down.
I called her up and told her the price, mentioned that she could play the new Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts on it (we have an XBox One as well but I didn't want her to hog it for those games) and she was sold.
Also it was her birthday today so it became her present which helped :)
Honestly, I don't think it's worth upgrading so late. Apparently the next edition of the PS4 coming out in ~December, may support 4K…
and uh, what games will support 4K on a PS4?
Not sure about any games (maybe another GTA, since it's 4K on PC). However, I was thinking along the lines of Netflix and multi-media.

It won't happen and if it does, won't be that quick to release new version, same thing happened with PS3, between the normal and slim version.

If the PS4 was backwards compatible with PS3 - I'm sure there would be a stack of more people buying the PS4. Those that were going to buy one, would probably have one by now. For someone like me that didn't buy heaps of PS3 games because they were waiting for the 4, It's great that they're milking the re-release crowd.
It's akin to when Blu rays were just out and everyone still had DVD libraries. I think towards q3 we will have a sleeper title or two that will shake things up. Games like movies, the less hype the better now. GTA V was the only recent title in memory worth the hype!
Yeah pretty sad a remastered PS3 game is the best game for it.
Honestly I haven't played many games on my PS3 since GTAV. It kind of spoiled games for me, making the other games I was playing seem pretty ordinary…
As a reward for myself I'll be buying the Witcher when I complete my studies soon, and then there's always Oddworld and GTAV. I don't really play many games on my PS3 at the moment, but it is always nice to have around when they release something that interests me. I rarely watch Blu-Rays, but it definately plays DVDs better than my ancient Pioneer DVD player.

Sony are coy on release dates - especially around Uncharted 4. Wouldn't be surprised if Naughty Dog slip into 2016 for that one…

Main reason I got a PS4 is for Bloodborne, comes out on the 25th of this month. Although I am also looking forward to Uncharted 4 but that is still a while away.

I've just been so busy renovating our house in my spare time, plus so overwhelmed by how great GTAV was, GTAV remaster was honestly my main impetus. Alien Isolation was also of interest to me too. And Dying Light. But just not quite ready yet. But this price was soooo tempting….

I just hope that if they do bring out a slim, it is still flat topped stackable. I love how the PS4 is rectangular, unlike every damn ps3 model which couldn't be stacked with other components…
I guess if it isn't I'll grab an end of line old model (like I had to do when the PS3 super slim came out, that horrid model)
Don't like AMD chips, they generally run much hotter than Nvidia or intel chips so gonna wait till the PS4 comes with the 20nm process which will mean a smaller and cooler running chip and console.

I've yet to receive any news from them yet and will be travelling out of the country soon, so just a little impatient!
Anyway, just to give you guys an update on the status.
I sent them a Facebook PM (https://www.facebook.com/dicksmithaustralia) and the reply said someone will give me a call back in a few hours.
Got a call from dicksmithonline rep within 1hour, told me the PS4 was out of stock and on backorder.
He wasn't sure when the next batch would come in from Sony, but could take weeks.
Gave me the option to wait or cancel the order for a refund.
Tried asking whether I could pick one up in store at the same price, but no.
Told him I'll wait and see how it goes.
Phew! Item received!! Here's the timeline for anyone that might be curious:

9am Sent them FB message to inquire status, to be told someone will call me back.
10am dicksmithonline rep called to inform PS4 out of stock and on back order. ETA unavailable.
4:30pm Received Dicksmith order confirmation email with Startrack AAE tracking code.
(Item seems to be picked up from Indooroopilly QLD although I live in NSW)

8.30am Received Dicksmith email with attached pdf tax invoice.
9/3 Mon
12pm PS4 safely in my hands
Somewhere along the chain there seems to have been a breakdown in communication. Don't know why they told me there was no stock, when it was shipped the same day I got in contact with them.
Either way, I'm just extremely glad I received it in time!

Sounds like you've suffered from a stuff up if you didn't receive these.
I received my PS4 10am the next morning - they seem to be shipping from Canberra (odd place for a national distribution warehouse if you ask me) which should help you work out how long it'll take to get to you when they ship it.

Maybe they truck them to a local distribution centre and ship them from there because it's cheaper? Mind arrived less than 24 hours from ordering.. was definitely local.
Received mine today at 11:30am very happy :). I did order it before 12pm and received confirmation on the same day. Most will get theirs today or Monday at the latest I would presume.
