  • Approved in branch after mentioning Blitz offer. Melbourne CBD

I got the official welcome letter today (card was recieved last week) and its says on the second half of page 2 i.e. Financial Table

    Credit Fees and Charges

Annual Card Fee No annual fee

On the third page i.e. key facts about this credit card its says

    Annual Fee $395

    Then it continues to say

Note: The Credit Card Key Facts Sheet contains standard information about the credit card you applied for. This information might be different to the information in your financial Table. The Credit Card Key Facts Sheet is not part of your credit contract

So this card has no annual fee ever :)

    Yayyyyyyy

    • +1

"This information might be different to the information in your financial Table."
a really big 'MIGHT' word. just double check to confirm it or you'll regret it later

      • +1

        exactly.

The financial table says no annual fee. The financial table is your offer for the card
The Credit Card Key Facts Sheet is general information about the card that DOES NOT INCLUDE offer details

        • That's the way I interpret it too EC. No annual fee ever.

        • +1

          @unity1:

ill keep the letter. If they try and charge me next year, ill fax them the letter

        • @easternculture:

The letter with the credit cards attached…was it separate from your welcome letter?

Just asking because the bank employee threw mine away. And I'm still hoping it'll show up in the mail.

        • @dumdidum:

          separate letter

        • @easternculture:

          Cheers EC :)

    • My letter has the same thing :) Did your letter say anything about the bonus points, as mine doesn't.

      • neither does mine.

  • Had a black card before I switched. Can I ask if this offer is still valid for me?

    • +1

I have a Black Earth card, I got a Black Altitude card approved in 10 mins (after 20mins on hold)

      • Thanks. will try and call them.

I had a black altitude before I switched to another card as they refuse to waive the annual fee this year. Fine by me. Maybe this offer will do it.

  • Just applied for a card this arvo, came on OzB and saw this.
I went Platinum only because of the annual fee, wish I'd gone black. :(
Also, bird never said anything about waiving fee, reading this now thinking….. doh! :(

    Will ring them tomorrow.

  • Bird??

    • Female that works at the bank.

  • Can anyone confirm if this worked at St George, Bank of SA or another other bank from the Westpac Group

  • +1

Called & got shafted by the call centre. Told that "There has never been a no annual fee promotion on the Black card".

Will try the Brisbane CBD branch to see if there are any posters.

    • Lol, it's ridiculous how they give different stories all the time.

Just walk into the Queen St branch in the CBD, they'd definitely know about it, I picked mine up from there and confirmed points/annual fee.

      • Great will do!

      • +1

        Approved. Thanks op!

  • I got declined over the phone, thinking about trying again in person as it doesn't make sense (have a Westpac corporate card, no debt, no mortgage, 100k job)
Are the successful applicants here stating (or overstating) other card debt?
Do you all have other Westpac accounts?

  • In the last year just one. I do have a number of cards but only mentioned two as the others are just used for travel.

    • Have you checked your credit score by one of those free websites going around? Based on what you're saying, the only thing I could think of is a high existing credit limit from other cards making them not want to approve the minimum $15k limit (but I'm far from an expert).
That's the concern I have about applying; my current two credit cards have about $25k limit between them, which may hurt my chances when declaring that

      • Thanks. Yeah, that could be it. Both my cards have a 20k limit each.

        • +2

Could also be that they can see the other cards on your credit profile, and wondering why they weren't declared.

  • So I got my cards from the branch… but there was no accompanying documentation!

Will this arrive in the mail or email?

    • Probably not. I called Westpac today to create an online account, and find out what my customer number was :-P

    • Yeah, come think of it, I haven't got that sheet which summarises your credit limit, annual fee etc.

      • Yeah! That was exactly the info I was after…

        • Update, I received an email today with this information.

  • I got approved over the phone last week. was told gonna get email to indicate when to pick up in branch in 5 working days.

It's been 5 days since and no email yet.

Should I ring them again ? How long did it take for everyone else ?

    • Have you picked up your card? How long did it take?
I have received the pin in the mail but still haven't been told to pick up the card.

  • Applied in branch today, had to ask for it pretty explicitly and she noted that in the application I was after the no annual fee and points to indicate she didn't push it on me, perhaps they're cracking down on bankers giving people too much credit (I already have an Earth Black). She didn't have to select a deal, apparently it'll be applied automatically.

  • Crazy. Picked up cards in branch early last week and have even used it.

Letter dated 19/3 comes today with a new PIN…which I'd already set when I picked up the cards.

Hope to hell they haven't reset it on me!

Anyone know when how long it takes points to appear in QFF account after a purchase?

  • Applied today. That makes it 100k worth of (pending) points in a week!

  • How strict are they on salary requirements

    • +1

when I went in branch to pick up the card, they got me to sign a slip with notes to the teller "prove of income must fall within 10% variance, otherwise call credit card centre on (xx) xxxx-xxxx"

  • Called in today and credit dept said if your fee is waived, you cant get the Quantas points.

Also on the T&C it says you have to pay the annual fee to be eligible for Points

    • luckily i applied via phone and the call recording would confirm me being eligible for 60000 points

      • Did you get a fee waiver as well? In branch?

    • Go to the branch. They all seem to know about it.

      • I did go the branch to apply for the card. Told him about FOUR times about the annual fee waiver + Quantas points

The guy said he put the promotional code in. Called this morning to Westpac credit department, no codes were put in. and no points if fee is waived. :(

        • Just tell him it's not your problem, and you want to speak to his manager. Threaten to cancel if they don't want to play ball.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

They asked me why i wanted a waiver. Seriously?
Anyway, they said fee waiver and quantas points are two different promotions and can't do both

  • hmm anyone got T&C saying different ? looks like WP are playing silly buggers .. but then they have with this whole debacle .. with the comms of this offer !

  • Got approved but it seems I made a noob mistake by linking it to the Altitude rewards instead of the Qantas rewards. Will find out if this can be changed next week when I get the card.

Maybe the Altitude points will be better for redeeming gift cards anyway?

    • +1

I imagine it I'll be better for redeeming gift cards, because you won't have people lecturing you about why flight upgrades are better value. Good for you!

      • *will, not I'll

      • +1

        Can't agree more with this.
Flight upgrades/flights are only better value if you had to/have to go anyway. Otherwise you're just spending money.

But, I checked. QF points are better for Gift Cards…

        • That's a simplistic view. The more you have, the higher the incremental value.

280k points is worth ~ $2k of gift cards. For ~ $800 in taxes, it's worth a RTW business class fare, which would go for up to $10k (you won't get it less than $6k ever).
420k plus a similar amount of taxes will get you a RTW first class trip, which would ordinarily cost over $20k.

Of course, if you don't have any interest in experiencing luxury travel, the gift cards are better value.

        • ^ here's that lecture :-P

        • @muncan: Not a lecture, just explaining why the poster is wrong. :p

        • +1

          @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

          Simplistic but happy to discuss.

I probably should have reworded what I said to "Flight upgrades/flights are only better value if you had planned to fly (in that particular class) anyway".

If you had to buy the ticket at its full price, you wouldn't. If you really had to pay full price anyway, you would probably pick the cheapest direct route, which is not necessarily what you would pick if you're forced to picking a particular airline because of points. You might also wait for a sale fare.

In addition to this, it is arguable (obviously varies from situation to situation) that a stopover of at least a few hours may be preferable if flying business/first, especially if flying long distance. This is because you will usually get lounge access which in itself has value, and to really use the lounge you'll need to be able to actually spend time there.

Furthermore, points are more valuable for long-haul flying (relative to the cash value). If you don't ever intend or have a need to fly long haul, this instantly reduces the value.

Also, for those who want to just get from A to B for the cheapest price possible (i.e. they would only really fly Economy anyway), the value is also reduced, as economy class tickets by redemption are not great value.

The thing about gift cards that makes it so easy is that you almost know you'll be using it (i.e. you would have spent that money anyway). Most people will go to Coles, Woolies, Westfield or pump petrol at Caltex/BP/Shell within the validity of their gift card.

Ultimately, I think saying points are better value for flights is too out of context. It seems to go by the assumption that everyone will fly or wants to fly (in luxury). There is no need for such as assumption with gift cards, because it is a given that a household will spend at places where you can/will use the gift cards.

          edit: lol what. Lecture?!?!

        • @illumination:

And didn't once address the fact that some people will happily pay for business or first, given the cost of not doing so is maybe a grand difference for business class.

(i.e. pay cheapest economy RTW incl taxes ~ $2000, receive $2000 gift cards. Or, pay <$1000 taxes, and get RTW in business class.

I'm happy to pay the $1k difference.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

And in response to everything else I've said?

Certainly cannot deny that. It is only for these subset of people that the return on points is better used on business/first class long-haul flights. Again, for this "saving" to be a true saving, it must be:

          • a flight that you actually intended to go on anyway out of desire/necessity (i.e. did not do it just because you had points lying around)
          • in that particular class (you would have paid business class/first class anyway)
          • on that particular airline (you always intended to fly Qantas SYD-LAX, even though United/Delta/Virgin may have been cheaper or CX with a HKG stopover where you can use their lounge)

It's just a little misleading if people go around saying "points are much better used on flights" - it just doesn't give enough context whatsoever. As I mentioned above, the gift cards valuation is consistent for all. Certainly at least for a larger proportion of the population than business/first class fare valuation. It is not flights are never/not at all better value. It is just quite a number of conditions need to be satisfied.

        • +3

Guyz, love you all, etc. However - this is supposed to be the thread on not having people lecturing you about why flight upgrades are better value.
          Thanking you, peace out, etc.

  • Applied over the phone This morning approved for no annual fee and 60k in qff points. Cheers op. Takes the total free points to 120000 this year!!!

    • How do you prove your income over the phone?

      • I have to take 2 most recent payslips to local branch

  • anyone have any luck with them refunding the annual fee if you signed up but didn't get it waived?? and btw, received my 60000 bonus points yet. 45 days after signup.

  • Cheers op

Picked up my sexy new black cards yesterday! Robina Qld branch if anyone's interested. Lady confirmed with card hot line by phone while I waited, I'm good for the waiver AND 60k points!

So happy I signed up just to say thanks :-D

    • I got mine from the same branch. The young girl I dealt with was nice, but man, she can talk.

  • Just went to QV branch today and got approved. Didn't even have to ask for fee waive, she just straight up said that it's a special offer. I also got it in an email from her confirming 60k points and first year fee waived.

  • Is it open for people on 457 visas?

    • So long as you drop a few pineapples Peter Dutton's way.

  • yahooo…applied this morning and approved instantly :)

  • i can confirm you can get the same offer over the telephone. tip dont accept the 3.99% balance transfer. make a purchase first so that you qaulify for the 60k qff points then pay it off and the following month call up and ask for the 0% balance offer. does any one know the promo code to quote for the 0% balance offer?

  • look like westpac has updated the T&C? "In order to be eligible customers must have been charged the standard annual fee. "

    • Classic bait & switch

    • Check in store - may not be the case.

    • Worth noting they've also started offering the card with no first year annual fee for signups online - so it could be this just applies to those signing up fee free online, and the blitz code is unchanged.

    • +1

Nooo this will be bad news for me. Haven't applied yet.. hopefully it's still on.

  • Thanx OP. Got my cards yesterday. Looks sexy in black :-)

  • +4

    Got my 60000 points! Yay!

NB. 40 days post card activation.

  • I've got my card and made some purchases on since 20th March. How long does it normally take for the qantas frequent flyer points for those purchases take to show up? Is it a monthly update?

    • Took my points 40 days to be credited. Although I went for altitude points and not Qantas.

      • What about points for the purchases that you made(not the bonus 60k)?

        • 24hrs usually. They appear on altituderewards.com.au before on the westpac app.

        • @bkx3virgin:

Can't seem to register my card on altituderewards.com.au

Double checked the details and card number and everything appears correct.

Don't suppose there was a trick to doing this?

        • @dumdidum:

The trick is you must opt for the Altitude Rewards and not Altitude Qantas as your rewards program.

        • @Moi:

          Fair enough :P

    • I'd like to know the answer to this question as well.

I too purchased something on the 20/3 and the purchase points hasn't appeared in my QFF account.

I know the bonus points takes 40 to 90 days to flow through but not sure about points from purchases for those of us who elected for Qantas rewards.

  • Anyone with the black and altitude points apply for the Qantas card using the existing customer "apply now" link and been approved? Keen to know.

  • Got my black cards today but noticed there are no Qantas logos on them. Does this mean my cards are not linked to Qantas? Pretty sure my Qantas details was provided. Anyone has the same problem?

    • It's not a problem, it's normal. Mine don't too, when logged into Westpac online it shows as Altitude Qantas Black Card.

      • Might be because you can now switch between Altitude and Qantas points on the same card, check the T&Cs for full details.

  • +1

    TODAY:
just got approved at sydney cbd branch the staff know about this. free fee first year and 60k points. black card next week!

  • +1

Waited patiently for my credit score to recover, approve on the spot yahoooooooo! :D

Thanks OP - if I ever meet you in person, I'm buying you a pint.

  • +1

Got points from first month of spending, but no 60k yet. I see above that apparently it is 40 days post activation which should be coming up later this week though so fingers crossed, hopefully it goes ahead without a hitch.

  • ref " Financial Table

    Credit Fees and Charges

Annual Card Fee: No annual fee"
has anyone who got this letter called up to confirm that it is in fact no annaul fee every year and that they will still get the 60k points? a its great deal if thats the case.
also if you use amex to buy things overseas but choose to pay in aud there's no fee , i wonder if its free and is the exchange rate any good ? also does this promo come with 0% on purchases until oct? anyone else who got posted the card have issues getting telephone banking access and told to go to the branch to link it to their customer number?

    • I got the same, and the financial table was in the email I got to pick the cards up.

Will be waiting until I get my points before contemplating raising the issue.

IMO it's better to just wait until the fee comes next year, then produce the evidence. Easier for them to make it hard for you before you've got the points.

      • Exactly, wait until next year. Keep the paperwork obviously.

        • I checked the terms and conditions - quite explicit that they can change the fees whenever they feel like it. That makes me think when they realise they've done this, they might well just send out a new financial table to the affected cardholders. If we can not bring it to their attention now, we should get a second year out of it.
