Just applied it at the East Perth Branch and got approved. Confirmed I'll be getting 60K Qantas points after first purchase.

    • With free annual fee?
      When does the offer expire?

      • read the OP

  • you sure its 60k qantas point and not 60k reward points?

  • What is the transfer from Altitude to Krisflyer points like with Westpac? Interested in how it compares with Citibank.

    • +2

      2:1 i.e. 60,000 Altitude points = 30,000 Krisflyer points

      • So only go if you're using the Altitude Black Amex.

      • Ok that's pretty much what I'm getting now. Might be worth it to get the bonus points so long as I transfer away before you get hit with the large yearly charge the black card has.

  • Dubai 1st class, here I come again (thanks OP!)

Anyone think that applying for all 3 rewards cards on the spot would be pushing it?

    • I'd say it depends on your credit file.

      • I shall try my luck tomorrow, after applying for the black.

  • Just to be sure….you can get the 60K points for free and then transfer to velocity?

providing you can cancel the card within 12 months and not pay any fees - it sounds great!

  • Already done 3 cards since August last year, probably pushing it trying for this one too.

  • Does the platinum limit the amount of points you can earn over month or year?

  • Any charge for additional card holder?

    • No. You can only have 1 though.

      • Hi
My wife's got a supplementary card on my account.
Can she apply for a seperate one and receive bonus points and fee waiver
        Thanks

  • +3

For Perth strugglers, I went to 40 St Georges Tce branch…all good. One teller didn't know but she asked a guy there who said, yep, starts today (and then the nice lady I talked to confirmed)

    About an hour all up

    • What kind of ID/documentation did you need to provide ? I'm going in tomorrow and want to be ready. Thanks in advance !

      • If you aren't a Westpac customer you need Id. Drivers license and Medicare is enough.

Income proof is sometimes requested when the card arrives in branch after it's been approved.

On the application. Just know your income details, current expenses and loan repayments and work details etc.

        Good luck
        :)

      • you will need proof of income etc when you pick your card up. But otherwise as Reowly says

    • Thanks for the heads up, will try today.

  • Can someone ask about end date when they go in? Wanna delay it for as much as I can but don't wanna miss out.

    • Must apply before April friday 17th. :)

      • Cheers. Just double-checking, that's for the annual fee waiver right?

Also, do you know if it's also available over the phone? That might save us some waiting time at the branch (esp during lunch time).

  • does this promo include business cards? can existing westpac card holders apply?

can you convert existing cards and get this deal?

    • Just personal sorry.
And points are for new applications only.

  • I applied for this online. Not westpac customer. Have a few cc. Got approved for 25k Altitude Black with Qantas.

    • The annual fee is only waived for in branch applications.

    • +1

lol.. good luck with getting fee waived. omg.. why you didnt read the whole post…

      • +1

Dont care about the fee… Yes i did read. Take care

        • apologies! sweet…

        • +7

You don't care about the fee? That doesn't sound like the words of a true OzBargainer.

        • +4

          @Yapapi:

Lol @ not caring about $395…

  • Is it possible to apply if you're already a westpac black card holder?

    • Yeah it's no problem.

  • If we're not offered the Black (in my case would be due to too many recent applications), are we likely to be offered the next best card we qualify for? Concerned that the $15k limit will have higher criteria, and don't want to waste applications.

  • Hmm, I already have the Earth Black fee-free through my home loan package, could I get Altitude too? Plus I feel like I have too many cards already, also having Woolworths QFF Black and ANZ QFF Black (which I should cancel). Or does a real OzBargainer have five cards on the go?

    • +2

I think you answered your own question in that last sentence.
In fact you seem to be missing the 28 degrees card?

  • am a modest earner of $65,000 P.A, successfully got the Amex deal a couple of weeks ago. How many of these cards can you sign up for? I've had CC's for nearly 20 years and never had a late payment so hopefully have a good credit rating. Would love to know how it works though?

    • +1

If you've done nothing wrong with your credit, the only thing likely to affect your rating is number of applications.

  • +2

    Just finished my appointment.
Approval was immediate and the card will be ready tomorrow.

The efficiency in providing this card is crazy. CBA took over a week to give me an upgrade to my existing cards.

Just to confirm - IN BRANCH - you are entitled to the $0 annual fee for the first year AND 60000 points
The Personal banker had this window that popped up on the screen which confirmed this.

    Thanks very much OP!

    • My approval was immediate but I'll likely need to wait 4 business days to pick up my cards. My staff member wasn't aware of the $0 annual fee, but is happy to waive mine when I collect the cards.

This gets me thinking about applying for other banks' credit cards with bonus QFF points and annual fees, and asking whislt applying in a branch whether they will waive the first annual fee (get them to 'price match' this deal). I assume they're more likely to do so in person than on the phone or online. If they can't waive it, then its TTFN.

      • +1

Like muncan, very fast (12 minutes spent in bank) and immediate approval.
Staff I spoke to wasn't aware of the deal either - although they were happy to waive the fee.
I'll have to pay it, but then get it credited back to my account after 1st transaction.
Staff also hinted that all I'd have to do to get the fee waived in future years was visit into the branch…
…not that I'm in the least interested in that, just want my 60k QFF points:)

    • Thanks mate. Which branch did you visit?

      • North Sydney. Walker Street.

    • Did you notice how the approval process worked? Did he just plug it all into the computer, and get the answer from there, or did he seem to have some discretion of his own?

      • From my experience I'd suggest they have incentives for each new card they sign-up, so they'll make sure you get it.

Apparently if the system rejects you they have a number they can call to override.

    • Yes, they can get the card to you very quickly. I applied at 3pm on Friday and the card was waiting for me at the branch at 11:30am on Monday.

  • can anyone confirm required salary levels for each of the card options?

  • Just went into the branch in Hobart CBD and that lady does not know about it. She suggests it might be just particular branches…Can anyone in Tasmania confirm?

  • Just applied for (and approved for) the Black Altitude card with first year fee waived and 60k Qantas bonus points. The whole process consumed 10 mins of effort over the phone. Probably another 20 mins to collect the card from my local branch once it arrives.

Within the last 3 months I have been approved for: (a) NAB’s 40k Qantas with first year free; (b) ANZ’s 50k Qantas with $95 first year fee; (c) Westpac 60k with first year free. I may need to give it a rest for a while …

One thing I don’t know too much about is how best to use the points. My partner tells me that I need to buy more expensive Qantas fares (i.e. non-sale fares) to use points to upgrade from economy to business. Is this true? Should I stick with David Jones gift cards instead?

    • +4

Forget the upgrades. Just use the points on business/first fares directly.

    • +3

Whatever you do, don't buy gift vouchers or anything from the Qantas store.
      Use 'em for flying

    • yes you need to purchase a non "sale" fare.
I purchased a sale fare to LA but could not upgrade because of the type of fare i purchased.

    • how do they do an approval over the phone? Surely they want confirmation of income?

      • I provided income details over the phone. I will need to provide verification when I collect the CC from the branch.

    • +3

You do indeed need to purchase a non sale fare for it to be upgrade.

But the real trap is that the upgrade is a request only, and depends on availability, with CL/Platinum/Gold/Silver all getting a bite of the cherry before Bronze.

In other words, if you are Gold+, and you purchase a non sale ticket, then you have a reasonable chance of upgrading. For lower levels, you have to be quite lucky in order to get the upgrade and book on a day when business class is likely to be more empty.

If you are bronze, you don't want to be deliberately buying a non-sale fare in the hope of getting a points upgrade as your chances are slim to begin with and there is a very good chance that the extra money you have spent on the non-sale fare will be wasted.

I tried both Sydney branches at MetCenter and corner of Pity and Bridge st and staff still insisted that I needed to pay the annual fee. They are not aware of any promotion.

    • just had the same experience… Might try the phone I guess.

  • Walked into a branch, CC applications are by appointment only. Pffft

Called Westpac and got approved over the phone and received approval email.
Application took 30 minutes, another 10 minutes and received approval via email.

All with the first year waived and bonus 60k points.
All call staff were made aware yesterday of the first year waiver, but needed a reminder.

  • Has anyone successfully applied for this card with annual fee waived in SA? which branch?

    • +1

      Yep - 1 KWS branch

  • Called them and said no there was no such thing as waiving the annual fee, dropped into a branch in South Melbourne and the guy was confused as to how I knew it and they didn't, he checked and found the specials which were all on one page. I filled in the application that he was going to submit later and let me know the outcome.

  • I applied online, and called to confirm I wont be charged an annual fee and they said yes its free for the first year :)

    • Hi can you please provide the number you used? Thanks.

      • I called the number from the application they sent me & they sent me to the correct department when I told them what I was after..check your email.

        • So is this a targeted offer only? I haven't got any email.

  • +1

comms seem pretty shite at WP - i called up asked to cancel my online application from last week before this promo as i wanted to go into a branch to get the fee waived .. she said the best she could do on the phone was reduce to $75

    • Tell her she's dreaming

  • I can confirm this deal is legit for anyone still on the fence.

Was able to apply and get approved for the black card over the phone. They confirmed that no annual fee would apply for the first year and i would get 60,000 QFF points.

Only word of caution is applying over the phone takes forever. Took about 35 mins from start to finish. And I will still need to go in branch to pick up the card and provide proof of income.

Perthicans, 109 St Georges Tce is useless, 40 St Georges Terrace knows what they are doing. Approved on the spot, fee waived, 60k bonus in the bag. Many thanks OP.

    • That's a bit annoying - South Perth couldn't finish my application because they were having system issues.

When he tried to select which branch we were applying from, it basically had no options, and the map selection didn't work.

      • +2

        They got OzBargained?

  • +1

Went to the branch and of course the person had no idea initially. The offer is part of an internal memo sent out to staff. Highlight to your consultant to 'check their mail/memo' and it will be listed there, not on the website. Apparently some poor person was at the same branch before me and they could not find the offer (QV Melbourne)

I'm not sure though if the 60000 points will be included as part of the deal when there is no fee. Terms on website seem to state otherwise. I'll wait and see as part of the initial welcome pack and will cancel if that's not the case.

All in all its available in VIC but consultant needs to check their mail/memo for details.

Does this offer also include 2x Qantas Club vouchers?

    • Only on the black card, and you need to register online first before making a Qantas spend each year to get them. I think gift cards and classic award surcharges count though.

  • Confirmed that you can call Black Card service and apply online with both 60,000 QFF points and 1st year annual fee waived. Just got approved over the phone after some checks in 10 mins. Got the confirmation email as well. The CS agent also confirmed that the 2 visits per year PP is also valid. I am an existing customer and have my salary deposited there as well.

    • +1

Hi can you please provide the number you called? Thanks

      • +1

        Applications team on 1300130961.

  • wow good deal this one - so to summarise points in this thread:
    - 1st yr no fee - Free. confirmed.
    - 60,000 Qantas points. to be confirmed.
    - Min $75,000 salary req'd. To be confirmed?
    - 2 X Qantas Club vouchers. Confirmed - but purchase of a Qantas product required to activate? To be confirmed.
    - Must apply in branch (quickest way - appointment needed) or on the phone (little slower), not online, citing the 'internal memo' for lost staff. Confirmed.

    ANYTHING I've missed?

    • +1

I understand you need to be holding a boarding pass for a Qantas or Jetstar flight to use the Qantas Club passes.

      • Do you know if this will work on codeshare flights operated by Emirates?

    • Hey buddy what you mean purchase of Qantas product required to activate?
Do you mean one must be traveling with Qantas/Jetstar/ Malaysia airline?

      • i someone said you are required to purchase a flight / hotel / hire car through the Qantas website maybe to activate the vouchers - but this is not yet confirmed.

      • Where the hell did you get Malaysia Airlines from?! LOL

  • Do any of these cards include free travel insurance ?

    • Believe that the black one does. Not sure bout the others

  • Dam tempting but for me not having complementary rental car insurance :(is a deal breaker

    • It's included in black and platinum cards. Domestic only though

      • +1

        Hey Reowly,

I'm unable to see any mention of rental car insurance on this page
        http://www.westpac.com.au/personal-banking/credit-cards/rewa…

In the detail section "Westpac Credit Cards Complimentary Insurance Policy (PDF 770kb)" which refers to westpac Black card, Platinum plus card and Platinum card.. as per below

My question is, Is Westpac Black card refers to Altitude Black? or its a different product?

Rental vehicle excess insurance in Australia cover is available to Westpac Black card, Platinum Plus card and Platinum A card cardholders.
We will reimburse you up to A$5,500 for any insurance excess or deductible which you become legally liable to pay in respect of a claim under the comprehensive insurance policy of the rental vehicle during the rental period provided:
        • the rental vehicle must be rented from a licensed rental agency; and
        • the hiring agreement must incorporate the standard comprehensive motor insurance normally provided by
the rental agency covering loss or damage to the rental vehicle; and
        • you must comply with all the requirements of the rental organisation under the hiring agreement and of the rental vehicle insurance.

Anyone still struggling in branch (as I did) the promotion is called "Blitz"

    • So you've been successful?
