    Nice find OP.

It seems though that the "No contract & free setup" offer applies to URBAN exchanges only (i.e. you get your ADSL from an Optus exchange).

I live in an area where I'm classified as Metro which means I get serviced from a Telstra metro exchange.

This causes the monthly cost to go up and I'm also slugged with setup fees and don't have a 'month-to-month' option.

Keep an eye out for this people. It's not as good as it seems initially.

Obviously Telstra wholesales their exchanges for a higher price so SpinTel can't afford to sell their plans for people on Telstra exchanges for the same price as people on Optus exchanges even though they both are in metro areas.

Anyone has personal experience with SpinTel and can comment based on personal experience re their sync speed, reliability and customer support for the broadband service specifically?

    Many thanks :)

  • Jumps up to $75 for regional areas. Still not a bad price.

    • Yea, regional customers always end up paying more unfortunately :(

How's the timeline for the NBN is looking where you are?

      • Actually rolling out in my street at the moment but I'm going to be moving to another regional area soon due to my work :(

      • $25 for home phone
im on there old plan and it is $10 cheaper per month
i was told i would have nbn for Christmas last year then June /July ish
they are laying cables two streets away from me though
  • -3

i CAN'T SEE THE $55/MONTH BUNDLE. IS IT INCLUDING THE HOME PHONE RENTAL?

    • +1

      yes for metro only

  • Great price for the nbn as well. I'll be signing up to them after I'm done with my remaining 4 months on contracts with iptimus.

  • +1

looks to be for urban only, merto (for me) is $75 a month.. not really a deal this

    • +3

The thing which kills it if you're not on an Optus exchange is not just the higher price but also the fact there is NO option to avoid a lock-in contract of at least 12 months!

LOCK IN CONTRACT = NO DEAL!

NOTHING can EVER convince we to sign up for a lock-in contract. Especially with a Telco and especially in the current environment where things are very 'fluid' when it comes to broadband.

  • +1

It says I'm eligible for the Metro bundles but still shows up as $74.95/month with 24 month contract. How did you get $55/month?

EDIT: Oh only for Urban regions. Would not recommend as Optus wholesale is oversold in many areas. I churned away from Exetel (using Optus) because it was so bad in my area during peak periods that speeds were abysmal and I experienced massive packet loss.

I think that's pretty much the final nail in the coffin of this deal.

In order to avoid any setup fees and lock-in contracts, you need to go through an Optus exchange (i.e. 'URBAN' plan) which means sh%t connection according to the testimonial above.

If you go through a Telstra exchange things might be better connection-wise but the price is no longer as competitive, you have to fork out a minimum of $25 for setup (if you go through a referral) and most importantly, you are locked-in for at least 12 months.

If you wanna leave during that time, the cost is $275 regardless of how much you've got left on your contract ($125 for the phone line and $150 for the ADSL service).

  • What is their performance like? Also, any difference being on Optus exchange v Telstra exchange (though I understand this is not for us to choose)? Essentially I would like to compare this with the like of TPG and Belong.

    • +1

My parents are with SpinTel and I just found out yesterday their ADSL2 connection has slowed down in recent months so that the speed from a broadband speed test was 1.78 Mbit/s. Dad hadn't had any joy getting the issue resolved via technical support.

  • I look at these offerings with interest, but having been with Internode for a while now, I'd be hard-pressed to give up a sure thing (even at a bit of premium price over the others) to possibly land in the drink where it comes to performance & support.

Anyone here have Spintel in WA who can speak to it as a service & company?

    Ta

    • Don't expect it to beat Internode in terms of service, it is different league.

  • -3

$25 for phone line kills this deal.

  • +1

How does this compare to TPG?

    • +1

      It compares well.

    • Only $4/month cheaper than TPG.

      • +5

"only"? This is ozbargain, please place ur membership on the table and walk away if u think a $4 monthly, $48 yearly saving is not attractive.

    • Terrible - Optus wholesale ADSL2 is awful.

I was a happy Exetel customer for 7 years on an Optus line. It was all fine until mid last year when they introduced the unlimited bundle plan for $59.99. A month later the service started degrading up to the point I experienced 150KB/s downloads, constant browsing interruptions due to packet loss, and crap pings while gaming during peak hours. Stuck with them for 6 months hoping they'll fix it, but just kept getting the same old reply saying it's a provider problem.

Switched to TPG 2 months ago and have had consistent 1.5MB/s downloads without issues.

I'd rather throw $48 down the drain each year than have to deal with the current Optus ADSL2 network.

  • +1

No setup fee offer is only good if you're on an exchange with Optus ports. Otherwise if you're on an exchange with Telstra ports it's classed Metro and charged a $50 setup fee. And the monthly fee shoots up to $74.95.

So it seems to Urban offer is only applicable to Optus ports.

  • Spintel tell me I am urban and eligible for the deal which I would like to take. $55 no setup or contract unlimited against Belong $80 500GB (son just got Netflix, need more).

Anybody had this happen? Will they proceed irrespective of which it turns out to be.
Contacted their customer support, waiting for a reply.

Don't mind chancing it, but definitely don't want no contract or setup fees if they start the transfer and cannot complete

Spintell tells me i am metro and eligible for $24.95 phone line rental, $50 Unlimited broadband for $74.95 total per month and a $50 setup fee with a 12 month contract. What a bummer. Since i'm on a Telstra port. Need to be on an Optus port to get this Urban deal.

However i'm on Dodo and already paying about $70 per month for unlimited internet/phone bundle and out of contract. No deal.

    • Not sure what happened to my post. I meant to say Spintel say Urban, Telstra say Metro

      • Today it tells me I am on Metro !!

  • Nice find OP. Looks like a can finally move from Exetel.

  • Can't find any info on whether uploading is included?

    • uploading isnt included
      (CIS)[https://www.spintel.net.au/static/critical_summary/CIS_BundleUrban_201502.pdf]

      • I am new to this, is that a major problem for general use?

        • Oh.. i fudged the formatting.

It's usually better because uploads dont count to your quota. usually unmetered upload is the norm. from memory, only telstra charges for uploads

        • @cpho: Optus, iiNet and its subsidiaries all charge for uploads too.

  • Spintel have easily been the best mobile phone co I have used. Love the plans they do and how easily you can upgrade/downgrade and when you go over you simply move up to the next plan which is only $1 or so. And 4g :)

Compared my current TPG "ADSL 2+ Home Phone" Plan ( $59.99 / month) with this and I get monthly total of $74.95.
So does not look like any good for TPG users to switch on this.

You're currently on a Telstra DSLAM port that's why. The Urban Bundle deal is only so good if you're currently on an Optus DSLAM port or can get on one which you're not.

    • I am with TPG naked unlimited for $69.99 p/m switchign to this (optus exchange) would be $54.95 a month I just don't know if its worth the risk if the comments above about abysmal speeds on the optus overloaded exchanges is true

  • Exetel is still the best value for an Optus exchange.

    • And based on the whirlpool threads, they both seem to get pretty common complaint threads… Was thinking of switching from exetel but it doesn't seem that I'll gain anything from switching.. Better the devil you know and all

  • I'm moving this week. Just checked my new address. Eligible for Urban there at $55 per month unlimited broadband.

Seems like a very good deal. Any one see any reason not to choose this plan?

    • +1

not so good reviews..doesn't seem to have consistent performance..
I am too moving shortly ..but strongly considering Internode ..I am currently with TPG

      • but having said that as it has no setup fee and no contract..I am having a second thought and giving it a try for at least one month and see how it goes..

  • +1

I will never, ever go back to Otpus ADSL.
    (deal-breaker)

  • Thinking of trying these guys out as I am moving into a house in May. Will they provide me with a home line phone number? Any suggestions for a modem? Probably one that's less than $100.

  • Their signup page is giving me 404 at the end of the process :) ..

  • +1

They have this deal since long time. I got connected in March last year in Adelaide for same package for $70 including no set up fee. However this does not include the calls to 1300 which are charged separately.

Recently I moved to Telstra cable as I am quite away from the exchange and the typical speed was about 3 MBPS. This is an issue with all the retailers from Optus as I have moved from optus, IINET on optus and spintel with almost same speed. No good for streaming services. Now Telstra cable speed is 36 MBPS. Can stream as many services as you like.

However apart from speed, the customer services exists but does not demand like from Telstra or Optus itself. Biggest issue is that they are only open for limited time and wait time is huge. However they have a service where you leave your number and they will call you back.

  • ClubTelco kills this 'deal', with their everyday offers.

    • I agree that ClubTelco has good pricing, but in their case, it appears as though you get what you pay for.

Currently paying $60/month in regional QLD, connected at 8mbps and during the day I get good speeds (5.5mbps), but during peak periods (6pm to 10pm), the speed drops to 1mbps. This makes Netflix, Foxtel Go etc unusable.

Congestion on the network means that I am in the process of looking for another ISP. Internode is one that keeps coming up as a viable, if somewhat more expensive, alternative.

      • There's always going to be different cases. Whirlpool is jam-packed with hate & love for all ISPs. I've had CT at home for 18mths+
        1.2MB/s 24/7 for $40/mth. No contract. Insane!

At family business, we had 500-800KB/s TPG that was extremely varied, but crazy cheap, but the only ADSL2+ option (apart from BigPong). Finally thought we'd throw triple the money at the problem, and got bigpond business. Exact same varied speeds, and absolutely USELESS customer support, that would vary between clueless & straight-up lying. Now gone dedicated 8-wire (4 lines) ethernet SHDSL for 500KB/s up & down… for $300/mth, with SLA & first class customer support.

I've had it all… since the start of ADSL in Australia, and mostly on the same two lines.

  • Does spintel send out letters for downloading pirated stuff like TPG?

    • If you're beep-enough to get caught, they might.

  • For those who live in regional area, logitel is pretty cheap. I paid $74.90/m for unlimited ADSL2 + phone rental, though you could sometimes get dodgy streaming speed.. This Spintel one comes to $99.95 for me…so no thank you!

From my personal experience I'd stay away from Spintel. I was with them for 10 months on their unlimited plan. First couple of months were great but after that regardless of the time of day everything was shaped and even basic web browsing was unusable. After several support calls to them they refused to admit the line was being shaped and eventually agreed to let me out of my contract. They stated the exchange or backhaul was oversubscribed. On switching to another provider without changing anything else my speeds instantly increased. No matter how cheap Spintel are they'll never get my business again. FYI this is coming from a current Exetel subscriber and even they don't have the greatest speeds during peak times. BUYER BEWARE!

  • Warning!!! People in Brisbane don't go for Spintel. Their QLD backhaul is fully congested. You only get 1.5~2 Mbp which is around 200KB/s speed at peak hour.

Go check the Google Video (Youtube) Quality analysis page and compare Spintel with the others. https://www.google.com/get/videoqualityreport/

Don't know how spintel's performance in other states. but in QLD, definitely the first ISP to avoid.
