Nokia Lumia 735 Unlocked $149 in-Store Only at Officeworks (Limited Stock)

643

last time cheapest Au stock also at Officeworks for $179, now even better for another $30 saving
Officeworks website is not really reliable about stock availability, last time I came in-store to pick one up for $179 at Officeworks because I did not give up when site showed no stock. So, it's better to come to your local Officeworks to check it out
Also it comes with a second case and both support wireless charging, mine was grey/black and included with a light green cover in box

  • pretty much a decent phone, and very good for selfie photos with a 5MPs front camera, hardly you can get smartphone this price range with that cool front camera

  • So OP which store have you confirmed stock in? It was pretty hard to find at the previous price!

  • +1

Good deal but no stock anywhere as far as I can tell.

    • their website is not right about stock availability most time, I went in-store and got one for $179 back then even on website it says out of stock, so, better check with your local store first

  • you can try pricematch at JBHiFi and Officeworks still if stock is limited at Officeworks

  • Prefer a newer model 640 for $179
    Although locked to Optus

    • or if you don't mind black colour, you can pricematch other retailers with Harvey Norman's $395 price tag (where others list it for $399) http://www.harveynorman.com.au/microsoft-lumia-640-xl-black.…

      • The harvey norman one is locked to voda

        • it is unlocked version with unlocked price :)

    • or here for $375 plus 5% cheaper with pricematching http://www.exeltek.com.au/nokia-lumia-640xl-4g-smartphone-bl…

      http://geekaphone.com/compare/Microsoft-Lumia-640-vs-Nokia-L…

Although newer isnt always better. It seems almost a slight downgrade in certain aspects:
640 dropped oled for ips (blacks and energy consumption for vibrancy)
      dropped 5mp front facing camera
More megapixel main camera but poorer aperature.

      • the good thing of ips is, it consumes less battery life with web browsing because of the white background (oled uses more battery for white background and light colours)

        • +1

Conversely, OLED screen consumes less battery with black background, which Windows Phone and its apps predominately use.

        • @alvian: you can change this too to light colour, still, web browsing uses white background which so far the most battery consuming usage

Where are the promotions of Android phones? Want a Moto G ;/

  • Please try a few postal code first before you post. OW have a lot of this kind of cheap but out of stock items on their site.

  • Bought one of these from Harvey Norman on a price match to the $179 OW previous price last week and now this surfaces just after the HN's 7 day price guarantee expires on the purchase… ever so slightly annoyed -.-

    • ouch, but $179 still worth your spending, think of people who dont know about the $179 deal last time have to fork out more than $200 for this same phone

    • +2

Just to annoy you more it's been this price for a few days :) did not post it as could not find any stock.

      • -2

why do you think it annoys me this and that, we're here to share good deals together, not having competition

        • ..as the reduced price was well within his 7 days if this is now only just past it. Nothing was said that it would annoy you though, it was in reply to their comment not yours.

        • +1

          @Pobman: sorry, my bad

        • @webtherapist:

You were lucky to get one, I visited Nerang and Southport last time to try and get a second one without luck. :(

        • @Pobman: have you tried Tweed Head, also, if you ask nicely to the staff they can help you with stock, sometimes they can arrange stock for you to pick up when it is available, just tell them you have the exact model and you lost it so you need it that bad ;), I used this trick before at Burleigh Head store for my Asus T100 back then, they are good

Bought the phone during last $179 deal… It's a good phone for starters , but no way near good for anyone entrenched in Android or iOS . I found the phone and OS to be severely limited .. Not just the apps or apps quality , but the core elements of the Windows OS itself is constrained . The internet explorer crashes often as well, I did not find the Windows phone OS to be anywhere near rival OS-es despite solid hardware and good camera for $149 .

Got a 630 at OW last week……fml the browser is like going back to Gingerbread.
      I've already ditched it.

      • +1

I'm on the same boat as well mate , I have assigned it to a family member who uses an old school Nokia :)

  • +1

    yea good phone

    • Oh right, stupid OP - clearly they shouldn't have posted this pretty decent deal because the screen size was below 5 inches…

      • -2

Yeah, completely ignore my other point about 1GB.

        • +4

Alright fine, I'll address it. Did you know the Apple iPhone 6 has 1GB of RAM? A device that costs around a grand. The point is that different OS have different ram requirements. While I'm an Android fan - it is definitely a RAM hog. I'd like to see 3 GB on any Android flagship, where as Apple and Windows OS have different needs. Also the point of the lower Nokia range is to be cheap and effective. This isn't a flagship killer, and why should it be for $150 bucks… a deal is still a good deal regardless of people's lack of technical knowledge

        • @Cooties:
"Did you know the Apple iPhone 6 has 1GB of RAM?"
          Yes, and it's shameful.

How much free ram is available on Windows Phone after initial boot? Ie. how much does the OS use?

        • @PainToad: Can't give any personal response because I don't own a WP but quick look around says the available RAM for app usage is 700 to 800mb out of 1GB. So OS would take up 200mb or so with some reserved for background use (navigation, Skype etc). For 150 bucks though it's a pretty decent deal - now the real problem is the huge lack of stock

        • +1

          @Cooties:
That is impressive. Are they using swap partition or something?

        • @PainToad: No idea but I doubt it - the read/write speeds of the onboard storage would bottleneck performance anyway. They just tombstone background apps to free up space when needed but for the average windows phone user (let's face it - probably slightly older people) they aren't going to notice any performance issues

Was there any ever stock anywhere - I've checked a bunch of postcodes around upper NSW with nothing (phoning and web)?

    • -2

head in-store or ring them, their website not accurate

      • Did you read my post - I've rung around about 20 stores. Did you, or did you just post this up without checking yourself based on your last experience?

        • -1

I just came in store and ask staff nicely to stock it for me, happened with my Asus T100 and this same phone for $179 deal last time, good deal sometimes costs a bit of effort, and yes I did read your post

        • +4

I'm no stranger to going to effort to get a good deal, but what I'm saying is that no one has seemed to find this phone in stock - can you please let us know which store you've found it in stock at? It seems like you're just guessing that some stores might have it in stock. If you had read my post you would have seen that I have been hitting the phones and ringing around trying to track one down, as have a lot of other people by the looks of it.

I'm not trying to sound ungrateful, but I'm just getting a little tired of seeing people post up deals that they think they've found but not actually confirming that they're deals at all, i.e. actually making sure the items are available for purchase somewhere - just means that a lot of people waste a lot of time hunting around for a deal that doesn't exist, and a company ends up wasting a lot of time responding to a lot of queries (that costs them time/money) about items that don't exist.

        • +2

          @Baker:

Totally agree, posting deal with only 1 in stock is pointless.

    • Retailer being out of stock is not a reason to neg a deal. See: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

      • +2

Retailer never had stock to begin with

      • The difference is that the retailer was not out of stock, it's that (as @unity1 said) the retailer never had any stock at all. The OP put up a deal that simply didn't exist, hence the neg.

If the retailer had simply ran of stock, then I would not have negged, but there has been no evidence put forward that any stock ever existed, and everyone who has commented (and spent time ringing around, including others that have rang head office etc) have been told that NO stores have any stock anywhere - it's not like the OP even purchased one, or found one in store at this price.

        • -2

receipt still in my office draw, clearly printed $179, unless i photoshoped one

        • Yes, but you never found one at $149 did you, which this deal is for?

        • +1

@Baker: I went to few officeworks, there is no stock at all

      • Having stock is a requirement to post the deal.
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guidelin…
Minimum 10 is the guideline, but not even the OP has seen 1 in stock anywhere since purchasing theirs at the previous price of $179.

  • +1

None in Hornsby nor in Dee Way

  • +3

Rang the customer support, there is no stock available anywhere

    • Well that saves me a trip into Officeworks on the way home

  • +2

When I call last week I was told they even removed the product number from their system

  • Which other store would price match? GG HN DS?

    • Tried HN, refused to price match.

      • +1

Price match won't work if they can't see stock availability in other retailers.

  • Jumped on this at $179 and no regrets. You play your hand early on big price drops like this.

By all means gamble on a further drop but honestly did anyone actually expect there to be significant stock levels given how much the $179 price point was jumped on.

I guess maybe the $150 was the eBay/gumtree onsell sweet spot….

  • Does anyone know when this phone will get Windows 10?

    • end of this year is what I heard

  • I have free screen protectors and a brand new case I will give free to one lucky member.

  • Managed to get one for only $148 from a GoodGuys store in WA. Most stores refused to price beat due to lack of OW stock but managed to convince one store. Worth a try. So happy :)
