  • Thanks TA.

Is anybody able to tell me if i could use these to top up my prepaid plan instead of changing sims? If so, how would i do that?

    • -1

Don't hold me to it, but I think you can but replacing the sim or something like that.

    • Was going to ask the same. I want to recharge my existing prepaid sim.

Hi ABZ. Best to just jump on a chat session with Optus and ask them. Good luck!

    • +1

      and report back pls.

      • I am having no luck with their optus chat. It loads the chat & says waiting for a representative but just stays like that & nothing happens. I have tried on two different devices & the same result so not sure if there is anybody working at this time. I shall report back once i am able to get in contact with somebody

The above was what i was provided with after finally getting in contact which isnt worth it for me.

The person i spoke with said i was unable to transfer my current optus number to a starter pack sim to use the credits but can use my current number & do so with a replacement sim from an optus store but not with a starter pack.

I may get a starter pack & head to my local optus store on my next day off & see if they are able to transfer the credits at all.

      Hope that helps.

  • Can you use the $30 credit in google play store with these SIM?
I recall there was a bill to Optus?

  • whats the expiry on this?

  • I bought four, one on one card (bumped from 3 to 1 for some reason) and three on another card.

Just going to swap sims out to bump my account full of credit.

    • Hi there, kronicmacstigator! Unfortunately you may find that you can't activate these starter SIMs on an existing service, essentially not letting you pool the credit.

      • Bugger, I guess I might just re-sell them then. Thanks

Seems to be the cheapest (albeit a piss around) way to get mobile broadband?

    i.e.

12gb @ $40/month with virgin is the best going around that I have found.

    Using this deal:

    $4 day over 30 days = $120 (which gives 30gb usage, or 1gb daily).

    $120 / $30 credit = 4

    4 x $10 = $40.

So for the same $40 you essentially get 30gb of data.

Alternatively you could sign up to the $2 daily which gives 500mb a day for $20 outlay (15gb total)

Please feel free to correct me if I've gone astray.

    • I'm a lucky bugger. $120 worth of credit heading my way for $40 on $2 day unlimited 3G :)

  • Looks like their website has been Ozbargained!

  • Grabbed 3 to cover a short trip to Turkey/Greece. each gives up to 60MB data or 30minutes calls or 60 SMS.

    thanks TA

    • Have a great trip, you lucky thing :)

    • Relo going to Germany, Spain, France. How does this compare to buying a SIM in Europe?

    • Hi guys I'm a bit confused. Are you buying these Optus prepaid to use overseas? I want to do the same as data roaming is too expensive with my normal carrier.

  • Do the sims expire?

    • I'd also like to know this. I'm helping someone move their ADSL service but they wish to keep their Optusnet email address.

I would like to grab a prepaid sim, move their current username onto it then cancel the ADSL service.

I heard the prepaid sims require at least 1 recharge every 6months to remain 'active', but it's difficult to get clarity on this (and if the email account still works even without any prepaid data!)

      • Hi there! The timeout/inactive period is indeed six months! If you don't recharge within those six months, the account will become inactive and the phone number will go into quarantine.

  • can i use this for premium credit?

    • Yup! Right now the only prepaid plan we have that includes premium/extras credit is the My Prepaid Monthly. Recharging $30 will get you $5 worth of credit to spend on any premium service.

      • Couldn't you just activate the kit on My Prepaid Daily, then use the $30 included MyCredit?

  • What is the most amount of data you can get on the optus data plans?

  • Vodafone also offering $30 Prepaid for $15

Can these be activated as a data plan for tablets, like the telstra ones? If so, how many GB do you get?

  • FYI, here's how you can activate your new SIM card with an existing prepaid service:
    1. Log into MyAccount
    2. Scroll down to your existing service(s) and click the Settings tab
    3. Click the Activate button and follow the prompts from there

Don't have a MyAccount? No worries! Simply sign up for one here!

    • Thanks for this Jekyll.

      • No problem, TA! Just a word of warning though; depending on what prepaid plan you're on, trying to activate the starter pack SIM on an existing service may return an error. They are starter packs after all!

        • Hi Jekyll! I can confirm this works - tried it yesterday Thanks!

    • Does it extend the credit expiry date by 6 months when you activate a $30 kit as replacement sim?

      • If you're able to activate the SIM, yes. Once you make a call/send an SMS/use data on the service it'll reset the inactivity timer.

        • will it change the plan? im on a plan that is not offered anymore

    • +2

sorry i don't quite understand. So if i activate one of these starter packs, i can keep my current number and utilise the 30$ credit? Would it not just add another number to my account?

  • Site's having trouble? Keep getting "parsererror" when I try to place my order.

    There it goes… took 3 tries >_>

    Free Netflix?

    • +1

Sorry, no. The only way to be eligible for the 3 month Netflix offer on a prepaid service is to purchase a handset with the SIM included.

  • Thanks got 3 i use 2 of these each month on $2 days just use mainly for the 500 meg a day. So changing the sim and number twice a month dont worry me.

  • If i have a current number with optus and buy this, do i have to keep porting in and out to keep my number?
edit: woops didn't see someone post similar question above

  • If I buy this starter pack, can I create an account to buy $10 Hoyts movie ticket?

If I don't recharge my prepaid plan in 6 month, the number will become inactive, but am I still able to buy $10 movie ticket?

    Thanks,

    • thats a great idea! i should get a telstra crd for that same reason

    • Anyone knows about this matter?

  • Dun bother just price match it.

  • Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but would anyone know what the maximum length of time is that I can hold onto this credit before it expires?

And how would I go about selecting the right plan to get the maximum validity?

  • I had one bad experience with buying from Optus online in November of 2014. They sent me a SIM which expired October 2014. Couldn't be activated. I was in a hurry and finally got it fixed at an Optus shop. They wouldn't do a direct swap. Said they'd be out by $30. Instead they gave me a $2 sim and then spent 40 minutes on the phone and finally managed to get Optus to credit the new $2 sim with $30 of credit.

  • Can i just keep swaping/porting between this and the telstra $30 stater kits.

  • Does this have free netflix ?

  • Will this work on Mobile Broadband 3gb for 30 days?

    Optus website down! Ozbargained!?

    • +2

Parts of it have been down for hours. Pathetic!

  • Is it possible to pick up a nano SIM for free from an Optus store? Need to transfer a service from an old larger SIM into a nano SIM for a new phone.

  • Optus (Ringgo and his 'senior specialist' florence) told me it will be back online at 8pm and that the promo will be extended until the 30th. Can't say I really trust them though, they were not the brightest people I have dealt with.

got 2 before site was down ..

    • Not going to Upvote?

  • its still available!!!

  • Wasted an hour of my life to keep getting credit card has been used when purchasing…

  • Bought 3, and have got 4 of the $1 Telstra $30 sim packs.
7 months of phone, for $34.. cannot go wrong.

    • Problem is you got to keep telling everyone your new number!

      • No, all you do is port your number back and forth.. Have had the same number for 10 years

Got 3 of these sims, all 3 sim cards come up as "SIM number enetered has expired" when I try to activate online. package says they expire 1Feb16.

Interested to know if anyone else has tried activation?

  • Same bad experience with Optus.
