means that phone would have likely taken a nude selfie of a teenage girl. May be a selling point for some.

      • +6

no, it will contain a nude selfie of a middle age overweight man

        • +5

Which may be a selling point for some.

        • +3

@AznMitch: true story; I bought an old samsung phone of ebay and it had about 20 nude photos of a middle age overweight man on it (including full frontal - it was tiny). shudder.

        • +1

@altomic: Ew. I feel sorry for you.

        • +3

@AznMitch: it's burnt into my retina. it won't go away. it's horrid, it's horrid!!!

        • @altomic: It's OK, everything is going to be fine… Just don't imagine him while doing something NSFW or you might end up conditioning yourself to get turned on by that kind of image.

        • @AznMitch:

Why feel sorry? He paid attention to the details, he must have liked it. lol

Not a good way to spend $299.99 IMO. Better phones out there. Buy a LG G2 for around that. Much better phone, again IMO

    • +1

      But its an iPhone :P

    • +3

      I think it's a great way to spend $299.99 is you're after a device with iOS :)

    • +2

Still better than spending $299 on a 4S….

    • +2

Some people like the powerful internals.. for some old people, the iPhone provides the best user experience.. I tested an HTC and iPhone with my old grandmother, she kept the iPhone and gave the HTC back..

        lovely

Buyer beware - Click though and get this…

    Note:
This unit is certified Apple refurbished and is in Good Condition.
Comes in generic packaging with usb cable and ear buds only (no power adapter).

Therefore no deal and no bargain!

    • Isn't that normal for refurbished Apple phones? You get the phone but not the accessories.

      • -1

Exactly right! The unit would just come in a brown box, but it does have the plastic seal on it, like the new ones do, if that's your thing.

      • +5

Official Apple refurbished products come with all the same accessories as the original. They replace the battery and exterior and accessories (from memory) with new parts. Official refurbished Apple products are basically the same as brand new, and include the normal 1 year warranty.

I don't think Apple sells refurbished iPhones, so these wouldn't be OFFICIAL refurbished products, but more so second hand products that Mwave has bought.

        That's my guess anyway!

Edit: the box for official refurbished Apple products is a plain white box with 'iPad' or whatever written on it. I think it says refurbished on the box as well. Still a nice box, but doesn't have all the decorative images on it.

        • yes my refurb ipad has everything like normal ipad, except the "refurb.." on the box.

Yeah, pretty much everything except phones. Wonder why.
So the $299.99 question is do they sell them only via resellers, or is there no such thing?

    • I really don't see your point.

      • +5

Point is it's not a "official" refurb.

        • Correct it's false advertising by Mwave.

        • It states "Manufacturer Warranty - 3 Months Limited Warranty". I think you are guessing that it's not a certified refurb. Not sure whether your guess is accurate or not.

The secret Apple eBay store did sell Apple "certified pre-owned" refurbished iPhone 5 models.
          http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/07/08/apples-second-secr…

Apple Insider also lists prices for Certified iPhone 5C at around USD$300. However in this case they are certified by Gazelle (US's largest electronics trade-in and buyback service).
          http://prices.appleinsider.com/#iphones

As Mwave claims it's "certified Apple refurbished", I would feel it's deceptive if it's actually certified by someone who's not an Apple technician.

But in the end, your argument (or B0M8's argument) is that you haven't seen Apple certified refurbished. However, Apple did certify and sell some refurbished iPhone 5 devices in 2014. Indeed, Kogan also sold iPhones refurbished by Apple. They also made the disclaimer: "This Product may differ in some respects from other similar products available from local retailers in various countries around the World." https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/apple-iphone-5-16gb-black-apple…

The only difference I see is that other vendors say "Each phone comes with an Apple One-Year Limited Warranty" while mwave says "Three month manufacturer warranty", which seems to be a violation of ACCC warranty rules.

        • @twocsies:

I have bought official Apple refurbished from Apple online before. They come with all original accessories in an official sealed packaging with "Apple Certified Refurbished" written on it. In fact you cannot tell the difference between the new product as Apple replaces the chassis and battery.

Mwave would have you believe this is to the same standard as Apple's refurb process when it is not. Therefore it is false advertising. I stand by that this is no bargain when ot doesn't even come with all accessories nor proper packaging. Might as well buy used at half the price.

        • @abc: Then why is there a manufacturer warranty?

Edit: Personally I'd pay 15% more and get a new phone (link below).

But the point is that mwave is a generally reputable company. It seems harsh to be making the claim that mwave is definitely misrepresenting its products. ACCC has already slapped them in 2010, so I'd think they would be careful.

Maybe someone can contact Mwave and find out for sure. My Ticket# is JB108936 so we will see what they say.

        • @twocsies: Did you hear anything back at #JB108936?
"get a new phone (link below)" where is the link? :)

        • +1

          @hongd: this is the message:
          Hi Tom,

No this is not false advertising and has been refurbished by apple. As per the information on our website:-

"This unit is certified Apple refurbished and is in Good Condition.
Comes in generic packaging with usb cable and ear buds only (no power adapter)."

This will not come in the standard White Box and will come in a generic packaging.

@hongd: the link for grey market iphone I meant was the one from @jjno41: http://becextech.com.au/catalog/mobile-phones-apple-mobile-p…

  • What condition would these be in like the battery/screen. Also do they come with Apple warranty?

    Cheers

    • They are used iPhones that's all.

  • I just tried. It's a group buy so you can't actually get it until deal is "activated"! Also must pay by credit card (which needs verification).

nothing beats huawei y550 $49 deal.

    • +1

This is pretty good alternative to Y550. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/194839

Not popular deal here, I guess due to every ozbargainer having bought the Y550 deal.

The genuine Apple refurbs are pretty good, it's like new condition. If you must have an iPhone then you probably aren't going to find a much better deal than this.

Extra $66 for a new grey import with a years warranty for reference.

16GB is a bit small for an SSD.

  • Apple stills sells these don't they?

update, only the 8GB are sold new now.

  • None left deal ended!
