  • Pre-sale starts tomorrow morning ? Are we able to grab the Lumia 530 or the pre-sale is only for Toys ?

    • +1

I went to Big W first thing this morning. Person at the counter said it doesn't start till 5.30pm for presale, then said it didn't include "Home Entertainment" anyway. So a phone is home entertainment apparently. I bet when I go back first thing Thursday, they won't have any stock.

  • This is one per person, right?

    • +2

Yes one per customer according to the sale terms.

  • -1

Was unable to obtain this price today at BIG W Brisbane City (11:00am). Attendant scanned my EDR card. He indicated that I may not have been eligible. I didn't receive an email (i've unsubscribed anyway) and when I log in to the EDR site there is no mention of the EDR offer.

So worth a try after 5:30PM tonight, failing that then Thursday.

  • oh you can pre-buy this? anyone want to fill me in?

    • -2

It's all discussed above. Fill yourself in?

      • -1

not clear enough. going to jihad big w now. :^)

        • Every Day Rewards member get early access to the sale. But not to home entertainment, ie. this product. So no, you can't pre-buy this.

  • -5

This is the worst smart phone iv ever user. It is way to thick and the screen is terrible.

    • +1

Gee you think the Lumia 530 is thick?. How thin do you want it. Thin doesn't mean a strong built device.

    • +7

I think it's been established it's not a great phone, we don't need everyone saying the same thing over and over again. Think you'll find most people here want it for a dedicated GPS unit that stays in the car.

    • +10

      Its $20 ffs

      • +1

        $19 lol

but couldnt agree with you more, its like some people thing they are locking into a mortgage.

    • +3

Yea what the people above have said. It's honestly an awesome GPS unit for $19.
Besides, happy for you to say it's the worst but I'd like you to show me a reasonable alternative for a similar price.

      • Telstra Tempo T815 has been found for as low as $25. Thin and has a better screen and running KitKat Android with a GPS.

    • It's much better than the first Android smartphone I've ever bought. It's really amazing what you can get nowadays for $20.

With the T815 you can capture moments with the wonderful 2mp camera. :P

  • Did anyone happen to try and snag one with EDR tonight? Curious to see if it's worth going in to BigW tomorrow. Really want this GPS for $19 :)

  • +1

Pre sale excludes phones confirmed last night.

  • so it's locked to Optus..
Does that mean you can use it only on Optus retail or you can use it on any Optus reseller?

    • +1

This one is locked to Telstra not Optus - I'm guessing you were reading the comments, but there was another deal being discussed when they were talking about Optus. From previous experiences it appears the resellers may not work

  • I'll get a 5% discount if i buy with a woolworths gift card? Am i right?

    http://www.cashrewards.com.au/woolworths-gift-cards

    • +2

Is it really worth the effor for 95cents?

      • +2

Probably.. because you are most likely gonna use it anyway at Woolies another time.
And you can use it on petrol at Caltex Woolworths, which at current petrol prices equates to ~7.5c/L (and you can still use the 4c/L in addition).

      • Is it really worth the effort for 95cents?

You are on the wrong site mate.

  • +1

Probably worth paying an extra $20 for the new model Lumia 532 at Woolworths (on again this week).
It has twice the RAM and storage.

    • Yeah but $19 (as to how many will be available will be interesting to see) + $20 ebay unlock code? (just realised it isnt 4G though. oh well.cheap backup lol)

  • So you can't use it with an Aldi SIM card at all, only with Telstra?

    • No, apparently it won't work. I have just found the answer on Whirlpool:
      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2371996

      :(

      • Will work if you invest another $20 in an unlock code off eBay.

        • +1

Yeah i wanna know too.Can it be unlocked by third party sites or must it be directly with telstra…I was thinking to buy it as a cheap travel gift, but itll be useless if its not unlocked

        • +1

          @cboy:

The unlocking is done through an unlock code being inputted into the mobile phone itself via the phones inbuilt keypad. I messaged these people selling the $20 unlock codes for Telstra Lumia 530 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Telstra-unlock-code-for-Nokia-Lum… and they say they can do it for brand new straight out of the box prepaid Telstra Lumia 530.

        • @hollykryten:
Guessing this dude works for Telstra and just slips them through the system.

        • @hollykryten: thankyou!

        • $20 would not be so bad, but for Aldi someone said the following in the thread I linked to above:

"My Aldi SIM didn't work on a new Telstra locked Nokia lumia 530. Telstra said I would have to pay $80 to unlock the new Nokia."

Maybe $20 is only for Telstra? At any rate they seem to sell unlocked Nokia Lumia 530 for $50 dollars incl. postage on eBay, and in more than 1 store, so these could be an option too. Basically the same price if postage is about $10? $20 (phone) +$20 (unlocked) +$10 (postage).

  • Wonder if the Lumia 530 will actually be in stock at Big W tomorrow morning or will it be a waste of time. Any way i'm buying one if they have it.

  • +3

I went to Big W FountainGate (VIC) not long after Midnight and they were SOLD OUT! W*nkers! haha… Great when you live in the Far Eastern Suburbs and are told at the counter that "some people came in and bought several of them…". Funny, because I remember reading the Terms and apparently there was only meant to be ONE Per Customer! I should have mentioned that to the sales person but didn't think of it. Oh well. At least I was able to buy some Maccas on the way home. I'm going back to drinking more piss and going back to my movie:). I'm going to stay up all night and will head out to a more local one in the morning. Not saying where:) If I can't get one in the morning then I give up!

    • My bet is that the staff bought them all out before it even went on sale to the public.

Any way i'm off to the local Big W store soon when it opens up at 8am to see if there's even any stock available.

  • Respect to those that went to Sunshine and Werribee BigW (VIC) at midnight for this phone.. they must want it baaaad :-)

    • Do you know whether these stores still have stock?

      • don't know, mate

  • +3

    Check stock before heading out.

    http://www.bigw.com.au/bigwstore-pickup/WCC100000000206558/p…

LOW STOCK probably means 2 or less.

    • +1

      Doesn't work for me :(

      • Doesn't work for me either.

      • +1

Go to the main BigW website and set your location first

    • +1

Worked for me, showing LOW STOCK so I'll give it a miss. Saved me a 45 minute round trip thanks.

    • Showing In stock, but I was arrive the staff said was sold out. :(

    • thanks - deal updated :)

  • +1

Big W Brisbane CBD sold out. They had 2. What a joke.

  • Top Ryde sold out they had 3 only.

  • -1

Has anyone try if this unlock method works? https://vimeo.com/119973464

    • I don't think anyone really wants to risk installing malware on their computer.

  • Plenty in Southland, 10

  • -4

It's ok now. I have 3 of them:). (from 2 different stores). I'm going to bed now:). but before I do, Just a note regarding Eastland (Ringwood): I bought One from there and they said they only had one. I then RANG Doncaster Big W and they said they had 6. I bought 2 at Donny, so there May be a few left by the time you get there. I'd go there IMMEDIATELY if you're anywhere near there. Good luck everyone.

    • +1

      One not enough?

      • -1

Going to bed now. Good morning.

      • Hi tightarse. I didn't answer your question yesterday because I didn't think that the question was necessary, but I'll answer it anyway. One Lumia 530 was actually more than enough but I just couldn't pass up a good deal like this:). I live in the far eastern suburbs, so driving from here to FountainGate and arriving not long after Midnight only to be told that they were "out of stock" was a waste fuel. So the next morning (Yesterday at 7AM) (slightly after by the time I found Big W and walked in there) in Eastland I grabbed One (my first one). Before leaving Ringwood, I looked up the Doncaseter Big W number and rang them, and was told they had 6 in stock., so due to the other night's disappointment, I thought I'd continue on to Doncaster to pick up another one. I had discussed on the phone with them that I wouldn't mind a 2nd one, otherwise One would be fine. When I got there, when buying One from Donny, I was asked by the lady if I wanted to grab a Second one, so how could I resist:). Hey thanks for the info about the deals by the way, really appreciate it, as I also picked up a 128GB micro-sd card:).

    • +1

Typical big w. Stock levels usually low.

    • +1

Hi Broden. Long time no see.

  • God it shits me that people that work always miss out on these deals. Should start at 6pm.

  • Geelong no stock but are taking names for when they get more. We will see.
Very busy, consoles and games walking out the store, what am i missing?

    • +1

Yeah PS4 were selling like hotcakes. I didn't think it was that great of a buy. Think people who don't usually follow prices get caught up during these toy sales.

  • an important problem to note with Windows Phone is they haven't sorted their backup bug out yet. System Backups don't work - you can't backup to go from phone to phone or restore from current image! Keep this in mind before investing in the platform. Won't matter to many but will to some. For a couple of dollars more you get android which works in this regard, either at system level or user data. BTW, photo's do backup on windows phone but just photos. (I'm using a work provided windows phone for months now and a nexus 7 tab).

  • the lady behind me was taking 10… (the cashier didn't seem to know but thought that in the absence of rules means there isn't one)

i find the phone pretty good, coming from a chinese refurbed galaxy2

    • +1

      I would have said something.

    • If they are still in the same pink Telstra branded box that mine was in a few months ago then there is actual a stipulation on the box that its 1 per customer and no trade sales.

      • Yep, the one I bought this morning says 1 per customer on the box.

        • i'm new to all this and pretty shy… i'll take up the psycho help when there is a freebie offer for it ^^

        • @juki:
          Welcome aboard fellow bargain hunter.

    • -6

Bet she was Asian. Not that most on here aren't. It's made by Asians for Asians lol

      • +1

        No lol for me!

  • +1

Doncaster BIGW (VIC) just sold their last one. The lady said they are getting more Nokia Lumia 530s and she thinks all stores are. She wasn't sure if they'll arrive later today or tomorrow. She also mentioned that the price will still be $19.

  • +1

Paid $29 for mine but its unlocked so I still come out on top (so glad I'm not with telstra)

Unless these can be unlocked for free?

    • +1

true thats a better deal, where from?

      • The optus ones unlock for free and cost $29. You just need to call them

    • keen to share where you got it from?

  • would the 530 or 532 work on an aldi sim AFTER being unlocked ?

    • You can use any SIM after unlocked.

  • Rang 3 closest bigw - all sold out :-(

    • +1

      Which 3?

  • anyway to get unlock this??

    • $20 on ebay

      • -3

You mean, for the unlock code.

  • At store when the doors opened. Had no stock to sell hadn't even arrived yet said to come back tomorrow but i couldn't be bothered to come back and be told it's sold out any way. Waste of time.

I already have an Optus Nokia Lumia 530 bought from Dick Smith. I'm going to see about getting that one unlocked instead.

  • Store was open since 12 midnight and F!@#kers came in in the middle of the night and sold out their stock within a few hours…I doubt they'll restock

    • My local store didn't open until 8am. Didn't stop them having no stock to sell from the get go and they wouldn't take a raincheck. Honestly how long have they had to get stock in at least a week and they still couldn't get them in time.

  • Merrylands, Auburn, blacktown have no stock :(

    • Seems a lot of stores currently have no stock. Count Rockhampton, QLD into that list.

    • Also Rouse Hill and Winston Hills

  • I bought 2 of these at kmart when $29. They are still in the wrapper. I love these deals!

  • +1

    All sold!
My son went to the south yarra shop before school and found all sold.
I went to Box hill shop right after 8:30am and found they had 9 units and sold right after 7:00 when they opened. He told me to try south yarra as they had the most (24 units), which my son already tried.
    It looks like a bait!
What a joke having only 9 boxes and put an ad on the catalog!

Time waster, Big W disappointing many students buyers, I think.

    • Hmm.. I was second in line at the counter when the doors opened (Sth Yarra) and the girl said she only has one.
