  • Why this is so expensive and is it legal? This is just like apple tv hacked with xbmc installed?

    • +1

Its used by Asians to watch Live TV from different parts of the world, e.g. Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Viet etc. It is quite popular in the Chinese community in Australia especially the ones who come from hong kong, as it allows watching of several TVB channels.

Not sure if it is illegal in Australia, it is sort of the same as getting a large dish and tuning into their satellites for free which is quite common for people in Australia to get their homeland's tv networks.

      • Aren't there several versions of TVpad4? one of you want TV from CN & another for CN + HK, etc.?

    • eBay shows prices from $236 up for such boxes or similar (hard to tell which)

    • Someone in Shanghai once sent me a web link that let me view some Chinese program(s) with no such box. similar?

      • BETV is prob the one you are talking about.
It is free program on the internet.

Hmmm i think TVPad is more geared towards TVB which is why its so popular. Which there isn't any free programs on the web which broadcasts TVB. There is a few live streams but they change so often that it is annoying to keep chasing them.

  • +2

rather pay little extra to get maigetv, more channels, better interface…overpriced here no deal for me..

    • How much is a Maige TV? From which site can I buy one?

      • -1

        http://www.maigetvaustralia.com/store/index.php
        I reckon you can try code maigetv20 /maige30 /maige50… for a $20 /30 /50… discount. Not guaranteed though.

        • don't know why I get neg. I just asked Joe's question and told him the website where I purchased from.

    • +1

+1 for Maigetv. Search function, favourites function, no need to download apps and constant updates like TVpad.

Maige is a little more expensive, I think it was $300 including first year of subscription, then about $100 per year after.

But you'll get almost all the channels from the US, and ALL available US + HK series!!

      • And channels from Korea + Japan and few France /German

        • Not to mention the thousands of streamable movies, it's been very good in the last 15 months we've used it.

    • Its not really pay alittle extra though. MaigeTV is up front $300 which includes 1 year, then $100 per year afterwards.
TVPad is just a once off payment for the device then unlimited watching for how many years you want.

Also i think TVPad is so popular because of their reliability, they have been in constant lawsuits overseas especially in Hong Kong in regarding to their broadcasting of TVB. However they haven't gotten scared and shut it down.

I know of friends who tried a few other devices, they either got threatened by TVB and shut its service down, or they are extremely slow at transferring speed.

      • if u've used MaigeTV, you will not hesitate to throw that TVPad in rubbish bin.
I just lend my Maigetv to my friend who has been using tvpad in the past, he ordered maigetv straight away.

  • Amazing scenes…they've sold 200 of these? Buy a cheap android box, install XBMC on it, put a bunch of "LIVE CHINESE TV CHANNELS IN ULTRA HD" stickers all over it, and then mark it up 300% = profit.

    • +1

      Not the same thing.

    • Lol, ignorance is a bliss.
If you can tell me a FREE program that's on XBMC which can watch live TVB Channels then I will hail you as a god.

    • Lol not quite…

  • what's so unique about it, the market is now full of those tiny pcs like pipox7 for $130au that come with windows and you can load what ever streaming software you want. problem with many of these android boxes is the version of android doesn't seem to get updated they must bring our new versions of the box eg market is full of android 4.4 kit Kat boxes but I haven't seen one of them with a lollipop android 5 upgrade:-(

  • +1

If you dont know why people buy this little box, you will unlikely use the box (tvpad) to the purpose of why it was initially created, hence cant justify the $300. Haha.

  • I read news years ago, police busted some people running Asian tv streaming business in sydney. Will this be the same?

    http://m.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/police-raid-s…

    • There were some raids in the uk where fully configured xbmc/kodi boxes were being sold specifically for this purpose.

Given the price and the amount of content and the non-ongoing contract on a tvpad. I would question if one really wants to risk such a box?

  • Anyone knows when is WELTV 2 coming out ?

  • I wonder how many of these little boxes will survive the new Australian blocking rules. The source of the streaming is a little……

Not to disimilar to streaming netflix from the US I guess.

  • This is the best product ever produce, that why it has been release TVPAD1, TVPAD2, TVPA3 and TVPAD4, abit like iPhone you know what I mean, otherwise they will not release a new series.

So it is very good, I have TVPAD3, live TVB, Vietnam, Taiwanese, Korea, Japanese, you name it.

  • Futu have raised the price it was $319 2 weeks ago.

With the UK eBay 20% off it was $255.20!

  • It always depends on the Internet access… When you got speeding Internet, then Great! But If the network doesn't work well, then it'd sit there, just like a Box.

  • A quick search came up with a cheaper one:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TVpad-4-M418-Ultra-HD-Smart-TV-St…

Not sure if its legit. $299.95, use C20EXTRA to get 20% discount = $239.96

Though I'm not sure if I want to get tvpad4 or tvpad2…

    • +1

This is China and Taiwan version no HK channels

      • OH good pick up. Pretty worthless then -_-

  • I think with latest anti-piracy laws these boxes may soon become paper weight…I would serious wait and see…the maige box seems to be the best so far when I went to someones house as it had all the HBO and American ESPNs.

I did noticed that in the US, there is some lawsuits against TVpad from Dish (their Foxtel), CCTV and TVB.

    http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20150319005733/en/DISH…

    http://about.dish.com/files/doc_library/file/Complaint.pdf

I would wait and see what happens with these before I fork out my hard saved Ozbargain money…lol

  • Anyone know if you can install other apps such as Netflix and Plex, XBMC etc on this box?

I know it is running a customized version of Android but does that mean I can't install unless it's approved by TVPad themselves?
