No wonder woolies are shite these days. They should start selling from normal stores as opposed to watermelons.

Apple laptops are still a monumental rip off even during sale times. Imagine if we gave all that money to a company that knows how to innovate.

    • +1

Ok, what is a similarly specked laptop of the same quality?

      • -3

You did not just ask that. Go buy any Dell, Lenovo, HP, ASUS, Microsoft computer at the same price. It will have better specs. What do you mean "same quality?" Most business users don't use Apple products. Business products have superior build quality and you can find better build quality notebooks from Lenovo, Dell and HP.

Making a laptop out of metal doesn't cost that much compared to the electronics inside. Stop being fooled by this greedy company.

        • +6

In what kind of world are Dell and HP being recommended over Apple?

My 3yo MBA craps all over the Dells, HPs, Acers, that I used for years. You know why Apple cost more? You only need to upgrade once every 3-5 years, not every 6 months like the OEM crap I kept buying all those years and caused me nothing but pain.

Now go make a coffee and read a book while you wait for your Dell to boot up.

        • +9

@MrMaxwell: I'm a huge Windows fan + Windows developer but bought a MacBook Pro 15" (1 TB Flash drive, 16GB RAM) for practical reasons since I was spending my own money. The first thing I did was remove OSx and install Windows on it.

The reasons why I went with a Mac.
          1. It has a great resale value after 3+ years of use. Try selling a Dell or Lenovo after three years.
          2. None of the Dells etc make a PCIe version (huge performance difference)
          3. There is no comparable hardware (try finding a premium Dell XPS or Lenovo with 1 TB pcie flash)
          4. Great service. I just need to walk into an Apple store to get a replacement. With Dell, Lenovo I need to post it to them and wait for weeks without a device.

        • +1

@merill: What pro buys without onsite service??

        • +1

You're pretty misinformed. Macbook airs especially hold their value. Their battery life is top of the line, the screen quality is actually impressive (But poor res) and its light. Forget if it looks good, because it still looks better than the competition. Your closest competitor is an ASUS zenbook which still appears to be the same price.

I cant find anything cheaper that would actually be good as an ultrabook cos I just spend all of last night looking. Unless you talk about the Dell refurbs on some of the latitude 7000s which are well specced, reasonabl battery life and pretty light.

        • @Utopian: Exactly for on site support I need to pay more with Dell but with Apple I can just walk into the store.

        • +1

Perhaps the world of enterprise users where Windows Server is still the dominant OS or maybe the world of gamers. The XPS 13 and the HP Spectre are directly comparable to anything Apple makes, and also the Surface Pro 3's build quality and specs are as good or better in some areas than the MBA or 2015 Macbook.

So while you may not be able to maintain a Windows PC past 6 months please respect that a great deal of the world can, especially with windows making up 90+% of the desktop/laptop market.

Finally not everyone wants to spend $1500 on a new desktop that only has a 1.4 GHz CPU or $1800 for a laptop and can't even run Source games at 60fps.

        • @merill: Onsite means the site you're at. Fixed on the spot.

        • -1

          @markopolo:

lol misinformed. Alright hipster. Continuing believing Apple products are value for money.

        • @merill:
If your a developer, you should not have removed OSx. The OS, OSx or any Unix deriviant, was designed for developers. Your loosing a lot of tools / utilities …..

      • Surface Pro 3, Dell XPS 13, HP Spectre

Fellow Bargainers Beware! Read the Product review for Dicksmith first.

332 Terrible Rating out of 479 Votes. You do the Maths thats 69%. They steal your money and dont give you the product.
    F* You DICK SMITH

    • I've not had a problem with multiple orders. Sure occasionally it can take a while to deliver and for one order you can receive multiple packages from different stores which makes tracking confusing.

Having said that, I wish they would just permanently discount their prices. I simply will only buy now when products are on sale.

    • +14

But honestly, when did the last time any of us write a positive review for a store that we like?

We on the other hand are very actively writing bad review should anything happen to our order to make sure our voice is heard.

And no i don't work for Dicksmith.

      • But honestly, when did the last time any of us write a positive review for a store that we like?

Absolutely agree and I personally haven't had any bad experience when ordering from them.

But it is always nice to know what other people have had to deal with as well as the whole price hike before sale phenomenom, which is definitely skirting very close to being illegal if it isn't actually.

      • Not writing a review is positive.

    • Yeah, if you expect refund from DickSmith online it will take forever or never. I had bad experience with them waiting for a refund for a month and never happened. They kept telling me it will be refunded in 2-5 business day every time I called. Finally, made a paypal claim and got my money back. So be careful!

      • Same here. Once they have your dollars be prepared for headaches.

    • Interesting, you joined just to post that…

    • I had that problem on 2 past orders. Another reason I don't shop dick

    • I think 1/10 shops have a decent score on that site. A great place to spew venom.

    • I've laso had huge problems with them taking money, not delivering goods…then jerking around with refund. I also had to go to PayPal to get my money back. Seems from the other comments I am not the only one. Granted, any company is great when things go well. But the real test is when things don't. If you are brave enough to order from Dick Smith, make sure you use PayPal…as if something goes wrong and you are due a refund, that is the only way you'll get it.

      • +2

Another one that just joined to post that!

  • Apple TV Deal?
    $59 for it please

    • I remember when I had vouchers that I purchased with vouchers between stores and bought 4 Apple TV 2's for $49 at DJ's with free HDMI Cables!
Then a few of months after the 3 came out, I sold two of them for $250 each because you could jail break them but not the 3's!

  • +7

Here comes all the haters from under the bridge.

I for one bought a mbpr 13 inch from DSE using this 15% deal and the 10% bonus from coles. Couldn't be happier getting it within a week of purchase. Hater's will hate.

    • +2

How do you get the 10% from coles?

      • Was a giftcard promo couple weeks back, over now.

        • You can add mutiple gift cards in one order? Arent the max gift cards at coles $50 or someething?

        • @Turd: I'm not sure really, nor what Frozensage did.

        • @Turd:

my record was using 20 gift cards plus credit card for the remaining.

coles sells $100 dse gift cards too.

        • @Frozensage: LOL online ? or instore?

        • @Turd:

          Online of course.

I did use 27 gift cards at jb in store when they had that mastercard deal couple of years ago for a tv. Apparently the shop keeper said 30 was the record so back luck to me lol

        • @Frozensage: hahahaha nice work!

    • +1

Yep, I just got one too using both deals, plus I'm hopping overseas in a couple of weeks, so I can get the GST refund. I was originally going to hang on till the newer Skylake based MacBooks came out, but the reduction of availability of Macs on the DSE website has me worried that this would be the best deal I could get. Maybe they might stop selling Macs soon like someone else here mentioned? Anyway I didn't want to be stuck with $2000 of DSE gift cards I didn't want.
Meanwhile, I've saved close to $800 with this deal, so I don't think anyone can complain about Dick, even though they do a lot of deals. They're playing a game, and so are the Ozbargainers.

  • +3

    Fair deal for a change.

Not interested in apple products myself, but going by above comments it seems prices haven't been jacked up to compensate for the discount code, which is IMPORTANT. No idea about other comments regarding certain apple products not being listed.

  • No listing of iPhone 6 or iPhone 6S.

    https://www.dicksmith.com.au/apple-iphone

  • +10

Can we stop dicking around and enjoy the fact that DS didn't jack up the prices for once?

  • Hey Dick, got any iPhone 6 deals?

  • +4

Why is there still low stock on iMacs and no new MacBooks DESPITE advertising them on your website ?

    • +3

      why do yo u think?… :) hehehe

    • They are a little under powered though.

      • +1

Sure they are underpowered for big processing tasks but I can use remote desktop to my main computer for anything it can't handle.

I don't get why they aren't instock even without the sales. Same with the 15" MBP they haven't been instock now for weeks. Are they just trying to screw with us or be a dick? My thought is that apple has cut them off as a reseller and they are ditching old stock

        • I'm wondering the same about Sony - no TV's listed there since their last series was around. They would have higher margins for their own sourced stuff so maybe they will have less and less name brands in the future (and given I used to work for a supplier of DSE branded goods I wouldn't go near them).

  • Can never understand all the negative comments about DS contrasting with the often high number of votes the store gets.

  • +9

Dicksmith is possibly the only place that plays us for idiots all the while there marketing department is cheering that there constantly getting on the front page.. daily.

Either have decent deals, AND STOCK .. or (profanity) off. I'm pretty much over seeing Dicksmith deals daily that are NOT deals.

    /end rant

    • -5

They do have stock for the items I want though. So not sure why you are ranting about. Must be the entitlement era of some.

    • +20

      while there marketing department

      their

      that there constantly getting on

      they're or they are

    • +5

Cool. However, your rant does not relate to this deal.

      • They still wanted to rant and be the only "NEG" on this offer. Straya m8

    • +1

Have bought several items from Dick Smith thanks to OzBargain. If you hate them so much, save yourself some effort don't even click on their deals.

    • I'm pretty much over seeing Dicksmith deals daily that are NOT deals.

      Abso'fn'lutely!!!
I just wish the mods actually took a real stance nowadays like they used to in banning spam like this rather than merely filling the pages!
Turns out that my negs for DS issues aren't worthy enough and revoked!

  • When is the new version coming?

    • Next year. If you keep on chasing the newest one you will grow old….

  • +2

Post a deal and not sticking around to answer questions is not good.

  • ooOOo gotta check this new mac 12 inch

  • ok was looking at the 11inch and on the apple website its a 1.6Ghz but on dick smith online its 1.5Ghz … wtf lol
and they both the same price too

  • Thanks Dick, you saved me some dolla dolla bills

  • If they had stock of RMBP 15" I would bite. Anyways, too late…

Is the next iteration of the iPad due September this year?

    • iPad pro ?

      • I don't know. Never heard of the iPad pro.

  • Any chance of putting the 12" MacBook on sale ?

  • Thanks just got the 13" macbook for $1400 with my dick smith vouchers from coles! Was waiting for this deal :)

    • +1

was it the one that costs around 1799?

      • Yeah it was the 13" Retina macbook pro.

  • Last month I bought a phone from them and travel a long way to pick it up only to find out they don't have the color I ordered. The staff even lie saying they called everyone ordered. No business with them again. NEVER.
