There is no email verification when you create a new account.. So one can try random email addresses.. and whichever gives 50% discount, use that email address to create a new account and place the order.

  • Sorry didnt read instructions properly. Couldn't get a code for the life of me!

  • Ordered one with 50% discount. Chose DHL courier freight for extra $10. However, got an email advising that because I'm in a "remote" area (Port Macquarie), it would cost an EXTRA $37.00! Don't think so…

    • Their list of what is remote comes from DHL themselves. I would assume TNT is probably just as cheap?

      • Well, I hope not. TNT has a depot here, so hopefully not classed as "remote". I'm only 4 hours drive from Sydney. Get stuff all the time overnight and never been classed as remote. Might just have to wait the 10-15 working days…

        • I'm stuck in Tassie where there are several TNT depots and DHL isn't even in the state :P Though I found at checkout that DHL was significantly more expensive for Australia than TNT and EMS.

  • +1

Pretty sure they have exhausted their 50% vouchers.

I tried legit email addresses (mine and family) and got 3 * 40's at best and then tried around 100 random email addresses and still not a single 50%.

    Anyone had any luck recently?

    • Same problem here :(

    • Maybe try from different computers/mobile devices too.. Try using mobile data so the IP address is different..

  • Link not loading for me. Anyone else with the same problem?

  • Link is not working for me. I have been trying since past 3 hours but no luck.

  • +1

Maybe they have been OZBARGAINED. :-)

    • Looks like their whole website is having trouble. Main page comes up with no images at all.

      • +1

        Working fine now.

  • unable to order 2 pieces :(..It says can order only 1

  • yeah probably ozbargained..
i have tried on a few emails.. only getting 20/30% off.

Given this thread - http://forum.tronsmart.com/forum/tronsmart-orion-r28/253-net… - does anyone know if this will definitely do netflix hd (eg is the chip compatible?)??

    • Nice find!!!

    • +1

From what I've read previously on different sites I doubt that this will play Netflix in HD. But I'd be happy to be wrong

  • .
Thanks wintoand for posting this I got the "Meta" with 30% off code I tried to order 2 but it wouldn't let me, total AU$97.77 standard Air-Mail has a tracking number I used that

Do you have to pay the US$99.99 for a 2nd one ? (it was to be a gift for a old friend he has a WD TV box….. no 30% off so I didn't get him one)
I've been wanting to get a WD TV on special missed Shopping Express special so was glad to get this at this price and it's a 64 bit with Android 5.1

    • buy it on another email maybe?

  • Ugh out of emails and most I got was 40% :<

I guess I make more email addresses

    • Mailinator.com

  • Read reviews from Amazon, though it is for their last version tv box:
    http://www.amazon.com/Tronsmart-Orion-R28-Medi-Player/produc…

  • +1

Best i could manage was 40%. But that was good enough.

Around $75AU for the cheaper one with DHL shipping and postal insurance. Pretty happy with that.

Already got a few media players though. Lol. But this should be a good upgrade on my Pi2.

Cannot edit the Original Post for what ever reason.
To amend some errors and confusion.

The Advertised Ethernet speed on the Promo web site is correct 10/100.
New Model late next month will have 1GB Lan.
They mention a Micro SD card in descriptions, incorrect it's an SD card as seen in images.
For the promo price paid not a biggy.

    • Yep. It turns out that's why the price is so low.

      • I will be using it mostly for steaming and transferring files for viewing on the TV. My NBN speed is 100Mb so a 100Mb LAN port is just right.

    • hmm the network speed 'change' might be a game changer for some, especially if they were going to use this as NAS / Plex server.

  • Can anyone ozb's confirm/deny if hdmi CEC works out of the box with this ?

I have a working odroid c1 but remote controlling with my TV remote is the only real nuisance.

    Thanks!

    • Doesnt look like jt, theyve been testing in beta form for some time according to teh interwebs

  • Ugh, got the 50% code last night but can't decide whether I should pull the trigger or wait for an Intel Skylake system. 100M LAN port for 4k/60fps could be a deal breaker.

    • I think they have disabled the 50% codes completely. I got mine from last night but it doesn't work anymore.

      • lol thanks. That's solved it!

      • +1

Nope. I just created a new random account and applied 50% code from the code I got yesterday. And this 50% code has been applied successfully.

Anyone who wants this 50% code can PM me. First come first serve. I already bought one yesterday.

The risk I can think of is the email used is a random email harakirimail account.

        • Code taken.

  • So to confirm, the Tronsmart website shows the specs as 10/100/1000 lan for the same model, yet Geek Buying is shipping a model with only 10/100 lan. That seems very strange.

Out of curiosity, what is your basis wintoand?

    • +1

I can confirm that it is 10/100. Tronsmart have done this for the special promotion with Geekbuying. After the promotion, when the prices of the devices are raised, they will ship out the ones with Gigabit.

      • 10/100 sadpandaface

  • +5

Due to the overwhelming support from both Ozbargain and a lot of other sites the deal is going to be stopped. All your orders will be honoured and we will be holding another promotion for this very soon for anyone that missed out. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    • thank you for sharing the deal and keeping us informed.

      • We decided it was best to end it now before we run out of stock.

        • Hope your honouring with GB LAN ;)

        • @droodle: That will be up to Tronsmart, not GB.

        • @Clear: Tell tronsmart that we're looking forward for the GB Lan. Especially the first batch is crucial for online review. :)

        • @blue_panther9_9: I'll pass that onto Geekbuying staff to tell Tronsmart ;)

        • @Clear:
Hope you do honour the GB LAN - the specifications at the bottom of the page show Gigabit LAN

          http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Tronsmart-Orion-R68-Meta-Andr…

          specifically this image
          http://image1.geekbuying.com/content_pic/201507/geekbuying-e…

        • @gooseberry: Yeah the image by Tronsmart says that, however the specifications table does not. Tronsmart decided that the first batch is 10/100 and not gigabit. It wasn't my decision and there is nothing I can do about it.

Btw, I'm third-party marketing and not a GB employee ;)

        • @Clear:

The image has a geekbuying watermark on it - which says to an outsider, that it's from geekbuying.

        • @gooseberry: Most of these Chinese retailers will watermark the images, but they almost always come from the manufacturer.

        • @gooseberry: The promo page definitely said gigabit (it still does) but the 100mb lan was at least mentioned on the final product page. Confusing, but at 50% off I'd still buy it

  • So in a word:
    They really was OZBARGAINED

    Well done Team. :-)

    • And Slickdealed, Freaktabed etc etc ;)

  • Excellent…

  • I requested a change to my delivery address (work instead of home) and got the following reply.

"Thanks your order .,please be at ease ,we have corrected the shipping address according your request .
we are writing to inform you that the coupon 50% you used can only for one pc of "http://www.geekbuying.com/item/348376" .
The second pc must be original price $99.99 .so you should make up the price difference $50 if you want to keep 2 pcs .
otherwise ,we can only remove one and refund you the price difference .Have you any idea ?
We honestly apologize for the inconvenience. If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know."

    I ordered two units.

Did anyone else get the following email?
I'm certainly not going to be sending them another $50.

    • I don't think they anticipated that people would be using multiple emails to score more than 1 unit, so that would be why. The rules of this promotion have been enforced by Tronsmart themselves.

      • It wasn't multiple emails. The website allowed people to order as many units as they wanted using the one account.
Some people ordered 3 or more for family members based on the comments here. There was no restriction. The quantity field could be freely changed and there was no validation at checkout.

This company seems more and more dodgy the further this goes on.
Listing specs incorrectly, now changing the rules after people have placed an order.
I'm not going to be responding to that email. Doubtful I'll be buying from this company again.

Perhaps using some sort of inventory management to not sell more than they had available might be an idea. Instead of attempting to take stock from people that have already "successfully" completed their orders.

        • So the coupon discounted all products in the cart and not just one?

The specs on the page always said 10/100, but I do think they should have stated it.

Edit: Also they're not out of stock. There is plenty of stock, but the promotion is temporarily halted.

        • Yes it discounted them. They are the product that was being offered at a discount. I didn't order something different I ordered two of the $99 units.

If Tronsmart are enforcing the rules then they should have been clear with GB that it wouldnt be a one per person promotion, this is not stated anywhere on the website.

The specs in the image at the bottom of the page state 10/100/1000M ethernet which to most would indicate gigabit. So at least we agree on that.

As a rep you never said anything about there being an issue earlier when people were placing multiple item orders. I highly doubt people are going to put $135 on a product which has no reviews and from the 10/100mb sounds like potentially early batches are being shipped at a discount.

"Also they're not out of stock. There is plenty of stock, but the promotion is temporarily halted." … Well I'd suggest a better approach is to honour the orders that they already have and put restrictions on the website so that people can only order one, and make it clear that the promotion only means one unit. Perhaps a grey area would be around anyone that placed a commercial quantity for resale in Australia, but common sense surely could be applied.

        • @hellrazorone: To clarify I'm 3rd party marketing and not an employee of Geekbuying. I live in Australia and have an arrangement with their staff to advertise here. The first I knew of this deal was when it was posted here by wintoand. I only found out about the 1 per person and the LAN being 100mb when I spoke to their staff last night. If I had known that before hand I would have definitely said it here.

As for a better approach at stopping the promotion. I think there are lot of things they could have done better, but I simply have no input in any of it, so there is nothing I can do. Unfortunately communication is their weak point and one of the main reasons why I post here for them.

        • @Clear: still on halt i guess

        • @ziya920: I really have no idea when it will come back.

        • In my opinion, [@Clear] has never really been able to make up his mind about his role as a geekbuying employee. It is my opinion that they're definitely paying him, but he continually ducks and weaves when anyone asks for an explanation. I have observed that his answers to questions about his relationship with geekbuying are, in my opinion, inconsistent.

        • @douglasb: He is in marketing anyway, so the decisions aren't in his department.

    • yes, I received the same email message about the discount only be applicable to one unit. That's annoying, but I'm not butthurt about it as the T&C did state (not that I read them at the time of ordering) that the discount was for only 1 piece. Neither am I butthurt about the 10/100 NIC instead of the 10/100/1000 NIC that was advertised.

The first units are on CLERARANCE SALE price, because there is obviously a revision 1.1 with the faster NIC and a microSD slot already in production. Don't expect as heavy a discount on the upgraded units is my expectation.

I'm just hoping that Rockchip support this chipset and release linux etc. source for it so that the firmware modders can dive into it as soon as possible. I bought an Amlogic S89 based player last year and was underwhelmed at the CONTINUING support (initial support was great, but of course it died off in less than a year due to new models, new chipsets etc.)

      • That's right, the promo always said the offer is for one unit only.

        • Where is that? I still can't find the text that says the discount applies to one unit only.

        • @hellrazorone: site isn't loading for me anymore..

        • @badarz: site is loading fine now? was definitely patchy though

        • @bargainhunter999: site is back now but i can't find where i saw the one piece only rule.. sorry

      • Looking at the Tronsmart website, it says it is a SD Card slot.

      • Wanna elaborate on this micro sd slot? Are you saying it doesn't have one????

        • +1

not this initial release, no.. it has a full size SD slot.

        • @gizmomelb: darn, but I guess are micro's come with adapters anyway's…. thnx for the reply tho.

  • Any idea of how long till these get sent?

  • I would definitely consider purchasing once the deal is taken out of "halt" status provided that a similar discount is in place.

It would be very much appreciated Clear if this could be passed on to Geek Buying.

It would be a bonus if gigabit lab units were further provided.

Thank you again to everyone for all their efforts.

    • yes send me a gigabit one too, as I had plans that require gigabit.

the description was a bit misleading so its only fair

  • Can anyone get the promo website direct.
I can thru a VPN but not direct?
Hmm Ok it just came good again. weird stuff a foot me thinks.

  • Dont get your hopes up guys. Ive bought 2 units… but clearly these guys are dodgy and dont understand how australians do business… im really not expecting big things from these units… especially after checking the experience of other customers on various websites.

    • They had assumed it was common sense that it was 1 per user because it asked for their email to get the coupon. While all other promotions that are not give out a generic coupon freely. Unfortunately people didn't pick up on that, so they should have definitely stated it.

      • I understand that there's a financial incentive for you but stating that it was common sense to order more than one unit is insulting. Most people have more than one TV and I like to have similar setups on both, so that I can watch anything in different rooms within the house. This is unacceptable behaviour from a company; and its something that GB and Tronsmart need to work out. Damaging your reputation with new customers is clearly worth more to GB than having a conversation with Tronsmart about the complete balls up they made of things and honoring existing orders. Perhaps you can relay some of the frustration/complaints/feedback back to GB instead of washing your hands clean of the situation when it suits you.

        • That's what Geekbuying had said, not me personally.

The Geekbuying staff read these posts and I relay peoples concerns back all the time, which I have been doing for this. It's half the reason the promotion was stopped so early.

  • Bought as a replacement for my WDLive is the WiFi better on this unit anyone know ? Ta.

  • I also ordered 2 units in one transaction @ 50% off. If Geekbuying cancels my order or choses to supply only 1 unit, it will be my last dealing with them.

    • +8

up until their next special right?

  • Has anyone heard anything about their orders yet? I haven't even received a confirmation email - nothing!
But the money has gone and I paid extra for DHL as well. I smell a big fat decaying rat somewhere but hope its just the dog!

    • Yes I got an order confirmation straight after ordering (to the email address used).

      • Thanks badarz, it looks like my reverse Midas touch is happening again.

    • hmmm check your roof cavity, could be where your dead rat is. Or just wait a few days until the smell clears…. hopefully your dog is not dead in the roof….
Wait a minute, what does this have to do with…

    • Geekbuying won't email you a confirmation email, but Paypal will. You'll get an email from Geekbuying once it's sent.

  • I got a confirmation email.. but not the shipping email with tracking details… been 2 days..

    • +5

Will be shipped from Monday next week.

      • For everyone or just hippyhippy?

        • Everyone.

        • @Clear:

So it should have shipped yesterday but I haven't had any confirmtion as yet?

        • @Voldox: From Monday. Not on Monday.
