      • Thanks could not find it to show.;-)

      • Since the 50% discount code only works on the Orion R68 items, I ordered the Tronsmart TSM01 English Version Air Mouse + Keyboard for TV Box / PC / Motion Sensing Games with the 5% welcome discount code in a separate order.

  • the specs mention '1xIR Remote'. Does this mean it comes with a basic remote control, and if not, any easy 'non-keyboard' ways of controlling it?

  • +2

K400r Logitech is easy to use

  • Need something to run Netflix, NBA tv and Plex on my dumb Spny tv.. will this do the trick nicely?

    • +1

      Yes.

    • it will.

  • Very tempted, but I'd love to know whether the hardware can handle streaming over VPN

    • +4

the real question would be whether your VPN can handle streaming

      • I've not had a single problem streaming onto my laptop and pc over my PIA VPN connection

        • Then you shouldnt have any issues. Im running Netflix and streaming movies from my computer using a much lower spec'd Android Device and I am using PIA.

  • Thanks OP.
I've been looking for a new media player as our existing box is about 3 years old with bugger all RAM and running an ancient version of Android.
    Haven't seen anything under $AU80.
Rolled the dice and got a 50% discount first off, so bought the higher spec one for $AU70.
Only issue is delivery time of 15-30 business days. If it's 30 business days I'll have forgotten all about it by the time I get it.

    • Free shipping has always taken about 3 weeks to reach me here in Tas.

    • should have selected free TNT or other courier delivery.. supposedly 3-5 days

      • How did you get free TNT?

At checkout it shows DHL AUD$9.48, EMS AUD$10.48 and TNT AUD$9.68

EDIT: Nvm, just had a look at the comments further below and it's free if you order more than one it seems and it seems you can no longer order more than one as of now

  • Hey Guys,

I was looking just yesterday and the cheapest Rockchip RK3368 based Android Box I could find was the Beelink i68 which was $86.19 AUD from gearbest.com with a voucher, So i tried for this and got a 50% voucher so ended up with a 1G/8G for $52 AUD Landed.

I really hope someone ports the Leanback Launcher Gapps to this device.

    Cheers Rob.

  • Can someone tell me where does it say that it can play avi,mkv,mp4 etc ?

    • Using an app like MX Player or VLC will allow you to play .mkv etc.

      • +1

and just about anything else. :-)

        • +1

Kodi has plugins for those formats anyway if I'm not mistaken.

  • anyone want to weigh in on the pro/con/value of the extra $15 (assuming 50% off code) of going from 1G/8G model to the 2G/16G model?
for a media player running kodi is it $ well spent

    • +2

      More ram is always good.
      For storage and smooth operation.

    • +1

1GB RAM, 8GB ROM and 2.4GHz Wifi vs 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM and dual band 2.4/5GHz Wifi.

Remember that the Android system will take up a bit of space, so you're going to be left with less than 8GB for apps, media etc.

    • +2

I always recommend to get the 2GB model of these devices. I always find 1GB too limiting.

    • Just don't expect them to ever get OTA updates or support from their manufacturers.

      • I thought they all using the same OTA updates., Ok.

        • +3

Nope. Those devices on aliexpress are just generic OEM/ODM devices that often don't have a name attached like Tronsmart, MINIX etc and usually have buggy firmware. Tronsmart will push the OTA updates from their own servers with their own firmware.

  • Thanks for the post
I can only see some digital audio output. How would you plug some headphones with a 3.5mm jack to it (I don't have any 3.5mm audio jack port on my TV either)?

    • you can't. you'd be better off buying some bluetooth headphones, then listening to the media player using those.

  • Cheers for the deal, managed to get a 50% coupon.
I use an AFTV primarily with Kodi to play back media but I also picked up a X8-H to dabble in 4k. The X8 could certainly play back the content, but performance was always very hit and miss.
Looking forward to giving this a crack :)

  • Is this better than a roku 3? All I use in plex / hulu / netflix which Roku does a good job with. I would like to be able to use abc iview bbc iplayer as well.

  • +1

Hello guys, how would i stream hong kong live tv on this device?

  • +4

Bought two to replace the failing Western Digital media players, let's hope for the best!

Surprised TNT shipping was free :)

    • +2

Got one as well to replace buggy WDTV. They need to get their act together.

    • Free tnt?
      Lucky you!

Only had standard airmail for me

    • $7.25 USD for just 1 unit ;)

      • all courier options were free for me, so I selected TNT.

        • How many did you order?

        • @Clear: three, one for my Mum and two to replace the Tronsmart S89 media players we bought a year or two ago.

        • +1

@gizmomelb: That would be why. Anymore than 1 would be free :P

  • I stream video/music from the PC to the TV via a PS3 (inc .mkv).

What will this box be able to offer me above streaming video/music?

  • can you run other android apps? How do you control it through this interface with a controller given most apps are touch layouts? IE: If I bought one for me mum, she'd mainly use some streaming apps

    • Usb mouse?

    • Android has inbuilt support for keyboard, mouse, Xbox controllers etc. Connecting a mouse will give you a cursor and the controller support depends on the games.

      • Thanks, have you got a recommended bluetooth keyboard/touchpad combo that would suit using this for other android apps?

        • I use the Logitech K400R and the MX3 Remote and it does the job well on a lot of apps, but not really suitable for most games.

  • Any USB Keyboard, Mouse Wireless with dongle. just about any USB device.
And just about all android Apps.

  • Does it worth paying $10 USD more for extra 1GB ram and 8GB storage?

  • Hi

Is it possible to stream content from your android phone to this device. Something similar to chromecast.

    Thanks

    • +1

      Yes
      Its Miracast/DLNA Supported

      • Sorry for my lack of knowledge. Any application needed for this feature?

        • +1

          No
For Android 4.2 above will support Miracast
For iOS 6 above will support Airplay/DLNA

        • Thanks

  • +1

Bought one but I'll prob install another launcher when it arrives. The stock android doesn't look remote friendly

    • Let us know what launcher you find that is remote friendly, I have the same reservations

  • Thanks ordered one, Hopefully I will find some use of it.

  • +1

    Also bought the 2gb player.

Made up an email to get the 50% off.

Hopefully get a bit of use out of it.

  • Could I plugin a external hard drive and use it as a NAS? Including serving stuff up over Plex (upnp?).

    • +1

you could run a server app (android) on it to share the attached HDD, if you really needed to - and your modem didn't already have a USB port for sharing media.

    • +1

This app is popular and allows you to use any device as a NAS. Seems to have more features than most others.

    • I have used Plex on every Media Box I have, always works so should be find

      • Can you use plex as the server? I have only ever used it as a player.

I'm thinking this would be perfect as a home server combined with the 5tb external hdd.

  • +1

Got the 50% coupon on my third attempt, using variations of my Gmail account. Ended up paying $79.96 AUD for the $99 one with 3-5 day shipping to regional Queensland.

Very interested in having a play with this device!

  • Does this player require you to install media player apps on android or does it just have its own built in?
For netflix, would this player be able to output 5.1 sound? I assume you would have to install the android netflix app.
I assume the SPDIF port would be well able to output 5.1 from various streams DTS/AC3 etc (I have an older home theatre reciever without HDMI).

    • It comes with some of the useful apps pre installed and some you have to install yourself. Having Google Play Store in it makes it pretty handy.

  • Anyone got a recommended bluetooth keyboard/touchpad combo that would suit using this for other android apps?

    • +1

      I just found this - http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Tronsmart-TSM-01-Air-Mouse---…

Is this whats included with the player? No info on the remote on product page. From viewing the unboxing video, looks like there's no keyboard on the back of it so you can't really type without a separate keyboard, right?

      • The TV boxes like this normally come with remote which is merely for navigating the pointer. For the keyboard, you can enable a on-screen keyboard which pops up when you click in any typing field.

Personally I find the one-screen keyboard very annoying and I disable it and use a normal keyboard like Logitech K400R with inbuilt Touchpad.

The one that you posted above would also be a good and compact keyboard/air mouse combo.

  • Can this device be easily rooted? The app i want to use only generally work on samsungs.

  • Don't know if this sports HDMI-CEC which is brilliant with the OpenElec Kodi Raspberry pi on the Samsung system. Hope it does as some Tronsmart stuff seems to

    • that would be good

  • How long did it take to receive the discount voucher for you guys?

    • It shows the discount code straight away on your screen when you enter your email address.

  • Thanks OP, got two.

Went with DHL 3-5 day, TNT are hopeless when/if you need a re-delivery.

    • +1

How did you get two? I can't seem to add more than one to my cart or I get a message 'Sorry , you can only buy one pcs.'

      • Not sure, bought them a few hours ago, maybe they've stopped people buying multiples now.

Actually now I can't even add one to my cart.

  • .

Another difference between the Meta & Pro is the WiFi as this review points out

    http://linuxgizmos.com/media-player-mini-pc-runs-android-on-…

The "Pro" gives you 1GB DDR3 RAM, 8GB eMMC flash, and 802.11n WiFi,
while the "Meta" doubles the memory and advances the WiFi to 802.11ac.

  • +1

Got the 50% off code first time. Bought the R68 Meta for $70au delivered. Was looking for a kodi player, thanks op.

    • +2

      not really a review there

      • Yeah, sorry about that. Glanced, listed here and then read the rest to come to the same conclusion. The Linuxgizmos article is much better, so ignore this one.

  • +1

Damn i just purchased a MINIX NEO X8-H Plus (http://www.minix.com.hk/Products/NEO-X8-H-Plus-Android-TV.ht…) and it arrived today… Thinking whether i should get this one too now for the other bedroom?

Anyone know how these 2 devices compare?

  • +2

Just be aware very soon there will be Amlogic s912 devices coming out.

    http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/03/27/amlogic-s905-s912/
    http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/07/08/eny-em95-android-mini…

just have no idea, which one is better

    some discussion here:

    http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/07/10/rockchip-rk3368-based…

look at this one, looks very very tempting:

Core M NH6 PC on Stick from Quanta
    http://www.itrunsonlinux.com/hardware/core-m-nh6-pc-on-stick…

  • Not sure how others purchased more than one, i was only able to order one, it wouldnt let me add more than one to the cart.

    • Probably used two email addresses.

    • +1

When did you try? I ordered around midday and got two.

Perhaps they changed the limit to avoid selling too many too cheap.

  • Alright I'm in. Needed a replacement for an ancient Mac Mini that's been doing duties as a media centre that's on it's last legs.

  • goto site selct AU$ and th sows as $101 i think it works out cheaper

    • +1

It will convert to US and back to AU when you checkout though.

      • dang

  • Am I right in assuming that I'm going to need an adapter to plug the power supply into an Australian power socket? Thanks

    • +1

no, i think depending on currency it sends you that adapter. according to their webpage.

  • +1

One should be supplied in the box.

  • -1

Anyone got a spare 50% code they mind sending me? thanks
