OMG. I wish my contract would hurry up and end. Only 2 months left, but they won't let me change to a SIM Only plan, because it's cheaper than my current plan and Sim only plans don't have a contract.

    • That happened to me in June when I had two months left. But I called up and they let me change to SIM only plan. But of course I had to pay cancellation fee and remaining handset repayments.

      • -1

I think my cancellation fee would be over $100. It's not worth it.

    • I am in the same boat..

  • Should I run to coles and get a $2 optus sim and activate before i call?

    • +1

      No.

  • -5

wow.. with this you can just disconnect the home phone and adsl (probably around $80/m), and even share (tether/hotspot) with few family members at home!

    • +12

Really? 8gb will last a few people a month?

      • +3

for checking ozbargain only probably! :)

      • -1

I am on 500MB for the past 2 years. It's definitely manageable, especially if you work in a wifi environment.

        • +5

What? Erwin was talking about using 8gb mobile data as home internet for the family.

      • I remember back in 2003 when 3gb per month was considered massive lol

        • +2

Lol, I remember using dial up.

        • +2

          @shadow131: I remember using nothing!

        • Not so long ago cable access was full of 3 gb or 10-12 gig plans. Erwin isn't that far off
108GB for my record on Vodafone. So meh.

      • It's a joke. In the picture it says 200GB per month.

    • +4

Do you know about other websites than ozbargain? I believe i spend monthly more on Ozbargain alone than 8GB.

    • 8GB/ month for a whole household??? That's 266MB/day!

      • +1

Thats 1 episode of Orange is the new black in HD on netflix.

      • In the picture it says 200GB per month.

    • DONT WORRY ERWINSIE I GOT YOUR (profanity) BACK YO

OP I think you may have been mistaken. The Optus Sales consultant is telling me they're offering it for $50. If you have an Optus broadband connection, you get that $10 discount, so only then it becomes $40/month.

    • +1

Possible. I don't follow these discounts so you could be right.

  • +1

Yes, this $50 deal has been going on for a while but phone call/chat only. Same one is $60 online but first month free.
If you have Optus broadband, you get a further $10 off.

  • got a same reply for me too

  • Has anybody tried calling for a price on an m8+1gb data? Might have to try it myself.

  • +1

Just speaking to a rep now, the offer is $50 a month, plus the additional $10 with a bundled account.

The offer is valid until the 2nd of August apparently.

    • Thank you. Saved me from chatting with sales rep.

  • +1

I signed up to this in June,
8gb, 300 Intl minutes and unlimited Intl text(select countries), unlimited calls/SMS/MMS,
    $50 month.

Back then it was due to expure on '5 July'.

For me the plan is good.

    • +1

Drops down to $40 for the opt us home internet package as well,
Unfortunately, no NBN in our 'city'

  • +4

I noticed my grandfather Woolworth Prepaid plan is now includes 8Gb of data for $26 for 45 days as well as calls and txt.

    • Calls/text free?

    • wow, is this true. im also on the $26- Woolies plan from last year and haven't noticed anything different.

    • Sure, I have accumulated 15 gb. Most likely referring to rollover

as for this deal it scale to 16‰, not the 33% most people want.
      Bundling isn't desired.

All for $26 only downside no 4G

  • Just changing my plan. Thanks for the post @terahammer

  • Only available for existing customers. Everyone else is $50

    • +1

For existing customers "with an existing bundle". That's the key misleading fact here.

And this is not a new deal.

  • Thanks OP. I was waiting for this deal after missed out on last one.

  • +7

    Optus Chat getting Ozbargained LOL.

  • Im currently on the $50/month plan for the same thing. I have no other optus products though. Im guessing I can't go onto this one?

  • +1

unfortunately i am on the sales chat. They said $40 is only applicable if you have optus bundle.
$50 for $60 plan, and if you have bundle then extra $10 off
I was quite excited to hear $40 at first :(

    • +1

Still $50 unlimited calls, text and 8GB of 4g data is a good deal IMO

  • Maybe it's worth asking if you can still get the first month free on top of the $50 plan with$10 discount for existing broadband customers.

  • Is this targeted?? i.e. for Optus customer? or can anyone get it? if targeted than MEH nothing new..

  • Thanks OP great deal

  • I just signed up for $50 a month. Currently with boost.
They will deduct another $10 if you have another service. I explained that i can't merge both services but they said as long as the billing address is the same they will apply the discount.

    • I dont have home internet with them, but I bought an iPad through them earlier this year, so the rep is trying his best to link my service with this deal and see if i can get the $40 offer. Fingers XX'd

  • I'm an existing Optus customer and tried to get this via their online chat… no go…
either $60 for 8gb or $45 for 4gb. $10 discount for being Optus cable internet user.
Still… I've finished my contract and am currently paying $50/month for 3gb (what I was paying on my regular contract) so to go from that to $35 for 4gb is still good :) Seeing the deal just made me actually get around to fixing up my plan. I don't think I realised the sim only plans were month to month.

    • +2

      Leave Optus site.
      Revisit.
      New rep.
      Win.

    • I only signed up with Optus pre-paid approx 10 days ago and was able to get the plan for $50. The rep has just switched me across and the new plan should be activated in less than 4 hours.

      Keep trying.

    • Try again. This is definitely an offer available to them.

  • +10

I've got to give this a negative vote at the moment, title and opening line needs to very clearly stipulate that it is for customers that have an existing OTHER Optus service.

    • +1

just checked and it is definitely just the $10 off home phone and mobile bundle deal dressed up as a mobile deal.

      • +1

This is NOT a deal. At best its a repeat of the $50 offer which was posted weeks ago.

Even the revised description is incorrect - I am an existing Optus customer buy I don't have broadband, home phone or a TV package with them so there is no $40 deal.

  • +1

Thanks OP, worked for me, I also found out that I'm on the $70 BB Bundle which gives me 50GB but he told me the 50GB was an old plan, so now I'm basically down from $45 to $40 (saving $5 and gaining 4GB Mobile) and down from my $70 BB Bundle to the NEW $70 BB Bundle (saving $0 and gaining 150GB) I guess the trick is to keep asking what you're eligible for.

  • +2

Looking good for me so far (we have NBN with Optus - they make sure the landline or broadband matches your address used for mobile phone signup).

    update:

"Albert A:Okay, then you will get $10 off on $50 SIM plan."
"Albert A:Shall I organize it for you now?"
    "Me: yes please."

  • +1

Spoke with David R, he was quick to offer the plan for $50 without any existing service, and worked hard to check there was not another product I could bundle to gain the additional $10 discount. Unfortunately I'm currently roaming the state on contract work and haven't the need for a fixed line service or an additional mobile broadband plan. He gave me his number for any further questions as 0873286079, I assume this is a direct line.

    • +2

David R, get ready to be Ozbargained!

      • +1

I hope so, he was straight and helpful and receives a commission.

  • How easy, took up the offer! was on the 34$ a month for 1.5 gb… 6$ more for 6.5gb more… worth it.
    Thanks

  • Thanks..worked for me.

  • -4

Deal is clearly misleading made me jump and realized its same old deal posted by me earlier.

  • -4

I just spent 15 minutes chatting to a clown who insisted the best they could do was $50/mth.

Apparently because I already get one $10 bundling discount on my wifes phone, I can't get the $60 SIM only for any less than $50.
MY CSR wasn't trying hard enough, and I told him/her that.

    • +3

Your CSR was correct. The $10 discount can only be applied on one phone plan per billing address.

" CAN I GET MULTIPLE DISCOUNTS ON THE SAME ACCOUNT?
Only one $10 mobile discount can be applied per broadband service address. If there are other postpaid mobile plans at this address, the discount will be applied to the first mobile plan that was connected with a home broadband service at this address."

      http://www.optus.com.au/shop/bundles/discount/10-dollars

    • +5

I don't understand why someone who does his job correctly has to be called a clown. If he is a clown then what would you call someone who does not read the T&Cs?

      • If he is a clown then what would you call someone who does not read the T&Cs?

        The general population.

      • +1

Maybe change that to "someone who hasn't read the T&Cs, who then argues with the CSR and calls them a clown."

  • Thanks, the MIL missed out on this deal last time. Just did the online chat to get it :)
Currently its a promotion only available through online chat.

Be prepared for the sales spiel to sign up to other services.

  • +1

Im an existing customer using broadband with postpaid mobile $45 unlimited calls 4Gb. Now changed it to $40 unlimited calls + 8gb data, but I have requested it start on my next call cycle as I have 27days remaining. This will continue with month to month no contract post paid.

    • Hi Disco, were you on a contract? When i tried to do it, they said i will have to pay early termination fee to end my earlier contract.

      • Hi Damnsmart,
No im not on a contract. Cheaper to buy outright these days, and find good value plans.

        • +1

Thanks mate, renegotiated….with other rep. Well, this time a male, he made it work. awesome!!!!!

  • Just changed my plans from amaysim to Optus, 5 bucks saved for an extra 3GB!

    Thanks heaps OP!

  • I noticed my grandfather Woolworth Prepaid plan is now includes 8Gb of data for $26 for 45 days as well as calls and txt.

    Unlimited calls ?

  • +2

    Thanks OP.
Saved me $10 pm and got 3gig extra.
    Offer ends 9 August.

  • Thanks! I was on the same plan for $60 with 6GB - just updated and scored extra data for $10 cheaper per month! Winner. Still working today over the phone if anyone was wondering.

  • +1

This has one month free when purchased online today.

also it available with Data pooling. My GF would only use about 1gb a month, so I'll get it on a shared account and I'll be able to use her other 7gig.

    Yay.
