    $250 for a backup phone?

    • +16

Don't underestimate the appeal of being able to browse in the bathtub…

6.4" screen, this thing is a monster! Not sure I'd be able to fit it into my pocket.

    • +2

I don't know how, but I do it

    • +1

You might as well call it a tablet with phone function.

      • Yep, they are called phablets.

    • +10

6.4" in the pocket seems about average I believe.

      • If you've been riding up the back off the bus.

    • Mine broke in my pocket as i bent down to pick something up and i heard it crack.. So beware lol…

      • Plumbers beware :)

  • i still have one of those $49 huawei android phone as my backup. unfortunately, not much use for me now as i'm using a iphone (different sim size) :P

    • +1

      $1 sim adaptor off eBay…

      • yup, have one of them :)

  • +10

They were 300 bucks brand new from MSY last year.

    • $349 and even at that price it's not worth it.

      • Depends on the person's use. I used mine as a mini tablet and found it great.

      • $319* how was that not worth it?

  • +5

I don't mind preowned phones, but not sure how I feel about buying a preowned phone that has no description of the condition…

  • +1

Since when Mobileciti sells preowned phones like EB Games? Are these in conditions like you get from Cashconverters with dirt and scratches everywhere on the screen and body or Sony refurbished?

  • +3

Maybe TA can get us a better deal

  • 179.4 x 92.2 x 6.5 mm…

i think the nexus 6 or iphone 6+ are big enough!

  • only attraction is water resistance part.. otherwise this is a dated device, but it should be able to run android M with no issues.

Sounds like being big is the only thing going for it. Underpowered battery for a display that size imho, who has big enough pockets to carry this (im struggling to carry the 5.9 LG G Pro 2 i got given :/)?. Camera looks ordinary (no led flash)

    • agree camera is sucks plus high risk of cracked screen

    • +1

The Camera does suck, but all the rest were awesome. not underbpowered battery at all. The battery outlast iphone easy. But the phone eventually died because weird screen problem: blurs when cold….. Summer was fine.

      • +3

Sell it to someone in NT

    • Your wrong about the battery use going from my real life usage, it's impressive compared to Sammy I thought. However this device was too large for me, I think 6" is about my sweetspot for a large phone.

I could just fit it in pockets. Most of the time :p

  • Don't recommend this phone, I own 2. Screen went crazy when there's tiny drop of water on it. But isn't this supposed to be using in water environment?

Also way too big, bad camera, Sony version of Android 5 experience sucks for me.

Screen went crazy when there's tiny drop of water on it. But isn't this supposed to be using in water environment?

Quite sure it's meant to be just water resistant rather than usable when wet. i.e. you can use it around water without worrying about damaging it. It might not suit your needs, but I found mine great.

I had no complaints about it being too big, because I knew very well how big it was before I bought it. I used it as a mini tablet rather than an everyday phone.

i.e. you can use it around water without worrying about damaging it.

Clearly you have never used the device wet as it's completely unuseable when it's wet.

        • +1

Clearly you didn't read my post. You can use it around water without worrying about damaging it if it gets wet, not "use it when wet".

      • from the sony advertisement it is designed to use in water environment, i nvr know why it is so sensitive to water to the extend that it is unusable. even some time i am hiding in bed using it, the steam from my breathing makes the screen go crazy.

Also my first phone died of water damage, because i touched the power button under water, and sony said it voids warranty. maybe i wasn't supported to do it but that is ridiculous to me.

  • waiting for it to drop under $150 ….

I also do not recommend this device having owned it due to an issue known as the "phantom touch" or "phantom input" issue which is caused by - well, normal levels of dirt/oil/sweat.

Basically to the user this means the device will detect touches at random from any contaminants. This is not just annoying although that's bad enough (repeatedly having to back out of apps, games being effected by random inout etc.), what's worst is the device is now a "time bomb" in effect as it may do anything at any time right in front of your eyes. So you might write a text only to have it send it to a random person, take a photo and the phone publically uploads it to social media and so on.

You can tune the touch sensitivity provided your device is rooted and you know how to edit a text file but I never found a good balance between no phantom touches and feeling nice to use

I have not experienced phantom input on any other devices, it's a Sony hardware flaw that wrecks the device IMO. Avoid is my recommendation.

    • +1

I've only had phantom touches a handful of times, only when there's an obvious drop of water/grime/whatever on there. It's sensitive because it allows you to use any pointy metal thing as a stylus (much more precise than the crappy capacitive pad styluses

    • I've seen phantom touch on a z2, had it after being used in sea water. Phantom input occured for awhile, but stopped after time. Only heard about it reoccuring again when the phone was again used in the pool a couple months later (the behaviour made me suspect there was some kind of minute leak around the screen)

    • …You've got 'glove mode' turned off in settings right? Mine's a Z2, not an ultra.. But I've seen that issue you have whenever I have 'glove mode' turned on in settings. With it off I've not ever had any troubles of the sort.
