Telstra Lumia 635 - $30 & Optus Huawei Y520 - $39 @ Kmart

170

Was just passing by Kmart and saw the Clearance stickers up on these 2 mobiles and thought they were a good price. This was at Kmart Chadstone, and as with previous deals should be nation wide. The guy was just putting the stickers up, so would be worth asking them to scan to check if they haven't got it at this price already.

They had 4 635's and 6 520's displayed at Chadstone. Also saw the following:

Optus Huawei Y520 - $39
Nokia Lumia 520 - $20
Telstra $2 Micro Sim's - 15c

Lumia 635 is a good one

  • is that a desire on the left? If so, which model I wonder?

    • the 300 one

      • thanks :)

      • Desire 300 is a good android 3G phone for the price. I have a HTC Desire 301s myself.

        • In your opinion $89 good deal? And what version android would you recommend running on it?

Something to keep in mind - the Telstra version of the Nokia 635 is the 512mb RAM version, and while it's still a great phone and capable of running most of the apps in the store, there are some (particularly games) that require 1gb. The Microsoft 532 comes with 1gb of RAM, and while it's a little more expensive when it goes on sale, I'd say it's a better buy for having the 1gb of RAM. The 635 is still a cracking device however!

The 520 is probably a little overpriced - it's a few generations old now, and while it's still a great phone, I'm surprised they've even got any around! It was replaced by the 530, which has half the storage capacity, and on screen buttons (as opposed to the hardware buttons of the 520) - some people prefer the 520, some prefer the 530, to be honest the internal space is really neither here nor there because you'll really have to stick a micro SD card in to make the most of the phone anyway if you're planning to do anything but the most basic of tasks on it (and if you're only doing basic tasks on it, 4 or 8gb makes no difference). I'd expect the 520 to be selling out at $15-20 myself due to the age of it (and the 530 regularly being on sale for $29).

    • I agree, for some reason when I posted this I thought it was the 532, yes doing too many things today, for the 520 at $30 it is not the best deal.

    • Is it definitely the 512MB version? That would kill it as a Windows 10 tester.

Officeworks have a Telstra 635 prepaid - advertised as 1GB RAM.

Officeworks description is wrong - I've purchased one from there, and returned it after powering it up, and finding out it's only the 512mb version.

There is a 512mb and a 1gb version of the phone - the (newer) unlocked versions tend to be the 1gb version.

Keep in mind Microsoft have said that Windows 10 will still work on 512mb devices, however you'll be better off with a 1gb device (and all new devices will be 1gb).

        • "Keep in mind Microsoft have said that Windows 10 will still work on 512mb devices"
I'm sure it will work ok, but I don't think it's fair to get a general impression of Windows 10 by testing it on bottom-scraping specs.

The 520 has a way better ips screen vs a crappy tft screen the 530 uses. The 530 gets a quad core SoC vs the dual core one in the 520, but the 520 has better gpu. Given the choice, I'd take the 520 any day irrespective of which model is older.

  • No 4GX for Lumia 635:

    2G network 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
    3G network 850/900/2100 MHz
    4G network 800/1800/2600 MHz

    I picked up this for essentially $19 for a 4gx phone. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/194839

The 635 has a 4.5 inch ips screen? Has to be a lot better than the horrible screen the 530/532 use. It's a pity it's 512mb model.

  • Does the 635 have free global maps and sat-nav licence, and not just Australia?

  • WIll check out Highpoint Kmart and Melton Kmart 2moro…

    Cheers.

  • Optus Y520 is a promotional deal not a clearance. $39 and it runs until the beginning of september ( i think). My local store got 10 units from DC and more expected. my local already sold all the stock we had. I suspect they will be very hard to find.

    • None of either 3 @ 2298 and 2305

  • there's also a 59 dollar LG L70 at Sunnybank Hills (optus) might be a promotional item too. Telstra Galaxy trend plus was at 79 if anyone interested. :)

    • LG L70 is promotional, no idea about the galaxy trend. L70 should finish same time as Y520.

  • Bought 2 of the 635 yesterday in kmart Ashfield. The price came down to $30 each.

    • Sweet, I was at Southland today and noticed they had the 520 for $20.

  • Pity these deals don't come around too often.
