I'm also eyeing on a laptop these days. I'm more biased towards rMBP and really can't decide which one (rMBP or UX303) to buy. any advice?

Hmm, simplest decision to make is to decide whether you want Apple OS or Windows 8.

      •

        Well really Windows 10.
Isn't there a significant price difference as well?

      •

pls see my EDIT ans below. thanks.

    •

      Windows 10 vs Apple iOS.
Better hardware vs inferior hardware in the Apple product that also costs more.

    •

EDIT: I have been using Windows (XP, Win7) for many years but recently I have switched to Ubuntu. I like the solid feel in macs but the base price of rMBPs really stretches my budget. Also if I'm gonna buy a mac I won't probably buy the AppleCare (which you have to spend more), so is the maintenance cost of macs high? in case if something gets defective.

No, Australian consumer law warranty covers you.

        •

you must be joking, wonder why people buy it then?

        •

@kiLbiL: Because it's less hassle than convincing random staff about ACL.

    •

Depends whether price is a major issue for you, i believe the UX303 is cheaper. With that said, ive used my rMBP for almost 5 years now, running like a beast still (although i did slab a SSD onto the machine). I personally think if you are going to be using it for strictly no gaming then go for the Mac.

Got the last one of these from DS Dandenong (bought Saturday just before midnight - picked up Monday). With fathers day coupon (-$85) it cost me $894 C&C.

It's great ultrabook (although it is slightly larger, thicker and heavier than my wife's 2-year old Samsung ATIV 9).
The good thing is that it is easily upgradeable. Eg, from 4GB -> 12GB RAM for $65 (MSY). You can also add mSATA SSD of your choice in addition to built in 2.5" SSD.
Was going to get UX-303LN (nVidia 840) from FutuOnline during the 20% off eBay sale (hence my just before midnight purchase time), but decided that for $222 less I could have this one instead (used spare change to buy Brother MFC-L2700DW.
UX-303LA has same processor but half a RAM (which is cheap anyway) and no nVidia (which doesn't bother me as it will actually increase battery life). This being destined to be my son's school laptop - so gaming not issue either - or "so you think dad", says my son ;).

This is a good deal if you can still find some stock. It's old gen 4 i5 model.

Smoky brown? where's the brown in the picture?

Might be worth waiting to see how the Skylake U cpus perform as they're set to be released in September as well as the new Surface Pro 4 which is rumored to be announced this month or in October.

  •
No significant performance difference between Skylake vs Broadwell, according to
First Core i7-6500U Skylake benchmarks leak online

I bet Skylake will be more power efficient. Let waits and sees.

This offer is available again with the codes HUGE50 for orders above $499, or HUGE 100 for orders above $999

PSA: DO NOT BUY EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM DSE - It's cheaper from ASUS directly, and if you need to exercise warranty DSE will just serve as middlemen anyway

DSE [Must buy with purchase or within 14 days - Source DSE facebook rep]
      1 year extended - $99
      2 year extended - $129

ASUS Warranty [Must create account to purchase + activate before your included 1 year runs out]
      1 year extension Local - $69
      1 year extension International - $99
      2 year extension Local - $99
      2 year extension International - $149

Found this out when looking up extended warranty options (for the UX303LB)
