Access More Netflix Movies and Shows + BBC iPlayer and Hulu Plus - $15 for 12 Months @ uFlix

1280
oeck

Edit: sorry everyone, didn't realise ozbargain expires the deal the day after it is set. We will keep the deal running through until Monday night (tonight).

Hi everyone,

This offer is for a 12 month subscription to uFlix for $15.

uFlix is a service that allows you to expand your Netflix content library using technology known as smartDNS. It also allows you to unblock Hulu and BBC iPlayer.

By masking your location and making you appear in a different country (region), Netflix will display different content depending on where you tell it you are. This is simply done by a click on your uFlix control panel.

How do I use my coupon?
Once you sign up for free, go to "subscription" in your control panel and type in "Oeck" in the coupon box and click save.

Deal Information:
After much discussion we have decided to run one last deal for uFlix. Later this year we are going to be changing the company name and expanding services we provide (Free VPN's, Paid VPN's, more channels, more devices, apps). OzBargain is a great community and we will run this deal one last time for the people who missed it last time. All uFlix customers will have free account upgrades with the release of uFlix v2 (which will change its name to Oeck).

Please note, you will only have until the 14th to make the payment. This deal can not be stacked on top of the two week free trial we offer.

I will be here to answer any questions you guys have and I look forward to speaking to all of you.

Thanks.

I have it working with a Samsung bluray player which you'd think would have a similar setup to their tv's. Works well.

  • Ah feeling bad cos youre plugging your wares on here but theres a Chrome extension that lets you do all this for free - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/unlimited-free-vpnā€¦

    • Beat me to it by a second!

      • Haha yeah I saw that I was thinking glad I got in first lol :D

      Hola can be dangerous.

As a free user, you are the product. And being the product means that when running hola you can be used as an exit node. That is to say, for example, someone can do illegal things on the internet using hola and you as the exit node, and it will look as though you did it from your computer.

      Thanks.

      • Oh ok didnt know about this. So by subscribing to a paid vpn you can avoid this?

        • +2

          Hi Lucky13,

Make sure your read the terms and conditions and privacy policy of the VPN you are subscribing to. If it looks okay to you, you should be alright.

          Thanks.

        • @uFlix: Oh ok thanks for letting me know about this :)

        • +2

          @Lucky13:

No problem. Privacy is something we take very seriously, and everyone must do what they can to protect it.

          Thanks.

Hola is not a good idea, check out adios-hola.org and http://adios-hola.org/advisory.txt for the technical details

  • -6

If you don't need the DNS support (for Chromecast, Smart TV's etc) check out Hola which is free.

    • +5

      It is also dangerous.

As a free user, you are the product. And being the product means that when running hola you can be used as an exit node. That is to say, for example, someone can do illegal things on the internet using hola and you as the exit node, and it will look as though you did it from your computer.

If you prefer hola, please make sure you get a paid subscription with them.

    • +2

Not only are you offering up your computer as an exit node to strangers, you're opening it up to a whole bunch of vulnerabilities in that plug-in. So not only will you be part of Hola's botnet but potentially some hacker/spammer's as well.

  • when I put the primary and secondary dns in my netgear n300 DNS address page i get an error message saying invalid.. because they are 11 digits not 12? anyone know what i do?

am i in the wrong section of my settings? https://i.gyazo.com/fb3efaf23705eeef4cd795476e7e4051.png

    • Hi endlless,

They should be the IP addresses from https://uflix.com.au/setup

      203.143.83.123
      108.61.169.104

If that does not work, try this.

      203.143.083.123
      108.061.169.104

If that does not work, please submit a support ticket.

      Thanks.

      • Thanks for the quick reply, I tried adding the 0's but it still didn't work. I'll fiddle around a bit then i'll submit a ticket :(

        • Hi endlless,

No problem. Tech support should be able to help.

          Thanks.

  • Holy hell. And here I thought I understood technology a bit.

Can someone with the time to kill and the desire to help do a step by step on how the hell to set this up. I have a Aus Netflix/Fetch/Apple TV setup an for the life of me I can't figure this out?!?

    • Hi Frood,

Detailed instructions can be found at https://uflix.com.au/setup

They provide images for setting up our service on most devices.

      Thanks.

    • +2

      Short version:
      - put in their DNS servers into your device
      - log into your portal (from your home LAN) and click button to update your region of choice (uses your WAN IP)
      - watch netflix from Canada, or whatever floats your boat
      - wait impatiently for an app to simplify changing regions!!

      • Thanks so much! I'm try soon.

    • how did you go bro?

      • ON my way home to test it out. I'll report back.

      • +1

Got it to work! Brilliant. Just need to set it up on the Apple TV next. Holy hell - US Netflix is HUGE!!!

Can I use this promo code to extend my subscription. When I login to my account, there is option to renew subscription every month but no option to get additional annual subscription?

    • +1

      Hi AshFon,

Please cancel your monthly subscription and then sign up with the yearly one.

      Thanks.

      • I don't have monthly subscription. Last time I had subscript for yearly subscription and its valid until 25 May 2016. It does not give me option to renew yearly subscription or cancel existing subscription.

        Active Subscription

        Expires: May 25, 2016 at 12:02 PM
        smartDNS 1 Year Access
Access to our smartDNS service for 12 months.

        • Oh sorry, I misunderstood that you said.

Sorry, no. You will not be able to use this promo to extend your current yearly subscription. However, since you are a uFlix customer, you will get access to a cheaper deal when Oeck is launched that will be exclusive to uFlix customers.

          Thanks.

        • @uFlix:
          Yay…..

        • @andy19363:

Don't worry. The deals for uFlix customers at the launch of Oeck will be great :)

  • Will this work on a Panasonic viera smart tv or will I need to change it at the router?
    Cheers!

    • Hi,

Try it. It should work, but since we don't have official support for Panasonic yet, we can't tell you it will. If you run into an issue, please submit a ticket.

      Thanks.

    • +1

We use on our 60" 2014 model (put in DNS manually on it) and is fine

  • So will this work like a VPN for shows that aren't on Netflix and I need to*rent them instead?

    • No. You need a VPN service for that, which Uflix (currently) is not.

    • Uhh, it will give you access to netflix library in other countries. USA, UK, Canada and Germany at the moment, through uflix.

    • Hi stumo,

No. smartDNS will not hide you. This is only an unblocker to access more content on Netflix, iPlayer and Hulu.

      Thanks.

  • I've been using https://tvunblock.com/ for the last 2 weeks without any problem and it's FREE. If anyone knows why I should not use it, please let me know as well :)

    • Site is blocked at work for me but free is probably the reason why you shouldn't ;) Similar to hola i guess?

      • I am not sure if they can route attacks through your DNS. They are pretty clear about living on donations on their website. I couldn't find any review (positive or negative) about their service

        • +1

For starters, they can send any traffic they like through their proxies. Also, they can log every DNS lookup you do and sell it to advertisers. I'm not saying they do any of that but there's a lot of trust involved with all of these services (paid ones included). But at least you won't be an exit node like the Hola service with that one.

        • @dazweeja: well, I've only set this up on a device exclusive for Netflix, so the only data I'm sending through it is for the app.

  • OP, would you be able to confirm that the freeVPN that you'll be offering is only accessible to those who sign up to this deal? Are you able to divulge a bit more info for now ie. speed, download limit, etc? completely understand if you can't though.

    • +1

      Hi blahoz,

The free vpn will come with all smartDNS subscriptions. All users, old and new will have this available to them. However, the current $2 per month / $20 per year pricing will go up for the smartDNS service as it will include a lot of extra features. This deal is basically your chance to get a discount price on our $20 per year pricing as it currently is.

The free VPN will have no download limits, but will have a speed cap. We will also have a Full VPN package that will have multiple VPN exit nodes and no speed caps.

      Thanks.

  • Why don't people just setup their own Netflix DNS server? Hulu can be tricky as you need to find IPs that aren't already blacklisted, but it is still doable. Grab a cheap VPS for $6 a year or something and save?

    • Wtf??
So, to save $9 a year, you have to frig around to try and find 'usable' IPs?
This, to me, is the very definition of a waste of time and effort.

      • Your own DNS server can be shared amongst 10 friends or however many people you want. So that's $6 for netflix, you won't have a problem there, which can be shared with however many people you want. I do see your point, however.

        • +2

But that only works for one Netflix region/Country.
You'd need a VPS in UK, Canada, etc to cover all the regions.

Then you have to setup BIND or whatever you're using for DNS (or were you hard coding routes from your modem to your VPS proxy?)

It's lots of fun & a good way to learn Linux/BIND/Squid/etc, but it's a lot of stuffing around for a newbie & you have to replicate it for every region you want to proxy too.

        • @supabrudda:

You could use BIND+Squid and enjoy the fun times, but this would only require DNSMasq+privoxy on the remote server which would take five minutes to configure. I agree that it's not worth the trouble though for a single region.

    • Mate, been there, done that. It is not a simple setup. Even for a seasonal linux admin person. VPS requires maintenance, especially if you are running a DNS service on it. Then to make it accept only your connection (or connection of your friends), manage the clients IP address changes, then you would need 1 VPS in each region…
Man, I think I spent half of the money by just responding to your post :-)
      Not worth it, trust me.
For $15 per year I don't even think of it. Logged in, tested, working fine for regions I need, now I will just hope those guys will not wind up before the end of the year.

      • We aren't going anywhere :D

      • Lol, such an interesting discussions here.

Obviously ozb been filled with brainiacs who has the knowledge, but apparently $15/year is more appealing (and time saving) for everyone…

As for me, I think it's better to stick with use*t as it's cheaper and I can get more stuff online.

True that you can't easily watch stuff on your game console (on which missus preference), only on htpc, but hey… It's cheaper…

        • And by all means - good for you. As I said I have done the same before. If you want to watch only US content and manage the IP changes on your own, it is all good. When I was doing it I could not find VPS for $6 per year. And it got hacked once. And then I spent so many hours just keeping it up to date, etc.
For a student, it is a great learning experience.

  • +1

Thanks. Much cheaper than the service I was using.

  • +2

+1 for billing in $A - unlike a similar Australian service that changed to $US /:

  • How does it go with HBO Now?

    • Hi darthhasbro,

Currently HBO Now is not officially supported. Oeck will have HBO Now as a supported channel.

      Thanks.

      • HBO have been very diligent in finding OS accounts and cancelling them, in part by identifying the DNS addresses used by service such as yourselves

        • That is true. We have developed a better way around the HBO guys, and that will be available with Oeck.

          Thanks.

  • Question please if I may, so do you have to change the dns on the router AND the device playing it? Or just the router? Or just the device? I'm a little confused here, just don't want to put other dns settings into the router if it affects network performance (ie non ISP dns settings)?

    • +1

      Hi dazzza,

If you change it in the router, all the devices will work with our DNS by default.
If you change it in the device directly, only that device will work with out DNS.

Our DNS servers are fast, so if you opt for router you will not notice a speed hit compared to your ISP's DNS servers.

      Thanks.

  • I am really bad with this IT things. Just need some help. I currently have a Netgear R7000 AC1900 router which i use to connect to my NBN (unlimited). IS there anywhere in the router setting which i can change in order to use the smartDNS that i read some ozbargainers commented here that they were using?

This is because i like to be able to access to BBC iPlayer straight from my WDTV which connects to my router. I am not intending to get NetFlix but will probably use Hola which I understand is free.

The uflix/oeck $15 deal is for 12 months without any bandwidth limitation, yes?

Please correct me on any assumptions i made above that is wrong.

    Thank you guys!

    • Hi,

You will be able to set our DNS directly in your WD player. There is no bandwidth limitation.

      Thanks.

  • +1

Oh wow, I read $15 and thought pfft not a deal. Then I saw this on the front page and wondered why people would pay $15 a month….

    Per year!!! Sign me up!

  • did the new anti-piracy warning system in Australia start at the start of this month or next?

because this could be handy to legitimately access a lot more content?

  • A VPN that makes it look like I'm in the UK?

    Oh, eck.

  • I am currently on a month by month subscription (not contract). Can I cancel my current one and get this deal.

    • Hi cgunawan,

Yes, you will be able to do that.

      Thanks.

  • +1

I have used Uflix with ps3, wd media player smart phones and even my smart TV. All worked without a problem.

    • Thanks for the feedback Rog1995! Glad to hear it :)

      Thanks.

  • Hi REP,

I already got account and subscription is end on March next year. When I get in to the subscription part on my account, it only got option of 1 month. Is there any way I can add another 12 months on my account and using this code "oeck". Thank you

    Boyd

    • Hi Boyd,

Unfortunately not. Your previous subscription was also once-off. However, since you are already an existing customer, once Oeck is launched you will get a deal once the service is running.

      Thanks.

      • Thank you for the quick reply.

        • You're welcome.

  • +4

Highly recommend these guys!! Great service and great price. I have been using them for the last 6 months and it's great.

    • Thank you very much deztini! We really appreciate the feedback and we are happy that you are a happy customer!

      Thanks.

  • Awesome service, easily set up and amazing array of new content, not available in Oz on Netflix. Signed up for the free trial and 10 minutes later signed for the 12 month deal. Thanks Ufix

    • Great to hear Bruce! Thank you very much!

      Thanks.

  • How does this compare to unblockus?

    • -2

      Thanks for the reply rep……

      • +2

Unblockus is a DNS+VPN service (so not really compariable), offers more sites & costs ~$au71/yr
uFLix is a DNS service which does Netflix + BBC iPlayer & costs $au15/yr

If you want VPN+DNS service then chose unblockus/Getflix/ibVPN,etc
If you want just a DNS service to switch Netflix regions & watch BBC iplayer, then uFlix is probably for you.

If you want a more advanced DNS service with much more websites/content the option to add your own proxy routes (awesome feature), then www.dns4me.net is pretty good for ~$25/yr.

        • Thanks for the info supabrudda. :)

  • works sweet on my fire tv. signed up for the deal, thanks op.

    • Glad to hear it! Thanks very much :)

  • +1

Sounds like good deal. My getflix subscription just ended too.

  • +2

Op one thing to add to your FAQ (which most services don't mention).
If you change your Netflix region (to say US) but are paying Netflix Australia, change it back to Australia if you're modifying your credit card, otherwise it will think you're in the US & start charging $us & rates.

    • Hi suprabrudda,

That is a good point. We will add it tonight.

      Thanks.

    • Supabrudda/Rep,

So you can subscribe to Netflix Australia. And use UFlix to access US content?

      Thanks

      • That's exactly right. If you sign up with uFlix first, and have uFlix set to say, USA, when you go to Netflix and sign up, it will think you are in the USA (this is for users who live in a country where Netflix is not available).

Switching the region to "Turn Off" will default back to Australian Netflix, and Netflix will bill you in $AU.

        Thanks.

        • To clarify, for us newbies.

If I order Netflix in Australia, that one subscription will allow me to access US, Canada and UK Netflix content? they know I've paid 'somewhere' so allow access to all?

Or, do I need to subscribe to all countries Netflix services?

          Thanks.

        • +1

          @HelpWanted:

Nope. You just need a Netflix subscription. So your current (Australian) subscription is fine. Just set up our service and enjoy other Netflix regions.

          Thanks.

      • Yep, a Netflix subscription gives you access to whatever Netflix content is available in the country you're in. ie.g. if you goto Canada, you get access to Netflix Canada content (Not Australian Netflix content).

What this service does is make Netflix think you're in whatever country you select via uFLix. e.g. you're in Oz, but want to wtch something that's only available in Netflix UK, then change you're uFlix region to UK, goto Netflix it'll think you're in the UK & you'll be able to watch you're show.

        Does that make sense?

Here's a site which lets you see what's available in each region
        https://flixsearch.io

        • Yeap makes sense.

          Thanks for that link!!!

  • Does using this service slow down my download speed?

    • Hi nfr,

      Not at all.

      Thanks.

  • OK sold. Just set it up inside my fetchtv box and the 5yo is very happy with all the new animal documentaries (having already watched the au ones over and over)
