People might want to take note that this has one normal USB port (type A), and the other is the newer type C (reversible) one.

But you can easily buy a cheap adaptor on ebay to convert this to a regular type A port.

Hmmm, I wouldn't give the Windows tablet to the kids unless they want a Windows tablet, simply because it's pretty much a laptop in a tablet form.
That's both advantage and disadvantage imo, because the Windows OS really feels clunky when you use it with just touchscreen compared to something that's built for touchscreen only (i.e. Android and iOS); many programs and even the OS itself still feels best with keyboard and a mouse (or a touchpad even). That said, a full fledged desktop OS in this form factor alone is a plus in my opinion.

Metro apps on Windows 10 is lacklustre at best, and the number of apps that would benefit Windows tablets from Windows Phone are not available on Windows tablets yet. I hate switching between devices, but as a tablet, Android tablet I own still does everything better in my opinion.

If the kids require something like a laptop that has a touchscreen and has a form factor of a tablet, I think this one probably is good. If not, ARM tablets would be better.

Just sharing my thoughts, I own both (well, an Android tablet and a Windows tablet).

    • It was more my kid wanted a windows laptop, and I wanted something portable and relatively inexpensive, as I imagine it will get worked over pretty good. My kid is 14 going on now and does a lot of writing - this is to support that as well as browsing and socialising - hopefully it will fit the bill. It should fit easily in the backpack and at $300 it won't be the end of the world when it dies from careless treatment (learned my lesson with the phones).

      • Yeah, if it is for something like that, it'd fit the bill alright. It's just that I've seen people complaining about why Windows tablet do not act like an ARM tablet, when the Windows tablets were not exactly made with those things in mind.

Bought one of these for my girlfriend to use for uni the last time it was this price. Great purchase.

    • Are you sure its the same model? This one seems to have come out pretty recently?

      • Ahh you are correct, I purchased this one, which makes this an even better deal.

is the screen resolution 1280 x 800 a bit on the low side ?
The Asus t100 similar type device screen resolution is 1366 X 768

Bit the bullet, I wanted something simple to have in the bedroom and for travel. This definitely looks to fit the bit.

    Thanks OP.
