I purchased this laptop brand new in Oct 2014 for $1300. I can highly recommend this laptop at this price point as it has a beefy i7 CPU and decent GPU. Battery time of 2.5hrs to 3 hrs is what I am currently getting. Happy overall. No laptop at a $700-$800 price point matches this laptop at the moment.

      No new laptop, you mean.

This is a second hand laptop.

      • +2

        Yes, my apologies.

      • +1

Tobishi + refurb sounds like trouble to me. A few brands are more prone to overheating and resulting a blown MB.

        • +1

You present a fair point in saying that refurbs sound like trouble.

To be honest, I've had 3 new Toshiba laptops before this one and they were trouble free really (still running now, parents use two of em). This laptop hasn't given me any trouble in the past year whether I'm doing light tasks or something a little more intense like games and Photoshop. Well, I guess time will tell how this laptop holds up. Hopefully it holds up well for anyone that purchases it.

        • -2

          This is Toshiba though.

Might just buy one more from this sale. Thanks OP for posting this.

    • cough affiliate cough
      Kidding, cheers OP

      • +2

hahaha nah man not affiliated in any way :)

          Do you swear?

@inose: Yes I swear by the Flying Spaghetti Monster God.

That's not a real God, you should be stoned.

Oh wait nvm, we're in Australia. K nvm

  • Is it a good laptop for gaming ? (I know not in high..)

    • it will be pretty decent id say mid to high

    • +3

      http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-R9-M265X.114535.0.ht…

Go down to the bottom to check the FPS benchmarks for a variety of games.
The right side also ranks video cards from most powerful to least powerful.

You will see that most of the games this laptop can handle will be around 720p (1366x768) on medium settings at an acceptable 40-50FPS.

        YOU'RE MISTAKEN SIR.
You will find that there is an avid gaming and technology community here on OzBargain. Just have a look at the 'Gaming' topic in the forums for example.

Although this site doesn't specialise in gaming, what's wrong with providing information to people who ask? Believe it or not, there are all kinds of people here who are into gaming AND bargain hunting. Sharing information is important to make informed purchasing decisions.

      • +1

Just so you'd know, there are a lot of adult gamers

    • +1

Yes, for something like Battlefield 4, I've been able to run it at medium settings, averaging FPS between 45-57. Furthermore, since the GPU is AMD and supports AMD Mantle API, games which use AMD Mantle API (eg Battlefield 4, Thief) tend to perform better.

I'm running Euro Truck Sim 2 on this laptop at custom settings which are somewhere between medium-high and it runs smooth.

  • +1

This one was cheaper and better for gaming

    ASUS R552JK-CN089H i7-4700HQ 1TB HDD 8GB RAM 4GB NVIDIA 850M FHD IPS BLURAY COMBO

    $769 with 20% off.

But there were only 2. They had 2 as well in the previous 20% off deal.

Anyways, I got a very similar (same model but has 4k touchscreen and bd rom) laptop for the missus. The M265X is more mid range for gaming @ FHD resos, sometimes even need to put it on low for decent frame rates.

  • Does any of these laptops support hdmi 2.0?

    • +11

      YES, solitaire works great.

      • idk about solitaire but minesweeper 1080p, 60fps+

        • No UHD? Disappointing. Wouldnt mind 3D too!

  • +1

Would this be enough to do very basic video editing with the GoPro software?

  • +1

Would this qualify for the free Win 10 upgrade?

    • +2

      Yes it would.

  • +3

    Criminal putting a 5400 hard drive in a i7

    • unfortunately, most new i7 lappies are still being released with spinners.

  • +4

Bought this laptop refurbished from oo a few months ago for about the same price. Looked brand new when I got it, not a mark on it. Have hardly used the Touchscreen but some people might find it useful. Even with the slow hard drive, it used to load up relatively quickly. However, I put a Samsung Evo SSD in about a month ago and now its like night and day. Boots up to the sign in screen in no more than 5 seconds. Waa eligible for Windows 10 update. Had never had never used Win 8.1 before this computer, so was glad of being able to go almost straight to windows 10. No problems with it yet, the only minor issue would be the placement of the optical drive which is in the front left and often gets a bit stuck in the chassis when opening. Easy to pop it open though. Overall, has been a good purchase so far.

  • +4

For $780. What more could you ask for? Yes it's refurbished to me that means it's been officially tested and good as new. I don't think you could build a computer with these specks for this price.

    • -1

You don't build a computer with a 5400rpm drive for OS.

    • I think so!. I bought one and glad I returned it.

      • Why didn't you like it?

  • No reference to how heavy this is.

  • +1

Purchased a Toshiba Satellite P50T-A0EE Laptop refurb from OO.com.au back in July. Like new and no problems whatsoever.

  • Would this be able to play 4k video?

    • It has HDMI (4k2k)output

  • Umm isnt it like 2 gen old.. I wonder where they dig these up from.

    • +1

6th gen CPUs aren't much faster. Just lower power usage.

      • 2 gen old dedicated graphics and onboard is the other problem

        • +1

the gpu is only 1 gen behind, but in actual fact the newest gen replacement M370X is the exact same gpu as the previous gen M265X but with slightly higher clocks, so your not missing out on any new tech with this model, you are still getting a mid-range gpu as the model name denotes, similar to nvidia 940m in performance.

        • +1

@TRANCE: and you can slightly over lock the r9 m265x. I've done it for a short period of time but the gains aren't overwhelming. And overclocking these gpu's can lead to fried gpu's and mobos.

        • @FaultyMango: edit: overclock instead of over lock.

    • +1

yep two gens old and still samey performance, 5th gen was mainly just a tiny clock bump and a waste of a gen, and latest 6th gen is mainly lower power consumption, so performance wise your not missing out on anything much with a i7 4th gen, maybe 5%, wouldn't be noticeable in use.

  • Get this or wait something better?

    • Get a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 2 in 1 for ~$950

      • Graphics card is really weak though.

  • Can this be downgraded to W7?

    • not legally

    • Why? Windows 10 is better than Windows 7.

  • I dont really trust toshiba i had an i7 with bluray player/cdburner a few years back and the motherboard and hdd were both replaced just inside warranty period. Then house was broken into and it got stolen. Lucky insurance covered it.

  • Wouldn't buy just because of 5400 HDD, replaced the 1TB HDD with an old 128gb SSD in my machine and the speed difference in everything (not just boot time) is phenomenal.

  • Only 4 laptops remaining.

  • Will never buy another Toshiba for me. Purchased one for $1,500 only to find that the speakers were shit. Had to buy portable speakers to watch movies. Then HDD played up and it does not load Windows 7 properly. I was "lucky" enough that it let me image it into a new HDD. Now it overheats and shuts down when I play a game of LOL.

  • +1

I've been back and forth about buying this because of the slower hdd, but I just snapped up the last one. Decent deal, thanks!

    • same like me. i find this deal even before OP post it. the only thing you have to do is replace the hdd with a ssd. but seems like toshiba is not easy like dell, i mean it;s easy to replace it, but get it work properly may not. some people report issue with that. plus lost the warranty. finally i brought that dell 15 7000 2 in 1. though cpu and gpu are much weaker, but i do not really have time to play games and i do not do heavy editing.

  • Trying to get the tax refund scheme but OO.com.au keeps insisting there is no problem when i point that the receipt does not contain my passport name. It's only addressed to my passport name. Downvoting until it gets sorted.

    • Do you mean "It's only addressed to my PayPal name"?

      • Yes sorry, corrected. OO hasn't been very responsive.. sent 3 messages and made a call. No resolution yet

        • TRS requires no name below $1,000. But IF there is a person's name for a tax invoice below $1,000, it MUST be that of the traveler. I expect they will just ignore a PayPal address. Is there a name on the invoice which isn't yours?

        • @Make it so:

It's just an online receipt. There is no original receipt. So tehcnically i can just change it in word and print it.

This is obviously not $800 however i want to add a $300 phone i bought too.

so $1100. Guess they require name for both? Or just whatever item pushes it over $1000?

        • @joeno: only for individual receipts exceeding $1,000, as far as I know.

  • +1

I ended up buying one. Thanks OP!

  • Do you need to REPLACE the internal hard drive or can you simply add an SSD on top of it?

Want to know as don't want to waste the HDD.

Also do you recommend getting a SSD if it voids warranty?
