    Good price on the S5 … need a new phone but coming from an iPhone 5S (and loved the polished "works out of the box" concept). I hated the Galaxy S3 which was crashing on me constantly … but the S5 gets good comments. Ah … more decisions …

It is currently being reviewed by our online team." e-mail around midday, then shortly after 5PM another e-mail saying "Thanks for your order…Your tax invoice will be emailed separately."     Here's hoping I can collect the phone tomorrow!
    Note: only the black and white models were available when I placed my order.
    $322 after Amex offer and HN sign up seems very reasonable.

    That nexus 5x for 150 more than the s5 is a much better phone and actually runs android not Samsung's horrible butchered buggy OS. Unlike the s6 u can flash a s5 to cyanogen or something so its still pretty good, but just something to consider if you can afford it.

      I'd say the S5 is decent for average people looking for a good but affordable phone. For those who can afford more, the 5X is better software-wise, but I personally don't think there's a $150 difference there in the hardware.

        The software of course makes a huge difference to the running of the phone. I don't think people who have only ever had non-pure android phones realise how much better pure android is.

        You'll also get os updates and security updates for two years with the 5x, as soon as they become available as the OS is made for that phone. On the other side of the fence - you will probably never see another update on the Samsung s5.

          Don't think many people really care about software updates. lol.
          I work in IT and actually quite tech savvy, but I like non-pure android more than pure android. There are just those small little things that they add which makes it quite good.

          Samsung is getting ALOT better with their TouchWiz though, they are starting to debloat their Launcher, which is slowly resembling more Vanilla.
          LG is still pretty bloated though, it feels like what TouchWiz was before they started to debloat it.

          If you REALLY hate non-pure android, then just install another launcher on top, which will pretty much convert it to pure android. Nova Launcher is very close to Vanilla.

          If you have a nexus and then use a galaxy s6, you would not be saying touchwiz is a lot better, its not just the ui or launchers, the phone is so much slower and buggier, because even if you put better hardware in a phone, if the OS isnt made for it, it just doesn't work as well. Being tech savvy you should know this. Samsung are not a software developer and it shows, so badly.

          The speed of normal tasks with marshmallow on a nexus 5x, let alone 6p makes the galaxy 6 feel like a phone from 3 years ago. Let alone all the buggy stuff ups the s6 has, that just don't happen on the nexus phones.

          Also there is nothing that the galaxy's come with software wise that a third party app isnt available for that doesn't do better.

          If anyone reading this has only ever had Samsung android phones, you should really consider a nexus. Despite common sheep beliefs, they are far from the pinnacle of android phones.

          @RI4V4N: Each to their own i guess. lol. Its like some people who swear by IOS then some who swear by Vanilla.
          I think the thing with Samsung and HTC is that they are trying to bridge the gap with their "out of box experience", which Apple does VERY good with their IOS. Thats why Nexus isn't as popular as all the other Android Phones.

          If Google wants to overtake iPhones and other Android Phones in the market, then they will need to rethink their "design a phone for tinkerers".

          Yes plenty of features can be added through third party, but most people just want it to be there (even if they will NEVER use it LOL!).

          Google doesn't want their phones to overtake others because that isnt the purpose of a nexus. They use it more as an advertisement to try to make the other companies do a better job.

          Apple does iphones well both software and hardware wise because they are a company that has always done both, Samsung and HTC are not in the software business.

          Also I don't think plain android is as barebones as you think. I can't think of any software that comes installed on the s6 that doesn't have a normal version on marshmallow.

          He didn't say Touchwiz is better than stock, he said it is getting better compared to previous versions. Which I would agree with. I have a Nexus and yes, I would agree that Touchwiz is a bit laggier in general (which isn't to say the Nexus' are immune to lag, because they really aren't). But it's not the devil half the internet makes it out to be, and enthusiasts often forget that the other 98% of consumers don't care about the same things they do.

          Also there is nothing that the galaxy's come with software wise that a third party app isnt available for that doesn't do better.

          Multiwindow.
          Sidesync.
          Theming support.
          Galaxy Gear support.
          Better camera software.
          Galaxy Note stylus features.
          Samsung Pay, though it isn't available here.

          And let's not even forget that before Jellybean when stock Android got pretty, Touchwiz not only looked better, but was more functional. They had notification quick toggles first and a whole heap of other features. So stock isn't the be all, end all, and variety is good for all of us.

          I don't even have a bloody Galaxy, I just get sick of people evangelising stock Android like it's the only version of Android worth having. Because it isn't, and most consumers don't care about the same things you do. Just because you might be more informed than some, doesn't mean your opinion is objectively correct. So please dismount the high horse.

        Because Nova is just a launcher. The phone is still filled with buggy Samsung stuff.

        You could fix this with a total root, but it doesn't look like plain android or cyanogen are available due to Samsung's unsupported new processors that nobody else is using.

    I had a play with my friend's S5 and found the camera lags quite badly when trying to review a photo. Also photos don't auto rotate to the correct orientation when you have portrait and landscape shots in successive order. Found this strange for a flagship phone. I have previously owned S3 which had the same issues, but I thought they would be fixed by now.

        Haven't had this issue on my S6.
        Are you sure that its not some other app that he installed which is causing the lag?

        I noticed some laggy parts but when i did a factory reset it stops lagging, then I narrowed down which app was causing the lag.

I paid it via PayPal and I still didn't get the 'ready to collect' email from them, though my local store (the one I chose to pick from) had my order in stock, plus it's open today until 5pm. They sent me the confirmation email yesterday but that's it since then.

          He advised they'll be fulfilling their on-line orders tomorrow.

          Obviously it varies from store to store depending on how big and busy they are.

          Stores were unusually busier today if you compare with the same day in the last few years.. Does it indicate a positive consumer sentiment may be due to a better job market? Of course population must have increased due to the ongoing immigration but it alone doesn't justify the rush that I witnessed today.

        Yeh they have heaps of bins of covers for various phones and tablets for 1 to 2 dollars. I picked up an sview cover for my note3 for $1 as well. Much better quality than anythin on ebay. Pity Samsung doesn't support 3rd party accessories anymore for sview

    Tried to price match one I bought a couple of days ago, but couldn't as price is now higher than I paid urgh…

    Just letting you guys know i cancelled the first order after it said pickup was available because the amex didn't go through (needed to do amex link BEFORE s5 purchase). I decided to order another for delivery because its only $5.95. They called today and my SO said i had to wait until mid January for the black or they could send a gold one straight away… but they didnt allow her to choose. They needed me to confirm the colour.

        Most of those were silicon cases (soft ones) and not the hard ones. Silicon cases can't protect the phones much if you drop and they are cheap anyway.
