      • Paid by credit card? Call your bank?

        • If you paid by credit card or paypal, there's no problem at all. Just contact them and they'll do a charge-back, you get a refund.

For online orders, your payment options are… wait for it… credit card or paypal.

          This is a non-issue.

damn it, Can we hold onto pay day and ill chuck in a dish cloth full of 3 day old stank water and a possible live gold fish, Staying firm on $30 however.

        • My awesome collection of beanie babies should be enough to buy all the stores out.

        • @Clear: Damn it you Win, Good luck! hope you can turn the business around. Possibly turn it into a beanie babies store, Ill come in and swap my goldfish for one

      • I hope you didn't eat the other half packet while on the toilet (or do Aldi recommend that?).

  • Does anyone's local Dick Smith still have Xbox One games in stock and for cheap? Can't seem to find anything on their website or locally. I had a feeling they stopped selling games but I wanted to check before I went out of the area looking for bargains.

    • If they haven't sold out of games prior to Christmas then they should still be available, my local store had some for $20 each on sale

When do we expect the next round of discounts to hit? Weekly? Fortnightly? When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie?

    • When Dick feels like coming with better discounts.

    • +14

The next round of discounts starts today and only applies to some accessories.
Discount has increased from 30% to 50%. Check for red dots on tickets in stores.

      • Thanks for posting Pielo.

      • +3

Yea thx Pielo, and will appreciate any info you can post for us bargainers to get in before the rabble non-ozbargainers.

        • +ve for thanks, but man let us know when its 50% or more off big ticket (recent) stock.

      • thanks for the update

one item that i've got my eye on is discounted 20% according to the website, but it also mentions that "Offer ends 11-Mar-2016". What happens after 11 March? More discounts presumably? Gets sent to Grays Online?

        • +1

I would be going with your first guess.

We will soon know for sure.

        • +1

I wouldn't think they would sell in bulk to Grays until it/if reaches 80-90%. Also I wouldn't risk buying from them online (they have a history of cancelling orders if demand floods their system)

Salvage value once transfers to Grays are made would probably be around 10-15% of retail price averaged across all units (so of the remaining stock Dick would only get back an estimated 30% of what they paid their supplier for inventory). Obviously Grays will want to mantain a margin (after they have additional costs of reselling) and stock that hasn't already cleared with 20-50% discounts would need to be discounted further to meet the market so they wouldn't touch it if they risked wasting time and losing money or selling to have peanuts by the end.

The liquidators still have over a month to go, in an ideal world we would turn away from these so-called 'bargains' as a collective until they reach rock bottom prices. As it is prices are still inflated but when they come down and you want to buy I would only buy in-store the next day (price drops are usually updated outside business hours, not always though)

  • still shit expensive especially it's only 20% off..

  • Sonos stuff is 20% off (if you can find any) thats not to bad

      The usual exclusions apply.

    • Just a a bunch of cables and cases. Don't believe the hype. I'm waiting until it's 50% storewide (even if that takes another three weeks).

  • Has anyone had any issues calling dicksmith stores ?

I am after a product that they said was available last Sunday, went there and it wasn't so now I don't trust their online stock levels. Now that one says no stock but another similar one says 'in stock'

It is also really concerning they will let you click and collect on something that wasn't in stock.

    • always the way with them , never trust em you'd basically have to check each store useless i know but aside from the last 50% off or what ever it is i wont be shopping there.

    • +1

I think it should be pinned to the start of the thread DO NOT click & collect. I went into my local store today where they had the low specced HP spectre reduced from 1699 to about 1350. I only have a 1000 to spend so asked if when (if) they discounted again to 1000-1100 (only display models left I think so high chance they will still be there in a few weeks). He advised me under no circumstances click and collect because 1) The system might not update automatically on stock levels and the computers might not be there to purchase meaning I would be an unsecured creditor if I paid my money online. 2) Even if the stock does exist at the time of order if it is a price drop overnight at the time I click & collect it is processed sometime the next day. So if there is a price drop I might have paid for it the night before but people could come in the morning buy the computer and there could be none left by the time my click and collect order is processed that day and the stock reserved. He advised me the only thing I should do was keep in the loop about coming reductions and if it is further reduced physically come into the store showing there is stock left ASAP (there would be a "significant risk" of your order not being fufilled). I also queried if I called up the store and quoted my click and collect order in the morning could they reserve my computer, but he told me 1) during mornings of discounts "we are so busy and most of the time we cannot answer (our staff is stretched enough as it is)" and 2) click and collect orders will probably not be updated on their end so even if I manually quoted an order reference number it would be difficult for them to reserve stock, only way I could do it would be a bring a print out of order confirmation in store the morning of the discounts but then he said other people might get in before you and even with the order confirmation in hand the computer might be gone.

TL;DR do not click and collect under any circumstances, even with chargebacks possible it is a pain in the neck and he told me it would be pointless given stock would most likely be gone by 10-11am the following day (before click and collect orders from the night before are processed). Maybe Dick doesn't want people to know this but it should be a PSA.

      • +2

Nek minute, DSE business model trumps casinos

        • +2

Do not click, do not collect and certainly don't go in store. That should be pinned :P

  • long time lurker, prolly my 2nd or 3rd time post.

their slogan at one point was "talk to the tecxperts'. it was talk to a bunch of (profanity) for me:

As a long time DSE customer up until early 2015, it was a good place to shop until these stupid exclusions became more and more regular and the specials became worse and worse. The customer service also became worse and worse over time. The final straw for me occurred at the box hill centro store in Melbourne in 2014 - bascially the attitude from the staff when i had asked a question regarding ipad cases, was pretty much "you're a fuc*ing idiot for asking that question".

As a customer it was highly unexpected. maybe the staff were on their last day or someone was getting high from smoking some crap. whatever.

from that point on - i have not made a purchase from DSE unless if something was super super super cheap.

the so called "specials" are more expensive than some full price items at other retailers. the 2TB portable hard disk is a good example, they were selling for $149 whereas JB had them for $117.

I have no sympathy for DSE.

    Rant over.

    • Thank you very much for this. I feel this should be made a sticky on the first page

  • +1

Anyone found any specials?. Initial % off were not appealing at all…

    • Have been seeing some nice prices, mainly on smaller items. Specifically small items, which aim at the higher end market. Though at the same time, a lot of these nice prices have been going out of stock quickly too.

So you really need to know what you're after. Not knowing what you're looking for, and waiting for the price to justify itself, will normally be sold out by that point.

E.g. Saw Plantronics Voyager Legend Headsets going to 69 (normally 90-130). Which is not crazy price for "what they are", but nonetheless attractive prices if you previously had an eye on this.

  • Well, I just bought some eneloops, which I now might regret buying. Paid by CC as Paypal wasn't working (that should have been a warning sign itself), for C&C. If the store has no stock, have I lost all of my money?

"If your items are unavailable, our customer service team will endeavour to contact you as we may need to cancel your order. Please see our Terms and Conditions for further information."

      https://www.dicksmith.com.au/our-services/click-and-collect

Basically push as hard as you can to get a stock transfer to the store but if the item cannot be restocked instore then your order will be cancelled. Since you have prepaid for your order that money has now gone to Dick Smith Group liquidation team and good luck getting that back (sorry to say). Only way would with chargeback protection (if you paid by card) contact your bank ASAP and notify them of the situation. I think C&C would fall under "Deposits placed on an item".

      http://asic.gov.au/about-asic/media-centre/key-matters/dick-…

      "Deposits placed on an item

If you can’t get a refund on a deposit you have placed on an item, you can register with the voluntary administrators as an unsecured creditor of Dick Smith.

If you paid a deposit with a credit card or eligible debit card, you may have chargeback rights. You should contact your card issuer straight away as there are conditions and time limits on making a chargeback claim.

See Ferrier Hodgson’s Customer FAQs for futher information."

      Dirty Dick and Filthy Ferrier!

      • +2

Thank you, that gives a bit of peace of mind. Have chargeback protection so am able to take that route if needed.

        • +4

Given the situation the liquidators should be ordered to not accept online orders for store stock (that may not be fulfilled). Click and collect and online sales are basically a money pot if the liquidators are unable to fulfill orders (in stores showing stock) or if there are disputes with TOLL or other logistics companies and orders are not shipped (which happened to a lot of orders back in December/January where there was confusion onto what was happening with McGrath Nicol/Ferrier/Dick Smith). I'm sure transport contractors didn't want to add there names to the list of creditors if they weren't sure they were going to be paid - eventually most of it was just delayed but there were reports of missing shipments and order cancellations. Orders are still being shipped out (otherwise there would be an even greater uproar; the liquidators aren't just running a scam) but there is a level of risk potential customers should be aware of.

    • +3

Dude with all the warning posts about C&C why the hell did you do it? Congrats you can cross off unsecured creditor from your bucket list.

      • I was oblivious to the warnings about C&C until I'd placed my order. Just got to hope everything goes well now :/

        • It's FINE.

People are panicking for no reason. Even IF the receivers didn't have a refund policy, which they do.

You paid with a credit card. If they don't have your product just call your bank and you'll get every penny back.

Seriously, worst case you lose five minutes of your time.

          PayPal works the same.

          It's fine.

    • +2

No your money is not lost.

If the item is out of stock at the selected store, they will issue a refund. All employees will have the same instructions: http://imgur.com/lb0zS8G

What juzz0 is describing is for customers who have done a customer order in-store on an item that was not in stock at the time of purchase, and who have made a deposit (10% or more of the value of the item).

      • I just had a chat to another worker and the 'unsecured creditor' line was for C&C orders pre-liquidation apparently the liquidators supervising online operations are liable for refunds on unfulfilled orders now and C&C orders are no longer just a game of Russian roulette. I would still have major reservations on ordering price dropped items online; for if TVs (for instance) go down from 30 to 50% there would be a spike in demand and since stock is being liquidated at those prices, stock may be unavailable (when the website displays it is still available) and your order cancelled.

If you go in store you have the peace of mind knowing that you have the product you paid for (without fear of order cancellation and who knows how long to wait for a refund). Some staff are just as confused as the customers on what is happening! Feel a bit for the man who created it all (but I guess he got his fair share of $$$ from the venture).

I ordered a product on the 9th of December (it was available to order online but they must not have stock of my order) and received a PayPal refund a month later (luckily) others haven't been so lucky. I was kicking myself because if I visited a store I could have paid and picked it up (stores were showing it as "available" apparently).

The refund will go to your PayPal account."

        • +1

You are right about price drop. That being said, if you are unable to go to your closest store the morning the prices drop, chances are there wont be any stock left by the time you get there.

If done correctly (and its the manager's duty in the morning) click&collect and online orders must be fulfilled by the time they open the store.

But I agree shopping in-store will be the best and safest option.

        • @Pielo: I can get there early for the drop so won't risk ordering it C&C. Waiting for a refund will be a headache if stock is out and although staff should do it before open many will probably be processed in the first few hours of trade the next day (meaning if there is people rushing in store C&C stock will be out). I will continue to wait and hope for some major 50-60%+ drops In the next few weeks.

  • +2

No week 3 rumours? this sale is going slowly…

    • Supposedly the emails get sent round sometime between close of business Wednesday (WA) and start of business Thursday (NZ).

So give it till tomorrow morning. Although last week was disappointing to say the least.

      • Do you know whether the new pricing will be updated on the website automatically? Or does it take a day to put up?

Do the emails give a day's notice, or are they sent along with new pricing updates on the system (so if the emails are sent out on Thursday morning the new sales are from Thursday, or are they from Friday)?

        • Today's ad in The Dominion Post (NZ paper) says 20-60% off. Doesn't specify what the 60% off is on though.

        • +2

@neil: They sure are hanging on to the 20% off tag :(
I suspect the 60% off will be a continuation of the current 50% discounts. And perhaps everything else will have a slight bump e.g 20% -> 30% / 30% -> 40% etc. Hope I'm wrong, and we get surprised :)

We'll just have to pray that there's not as much hype atm, and no one takes the good stuff!

        • @Giteau:

The 60% off is just off eneloops by the look of things. These batteries were selling at 30% discount to this "60% off" during multiple times in the last 12 months (eg. Tropical 8 pack selling for 14.98 mid last year is at 60% off now at 21.98).

Not much of a bargain and definitely not the rock bottom prices yet that you would expect from a liquidation. No shift on the 20% bottom line on most items (which are still priced at the money or at a slight premium relative to competitors).

  • i think even at 60% off some of this stuff would fail to impress.

    • I think most of the stuff at 75% off still doesn't make me bite. Was in a store today, so much of their stuff is way overpriced.

      • +4

        80-100% then I'll have a look

      • Yeah still a huge 20% off main items.

        • +1

Which they had every second day anyway before receivership, with their endless spammy emails.

        • @PainToad:
Just check still heaps of 20% so don't bother today =_=

  • +3

Went through the bourke street store yesterday. Lots of people, no decent bargains. Best part was the choice of in store music playing - Bee Gees Staying Alive. New theme tune?

  • I'm just wondering whether any better bargains will show up on any of Huawei or Oppo phones…

  • +1

Went to the Highpoint store last night, nothing particurarly special. Its really irritating having to ask someone to check every item you're curious about, because if you're like me, you're just going in for a quick impulse buy (like your 30th pair of headphones or a drone you'll use once).

And as usual, a number of the interesting products were more expensive than their JB Hifi equivalent.

  • +1

I had a bit of a mix up at the MOVE store today. I went there at 1:30pm and there were A LOT of people milling about (mainly the Bose products). As already mentioned I am after a HP Spectre and they had one on display. However it was still over a $1000 (for a 1.1 GHZ M5 processor and 128GB of Hard drive space). They dropped the price of the display model to $850, I was willing to pay that price but I wanted the box. The manager told me to come back later in the day when it wasn't busy and that she would look for the box. I came back at 6:30pm but was then told stock had been transferred to Dick Smith and that the price there now was around $1350 (20% off special). I could have bought it at 1:30pm for $850 but I wanted the box and because of that the computer was transferred and now unless I want to pay an extra 30% for it I can't have it, frustrating in the extreme. Hopefully I can sought out something with the manager who told me to come back later on when I go there tomorrow. Otherwise I'm not buying it (and it will probably sit there for another month).

They also had an HP Envy on display (FHD 13.3" original price $1499) but considering you can get the QHD for slightly more ($1100 vs 900) brand new it wasn't a deal: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=11873… even at $750 (when they reduced by a further $150) there was no power cord for it and for an i5 non-touch, non tablet screen lightweight display model it still wasn't worth it (in my eyes).

My advice to everyone is wait until they drop prices to at least 40-50% as most stock is way overpriced (even if it looks like a good deal it most likely isn't).

    • Problem is no one knows when discounts will further increase, and by then there may be little too no stock :S

      • +2

Well if there's no stock there's no stock. Fools may rush in but if price points are better elsewhere or stock may be soon old tech then there's no good reason to pay anywhere near original Dick pricing. For instance Apple Mac Book Pros are going to have this year's range coming out soon, NVIDIA are releasing Pascal graphics cards soon which we be able to handle VR much better than the current GTX series. So there's no point in spending thousands of dollars on a laptop which will soon be old hat with diminished value. Only reason I will pull the trigger if there is 50% or more discounted on product which might take another month to happen. If fools want to buy before then let them.

I'm not going to lose sleep because there are much better deals posted on OzBargain on a daily basis than 20 or even 40% off Dick. Especially if you are thinking about purchasing a TV or any generic branded product which you will have no warranty for. If you are thinking of a PC there are many better prices out there, also think about how much a barebones unit would cost to construct. There is a desktop listed at over 3000 but you would be able to source components for that and build with MSY for hundreds of dollars less. People buying into these current offers are sad and clearly not informed. It's frustrating for us who know there is the possibility of further reductions down the line.

I showed some people browsing a low spec Asus model that they could buy one with double the RAM and a better processor for the same price online, they walked off shaking their head, but many people aren't into tech and just need a computer or TV thinking "sales = good value" will be duped into thinking these are good deals. As many have mentioned these 20% offers were weekly and a dime a dozen during their normal operations and nobody cared. The only reason people are heading into stores en masse is due to the media coverage of the liquidation and the expectation of fire sale prices when there clearly isn't.

Hillco or Ferrier or whoever is in charge of the liquidation is surely incurring additional expenses by keeping staff on an extra eight weeks and stores open that long but maybe there are long term tenancy contracts that couldn't just be torn up (even though you think they would because the Dick Smith Group in liquidation is a new entity with different obligations). Others have commented on here that this very slow graduated sale timeline is common for some liquidations but other liquidations (even with 300 + stores) have taken half as long. It seems these liquidators are banking on a lot of word of mouth and ignorant members of the public to gradually come in and pay standard market prices for the stock over the next five-six weeks. I still reckon there will be deeply discounted stock by the end but if there isn't what me worry? I have my trigger point that I've settled on and Dick isn't half way there.

And if you are chomping at the bit to purchase something because it will be the last time you will be able to get Dicked just look at the frequency of tech deals on OzBargain on a weekly basis, many deals at the same price point or less for better TVs, phones, computers etc. even if you have to buy from Futu or Shopping Express or gulp Kogan. The MOVE situation today was frustrating because the game changed up on me. I was lead to believe by the manager that the computer, if unsold, would still be there and not transferred out that day.

already changed me email to junk one so lol wouldn't of got it …………………..

  • No changes for this Thursday?

    • There's now some 70% off deals today.

And i'm looking at the 40, 60, 70% off deals online and it's all saying offer ends 23 March 2016. So i'd say there must be going to be another change coming next Thursday too.

      • I'm looking at the 20% deals and they haven't shifted in the last month.

      • Yeh it's pretty much the phone cases and all that rubbish that's gone up in discount. The rest really hasn't changed much.

And I can't believe how much stuff has disappeared already, despite the ridiculous prices. I guess I'll wait another 2-3 weeks.

  • Perthnow has someone from OZB In their story
“Even with Dick’s demise they still can’t get a decent sale going,” wrote one poster on the OzBargain forum.

Another amazing deal by dick smith, charging normal retail price..
    https://imgur.com/a/u2Cpt

    • so out of curiosity did you ask what the item scanned at?

obviously put the discount and price in wrong sections.

      • yeah scanned at 129.00, i wouldnt of posted stupid crap if it wasnt true.

    • LOL that's funny. Price ticket says was $122.55, after discounts taken you pay $129. Unless they've written the price ticket the wrong way around then i think some one at the store must be having a joke. That's not a discount it's a price increase as if they've taken away any discounts. Do they think that customers are totally stupid?.

  • You can no longer buy online as of today. Also they have removed everyone's account access (hope everyone changed their details prior).

Standard discounts gone to 30% off. Good time to start "buying in" :P

    • Good time to start buying in? I think in another 3-4 weeks we will finally see liquidation sale worthy discounts unless people are suckered in beforehand

      • That is true however by then I would suspect it would be only crappy accessories (that they would have to literally give away) left.

If you actually need something now (or even the last week at 25% off) is a good time to buy in.

        • I'm looking at computers and a few of them would need to come down at least another 20% to beat Harvey Norman prices. They are also still 20% off so I don't know where a base 30% comes into play. I've already outlimed my views on this in previous posts on this thread (about waiting and having your own trigger point irregardless of headline 'discount' percentages are offered). The %s are being marked off RRPs that are well beyond prices offered in the market at the moment.
