The email to opt-out of your details being transferred to Kogan HQ said it was until 22nd, but I just checked the website link, and it now says 29th, are they really going to destroy our data, or is this just to get more details?!

I just cant believe that they still have the sign up function on their page, still stealing peoples details, why the hell haven't they removed the sign up option? Bloody shifty shady bastards.

Also, to whoever thought changing their account details was a smart move, whats the use, I changed my email address a long time ago, but then got the Kogan email to my old email address that I had deleted!

Plus, all the order/purchase history cannot be deleted, and it has all your details, including any old email addresses……..Bloody shifty shady bastards

  • Merged from List of Dick Smith Stores to Close by The 18th of April (AUS/NZ)

I will link a screenshot from an email sent by Ferrier Hodgson listing the which stores will be closing early and on what date.

I'm new here so I'm not 100% sure on the rules regarding posting imgur links but I wanted to post asap to give everyone In these areas a heads up.

This email was sent out at 4:00 pm today the 30/3/2016

thank you OP. Noted. Looks like funeral notice.

    • It's forecasting next months executions…

The latest news is all stores will be closed by April 30.

Some will close early, many on April 19. See this photo: http://imgur.com/uIyDDL4 (courtesy of /u/gabe)

Thankyou! Any news on what will happen to residual unopened branded stock? Will they be cleared at retail level (e.g Apple going at possibly 25-30% off). Will it vary by area manager?

      • +1

Hilco are managing the markdowns for everything so the staff get no say.

I'd be very surprised to see Apple with that kind of discount. Currently Macs are at 10% and iDevices at 5%, I'd expect they may raise iDevices to 10% and maybe if we're desperate Macs to 15% but I expect they'll go out the door before we get to 25-30%. There are plenty of people still picking at the carcass who have itchier trigger fingers.

        • +2

"There are plenty of people still picking at the carcass who have itchier trigger fingers"

Couldn't put it better myself! Not that desperate to be spending hundreds/thousands to save $50-100, other people have different trigger points.

        • @juzz0: Yep. I'm waiting on news about their $18M of TVs. If I can get one up for a song (55" FullHD LED for about $200) I'll take the risk of lack of warranty.

        • It felt like every 2nd week DSE offered Apple products at 10%. A staff member at a Move store said they would give 10% off Apple if you asked for it.. had a good chat with a staff member there just before liquidation sale started.

        • @SirFlibbled:

Unfortunatly, this wont happen. Hilco told us TV will see a maximum discount of 25% during the final week.
They are holding on the 20% until the last moment.

They clearly said "30% of TV will not happen".

        • +4

@Pielo: Good luck to them off loading the crap load of containers of DSE labelled merchandise at that price then. I'll pick it up off Catch of the Day when they inevitably sell the lot to them for less.

        • @SirFlibbled:

Saddest thing is most of those TV have already sold.
We received a few dozens and only got like 8 of them left.

        • @Pielo:

That's sad. You could get brand name TVs at 20% off discounts every few months through eBay deal coupons which certain major retailers participate in.

e.g. 20% off Tech deals eBay coupon from last month. The Good Guys, Betta Online, Bing Lee and Sony were participating.

          @Pielo:

I guess some of those people may be regretting that decision when 7 or 8 months down the track their DSE TVs break down and become useless pieces of junk since there would be no warranty.

        • @hollykryten:

12 months warranty with the receivers (refund).
Contact details can be found on the receipt or by typing "dicksmith warranty" in google and clicking the gov website.

  • wow…this is the first I see so many comments in one thread.
Just show how much people love Dick S.

Kogan may start to sell promo T shirt " I ❤️ DICK S"

  • anyone knows which DSE store still has Logitech K480 bluetooth wireless keyboard?

  • Has Kogan officially assumed control of their website? You sould "sign up" again to the website (now removed) but still not buy from the site.

Also the weekly discount has remained at 35%. I would have expected 40% by Thursday (price change day). I wonder if Kogan has rights to their remaining stock which will just get "transferred online" if unable to be sold in store during the closing down period?

    Edit: Now at 40% off

    • I believe Kogan takes control of the website on the 1st of May.
Stores are supposed to close by the 30th of April.

I am not sure about the remaining stock. I heard it was going to be auctioned after the closing down of the business, but no real sources to back that up.

  • Have started seeing "X days to go" signs in stores. The stores I have seen look to be having their final day on either the 16th or 17th of April.

  • My local had signs up yesterday that they're getting a "huge" shipment in today, hopefully not more phone cases lol

    • +2

Most likely the remains of the already closed stores in the region.

Witnessed a lady lose it today at my local Dick Smith store. She'd purchased a DSE tv about 8 months ago and it was now faulty. Staff member explained the situation but she then ripped into him. Was good to see that he didn't hold back and gave it back to her. She threatened to steal the display tv's and he threatened to call the police. She then started screaming in the store telling people not buy products from here.

I understand why she was upset but it isn't the staff members fault and she was being an absolute cow….welcome to the reality of receivership.

    • Funny you mentioned this as I was at the Westfield Knox store (VIC) yesterday and saw a man bought a DSE TV for about $550- didn't think it was such a good deal but he grabbed it anyway (and paid full in cash)!

    • Saw a similar thing occur the other week. An older guy (looked over 70 years old and not well off) wanted to return a digital radio he had purchased which was not working. Staff explained the situation and said not possible. He then started to shout and abuse them. Told them it was now a worthless piece of junk and they can have it back and just throw it in the bin. Also told everyone in the shop that they should all shop at David Jones. Little did he know about the situation at David Jones. I told him the best he could hope for was to contact the manufacturer and try to deal with them.

        • No TVs? Are dick admins selling them to grays?

        • @juzz0:

Which one are you looking for?

My understanding is that there will not be enough TVs to last the remaining 3 weeks.

        • I'm interested in the DSE 64.5" (http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tvs/ds-65-fhd-hd-dled-lcd-tv-dsa…). Do you know if there are many of those around?

        • @Pielo:

Hi mate, have they taken the website down? Doesn't seem like you can search for anything anymore :(

          20 > 25% on TVs kicked-in today.

        • @Zackyd:

Yes it looks like it. Didnt hear anything apart from the site being taken over on the 1st of May.

        • @Pielo: No worries mate, Guess we'll just have to go easter egg hunting the old fashion way :)

        • @Pielo: Thank you, much appreciated.

    • Thanks, I'm assuming any stores that aren't being listed on these updates (major stores) are still not closing until the 30th (or 29th would be the last trading day).

I would advise most people to wait until the last one or two trading days to see real discounting on store-wide stock as that is what I'm doing. If stock quantities left are meager that is the risk I will take as the discounts on offer at the moment aren't all that enticing.

      • Don't be surprised if it continues for a couple weeks past the 30th of April, but maybe limited by a handful of stores by that stage.

  • The digital radio I was looking at went from 40% off to 50% off. Might wait a bit longer.

  • 14/4 update: Don't worry about Doncaster shopping center one…Nothing useful there and just those 20% tv left…

  • Anyone know why they took all products off the website?

    • +1

They're probably starting to decommission parts of the system instead of keeping them maintained. The website was basically useless now anyway.

They may also be preparing to fire sale some stock from the soon to be closed stores so pricing may not be uniform across all stores.

  • Anyone know if there's a store in Brisbane area with a g29 steering wheel? Thanks in advance

    • +1

None in Carindale. maybe you can try Mt Ommaney

      • Cheers, I'll check a few Northside on the way home from work.

  • +1

Anyone know which stores in VIC is still worth going to?

  • Been to quite a few stores the last couple of days. Seems to be a LOT of stock left of the Beats Studio 2.0. Been looking at a pair since the sale started, they're at 50% now. Any reason why they're not selling? $199 seems a decent price.

Edit: Every other beats headphones (Solo 2 etc) are sold out in all stores I've been to.

    • +1

From what current staff have said, this beats stock arrived very late during the liquidation (as in 2 or 3 weeks ago) and in some stores, in massive numbers (over 100 units in some stores). Its stock the receivers ordered before the liquidation begun (when they started the process of re-stocking the stores in Mid Jan) that took a while to arrive. Even at 50% off it takes a bit of time to clear through the sheer quantity that was bought in.

      • Ahh yep, that makes sense. Thanks mate. Wondering if I should get a pair now or wait and see if they drop further… with the chance they'll sell out!

  • I was at the Hurstville Dick Smith yesterday and it seems alive and well, on the closure list it should have closed a few days ago?

    • There was/is 2 Hurstville stores. One was a (very old) standalone one, other is in the shopping centre. The standalone one closed down.

  • I've been going to Fountain Gate every 1-2 weeks eyeing of a high end wifi/Bluetooth speaker(left over Move store stock).. It was finally under $1500 so jumped on it! Half price and I'm stoked.

  • For anyone else with a sodastream, check with your local store about purchasing what they have left. They're quite cheap now and you dont have to exchange :)

      Cheers Zackyd

    • Awesome, looks like my local Erina Fair isn't closing, ever!

      • Lol apparently cos its in VIC.

    • Great stuff wait until the last two days to see the real discounting increase until store closures on the final day.

  • +1

Shelves at one I visited today were 20c each. $700 TVs still $500.

A few HP AIOs reduced to 499 from 899.

  • I was wondering if there are any more discount this week? Holding off buying, just in-case there is.
    Thanks

    • +2

Since the stores are closing on different dates they will usually start marking down stock either the morning of the last day or the afternoon before, steadily throughout the day further marking day (so 30% off deals may become 40% off deals the afternoon before to 45% the next morning). Then around noon on stock realisation date they might mark down remaining stock all to 50% then by late afternoon (3pm) 60% then what's left is usually marked down to a maximum of 70-80% at around 4pm (the real liquidation sale rates).

This is based off the two MOVE stores I visited the days before they both closed.

Leftover stock will either be transferred to the central store with the closing date further away (so if there is a suburban store to the nearest city central/ large 'regional' store, in the case of MOVE it was Dick Smith stores) or who knows back into the system to be destroyed (when the last stores close in early May). By then it will be mostly defective stock or unwanted goods left anyway.

SMH all the people buying up to save $10 on a $600 phone at the moment etc.

I know someone purchased this phone (https://goo.gl/dYxdIk) for $570 just because it was advertised as "originally" $1274. I doubt Dick sold any at that price even back in late 2014. Basically an inferior version of the Note 4 (no VR capability http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-gear-vr/471152-gear… less powerful) which has itself been superseded by the Note 5. Some people are fools.

Unfortunately your average Joe is suckered into believe these are the real liquidation rates when in reality it is largely the same is the regular clearance sales (although all ranges at the same time when usually it would be 20% of laptops one week, TVs the next week etc.) only recently have we seen elevated discounts slightly above the normal clearance rates they are hardly 'liquidation' sale rates though.

      • Most stock is already 50% off (rrp). Are you saying no more markdowns until the final days?

        • No, just talking about other things that aren't already at high discounts eg. computers, TVs, audio/headphones and phones. Things that are already at 50% will probably go through the same process but I don't see them getting reduced anywhere beyond 80%. Laptops went to 50% but they were transferred up to Dick and didn't get as low as 80% (where they were subsequently put up in price at only 20% off) but I'm assuming everything will be treated like the items they couldn't transfer to Dick (on stock realisation dates - if they can transfer them to other stores they probably will). The reason the BOSE comfort range was so heavily reduced is because I don't think they could be sold under transfer as arrangement specifically with MOVE stores. It may be the case once the price reaches 60% stock (for TVs, computers, phones) they will be transferred for supplier credit back to suppliers but highly doubt they will be bothered with residual stock amounts likely to be extremely low. I think all prices will reach 80% by end of the day (May 3rd or earlier at regional stores which can't easily transfer stock managed by an area manager).

They will put labels out with replaceable amounts off and prices throughout the day. These ended up being around $70-80: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/136450/37850/image.jpg

It's just that people are either ignorant or don't have the patience (like staff see the image in the comment below) to wait until the final day and a half, still think there will be some bargains lying around if you are savvy enough to do your homework.

  • +3

Don't ask them questions anymore, they probably don't have it

    I want a wireless headphone

    • Good luck!

    • macqaurie park looks stacked with beats

      • Every store I've been to are stocked with Beats Studio. None have any wireless though. Was told they never stocked the wireless version.

  • +3

60% off now. The mailout said "final week to save" lol. Translates to "Dick pulls a swifty one last time".

    • Haha went in to a store to buy some Beats at 60% (should have been $160). They told me they're $199 from the $229 they were the last two weeks. I showed the email that said 60%.. didn't want a bar of it. Tried telling me it was a percentage off the $229.. even though the email said 60% off original prices.

      • Total lies. The good stuff left (samsung phones, iPads etc. etc.) are all between 20 and 30% off. The shop is closing tomorrow and they have signs saying stock 60-90% it's just the same as usual…

  • +2

Bose QC20 for Apple $240 still available at Fountain Gate 5 left

Breville The Smart Grinder Pro - Stainless Steel BCG820BSS $120 3 left

Heaps of Logitech roll - didn't see price

Dont know why my local store is open until the end. Nothing left besides about 15 iPhone cases and shop fixtures.

  • DSE TVs now 30% off, at least at Warringah Mall.

    • Promo from 21st to 25th COB. Might see further discount on 26th.

      • Hi Pielo, Any idea if there is anything decent left over? I know inventory must be all over the place but would it be best stick to the stores closing last as they will most likely pick up the remains?

Besides the beats headphones and remaining TV's, there doesn't seem to be anything beside cases and cables.

PS. Came across some Beats Studio's 2.0 at my local for $199 - do you think it's worth holding out much longer for a bigger discount (Risk of them selling out) or is this pretty much as cheap as it gets?

        Thanks mate :)

        • +3

I dont think we have many valuable things left… if any.

IT has been asked to fix the price on Beats headphones. They are supposed to be $159 instead of $199.

        • @Pielo:

That's a shame, figured a lot of people pulled the trigger on the good items a few weeks ago.

Good news on beats, will check it out. :)

I managed to get a 24 inch Samsung curved monitor for $230. Plus it was eligible for Samsung rebate of $50.

Only downside is it was a display model with no box but with 3 years warranty I'll jump.

      • Seems to be the way with these promos. The discounts increase once the promo ends.

Not even funny. These guys are losing their jobs. They have bills to pay like the rest of us, some probably have families to support as well.

  • Lol I'm waiting till they're like

"Damnit!, we made too many cases, so now we're just giving them away"

    • Melbourne CBD store (midtown plaza) seemed to have hundreds of phone cases if not thousands, on Friday. Mostly previous gen cases, like Samsung s5/6.

There really wasn't much at that store, sad.

      • They giving them away yet?

        • They weren't on Friday.

Can't remember the discount, there was a sign up the top of the shelf, but otherwise the individual cases had original price tags. Might have been 80% off?

          @nismo:
My store has all cases for 3 bucks, even then still no deal

Stores that have closed down already cleared cases to 50c (3 for $1) on the last 3 days of trade, then 25 cents (10 for $1) in the last day of trade from what I've seen so far.

      • Well they would end up with a lot of excess stock that store
