Crappy resolution makes it a no go, in my opinion.

You're only running on a little 15" screen. Not as if you need more than that on a screen that size.

      • Are you in the market for a bridge by any chance? I've got a great deal on the Brooklyn Bridge today only…

        • I knew i was going to get neg voted by the people who think you need more than 1366x768 resolution on a small 15" screen.

What next people expecting 4K resolution on a 15" screen?. Remember the higher you increase the resolution the smaller the text becomes on a small screen to begin with. You'll need a magnifying glass to read the text if the resolution is too high on that small screen.

        • @hollykryten:

Have you ever used a 100ppi screen like this? Most mid range devices are 300-400ppi FYI.

          @goingDHfast:

No but it must be crap if it's only 100ppi. Than again the laptop is only around $430 so what do you expect in a laptop of this price range.

Want a better laptop with a higher ppi screen, you pay a lot more.

        • @hollykryten:

Remember the higher you increase the resolution the smaller the text becomes on a small screen to begin with

Not really that is depends on the system. See iPad regina display 326ppi. Windows is not that good on that.

        • @goingDHfast: Really? As far as I know for 10 inch screen, you need at least 2K equivalent resolution for it to be around 250ppi. Surface book with 3000x2000 resolution is still 250ppi. I don't think 2K is that common on Windows devices.

While I do agree that the resolution is low, I don't think it'd be unusable. It's not like you'd use it up close like you'd do with tablets and mobile phones.

      • So the phone with the 5.5" screen and 2K resolution is overkill?

      • +1

I think you need at least 1680 X 1050 on a 15" screen. 1366 X 768 is just ok on an 11". If people keep buying these unsuitably low resolutions, they'll just keep selling them. Time to force them to change ;-)

  • not a bad machine
its at a budget price point

low res screen isnt a big issue for word processing or uni work

macbook air has 1366x768 res and i dont hear people crying over it

its a budget machine with 128gb ssd and 4gb of ram seriously a good deal at this price point

1366x768 is not an issue, the type of screen and how clear is the screen is the main issue.

I have an old Dell XPS and the screen is a lot better than those new low end laptop nowadays.

      • +1

1366x768 defines how clear the screen is!

        • -1

Agreed 720p vs 1080p vs 4k is one the of factor but not 100%, the type of screen is also important.

You may find that an old high end laptop screen looks a lot better than and new low end laptop even they are the same resolutions.

        • @scynaz:

People still don't understand how can a low end crap LCD 720p screen better than an high end 720p LCD screen.

Just like DSE crap FHD TV vs Sony FHD TV ….. Don't just believe in resolution, just like camera don't just believe in megapixels.

    • The Macbook Air has this resolution only on the 11" model! This is a 15 inch monstrosity.

The screen resolution is a big issue for everything. Do yourself a favour and spend a bit more. RAM and SSDs can be had later. 128GB SSDs are dirt cheap.

SSD is good at this price - but what about the chip?

If you combine with Amex offer, this deal would be much better,$428-$25-$50=$353.

  • Would this be better offer? Is smaller capacity SSD worth extra $90? https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/lenovo/l…

    • Different processor as well.

    • Dual Core vs Quad Core.

  • +1

If you just have $400 to spend I guess you don't have much choice.

Otherwise, this is probably the best budget laptop deal around: http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/deals/current-offers/deals-of-t…

$605 upgraded to the 1080p screen. New generation i3 processor that will give you ok-ish battery life. Shame it's a 15" but can't have everything.

    • Not an SSD though… Also i3 (and the others) are up to 6th gen, so i3-5005 is one gen behind.

Lenovo would be easy to recommend if they just put SSDs in.

      • SSD upgrade is an extra $100 for 128GB or $150 for 192GB. In my opinion is a bit of a ripoff.
