  • Do you guys know if the installer would supply me with a splitter as I have cable internet out of the same socket.

  • also does anyone know when the deal finishes? Thanks!

    • 30th April according to the expiry date at the top of the thread (this date is also mentioned in a post by @tekkrohnz on page 1).

      • +1

Since then i have also heard june 30, so TBH i am not positive which one. I believe the june 30 source is more reliable, however as im not certain i would go by the earlier april date JUST TO BE SURE.

im currently have 2 prepaid mobile numbers with telstra and many previously. applied and in 2 hours got email cancellation. chat with them and they advised this:

"Upon confirming to our Specialised team , please be advised that you need to visit the nearest telstra shop and present 3 form of ID's, proof of address and proof of employment 3 recent pay slips. And you can go process the order in the shop"

    • Call them. They are Happy to give u the offer on the phone

      • thanks. tried, the lady seems to be able to get me but then suddenly she said
"wait i saw note in my system about you have to go to the telstra shop bla bla bla.. sorry i cant"

i dont mind go to the store next week. but the lady was very vague about the expiration. she said "maybe end of march, not sure etc etc"

        • Guy I had was wonderful and told me to tell my friends and family as they weren't getting that many calls for this offer

  • +3

For those of you who signed up when this was first posted in January, be aware of the following detail in the Foxtel service agreement:

When you can cancel this Agreement
06.01 You may cancel this Agreement:
    a) at any time by giving us 35 days
notice (and we may ask for written
    confirmation);

Time to cancel now if you don't want to pay for month #4.

    • woah - 35 days notice?!

  • I went through the order process and then late in the peace, it told me that it's a 12 month contract with a $300+ cancellation order.

Can someone steer me in the right direction / assure me I can cancel in time and incur no fees…?

    • Gee.. if you click the link you'll see free cancellation… Any word on expiration date?

      • Yeah, fair enough.

I just wasn't sure if I'd clicked the wrong button somewhere and was about to sign up for some other package..

  • I got an email quoting $134/month !! Is this some kind of a trap?
    Anyone else got this email?

You've selected the Platinum HD package for $134 per month on a month-to-month subscription. We hope that you enjoy the premium entertainment experience with Foxtel from Telstra.

    Edit:
Read it half way. it also says

Your package comes with three months’ free Platinum HD subscription. Your service also includes an iQ2 or MyStar2 recordable device with free standard installation and no equipment fee. For non-standard installation, additional fees may apply. The Installer will discuss this with you prior to attendance.

  • Ok, I got Foxtel now. I never use Foxtel before. I was wondering if there is any reason why I need to pay for movie under Tv guide ? Isn't it included in the package ?

    • The regular ones are included (premier, master piece, thriller, comedy, etc.). Any Box Office channel is one where you will need to pay for the movie.

  • Just some advice for those wishing to keep the Foxtel but on a different package. I am about 3 weeks out from the end of my 3 months free, so I thought I'd be organised and change my package for next month so that I don't have to pay for the channels i don't watch. For, Foxtel via Telstra customers all changes on the account are immediate. So, I went onto the Entertainment + Sports HD package today for $60 per month. This means that I am now billed $60 per month from today and the remaining 3 weeks I had for free were gone.

Talked to a few more people at Telstra to try to get this reversed or get some sort of account credit but no luck.

    • Ouch! How did you make the change, did you call them or is that possible somewhere online?

      • Just call Telstra on 13 22 00, you will eventually be routed to "Foxtel Direct" where any changes you make to your package happens immediately.

  • Any1 know the best way of cancelling and if there is a time frame you gave to give them before end of the 3 months ?

    Thanks

    • one of the post here said 35 days! anyone can confirm and have actually cancelled their trial?

      • Wow thats how they trap you i guess

        • Nah ozb members are smarter we will be setting up reminder on calendars

    • I asked the rep and he said since I am not on contract, they can process it straight away. They will then send you a box to send back your IQ device and its all done.

  • Just got an email, flybuys offering 5,000 flybuys points if you sign up for the offer. Man, Telstra/Foxtel is desperate.

  • now available with 5000 flybuys points and free $2 sim until 30th april :)

  • I just cancelled my service - mine started early feb. So far no problems. i dont think you need 35 days notice~ just like they say you get an email saying your on a 12month contract yet over the phone they say disregard it. Its the same with cancelling i think.

    • Is that mean you can only use it for 3 months minus 35 days before being disconnected ? Or they will disconnect it by end of full 3 months ?

  • Hi Guys, as you know i signed up for this free trial.

i was charged yesterday full price on my second month while still on the free trial!! i was so pissed, had a fight with Telstra and they finally removed the charge.

be very very careful, keep an eye on your bill. i know for sure i won't be renewing

    • +2

hmm i didnt put any bank acc or credit card when applying (havent get it installed yet) so how they charged you?

      • On your Telstra bill, unless you were pre-paid :)

        • Ah yeah im with prepaid. Also jist received first foxtel bill, and it says thank you no payment is required

  • Has anyone tried to sign up with this and delay the install until June to try and get the Olympics as part of the 3 month trial?

    • I did. Had booked for late June-2016 and got an email back.

      • +1

        Nice thanks.

    • I thought the Olympics were exclusive to Seven this year (i.e. no Foxtel co-share arrangement)?

  • Is it possible to negotiate a better package price once the 3 months is up?

  • +6

So…just called Telstra to cancel my three months free trial.

They said that from tomorrow, for those on the three month deal and are looking to cancel, they will be offering a further two months free of the base (Entertainment) package plus either Sports, Drama, or Movies ;)

    • Probably the best news this week! Thanks in time for Olympic!

    • Thanks for the info,

So do you know if we still need to give the 35 days notice to cancel or just call up before the end of the 3 months?

      thanks

      • +1

just call up before the end of the 3 months

Am certain it is this…I cancelled today (15 days before my three months is up), and have already received a cancellation email from Foxtel, and the Telstra guy on the phone advised to expect to get the return authorisation form in the mail shortly so I can post back the box and remote etc.

        • When they will terminate your connection ? Can you still watch it now ? Or it will be when you remove the decoder ? Or when they receive the decoder ?

        • +1

          @yht:

Will test when I get home from work in a few hours and let you know.

        • Thanks why didnt u wait till tommorow and get another 2 months ?

        • +1

          @TheStahh:

Hardly used it in the three months we had it, so am not bothered to keep it any longer and have to call back again to cancel.

        • @yht:

Can confirm my Foxtel service is now cancelled…get following message when I turn it on:

"This smart card is not authorised"

    • I just rang them then saying "i am thinking of cancelling, are there any deals on offer?"

The guy quoted me the standard $50 for entertainment and sport, didn't make any kind of deal.

Is there anything in writing confirming the offer you got?

      • Is there anything in writing confirming the offer you got?

No, he just said over the phone that there would be two deals on offer…the extra two months free as above, or Platinum for $109.

        • Similar offers made here. $109 platinum HD, $35 for Entertainment, Doco's including Sport free for 3 months, then $60 after 3 months was up for all 3 packages. So basically just sport free for 3 months. This was also over the phone as well. Mine was cancelled on the 26th of April with no extra free months option thrown in. Tried to keep Platinum HD for $75 a month but no chance haha. Should have tried $80 lol. Also billing appears to have been corrected, as they tried to charge me pro rata, even though I have no contract that I would be exiting early from. Be vigilant :)

    • +1

Can confirm this deal is available, just depends on who you get on the phone.

Spoke to someone last week as my 3 months trial ends tomorrow (3/5/16).
Told her I don't watch it often, I only use it for sports and thinking about cancelling.
Asked if any other offers they said, entertainment + sports for $50/month on 12 month contract.
Asked of any promotion and she said no, just the standard package.(No mention of free 2 months)
Said I would have to think about it. (Confirmed could callback day before end of 3 months and won't get charged)

Called back tonight and said the same thing to the guy about only watching sports.
He said can downgrade to entertainment and sports for $50/month or he can do entertainment + sports for free as trial for next 2 months (didn't even have to ask about promotion).

Doesn't include HD sports channels though, if you want HD sports, you have to pay extra $10/month.

Changed the package on the spot. Have to call backup though as they changed package but didn't add the HD channels, and sport is so bad without HD once you've experienced it.

      TL;DR

  • Thanks OP. Signed up for 3 months ONLY :)

    • Take your time :P

  • Cancelled mine, was asked whats the reason, just bloody no time to watch! lol!

  • Can anyone confirm if they were charged fees for installation (wall point etc.)? Deal says no set-up costs, but the critical information contradicts which is slightly concerning.

    • Ignore the critical summary as it is standard crap they have. Confirmed on the phone.

      • Thanks!

    • No install fees here (and I'm rural). Have two weeks left before I have to fork out any money. Certainly won't be keeping all channels in Platinum HD beyond that.

      • Thanks for the rural clarification! Not sure if anyone would keep PlatHD @ $135/month..

  • I know this finishes soon but can I get the IQ/IQ2/IQ3 with this for a small fee?

    • Already comes with IQ2 :)

      • Sorry I just tried to edit.

Did a Yong get the IQ3 for $200?

        • No idea, you can't keep the box anyway, why pay more?

  • just got installed yesterday, and the guy threw in 2 netcomm 500mbs powerline adapters which was sweet. Anyone know if you can keep these after cancelling, I don't want the box but the adapters are nice.

  • If you want two power line adaptors for accessing online demand content, call their foxtel cancellation team and request they be sent out for free.

They said I should have received them on installation.

    • What is online demand content?? Is it different to the standard channels?

      • It's called foxtel go. Much of their TV shows and movies accessible on the standard channels are saved online to watch later when you like. You can watch live TV online too on your other devices. The IQ box doesn't have WiFi though so you need to plug it into an Ethernet cable connected to your modem.

I actually don't have my own foxtel account but set a friend up who gave me his account details. So I access everything he has via foxtel go on my HTPC. Surprisingly good resolution.

        https://www.foxtel.com.au/got/whats-on/foxtel-go.html/

  • I have an iq3 box which i think has wufi? Is that still relevant to us? We can watch the standard tv channels on our tv through foxtel?

    • I dont fully understand your question here sorry. Yeah, the iq3 has wifi and can access all fta channels (provided you have an aerial point there aswell).

  • Has anyone cancelled yet? What's the process like? Is it a 35-day notice or can cancel the day the trial period ends?

    • +2

Yeah - I cancelled a few weeks ago:

"RE cancelling the trial 35 days before the three months ends…I cancelled 8 days before the three months was up.

Got a confirmation of cancellation email, then they sent out the aus post return code, and I took the box and cables to the post office, and they packaged it up sent it off."

FYI: They're still offering free 3 months, but installation of $175 now.

Foxtel from Telstra 3 Months Free Platinum HD Subscription offer only available to customers who have not had a Foxtel service within the last 3 months. Installation and equipment charges of $175 apply for the iQ2. Installation and equipment charges of $300 apply for the iQ3. Ongoing subscription charges apply after 3 months unless you change your package or cancel earlier. Not available in conjunction with any other offer.

Called last night to cancel right on the day before I'd start being charged (I confirmed this via online crowed support). Was asked why I wanted to cancel. I said too expensive. Asked what I watched. I said movie and sports. Was offered an extra 2 months basic pack plus movies, sports or drama (only 1) for another 2 months for free.

  • +1

So the people that cancelled it day before 3 months was up did you have to pay extra because it wasn't 35 days notice?

    • +1

I gave less than 30 days notice when I cancelled. No cost whatsoever.
They will send out a letter a couple of weeks before then end of the contract with 3 options. 1 - keep as is; 2 - keep and alter packages; or 3 - return Foxtel box. Select 3 and they send out another letter which you take to the local Post Office with the Foxtel box, remote etc - they pack and return - again without cost to you. :-)

      • +1

        Thanks for the info :)
If you decide to cancel do you keep until the last day or does it cancel once they send the second letter?

        • +1

The way I understand the process, you keep the service up until the end of the 3 months.

I didn't realise they were send me a 'choice' letter so I had rung them about a month before the end of the 3 months to ensure I wouldn't get caught with any charges and ended up cancelling the service immediately.

  • No free bonus months on offer when I called the last 2 days. No discounts either.

That said, I got my $200 welcome credit promised when I signed up to this promo. Means 3.3months of free hd sports before transferring over to foxtel to negotiate.

  • So I called Telstra to cancel over a week ago, foxtel is still working and I haven't received anything in the mail to return the box.

How long did it take for your prepaid satchel to get to your mailbox so you could do the return?

    • You might want to call them again.

My Foxtel box stopped working within half an hour of cancelling, and they sent the aus post return code via sms the next day:

      https://www.foxtel.com.au/got/support/accounts-billing/equip…

      • I shouldn't have called.

I was in limbo where Telstra thought I had cancelled and foxtel thought I was pending cancellation.

Wasn't offered the 2 months free/extra and disconnected by the end of the day.

Oh well, was good while it lasted.

  • +2

Can confirm that the additional 2 months free with Entertainment + either Sports, Movies or Drama is being offered.

    • Is that when you sign up or go to cancel?

  • Anyone know if we get to keep the powerline adapters when we cancel the subscription?

    • Well, looks like we do get to keep the powerline adapter…got the SMS code to return the set top box, and when I went to the post office, they only took the IQ2, remote and power cable…I tried to give them everything, but the lady refused to accept it, said that "it wont fit", any one experienced the same thing? Happy to keep the powerline adapters if this is the case..:)

  • +1

Yup, can confirm I got the extra 2 months offer as well. You have to pay $10 extra for HD. If you want more than one package added on by paying extra, I recommend you take the offer with sports as it is $25, whereas the other packages are $20.

  • Couple of questions, I want it in my bedroom so does the tech say where it goes? And I live in regional NSW, so am I likely to pay for installation and set up?
    Thanks

  • Called for Cancellation. They offered free Basic and Sports/Movies/Drama. Opted for basic + sports for another 2 months free. Will call them in 1 & half months to cancel again, if there is no cancellation fees, which basically isn't

  • I also called up to cancel today and they offered free basic+sport for 2 months. Happy days :)

  • Yep, just called to cancel (2 days before end of 3 months!) and was offered the 2 months free :)

    • +2

Same, called 132200, said 'cancellation' to the robot, gave my Telstra billing account, asked to cancel, the operator offered two more months of basic plus sport/drama/movies. I picked basic plus movies. Platinum package will last two more days too. Happy chappy here.

She then said there would be a survey with two questions, and coached me through them, lol. Have I satisfied your request, I belive so, and would you rate me 10 out 10 sir… Awkward silence, yeah sure, I said. Then I gave her 10 out of 10, hopefully she will be happy with that rating :)

  • To those of you who have cancelled, did you all do it by phone?
I dislike phoning, much prefer emails.
But chatting online with Telstra on another issue, they cant chat with me on Foxtel, and said there's no email address either. That I must ring.
    Any ideas please?

    • Just call…

The sales girl I spoke to knocked $10 off my monthly mobile phone bill while I was there. Sure, she tried to sell me a $15/month data bonus, but I just nicely said no thanks and she was fine with that, and took off the $10 :)

    • Yeah, by phone, if you call on your Telstra phone, they pickup your account and it's mostly a robot, just say cancellations, when asked.

  • How to get the powerline adapters I am on my 2 months free after the 3 months can I get them or do they charge you?

    • Call 132200, and ask how can you connect to your router, as its in the next room, they should be able to help you out. Might be a fee it'll be another delivery.

  • +1

I rang to cancel a day before my free period ended. When I said I wanted to cancel they asked the reason and what did I mostly watch. Said sport so they gave the 2 months entertainment and sport for free.

    • Thanks Smity. I'll keep that in mind when I ring to cancel

    • Thanks I will set reminder to call Two days before 3rd month anniversary of my installation date.

    • Just got offered the same deal - came on here to update this thread and you are already ahead of the game!

That takes my foot coverage through to mid september - when all the finals are live anyway!!

      Then cancel ahoy!!

Hope they roll this out next year - will just need a new $2 sim :)
