  • So do we get to keep the equipment? Iq2 or iq3 since there is an upfront cost to it?

    • There is a $200 cost if you upgrade to iq3.

      • You dont get to keep it, there is equipment cost. However you still need to return it at the end. If you dont return the box when you cancel there is a fee (i think its about 300).

  • Honestly no idea why you would want this. My friend has Foxtel and it's garbage - just full of non stop ads and the price he pays is ridiculous. I've tried to convert him to Netflix or stan but they don't understand the tech and process and think it's too hard for some reason. Hence a lot of Foxtel customers must continue to pay just because it's what they have always known. I have ozbargain free trials of both presto and stan. Presto is crap but stan is ok (wouldn't personally pay for it though). This means continue downloading or pay for Netflix (which I think is a bargain compared to Foxtel) as long as the vpn will work with it.

"Honestly no idea why you would want this."
      Because it's free.

      • .. free .. THEY have NO idea ..

    • +6

      Sport. That's it.

  • What about rental properties? Would I need approval from the landlord o.o?

    • +1

I would seek permission regardless. My previous rental owner didn't give a sh!t. I notified the RE the day the technician came out and they said the owner really didn't care.

But my former roommate did Foxtel installations and when he called customers the night before the day of installation, one of the questions was "do you have permission from the landlord?". All you're doing is raising the value of the property IMO.

or Decreasing with foxtel cable run all over the outside of the house

        • +1

          ????

Not sure what you're talking about.

        • @Dagmar: Telstra techs will try and just run cable around outside of house and punch the cable in from outside instead of neat internal runs

        • @asa79:

Ahh, my roommate worked for a contracting company. Had nothing to do with Telstra.

        • @asa79:
Most will try to do it internally, its much quicker to run it internally and cheaper. However its not alway possible. Most techs hate running conduit. You may get the occasional shit (profanity), but most arent too bad. Thats gonna happen with all types of workers in all fields though, always a couple of shit ones.

      • +1

        Thanks for that :)

  • If the deal does finish at the end of April, hold off until then. You can then get it just in time for the entire season 6 of Game of Thrones :D

  • +1

Just signed up and got the iq3 for free. They said it's free. I checked 4/5 times.

    • Was this on the phone? I signed up online and the iq3 was an extra $100 $200 compared to the free iq2.

      • Yes over the phone.

    • online it says $200 upfront for iq3

      • My mistake. Either way, not free, which is why I went with the iq2.

        • Take the IQ2 over the IQ3 anyway, much more stable unit.

  • +1

Thought Foxtel would be dead by now

  • +1

Ordered, thanks OP! Says online you can only book your appointment up to 60 business days away, so late I could book was 29th March. Will catch some of GoT at least.

    • +1

      You'll catch all of it.

      • Just! Assuming they air it express from the US, you'll have 2 days left after the last episode.

        • +1

GoT is being simulcast on Foxtel, shown at the same time as in the U.S.

  • Just received an email stating the order has been cancelled. "unfortunately"

    • +2

wow they don't like your cash ?

    • Mine was cancelled too, any idea why they are cancelling some and not others?

    • Same.

    • Currently on the phone to Telstra Business Online Shop. There was no reason on my file why it was cancelled and service definitely available, so they are re-processing it manually. Will let you know how it goes to save you the hour long phone call.

      • I was on their online chat. Originally was told I need to call up, was planning too. But thought I'd do a new chat and ask if I needed a Telstra service to be able to get this offer. The second chat rep said similar sort of thing. Saying that the Foxtel dept.'s system for some reason cancelled the install….he asked if he could ring me after he spoke with the Foxtel team, he rang me and said its all sorted, i Should get a confirmation email in 48 hours

        • I had to email proof of occupancy since the previous owner didn't cancel their Foxtel properly (not surprising since he went bankrupt). So I have had to email my Telstra bill which shows my address to Telstra, go figure.

  • Thanks - awesome deal! Just singed up online. The critical information summary is incorrect - but the confirmation email confirms the deal.

  • Yeah just spent 2hrs on Telstra's online chat thing confirming no fees like the CIS states and geez gave me a good reminder not to have anything to do with them ever again.

    • what do you mean by the CIS states?

      • That you're liable to pay for the iQ box, which apparently isn't the case here but contradictory as usual and great Telstra service to top it off with.

  • Thank you for your post.

  • All I want to do is watch the Supercross, on this would it be possible? I can't access the site atm and I know it airs on Fox Sports 1 (USA) channel or Fox Sports 2.

  • Hoping someone can help me out with this one:

I bought a new house that doesn't come with an antenna or coax, or as far as I know anything for me to watch TV on except through my ADSL2. Will the install benefit me in any way if I cancel, for watching just Free to air TV?

    • -1

      No

    • Guessing here, but I don't see how you couldn't unscrew the F-type connection of the satellite dish and screw it onto an external antenna to get FTA channels???

      • Because a satellite is not an antenna….

        • Yeah hence why I said unscrew from satellite

        • A satellite dish is in fact a type of antenna.

        • +1

@cowiie: Sorry - I get you now. Good call!

    • +1

      Actually yes it could.
You buy a VAST satellite receiver box eg. Altech, which uses exactly the same dish and cabling as Foxtel to watch all Free to Air TV.
Mine cost around $250 and was purchased to use in my caravan - but it works just as well attached to my TV at home.
You might baulk at paying $250 but how much does it cost for a digital aerial including installation?

    • I'm thinking same.
Have no antennas on my house.
Thinking i go for this, get free install of cables and wall plugs and then just disconnect the Sat antenna and put in its place a digital FTA antenna, saving me the costs of install coax and wall plates etC

  • Currently have Foxtel direct from them.
Moving house next month. If I get Foxtel through Telstra, am I considered a new customer for this deal?

  • Just called the 1800 676 088 number and the lady I spoke with said the 3 months free was only for the "HD Channels" and therefore would still be required to pay $110 per month(assuming I chose the platinum package).

    • She's wrong. Their website clearly says 3 months for $0.

    • +1

it does say save 577 on the offer.

  • +1

Thanks OP! I've been missing F1 badly and can't go another year without it. So I just told my bride, darling, I've just ordered Foxtel for your birthday! :)

    • +1

I had forgotten all about channel 10's pathetic f1 coverage last year will be good to not have to watch races online.

  • Thanks, signed up but half expect it not to be honored

  • I recently cancelled my foxtel 3 weeks ago. Still have IQ3 box sitting there (but can't do anything with it). It was installed in my living room. I would like foxtel in the bedroom now. If I get them to install a wall socket in the bedroom and connect it all up… Can I just move the box into the living room on occasion if I wanted to watch it there every now and then?
Also once its connected at my address will my current IQ3 box become activated too or can I only use the IQ2 box that comes with this deal?
    Thanks

    • Yes, you can move the box between the different Foxtel enabled outlets in your home (as long as the tech doesn't cut the living room cable when they run the new cable to the bedroom - highly unlikely).

  • +2

i asked for a march install ready for sports…3 months i hope from the install date not the signup date. plus the wife will be having a bub then so she has something to put on during the day.

    • Yep I was thinking of doing da same thing!

      • +2

MArch install or the bub? ;)

    • Reading through the comments (can't see it on the website) - am I right this deal finishes end of April? Was it easy enough to post-date your install?

I'd love to set it up starting mid April - expiring mid July. Mainly just to cover most of the footy season as well as Game of thrones.

I had Foxtel at my house perhaps 3 years ago and cancelled. I still have the antenna and points in the house - wonder if I will be considered "new"

      • +2

I asked the same question to Telstra CSR and he advised 3 months when your connection starts and installation has be within Promotion dates which is ending in April.

        • Perfect - 20th April to 20th July sounds almost perfect!

Now hopefully I meet the new client requirement, off to buy a $2 Sim now :)

      • I asked Telstra if I can get it installed at a specific date and they said…
"When an order is placed we do allocate the first available appointment, if you are unavailable to be home on this date we will supply other options."
So the expiry date is 30th April for the deal.
Join up then to get the 3 months for MAY JUNE JULY

  • Does this install a new phone line for satellite users? That's what used to happen right? separate phone line for pay-per-view stuff?

    • No

    • +1

Direct phone connections are no longer installed. Pay-per-view ordering and catchup TV is all internet based, on CAT6 for IQ2, or CAT6/Wi-Fi on IQ3.

      • Foxtel dont run cat6 hardwire though, powerline adaptors are used instead.

        • Or CAT6 patch lead direct to modem

  • My order got cancelled this morning

    • +1

Same. Looks like im buying a $2 telstra sim

      • Don't bother. I have an active Telstra pre paid mobile service, but that didn't stop them cancelling mine.

        • yup same, order got cancelled… no explanation as to why

  • Guys a noob question but is the install via a satellite dish or using your existing ADSL broadband connection?

    • +1

True Foxtel, so either satelite or through the Cable infrastructure.

  • Will this offer - Foxtel from Telstra - slow my Telstra cable internet speed while watching movies?

    • +1

I've used this for years, haven't noticed and slowness when using them both at once.

    • no.

  • Can you get this offer installed at 2 points in your house? Or does it only include 1 point? I know you would only get one iq box included but wondering if you can get a second point on another tv connected?

    • +1

This is between you and the technician - ask them on the day if they will install a second Foxtel outlet for you. The techs are contractors and most are happy to pick up some extra cabling work (for cash or carton :))

      • You can also get it added to your order properly as what is called an 'Add Wallplate'

  • Mine's also been cancelled.

"The plan you've chosen isn't available on your Telstra account" which is weird since I've had a landline with Telstra for almost 10 years now. Reckon this one's been OzBargained and they're just cancelling most of them.

Would be interested in hearing if anyone's had any luck getting it installed or following up with why it's been cancelled??

    • I think their systems had an error

      • An error that issued these emails incorrectly? Or an error that posted the deal up online when it wasn't meant to?

        • the former, i assume

      • human error? haha it seemed to be written from a person with no interest.

  • Also just got the "Unfortunately, the plan you've chosen isn't available on your existing Telstra account.

This means we can't proceed with your order so it's been cancelled. We'll refund any delivery charges and/or purchase amount you've already paid us to the credit card you used to place the order."

I have an active pre paid service with them - which qualifies according to their CIS. So what gives, Telstra!?

    • Go in to a store, it will get organised straight away. Or if you want. Send me a PM and I'll see what I can do for you, bud.

  • Mine got cancelled, rang up, got transferred from Telstra Business to Foxtel, they said yes it got cancelled as the deal needs a valid Telstra account. She actually recommended getting a $2 pre-paid sim if i did not have a telstra account. They are due to ring me back in an hour to take my pre-paid sim details to reactivate the deal.

    • +1

Confirmed, Foxtel rang me back and once I provided the activated pre-paid mobile number they then created a Telstra post paid account which is required to get the deal. Confirmation email issued minutes later confirming deal. Sorted for install end of March, ready for GoT.

  • It Worth your consideration.

  • +1

With getting Foxtel from Telstra, can you actually negotiate with Telstra to get a discounted deal when your contracts up? I know the fact Telstra never reward their loyal customers with their mobile plans unlike Vodafone and Optus. Getting Foxtel directly gives you a better deal by calling them up directly, from what I've read at Whirlpool forums.

  • Just booked mine in by talking with customer service rep, then installer. Installation February with IQ2. Winning!

  • Bah. Not available at my address ! What more beyond a phone line do you need for foxtel ?

    • satellite reception ?

      • You should be able to get sat reception pretty much anywhere UNLESS it is a line of sight issue (by trees and such)
