Those 6-pack deals are creeping up a bit now though aren't they…

    • +3

Yep, paying more for a worse product - DM's obviously colluding with Australia Post…

      • +27

One day I'm going to gather my kids round the fire and tell them about the time DM's sold White Rabbit for $10 a six-pack for a whole month..

        • +11

Especially when I did click and collect and they gave me a slab instead of a sixer.

        • +3

          Mann those were the days.

        • +2

@Grunef: happened to me as well!

The Single Fin is a decent drop, equivalent carton price is $54 ($6 saving). Although, they were selling this in their Australia Day catalogue for $49/carton from memory.

  • +6

Getting a bit expensive and not too appealing these days. Was good when it first began.

  • smashed a case of the gage roads pale ale yesterday and it was a good drop, brewed over in fremantle WA.
Will definitely give the summer a go

  • Has anyone tried Greenalls Gin?

    • I think someone in Darwin tried it once.

          Wail.

        • +10

@chickentaste: Dan's $12 Ale sale pales after hail of mail fails to nail sales to New South Wales males who avail the pail of ale on sale.
Alas, the ale pail tale with frail sales sets sail after drinkers bail.

        • @MITM: it's not MITM, it's M&M

  • +3

Johnnie walker gold for $65, that's not bad either - normal DM price $85 and 1st choice $95

    • Although it tastes like a $25 whisky

      • +3

      • actually prefer it over blue label, best Johhnie IMO

        • I reckon double-black is the best…

    • +1

These sales are getting worse and worse, the beers are also becoming their exclusive brands which they have a financial stake in so they SHOULD be able to offer them at even better prices. I belive WW have a 25% stake in Gage Road, and not only that Gage road are a contract brewer who make beers for many companies, including Matsos from Broom and other WW products under other brands.

Market is being saturated with boring fake "micro brew" style brands, which hide the real micro brews in the market, many of which are hard to actually get in the big liqueur stores now. Dan Murphys range looks bigger now than ever, but in reality its just more of their home brand variety. Woolworths are not the only company doing this.

Woolworths brand subsidaries that look like "micro brews":
    Gage Roads
    John Boston
    Sail N Anchor

Coles brand subsidaries that look like "micro brews":
    Steamrail
    Hammer N Tongs

Don't get me started on Coca Colas "micro brews" hidden behind Australia Beer Co.
    Yenda
    Alehouse
    Arvo

We all need to embrace the real local small breweries and independently owned micro breweries and support them by buying their products.

    or….
Maybe i'm just bitter about this months crap beers/prices…

  • Oh no! an actual business is trying to maintain a profit by selling their own branded product amongst other great bargains. This, month I purchased Ardbeg 10 yr old for $65 and DOZENS of six packs of Stella for $10! last month superb Woodford reserve bourbon $10 off and Makers mark $6-10 cheaper than anywhere else. How dare they also sell products they are actually making a profit on to all the FREE subscribers to their store club card!
I thought we were Oz bargainers sharing info on good deals, not scabs complaining about businesses actually needing to turn a profit to satisfy share holder demands.
If you dont like the price, shop elsewhere, pay $19 for stella or $95 for Ardbeg at Liqourland because when there is no competition, that will seem like a great deal.
    My 2cents.

I am more upset about the misleading selling of 'craft' beer that is not true craft beer, or not what I would consider to be craft beer. We actually need more major players in the market keeping them honest.

    • +1

Of all people then you should understand what Dan Murphy (woolworths) do to the industry and should be upset at their business practices.

      Is that dick smith?

  • +1

Yes Dan Murphy bastardize the local brewers, (some of whom are fairly ordinary) but they also sell top shelf products at better prices than independents and have the best range in south Australia. I cant go to my local bottle o and get good scotch at all, let alone at a good price. Before Dan Murphy we were all drinking Johnnie walker and west end draught down here. Government taxes on alcohol are as much to blame for prices and small business struggles to supply quality product at a decent price than multi national companies manipulating the market. Take out Dan's and what would you have? Jim beam, Jack Daniels, Tooheys, Bundy and Smirnoff. I may have to stay sober :)

  • Any feedback on the Captain Morgan Spiced Rum? The Mrs. had some spiced rum over Christmas (mixed with ginger beer) and quite enjoyed it and has now asked me to buy for her, but I don't know much about the spiced rum. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA

    • +3

If she digs dark rum, buy her a bottle of "The Kraken". It isn't cheap, (>$50) but I think it is the best dark rum you can get.

      • Thanks Juddy!

    • +1

I recommend Rebellion Bay Spiced Rum. Best one in my opinion, has a very subtle vanilla flavour. Good straight or mix with coke/ginger beer. Another good mix is soda water with a quarter lime squeezed in and left in the drink.

Let me know what you think if you try the rum!

Captain Morgan is alright if you don't have anything else, suits everyone.

      https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_743752/rebellion-ba…

      • thanks apptrack!

    • Notice there is no mention of the word "Rum" on the Captain Morgan bottle?

      • If it's under 37% abv then it is no longer able to be labelled a spirit, or in this case a rum. Which is why you'll see words to the effect of 'rum-based drink' or 'liqueur'
