    Delivery = $7.95
    Wasn't it $5.95 before?

    • yes. Seems to go up and down

  • +3

Well today is official launch date of Chromecast 2. Let the discounting begin. $59 @JB (RRP).

    Ozbargain, cos every dollar counts…

  • does anyone have the chromecast audio?

    • +2

I do. What do you need?

      • Sorry I meant is anyone selling the chromecast audio other than ebay sellers importing them from the US

        • No worries.
Would you be interested in buying mine? I don't really need/use it.

        • +1

@albert0pia: Not sure, I need it for a relative, so I'll have to ask them. I'll get back to you.

        • All major stores? Heaps at HN QV today.

    • Yes, pretty good. Support for android apps is limited though :(

      • Do you get problems with lag/connectivity? Currently having problems with mine when playing spotify. It could be my terrible ADSL 2+ connection…

        • No problems whatsoever. Try a different phone/tab. A friend of mine used a tab and the output was stutter, but worked fine for the phone. Mine works with both.

        • @rgovind: It's odd that anyway would get a different result using a different phone/tablet/device as the Chromecast audio don't stream content like Spotify through the phone/tablet/device… the streaming is handed off and the Chromecast streams it directly. You can turn the phone off after you start the stream and the stream will continue.

I have the LG H3 which has chromecast audio integrated into it.

tbh i found it disappointing for the following reasons:
      1. Spotify and Deezer require paid subscription to cast to it via wifi (I think Pandora was ok without a sub)
      2. YouTube cannot cast audio

Obviously if you already have a paid sub then this wont be an issue for you.

I had wrongly assumed it would be the same as Chromecast video, it's just that it would just play the audio…personally i think it would be more worthwhile to somehow connect a chromecast video dongle to a set of speakers.

      • Couldn't you just get the regular Chromecast, connect it to an amplifier and use it with the TV off? I'm not sure what the appeal of the Chromecast Audio is?

  • So, does this one support 5Ghz wifi?

    • +2

yeap. Should be a much smoother streaming now.

      • +3

Never had a problem with my original

        • +1

you only really need this if you live in an apartment or have too many wireless devices on 2.4GHz

  • +1

Slightly cheaper at JB if you need delivery.

  • +2

    For a sec i thought its 2 peices of chromecast 2 :p

  • +2

Seems similar price to the arm android tv boxes but less flexible.

Does anybody know if the DNS settings are locked like the 1st gen ? Thanks

    • +1

To the best of my knowledge yes. I tried to look for solutions when the unit was released last year to stream Netflix (got mine from the US). Unfortunately I haven't looked around since, so some other solution might have emerged.

      • Just use the static route feature on your router to redirect the 2 Google dns servers

        • Thanks but I have Optus cable and the router provided does not allow you to do this.
I don't really wish to purchase a different router.

          Thanks

        • +1

@smashed: Probably best to get something like a Roku then

    • This is a simple generic instruction from Getflix. It requires full access to your router. link https://getflix.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/202281524-Block-Public-DNS-Overview

Look for a section on your router to add static routes, there should be room for a network address, subnet mask and gateway. You need to setup the static routes like this:

      Network Address: 8.8.8.8
      Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.255
Gateway: (use the IP address of your router - this is the IP that's in the browser URL)

      Network Address: 8.8.4.4
      Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.255
Gateway: (use the IP address of your router)

      Network Address: 208.67.222.222
      Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.255
Gateway: (use the IP address of your router)

      Network Address: 209.244.0.3
      Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.255
Gateway: (use the IP address of your router)

It works perfectly on my Netgear r7000.

      • Do I need an account with anyone to apply the above settings?

I used to use UnoTelly or some other provider but was very buggy so cancelled it all and just put up with the aussie content.

        • Sign up with getflix and add the above settings to your router.( or find specific settings for another brand router if you you use)

What is better than version 1?

    • +1

The wifi is supposedly much faster, and the new app has more stuff to help you find stuff to watch.

      • +1

The version 1 there are some video couldn't play will version 2 support more video format?

        • +1

Use the chrome extension Videostream to play those videos with the version 1. Works well from a PC.

      • Does the new app also works with original Chromecast? So only better would be better WIFI?

    • Version 2.

      • Of course always better but what is better?

        • It does Wi-Fi AC 5GHZ so if you live in an apartment block with a lot of 2.4Ghz wireless N networks our you have an open plan lounge and joined kitchen like me where each time the microwave runs it craps on your streaming then yes this is better and is the last piece of my streaming puzzle. I have a wireless a.c. router, wireless a.c. Nic in my computer and a wireless a.c. mobile. With this I can be king of my media streaming in 1080p.

What are the basic advantages of GC2 over the first version (apart from WiFi) which I can also afford?

      • +1

Design may be a +ve. I have 3 different places I can put my chromecast 1, and it doesn't fit any properly without using the extender cable, basically because it's big design doesn't fit right next other HDMI cables.

I'm going to get one, just a question of whether it's today or wait for a 20% off special on one of those ebay stores.

        • +1

I'm going to wait for a deal. Like you I have a few around the house but i'm not paying full price.

  • +1

Can i use this in my car to stream audio?

    • +1

Yes, hotspot from your phone and off you go.

Although with my phone data plan, I'll stick to fm…

    • You could, thought I'd tend to stick with Bluetooth - either built in, or a bluetooth adapter for the 3.5mm jack socket.

  • +2

Buy a few and use that $25 newsletter discount ?

    • I wish.. Min $150 spend

  • +5

Went searching at dicksmith to see their price and this is what I got as a result for "Chromecast 2"

    Tape not included.

  • Is the new Chromecast Audio device available in Australia yet?

  • is it a lot better in terms of smooth and play experience than a built-in media streaming device that comes with my Panasonic Smart TV? don't want to buy because it's cool and cheap. any other benefit that im not aware of?

  • Not worth the money if you only want it for 5GHz seeing it's shorter range

  • Merged from Chromecast 2 under $50 at Harvey Norman if you buy 3

Combine the $58 deal (thanks to muncan) and the $25 email signup voucher (http://www.harveynorman.com.au/newsletter/) to get 3 for $149, less than $50 each.

    • Haha group deal

    • This is scraping the bottom of the 'bargain' barrel…

    • +2

Dead link, clicking on it takes me to a "Something's gone wrong!" page.

      • Same as me :(

  • Double what I paid for Chromecast 1, and can't see a benefit.

    • Faster and Wireless AC compatible, I have both and the 1 now seems slow

      • Slow to do what, though?
Cost is actually more than double what i paid (ozb coding messed up) and I'm not even needing wireless n.

Ignore my tightarse ways, though. Chromecasts are awesome, simple, and worth even full price. Rarely, gadgets deliver all promises. These do!!

        BUY!!

  • From my research, it seems like the Chromecast 1 and 2 can't be grouped with the Chomecast Audio for multi-room audio?

Anyone heard or experienced any different?

    • They can't do multi-room audio, not natively anyway and I've not heard of any extensions that would allow this either.

  • So I'm trying to complete my online order with Harvey Norman, but when I press the 'Place Order' button nothing happens. Tried my Ipad, and tried Firefox on the desktop. Any ideas?

    • In answer to my own question - I had to log out of my account and checkout as a guest.

  • Already out of stock in Adelaide SA, West Perth WA and Blacktown NSW.

    Get em while you can!

    • Still avail at most SA Stores.

  • Thanks Muncan…bought a couple of Chromecast-2 & a Chromecast audio for $149

Wouldn't it be great if the ABC got its iView app working with this?

  • They'll get cheaper, don't jump the gun yet!

  • Wow Jb Hi Fi won't even price match the $1 price difference.

  • Wait a few months. No need to rush. Meanwhile I have my logitech bluetooth units for hifi and original chromecast for video. Don't need this yet. Watch price to come down.

  • +1

Just wait a week or 2. It was mentioned there was going to be a 20% off sale on ebay coming up towards the end of the month https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/3450193/redir

    • +1

When that happens, All the participating sellers will raise the price to $70+. $59 is only the 'recommended 'retail price from Google.

    • +1

With the newsletter discount, you get close to 15% discount. Not bad for the first day of local release.

  • +2

Wonder why they waited so long to release in oz, when i picked mine up the bloke said they been out the back for months

  • Newsletter signup broken?

Nice.. one more gadget helping to fry your brain in the sea of high energy wi-fi waves. Good luck!

    • +1

Tinfoil is on special at Coles, so you should probably stock up. Never know how many hats you'll need.

    • +1

High energy wi-fi waves? You realise visible light carries more energy than wifi, which pales in comparison to UV light.

    • 10 comments in 3 years, and you thought that was worthy of #11…?

  • How is this different to the old Chromecast? I have a first gen one that works fine, but I like to keep up with the latest stuff. Anyone here able to comment on what makes it any better?

    • better connectivity, 5GHz wifi compatible and maybe better apps?

  • i was holding out from chromecast 1 for so long chrome cast 2 has come along! time to jump on the bandwagon and see how this baby goes.

just out of interest has anyone tried hooking this up to a projector for some wireless funs?

  • Is this deal available for Chromecast Audio?

I like to throw the occasional house party and I was using the original Chromecast to stream audio to TVs (connected to stereo systems) in each room and so the house was full of music without having to blast the music and have neighbors complain.

Will be a lot easier with chromecast audio as I can now just connect it to the stereo directly.

    • Yes. Just set up my 3 and it is awesomeness.

  • Anybody know how to sign up to the newsletter. The link http://www.harveynorman.com.au/newsletter/ doesn't work.
