  • Just booked Syd-Dps in November for a week at $574 return for two people. Flat bed FTW!

  • I don't think they will not honour the bookings…they honoured the bookings the last time there was a glitch.

    • +3

      I don't disagree with you

      • +1

Based on the rarity of the $127 DPS-SYD flatbed flights I think the pricing may even end up being not unintentional.

        • +1

It wouldn't be inaccurate to assume that it is or isn't unintentional

        • +1

@Tafe: Doesn't sound not true to me as well. See how we go.

  • Shweet thanks OP.

  • Thanks OP. Booked return Syd den. $700 return for two. Flatbed on way there.

  • With fares this cheap I definitely won't be flying AirAsia… the pilots already don't have sufficient training - can't see errors like this helping the situation…

    • Mayday mayday…we have a glitch on check out

  • Thanks OP.
5 Tix for the family SYD-DPS October

I booked return Flat Bed for $825 - 2 adults and 1 child. Thanks OP!!
I have to say, I don't think these are mistakes but a marketing tactic to get people to sign up as members and also ensure they up their passenger numbers in advance as Aussies are tendidng to travel more locally rather than International due to the $au.
Also, I've noticed that once you make a booking, you can't get access to the sale fares anymore.

    • +2

Also, I've noticed that once you make a booking, you can't get access to the sale fares anymore.

      Really? I haven't noticed that.

  • -7

Wouldn't go to Bali if you paid me. Couldn't care less how cheap it is. 3rd world corrupt country.

    • -1

      Good one rog 😳

    • -1

so Indonesia didnt align itself with either the Russians or the USA/allies in the cold war?

      or am I missing something?

or do you have absolutely NO idea what 'third world' even means?

  • I disagree…Aussies are traveling to Asia more as it is cheaper than travelling in Oz…AA sales always tend to be for dates that far out. It is more likely a mistake…esp when their premium cabin only has 12 seats…if they wanted to increase sales, they would have lowered their economy seat prices.

    • if they wanted to increase sales, they would have lowered their economy seat prices.

Economy is their breadwinner though, you don't make a killing off filling 12 "premium" seats, unless they are first class quality and price. If it is intentional, it'd just be coming out of their marketing budget, it gets people talking positively, and that is the ultimate for them.

      • I don't think that such a small group of people talking about this premium product is something they would spend their marketing budget on. AA prides itself on being able to sell economy seats cheap…that is Tony Fernandez's sales pitch. The offering of a premium flatbed is something on offer for s select group of people who are willing to pay slightly higher prices than s normal economy ticket on a non budget airline for a more comfortable seat (that is what you really get in this premium cabin…). I do keep my eye on the premium seat prices as we are happy to pay for a more comfortable seat and apart from the glitch, I have never seen prices this low…the last time these tickets were on sale in March last year, they were about $900 pp return.

        • Oh I'm not personally of the opinion that it is intentional, just wanted to try and find an angle that they could justify such a promotion from. You are correct though, bulk cheap seats is definitely the name of their game.

  • Still quite a few available SYD-DPS in November and some October. Amazing value for a bed for the night if honoured.

Can't pull the trigger for a flight in November though (a bit far off, rainy season, security warnings, Bali been there done that, no novel high-value onward flight connections). I'd like to see more of Indonesia though.

    • when in November?

      • Sorry I was offline. I recall November 6 but that was hours ago.

Haven't checked again but make sure you're logged in and just check every day in Oct/Nov consecutively.

        • thanks, yeah I found one towards end of November :)

    • +1

These days Bali makes a very good transit onward point. There's cheap flights to most places in South East Asia.. quite a big change from a decade or so ago. If you're a scuba diver.. there's a lot of the best spots in the world within fairly easy reach (Raja Ampat, Komodo, Bunaken, Sipadan, etc)

Bali is a big place too.. avoid the Seminyak/Kuta/Ubud areas jam packed with foreigners and security wouldn't really be an issue

      • +1

        Thanks for the tips!

Unfortunately for me I've been to almost all countries in SE Asia so the available international onward connections are getting better but no longer "novel". If they had a cheap connection to Myanmar or Laos from Bali it would be useful but Singapore and Kuala Lumpur are still better connected in that regard.

I still hope to explore more of Indonesia and Malaysia though. I'm a little Asia'd out thanks to so many Cebu Pacific deals. Ryanair had the same effect on Europe for me - sometimes it's good to switch continents :)

  • Thanks OP. Bought for two Melb to DPS return $562 end of Oct with flatbeds. Awesome!

  • I am a loyalty program member. I couldn't find any date from Syd in Oct and Nov 2016 with this price.

      • Thanks. I just checked but I am not getting that price. It is $1165 for one person departing Syd-Bali DPS on 6th Nov (return on 13th Nov)

        • +2

Ozbargain flight deal of the year (to date). Thanks OP.

  • Guys - Flatbeds avail. only on D7 flights.
If you hover the ? sign it says that flatbed is on D7 flight only but MEL-DPS is on XT, so I don't think it's gonna be Flatbed ;(

    • +1

Definitely flatbeds on XT flights too as they use the same aircraft and configuration as the D7 flights. Also if you continue on to seat selection you'll see the flatbeds up for selection.

  • Thanks OP, just booked.Still availability MEL to DPS 22 -24/10/16 fro 2 adults and 2 children at 10.05pm.

  • Any recommendations for hotel in Bali for family of 4 ( two adults and 2 kids under 4yrs)?

    • Hard rock hotel

  • Argh

Flight from DPS to Manila and/or Bangkok are often not direct. Pity it's not more of a hub.

I can't find any similarly good flat bed deals on flights to Manila or Bangkok from Sydney.

    • Check out cebu pacific, about a year ago i got 2x adults 1x child for less then $1300 return syd-mnl including bags and meals and i missed the real cheap seats. new planes polite and professional crew what you would expect from the phillipines.

      • Yeah I love Cebu Pacific

Have flown twice with them Syd-Manila, plus many more internally in PI.

        Cheap and cheerful.

They don't have flatbeds though - I was hoping to flatbed it all the way to Manila on the cheap, but that's not going to happen.

  • Op this is a great deal.

Did the email you get specifically say the best deals were to Bali, or did it mention other destinations?

  • Booked return in dec for $574 for 2 people!! Thank you

  • +1

Weather wise Oct-March is Rainy season.

On flights 7th Nov and 14th Nov with the missus and an infant. Apologies in advance for the crying baby. :D

  • +1

    Brilliant. Family of 4. MEL - DPS Return. $762. 18/NOV - 26/NOV.

Seems to be a lot of infants in the Premium Cabin already. Anyone know how that goes from a seating aspect? (Number of Oxy Masks per seat group.) We have twins, and fear we may have to sit across the isle on the day.

    • +1

How old are the twins? Do they have their own seat? If they do, then they will have their own mask. If you are relying on the bassinet seats (which I presume you have selected when you selected your seat), there should be an extra mask for the bassinet? Given the 2 - 2 - 2 configuration, you will be seated either across the aisle or behind one another (which again you would selected the seats when booking??)

      • They will be ~18 months by November. Lap seats only. They'll be too big for the bassinet seats, but these had already been pre-selected by other passengers. Only available seats was all of Row 2 so I selected 2A,2C at booking.

I pinged AirAsia webchat, but they weren't really sure until pressed. Then said 1 infant per row. When pressed further they said let Flight Crew deal with it on the day. Not too helpful.

        • Well their webchat may need to review their info as there are 2 bassinet seats in that front row…so there can be 2 infants in one row. I would not hold out for the flight crew to know more…when we flew with them last year, they were pleasant to deal with but not very helpful.

I am sure that there would be additional masks as parents travelling with infants do not always get the bassinet row.

I guess what you can do when you get on board is to see if the people in front of you are prepared to swap seats with you??

    • When we traveled with our baby, we were told there is a limit of infants allowed on the flight because of the limited masks and seat belts. No more infants can be booked after a certain number, so there should be enough for all the babies.

  • +2

For the people wondering if this will be honoured, my bet is that it will be. About 2 years ago, AirAsia sold flights to KL in their "Flat Beds" for $0 + taxes return, and they honoured the tickets for me, as well as everybody else that managed to book.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/135395

It was easily the best deal of 2014, and a pretty good experience for a low cost airline.
To those of you who have booked, I hope you enjoy it!

  • trying to find dates in December for 2 adults 2 child from Sydney

  • Prices seem to have gone up unfortunately.

Thanks OP for this post…looks like s few of us managed to get tickets at a good price 😀

  • Anyone managed to score the cheap fares this morning (Monday) ?

    • Nope - check the flights we had and the prices had gone up unfortunately.

  • +1

Saw them last night but thought I'd think it over and sleep on it… Big mistake. Now I'm sad

    • +1

Can't find any in October, November, Deccember or January…

    • did the same. was restless sleep from being on my mind. poop

  • +1

Just by way of info, when we were in DPS in Oct last year, there was no dedicated check in counter for Premium passengers and it was one line for everyone. There was a dedicate check in counter for red carpet passengers only. As we had purchased this option, we did not have to join the main line so I guess if you want to fast track your way through the process, this is your only option. Things may have changed since then so this info may be incorrect but in case it has not, you may want to consider purchasing the red carpet option which fast tracks you through immigration and gets you lounge access for a couple of hours. It does not however give you priority boarding (though they say it does)….but given you are in a smaller cabin, you can probably wait for the rush to board before you board.

  • QQ, can l change the date without paying any fee for this type of tic?

    • Don't worry, found it myself!

  • on a side note - has anyone found anything else good in the rest of the BIG sale?

I'm already going to Bali in 2 months so planning to use my flatbed trip in January next year as a segway so on the hunt for ideas…

    • Return to KL for under $300 and more. No time to post now.

      • I saw the KL flights but I don't think it's WOW price's…maybe I'm spoilt by cheaper fares in the past.

        • We've been spoilt so I understand.

In AUD, prices to KL are actually around 5% more than the standard sales from 3 years ago (but good considering our lower currency). Unless a new carrier or destination comes along I don't know if we'll see sub-$200 return deals from Sydney to Asia as often anymore :(

The best thing about this sale are the connected destinations are also on sale. E.g. SYD to Yangon return for $390.50 without booking separately and risking missed connections. Shame the dates are so far away.

  • Wow allot of bad air asia story's, i have flown with them internally in thailand and Philippines, cant remember the thai flight really so i guess it was ok but the phillo flights were great, Filipino crew safe plane etc, i think they actually brought out a local carrier and rebranded them in Philippines.

    • yeah cebu pacific was ok when i got the $146 return flights to phils last year :)

  • I can't book it, it says very cheap like 50,000 points and around 145AU$ for tax but when proceed booking, it says not enough points. If I book without log in as member, its expensive.

How can you guy get the deal ?

  • Just had a quick look at the mega sale, looks like someone loaded economy sale fares in as the premium flat bed sale fare yesterday, hence the amazing bargain. Nice find and thanks again OP!! All corrected today so sorry if you missed out.

  • -3

I can't get flatbed return for $298. They are from $699. Economy exSydney for $159. Have AirAsia removed the special?

    • Yes…back to normal pricing unfortunately :-(
