    Just some thoughts on this.

Australia's most trusted brand has a hose called Iconic, which is made in Europe.
    Ironic, maybe.

What is the normal selling price of this hose ?
With no expiry date, price shown must be normal price.
Why do you think it is a bargain.

Web site shows price of $9.99 at CHULLORA store (as a clearance price)

Will Masters match their own pricing ?

    • +3

Compared to this it is a Bargain

      • +2

Considering pope is a tried and tested hose brand and hills has just started selling them I don't think it's a clear cut better bargain

        • +4

20% cheaper for the same quality and specs. I'd say that's a bargain.

        • @HunterOfBargains20: don't know about you, but a cheap hose is a nightmare to use. Wouldn't know if it were the same quality until you actually feel how thick/unlikely it is to kink

        • @HunterOfBargains20:

          same quality

that would be the point i'm debating :P

        • +2

@I like bacon: this is closer to a mid range hose than a cheap hose, we also sell cheap hoses and trust me this is much better quality

        • @HunterOfBargains20:
Please improve ozbargain game, I have woollies shares that have to perform!

        • -1

@Calvin27: I'm doing the best with what I have to work with. But have a look at our latest catalogue there are lots of good offers like 40% off lighting, 25% off sheds, 50% off Triton Drill Packs plus more

        • @HunterOfBargains20:

I meant comparing into the other hose. Ozbargained aren't your average mum and dad consumer that will buy whatever is marketed to them.

        • +5

@Calvin27: I guess it's hard to convince people who haven't seen both hoses, but as someone who has it's a no brainer for me

      • The other offer has a 5 year longer warranty.

      • FYI

That Pope hose is "Made to Toro Australia Pty Ltd's specification in Taiwan"

Pope is a Registered Trademark of Toro Australia Pty Ltd

      • The Pope one has fixed/clamped fittings so you don't have the hose coming off and water getting everywhere like what happens with the manually tightened fittings though.

        • Buy the hoselink fittings, never burst off, ever!

    • Of course they will….why not they're losing $100's M anyway.
Maybe if Bunnies have the brand they'll price beat it

    • I bought the Premium which is the next model up from one of these a few weeks back and it had a non-kink rating of 8/10. Having said that, it kinks pretty easily! Not doing anything odd. Just rolled it up and then walk around the garden and as i pull more hose it kinks every meter or 2 rather than unravel. So i would suggest these would be even worse!

    Australia's most trusted brand

More trusted than the POPE for some reason.

    • What does pope Francis think about hose equality?

  • You misquoted the award… the award for Hills is actually the Readers Digest Australia Most Trusted Brand in the Iconic category. This is a long way from Australia's most trusted brand.
Given Commonwealth Bank was highly competitive in the banks category, I'm not sure how much weight should be given to the validity of the award!

Probably more appropriate would be to look at the most trusted brand in the Gardening equipment category when looking for a garden hose. Given there's 46 categories, it feels more like another Mickey-mouse award to give consumers the impression of quality!

If you're looking for the most trusted brand according to Reader's Digest, then you'll find it is Dettol. Hills didn't crack it for the top 10…

Hi Brad, I tried to link through to more detail but get your point, have updated the post

  • +2

    5 year warranty against defects

Or until Masters closes down, whichever occurs soonest.

    • +1

If it's anything like the Pope garden equipment (i.e. line trimmers etc.) warranty, then speaking from personal experience you will call them and be directed back to the retailer for a replacement or refund.
      Not worth the hassle.

      • -1

Well thats not allowed under the Trade Practices Act.

        • +1

The TPA was replaced by the ACL which places the onus on the retailer.
Who still try to make you go to the distributor or maker.

        • @rayski57:

If there's no retailer though, then the distributor has no option.

        • @Putnum: Ultimately, the importer/Manufacturer/Distributor back the factory warranty and can end up being your only recourse.

  • I thought these hoses used to be made on australia?

  • I understand Hills Industries, as it was known, sold off the rights to the Hills Hoist, and the Hills brand to Masters

Most trusted iconic brand, sells off the icon???? It's now as Iconic as Masters.

Sadly, not the company it was.

Also explains why you will not now find Hills products in Bunnings.

    Way to go Team OZ!

No, not quite right. They licensed the Hills Heritage brand to Woolworths, of which Masters is a part. Hills still owns the brand. The Hills Heritage brand is essentially all the home hardware products like clotheslines, clothes pegs, sprayers and other garden products. Once Masters is gone, Woolworths continues to license the brand, as far as I know. It's all on the asx website.

      • +1

Thank you so much for the clarification.

So the Woolworths group has the 'rights' to the 'iconic' Hills Hoist, for 5(?)years.Within 12 months Woolworths will no longer have a major Hardware outlet. Other than BigW.

And the relationship with the major hardware retailer is burnt.

Are Hills still making the Hoist etc. or are Woolworths?

And thank you also for the reference to the ASX site.

Although I do have problems with seeing beyond the chart of just how the Hills share price is doing.

  • Hills is as Australian as the Pope

  • Should we run for the hills?

  • Most important factor for me with garden hoses is whether the connection points are permanently fixed to the hose. Pope one listed recently is fixed but as far as I can see this hills brand is not. If you forget the tap on and go somewhere such as holiday, the connection points would pop out or leak resulting in a higher water bill. This happened to me before and I paid a couple of hundred dollars extra in water bill. I am now exclusively using these perma fit ones I got from Coles on special and havent had any problems ever since.

    • Get some hoselink fittings. They never burst off.

  • Go to Bunnings and get the better hose like Toro's Velocity. Metal connectors and Kink resistance 10/10. I have 2 of those and made my life easier when I water the garden without a hassle.

    http://www.bunnings.com.au/toro-12mm-x-15m-velocity-garden-h…

Don't buy and try the cheap hoses from Masters.

  • is this a Everyday price or just promotion/ special price?
