I don't recommend getting this laptop. The battery life is poor and there is an issue with heat. THere are numerous reviews of this laptop.
I was thinking about buying it last year, but reconsidered.

  • 1,366 x 768p who uses that shit

oh wait… wat… that's more res that i can handle!

    • That was quite opposite of what one usually sees with these cheaper, higher spec laptops. 13.3" 3200 X 1800 is pretty full-on!

  • That's a ridiculously good price! I purchased last week for $1,199 and thought it was a steal! And one week later this bloody deal comes along….sigh. Awesome laptop in my opinion by the way.

    • Above poster said battery isn't good? True?

      • +1

Battery isn't great but for this price….who cares!!! You won't find any better 2 in 1 at this price, no way in hell!

      • I've been using one for about 8 months now and get over +8 hours out off a full charge - more in airplane mode. As for the 3200 X 1800 display it's amazing and excels with 4k videos but because it's dpi is so high a few programs will display with tiny buttons and text. Easy to fix with 32bit or 64bit exe.manifest files depending on the software affected. (Adobe - you know you could have fixed this for those still using CS versions)

    • Fantastic find OP, just got one. The code still works!

      • Please see my comments below. If you ordered silver, your order may be cancelled. Worth giving them a call to confirm, in case they cancel after this offer ends.

        • Hi mate, I ordered Orange - and that's the only option for the 256GB one currently on their website.

  • tempting but saving up for Thinkpad x1 Tablet instead… hoping for some discounts on that one soon (yea I know, keep on dreaming…)

  • This price is unbelievable for such a good ultrabook!

  • I want to buy this for the almost 4K screen alone. That is uncanny for a laptop, when most on the market today aren't even 1080p.

    • above 1080p is standard for a high spec machine

  • Is this one better or the previous Yoga's deal that had 100+ votes? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/239021

    • Different beast, the Yoga 3 is an ultra-book with a low power M series CPU. The Yoga 460 is more along the lines of a standard laptop with a midrange CPU, so it's bigger and heavier than the Yoga 3 and only has a 1080p screen.

      • Does it mean this one is less powerful, eg not suitable to play games or multi tasking?

        • Correct. The Yoga Pro 3 has an older low power CPU with the HD5300 graphics driving a 3200x1800 display. The Yoga 460 has a new skylake CPU with the much better HD520 GPU driving a much lower 1920x1080 display.

The Yoga Pro 3 would be awful for gaming.

        • @rancho: What about work? The yoga 3 seams better value. Uses excel, word, chrome and calculator :D

I already bought the Thinkpad yoga 460. Thinking if I should return it and get this?

  • Still deciding between this or the Inspiron I3 7000 with the following specs:
    - 6th Generation Intel® Core™ i5 Processor
    - 8GB Memory
    - 256GB Solid State Drive
    - 13.3-inch FHD (1920 x 1080)

Assuming the price is similar, which is better for travelling?

Lenovo QHD vs Inspiron i5 Skylake. Lenovo on Core M
Lenovo 1.19kg vs Inspiron 1.6 (heavier)

    Any thoughts?

    • +1

For travelling your concerns should be weight and battery time. What you should be considering is how do you intend to use the device - heavy graphics requirements, high end program usage, or just general web browsing and light program usage.

For the Yoga 3 Pro I haven't had any problems with using any of the Adobe CS products and MS Office products. But if I want to do HD video editing, large 3D graphic work or play a graphics intensive game, I'll use a desktop built for that capability. Although I still use the Yoga 3 Pro via remote desktop through a VPN. The only thing I haven't tested the Yoga 3 Pro out on is with using multiple VM.

For general usage and moderate heavy workload the Yoga 3 Pro would probably be better for travelling while the Inspiron has better hardware specs. Now would you need those specs and if so would they be enough - just my thoughts.

      • does it get hot and noisy for above general usage and moderate heavy workload?

      • Thanks for this response. Really helpful, appreciate it

During my travels, I would probably edit "home videos" or videos we take on the trip. No 3D or graphics work as such and I dont really game.

Will use Lightroom quite a bit to edit photos and my chrome browser use normally has includes a ton of tabs open. I'm sure the Yoga can or should be able to handle this.

I just played with on at a local JBhifi and I do like the look of the Yoga as compared the Inspiron. I've very light as well and it seems that the trackpad is usable now. I used a Yoga 2 for work previously and I couldn't use the trackpad at all.

What's your experience with battery life?

        • does it get hot and noisy for above general usage and moderate heavy workload?

I also had a Yoga 2 Pro i7 before this one and it was noisy and did get rather warm. Hence why Lenovo went with the M-5Y71 processor - low operating freq but can turbo when required, don't need vents for cooling so it can be made slimmer, but it's only a dual core which is not a real problem for moderate multitasking. It does still have a fan and if you're in a quiet room you might hear a faint noise if it comes on but with the TV on or music playing I don't notice it. As for heat, I only notice it on the bottom right top corner if I'm charging it while it's working hard and it's on my lap. Nothing uncomfortable though.

…seems that the trackpad is usable now. …

Ahh a very pertinent point to make here. From memory there are two different touchpads types. I can't remember if it is the hardware or the driver that is different. In any case I'm using the Synaptics Touchpad and their Win 10 driver and haven't had any issues with 2 finger taps, 2 finger swipes, 3 finger swipes, 2 finger zoom, 2 finger scrolling of pages, everything is smooth and responsive.

What's your experience with battery life?

As I mentioned earlier it's good but not great compared to similar devices. I can get +8 hours while doing mid level work and in airport mode with no peripherals connected it will last longer. I rarely charge the battery to 100% anyway and normally don't let it get below 20% charge. For general use it will last me most of the day before I need to charge it.

Overall for what you want this would be very good and you've already seen how versatile it is. It's a good price but pity it's not the 512GB SSD.

I would look into getting a 128Gb or 256GB micro SD card and then a mini SD adapter that fits the SD slot without sticking out (16mm depth from memory). There's plenty around for the MacBook Pro Retina but I can't find one for a Yoga 3 Pro here in Australia. Thought I had one at The Mini Drive that was made for the Yoga 2 & 3 but they discontinued that model after taking my money and stating they posted it and it never arrived (I did get a refund in the end).

        • @2getted: thanks…decisions, decisions…

        • @dtrinh:
I sympathise. I spent a long, long time reading reviews, watching videos, trying out different devices in the stores before I decided. In the end it was the price I paid that swayed me and luckily it worked out.

It has come down to usage. Compared to other devices with detachable keyboards, the Yoga 3 Pro is a good laptop/ultrabook that can be used as a tablet. As I mainly use the device in laptop mode I'm glad I got it.

        • @dtrinh:

          I hear ya!

  • Orange or Silver? I'm liking the Orange

  • Just a note, this laptop has been phased out in the US market (no longer available on US Lenovo site) so I imagine the same will be happening here. Not sure if that should be a consideration?

  • Bought it yesterday. It was quite painful buying it. Partly due to me trying to use a Parcel Lockers address. They also had issues with Paypal and their site was so slowwwww.

Ended up getting the Orange one for $999. Damn good price for a convertible. Perhaps I should stop reading reviews on the Core M. Not a lot of fans it seems? @2getted, your review, which is quite helpful btw, seems very favorable. Have you had any issues thus far.

I did say video edit but reality is I probably would use my i7 desktop do this. And even if I use this for video editing, it will be minimal or basic.

I will use Lightroom quite a bit for photos. Hope this will cope with it

Will watch HD and 4k videos too. Gather this would cope with it too

On choices, there is a silver and champagne 512gb version for $200 more. No orange tho. With the code, it ends up costing $1199. Worth it?

    • +1

Perhaps I should stop reading reviews on the Core M…

I think the term used here is cognitive dissonance but to be specific no I haven't had any problems with the CPU and I use some heavy programs. For example I can have Photoshop and Illustrator open at the same time working on designs with multiple web pages open. I also have no problems using Premiere Pro and Media Encoder and while it does do HD video editing and handles 3D graphics you're limited by the Intel graphics and will notice it. You can't beat an external graphics card for this type of work on multiple monitors.

…if I use this for video editing, it will be minimal or basic…
I will use Lightroom quite a bit for photos. Hope this will cope with it
Will watch HD and 4k videos too. Gather this would cope with it too

You shouldn't have any problems with normal video editing and Lightroom will be fine. No problems with watching HD & 4k videos as well. If you haven't used this screen resolution before, you will be impressed with any 4k video you watch.

As I mentioned I was using an i7 Yoga 2 Pro before and I had some trepidation about 'upgrading' to the Yoga 3 Pro and the only reason I bought it was the cheap price I was offered - from memory less than $800 for the 512GB Silver model and that was last year. If I didn't like it I was just going to sell it and even expected to make a profit but thankfully it has coped well with everything I do so I got lucky. The only complaint I have is with the keyboard layout. I have no idea why the idiots at Lenovo removed the function keys, changed where the tilde key is and shrunk the backspace key. Everything is still available but you need to use the Fn key for access.

Now the new Yoga 900 is very, very nice. Same shell design (apparently the hinge has had some work done on it) but fixes the keyboard layout issues, has the latest i7 Skylake CPU with the integrated Intel HD 520 chip for much better graphics, a bigger 66Wh battery, and up to 16GB of RAMM. But I can't justify $2500+ for the i7 512GB model with 16GB of memory especially since the Yoga 3 Pro copes with everything I do - but it would be sooo nice.

    • Thanks for posting this comment, and thanks to the OP for posting the deal. I had assumed it was expired and had not tried. I have now been able to help out two people who really needed this. The mouse for $1 is great to sweeten the deal even further.

I have removed the expiry on this deal.

  • Thanks for posting the deal, I pulled the trigger last night and went for the 512GB version for $1199 and oh yeah and the $1 mouse - a total bargain.
Not worried about the mixed reviews either as I reckon its all relative. It's a $2400 ultralaptop for $1200 and it looks great. Thanks OP

  • How long did it take for these to arrive? I recall chatting to sales before and they could source it from Sydney rather than from overseas (2 days to ship rather than 6 or so).

I ended cancelling my order before it got processed. The mouse for $1 is awesome!

    • Why did you cancel your order mate?

      • I was able to get a Dell XPS 13 i7 QHD for just slightly over 1k. Its not new but it was on like new condition.

        • Wow you preferred a second hand one for over $1k as opposed to a brand new Yoga 3? XPS must be really something then, sorry I dont know much about ultra books.

        • @T D:

Yep, always wanted the XPS, they normally just under $2k for the spec that I have. XPS is the best one out there. And this one is an i7, not an M.

  • For info, a friend of mine had ordered silver, and was phoned to be told it was out of stock. She then had to put in a new order for an orange one. Just be aware of that.

  • Code still works if you log onto the small business website option

    • What URL? Can update the URL and remove the expiry, if it still works.

      • I spoke to Lenovo customer service number and they advised that if you buy through the Small Business website then code will still work.
        http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/small-business/

        • Did you try it? Because if I click through to tablets -> convertibles, and choose the same model, it does not work. Applying the code results in "Coupon code is not valid for the current cart. Please input a valid one."
          Direct link was http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/yoga/yoga-3/Lenovo-Yoga…

        • Hi mate, I applied code to my cart 15 mins ago and it still shows valid with the discount. I already bought one so was only testing it.

        • @T D: no luck for me also…discount code does NOT stick…base unit still comes up with $1,699

        • Give Lenovo a call if you definitely want it. They might be able to overide the price and reduce it to $999. You may miss out on the $1 mouse though which is a pretty good bonus.

  • Laptop was delivered on Wednesday which isn't bad considering i paid for it last week.
More then happy with it so far.
Originally purchased for my girlfriend's mum who wanted an every day laptop that wouldn't give her any issues browsing the web and doing some office work.
I'm actually that impressed by the design i'm tempted to buy one for myself but have not need.

For an every day user who doesn't play games but want the benefit of a tablet i couldn't be more then happy.

Battery life isn't too bad, upgraded to the latest version of windows and removed all third party software and didn't have to charge again until the next day.

Laptop did start to lag a little when Windows was installing an upgrade along side anti virus being installed but wasn't anything to be concerned about.

Really happy with the purchase and happy to answer any questions.
