yes but you have to add in the evil aussie customs tax since it is over $1000
and when harvey norman rules it will be all items over $10 get taxed online

    • Aren't shipping costs excluded from the $1000?

      • +1

        Nope, it's included.

        • whats the total real cost is it just 10% of this total or is there another processing fee

        • @thelastnoob:
10% for GST + 5% customs duty.. and probably also GST on that.

          So somewhere 15-16% on top.

Sadly, this is still probably half price compared to buying in Australia.

(All from memory, should be ballpark though)

        • I was almost certain if the goods are under the AUD $1000 threshold, then freight/shipping/postage is NOT included, even if the shipping costs bring it above 1000.

If the goods are $1000+, then the shipping costs are included and you pay GST on the total inc. shipping.

        • @KentT:

Laptop no duty, just GST if total value including shipping is over AUD1000.

        • @rend2688:
          That's correct.

If the item cost (excl.shipping) is under $1000 - no other fees.

(unless the customs agent thinks it's been deliberately undervalued.)

        • @jpl:
"Laptop no duty, just GST if total value including shipping is over AUD1000"

          Laptops excluded, good to know.

There might also be a customs fee of $50 or so - but that might be excluded.

And I'm pretty the $1000 limit is for the value, not the price you paid. So the customs agent could say it's worth more - you have to pay. That's probably mostly to stop rules being skirted with items marked as "gift" or $100 laptops with $1000 freight.

        • +1

          @KentT:
          Just summing up…

THIS BARGAIN SHOULD BE FINE - NO DUTY, NO TARRIFF, NO GST.

        • @KentT:

$50 yes, it is for the clearance fee, paid to the clearing agent, most like will be the freight company. Some company like DHL when acting as your clearance agent, will be around $80-$100.

Yes, AUD1000 is the value. If you have invoice proof, credit card payment proof, and seller website proof, you can fight this if the "no so smart" clearance agent thinks that it is suppose to be AUD2500 because locally it is.

So if you have a status "clearance event" in your tracking stuck for a while, call up the freight company and ask for documentation, and protest if it is wrong.

        • @rend2688: I'd be surprised if that was the case at it leaves the door open to charge $1 for something and $1000+ shipping.

        • @KentT:

          Per the ATO:

The value of taxable importation is the sum of:

the customs value of the goods
          any customs duty payable
the amount paid or payable to transport the goods to their place of consignment in Australia
the insurance cost for that transport
          any wine tax payable.

Therefore GST would be applicable as the shipping costs are included in the taxable importation cost.

  • I want this as it has 99.8% Adobe RGB Higher than all apple for colour accuracy and the best 4k screen in an ultrabook in the world
In Australia, the only 4K screen model available comes with a 512GB solid-state drive for AU$2,799.
there's also a Full HD and Intel Core i5-powered version of the Radius 12 that could be had for AU$2,399

  • ooh I just saw this on Slick Deals too. Handy, as I'll be in the U.S next week. Very tempted - any opinions? 4K on a 12.5" screen seems like a bit of overkill…

    • +1

I'm guessing your battery life will be like 3 or 4 hours.

      • This is around $500 cheaper than the HP deal you posted cDNA. Trading off the 512 SSD with the UHD screen they seem pretty similar. The HP offers an extra inch but the Toshiba can detach as a 2-1 (not just slate/tablet mode). Same wireless card, integrated graphics, processor etc. etc. What the premium comes down to (in my mind) is build quality and battery life.

I would like the extra battery life but find anything over 3:30 hours of web browsing adaquete, so it isn't an issue to me but do you believe that's the main reason so many would opt for the HP deal over this? Also the off-centre trackpad to the left has complaints (it could be an advantage if you are left-handed I guess) so that to me comes as a negative as well under the chassis build quality/design. Is $500-600 more worth it for those factors? What would you consider when deciding between the two?

I've ordered this model, if I don't like it after a couple of weeks I'll list it on gumtree and hopefully sell it for a slight loss (I'm thinking it will be snapped up if I offer it for less than $1000). Interested to hear your opinion! The HP ultras are popular but like the MS surface product line I can't find value in them. Your deal is very good for the brand but in my eyes a $16XX price point brings it more in line with what the computer offers based on specifications, the fact it was priced in the mid $25XX I find insane!

I don't have a large steam collection and have more console games on the XB1 at the moment so bought this as a stop-gap (essentially) until VR ready designed PCs hit the mainstream. And if you don't require a dedicated GFX card for gaming these computers seem ideal. Only other negative is the lack of quad-core CPU but I can only imagine the battery life sap and heat they would generate given the form factor of these units.

        • Just letting you know you're comparing a US priced laptop with a laptop from an AU site. Yes, the spectre is a far better built laptop and it has a larger battery. It also has a premium design (yes, looks do matter). If you think 3.5 hours of battery life is adequate, then you really don't know the needs of an average consumer. One of the reasons people go for Apple computers is because they have a long battery life. 4k on a 12.5" is just silly. Good luck with windows scaling.

I would say more people are comfortable with buying locally from a large manufacturer than some ebay seller overseas. You're going to be charged GST on this notebook if it's over $1000, so factor that in.

I don't own a HP Spectre, so I really don't care if you decide it's not for you. I just saw a bargain and thought I should share it.

        • @cDNA: Less than 100 grams weight difference (between the models), I wonder how they fit the high capacity battery in. I'm suspecting a lot of battery drain is due to this Toshiba's screen. I think the reason Macs are so popular is more around the cult of personality and power of the brand rather than any practical competitive advantage. Although it must be said MacBooks generally have far superior battery life than other PCs. My main concern buying this is the form factor but the construction seems to be solid from reports, just the positioning of the touchpad and size of the keyboard are my main concerns.

Over the last fifteen years I've owned many different laptops and my favourite was the top specced VAIOs from around 2003-2004. I found them to be much superior to anything else around at the time, but maybe that indicates just how out of alignment I am with the average consumer. The laptop itself isn't over $1,000 but including shipping it is (which has brought about the extended discussion seen in the comments).

I'm no expert myself but it would be logical if the tax was applied inclusive of shipping (making it tax eligible) but considering the unit itself doesn't cost over that threshold should the tax just be charged on the postal/transport services domestic? (which if you allocated anything more than 40% of costs to would still not cross the $1000 threshold in total - $210 is the shipping cost, overall the cost is $1080 approx).

        • *apologies it is hinged not detachable. I thought 2-in-1s didnt include these PCs. I wouldn't have purchased it tbh if I knew that was the case. Thought I would be able to detach the screen but there's no way I'm using something so thick and heavy as a tablet! I thought it would be a performance quality version of the Asus transformer. Ah well. May as well buy a Dell XPS.

        • @cDNA: definitely with these ultralights a trade off with resolution and battery life. I would prefer the HD screen of the spectre and almost three times the battery life compared with a higher resolution, gorgeous screen. From 13 inches down for my prefs are UHD not worth the power consumption, but other people have different priorities. Also, how does win10 handle scaling at that size screen?

        • @entropysbane:

AT 1080p there's no real issues.

    • OK, I just pulled the trigger. I also used a 10% off eBay voucher that popped up on my account, and combined with pick-up in the U.S, and payment via 28 Degrees (via PayPal) as well as cash rewards (which didn't appear to pick up the entire amount?) - I'm getting this for less than $790 AUD

      • Nice..

Seems everyone is lucky with the 10% voucher..

        Sadly didn't get one :(

        • If you are really desperate, consider making a new ebay account. My regular account didn't get anything even after buying heaps but my less used account got a 10% coupon from a $1 purchase instantly then another coupon when I bought the item that I wanted. I would give it to you but it's linked to the account.

        • @ChillBro:

Thanks for the idea.. I tried and purchased new items on another account but no dice..

  • For the price, performance, screen quality and weight this actually beats Surface Pro 4, Macbook Retina 13, Dell Xps 13, Hp Spectre
The battery life is lower but I am not interested in paying hundreds more for that to end up with a lower res and color inaccurate screen
I am convinced this is the best ultrabook bargain in the world

    • The Macbook is a mac - You either want that or you don't.

The Surface Pro 4 has the pressure sensitive stylus - and it feels different enough to not warrant direct comparison to ultrabooks.

Compared with anything else, this seems like a no-brainer. Buying local for $1000 you wouldn't even get a 1080p screen, let alone an i7 inside.

  • How long would it take to clear customs GST etc etc reach Australia? Don't want to wait five + weeks…

    • +1

      Delivery is UPS Worldwide Express
Est. delivery between Wed. 30 Mar. - Thu. 31 Mar.
I don't think customs will have it for too long unless they boot it up and see how good the screen really is

    • Normally items when shipped with the top 4, they do have something called "pre clearance". Before the item arrives, the clearance event already in process. During that time, they should know how much to be paid. Sometime they will call while the package is still in transit.

If you don't get a call, keep a close eye with the tracking, as soon as it shows "arrived Sydney", follow up closely with the freight company, should be able to get it in about 1 day if your package is not deemed "suspicious"

DHL and FEDEX are very crappy when come to clearing packages. Keep calling them until you get your package.

      • So it is $887 for the computer but shipping takes it over 1000. Do you work with customs, you seem very knowledgable. Any reason why the GST includes shipping? If you divide the shipping/logistics cost equally between overseas and Australia (the service component of the tax) it will fall under the $1000 threshold? I'm very confused. Thankyou. I live in metro Sydney does that effect the chance of a clearance event occurring? How much would you expect we will pay extra?

        • Refer to ATO website:

The value of taxable importation is the sum of:

the customs value of the goods
          any customs duty payable
the amount paid or payable to transport the goods to their place of consignment in Australia
the insurance cost for that transport
          any wine tax payable.

        • @99bicycles: "the amount paid or payable to transport the goods to their place of consignment in Australia" now this is interesting because some of that $210 shipping fee (there is no insurance component) may be a "seller premium" on postage and nothing to do with the actual cost to ship the 1.34kg 11.8 inch computer here (obviously the cubic weight and post will include dimensions of the box but it's not a large computer). So if the actual shipping cost the seller pays is <130 AUD (or equiv in USD) then it shouldn't arise the attention of customs. Also the "place of consignment in Australia", I'm guessing that's the final destination because the transport of the consignment to the hub in Australia may be 60% of the shipping costs (by air or ship) with a domestic courier or AP costing the other 40% to deliver it the final leg (to doorstop). If that's the case then the taxable amount wouldn't exceed $1,000…

Will be interesting to see what happens! In any case it's clear overseas suppliers are ripping our retailers off, with zero margin cost prices being the standard retail sale price in places like America. Homegrown retailers are getting their customer base suckered away by online and greedy overseas suppliers are vacuuming up large profits from foolish customers who buy local (many getting the warm fuzzies that they are buying from an 'Aussie retailer' when the king sum goes back overseas to suppliers and manufacturers exploiting price ignorant Aussie customers). Guessing suppliers might sell these to retailers stateside for around $700 (with RRPs around 1100-1200) where here they probably cost them at around $1500-1600 (RRPs around $2500, although sale prices would go <2000).

Using online express USPS overseas calcs a 2 kilo package to AUS actual shipping costs around 80 USD for businesses which would put it right around the 1000 mark (if the contents in the consign note were valued at 870 AUD or equiv)

        • @juzz0: I stand corrected. I believe we won't get charged GST if just the product price is less than $1k AUD. I've ordered one :)

        • I don't work for custom. I just import lots of stuffs.

The AUD1000 is sometimes luck. There strictness depends on many unknown factors, especially marginal item like this one.

Your location does not affect the clearance event. It is depending on how hard working the courier's agent is. Normally pre clearance should occur for common items before the package arrived Sydney.

  • Op Please update its $1080.80 with PayPal (those scoundrels)

    from SlickDeals

    99-100% SRGB and Adobe RGB. 4k IPS. 2 in 1. 256GB M.2 SSD.

For certain people, it may be worthwhile, even with the lackluster battery life. Considering the display resolution and battery size, it's really not a surprise though. If you can get a solid 4 hours out of it, then consider getting a battery pack companion which can replace carrying around the stock power brick, since it functions as both an external 6-cell battery pack, but also can be used as a power brick. This could get you at least another 4 hours of battery life, up to maybe another 6 hours, I'm guessing. That's about Macbook Pro Retina 13 battery life territory.

If you absolutely need 4K w/ 99-100% SRGB and Adobe RGB for whatever reason and want something compact and relatively light, for on-the-go photo/video editing where color accuracy is important, or you must have the sharpest content playback for on-the-go, then this might fit the bill at a decent price.

  • Does anyone have advice? I just bought this then noticed Ebay is offering me a 10% off code.
I contacted seller to see if they will cancel this so I can reorder.
Did I gain a 10% off for spending so much or is ebay handing them out???

    • -1

Same! Is is unique? Does anyone want to buy it from me for $50? :P

      • -1

Wait for me to sell mine for $90 thats a massive $10 off!!!
I should ask you to post your code here to see if it is unique but that would be a nasty trick

        • -1

I wonder if it is. Have you found out if it is? I'm about to post a classified on here for $50 :P

        • @juzz0:
No idea but I am going to find out soon but if unique its probably locked to your account so you would have to sell to family or friend

        • @thelastnoob:
Code is unique and not universal

        • -2

@thelastnoob: Thanks for the heads up, if anyone wants to meet up and exchange details more than happy to use my account to ship to take advantage of the promotion. We would have to sign an agreement when we meet up and order it together, once I get the tracking number I would inform anybody who agrees, pick up the item and deliver it to them in Sydney (or there could be a way in eBay checkout to specify your address to forgo that hassle).

$50 is $50, a mod transferred a post I made in the 'find me a bargain' action to the wanted section of the classifieds.

        • @juzz0: Why are people negging this comment? Sorry some people immediately assume I'm some huckster wanting to take advantage. If two people mutually benefit why hate? Also the offer is long over now so it's inconsequential. I'm amazed that some people don't want to save money.

    • I bought mine twenty minutes ago "it's too late to cancel this order".

  • Really should have more upvotes. Selling here for around $2.5k (affordable lol). This deal "trumps" all others. http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2016/01/toshiba-satellite-radiu…

256 SSD is good enough, glad the U.S. version has the screen of the premium AU version.

    • Ebay has for $1600 but if we dont get the AU Tax we are $500+ better than ebays cheapest

  • How about warranty? Nowadays these things are fragile.

  • Which is better… this deal or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/240061 ?

The other deal is cheaper (especially after 8% cashrewards), and comes in Orange (or Silver)

    • Thing that strikes me first is the huge difference in performance between processors, then you have to look at the battery life difference. Ultimately it will come down to preference. I like the screen slightly better than the Yoga (colour accuracy as well as brightness over 300 nts) but then again you are paying a slight premium for this Toshiba. http://laptopmedia.com/review/toshiba-satellite-radius-12-re…

  • how do these go for warranty?

  • +1

I have the 512gb version (didn't pay $2799 though). I'm getting about 5-6hrs battery life with mine. The screen is amazing.
For the price of the 256gb model, I definitely recommend it.

    • How much did you pay for the 512? If I'm not being too rude, just wondering what the street price for that version was/is and whether you bought it online or from a bricks and mortar.

      • $2270 from HN, the model was originally a HN exclusive… Not sure if its opened up to the channel now.

    • What is your usage like to get 5-6 hours battery life?

      • Standard usuage, music, web surfing, emails, even edited some gopro footage.

  • +1

    CCNSMZDMQ116

    $30 off

    • Brings it down to $1003…. Just $3 off the magic 1000 mark!
Now if only the AUD can make some positive movements, about 0.3 cents worth.

    • Is that a unique code?

      • No. it is a pity only $30 off

    • X-Q116: We're sorry. Your PayPal account is registered in a country that isn't eligible for this discount.

      :(

  • I was able to get the 10% off voucher by buying a screen protector for my phone (less that $3), then used the code on the laptop.
Total came to USD 712.68 which is less than 1k AUD so hopefully no GST

    • Did it take long for the coupon to appear? I'm trying to do it now (bought a laptop sleeve, usb to ethernet adaptor etc)

      • The code showed up in my account straight after my purchase

        • I just bought something and didn't get a code. How did it show up?

        • @amts:
It will be in the vouchers section of your "my ebay" page. If there is no vouchers section that means you didnt get it. Could be targeted?

        • @aarons:

Got it. Didn't see any voucher page but the voucher came up it the laptop's listing.

        • @amts:

I also purchased a random screen protector but don't get a voucher showing up

        • @jbnz: I can only see it when I'm on a PC. Under the Buy It Now and Add To Cart panel, there is a sentence which says pay only AU $790.35 [Show me how]. Show me how is hyperlinked and when you click on it, the voucher shows up.

        • @amts: Same scenario here - can only see on desktop, and wording is also as @amts references. Interestingly, after I bought the laptop I got another 10% voucher valid until the 30th - designed to keep you purchasing on a bi-weekly basis?

"Your limited time offer: Get 10% off your next purchase of AU $75.00 or more; up to a maximum discount of AU $100.00 off"

  • Do they send laptop with Australian laptop charger or is it safe to use with an adapter or do we have to buy a power converter?

    • Don't know about this specific one, but every laptop I've bought in the past decade have had a separate power cord to a multi-voltage acdc adapter brick.

So you'll likely just have to scrounge up a spare figure8 / kettle / mickeymouse cord.

    • No, you'll have to go to Tosche Station and pick some up.

  • I have worked in imports before and all goods for tax evaluation excludes freight. This includes by air or by sea. Duty if payable is on the invoice price, converted to local currency and then calculated. Unless changes from the start of this year.

  • 1.3 kilograms. Shame about the small screen.i struggle with 14" screen

  • +1

If anyone is planning to buy this laptop I'd recommend buying a cheap item on eBay first then use the 10% voucher mentioned above to buy the laptop, I just bought an item for $8.50 and got the voucher, the details are:

Your limited time offer: Get 10% off your next purchase of AU $75.00 or more; up to a maximum discount of AU $100.00 off.
    Expires 29/03/16

Price will be around $945 AU delivered.

    • I have an unused code (only showed up after I purchased) but I'm thinking it's unique to the user ID (even though it's user submitted). PM me if you want it and I'll send it to you. Not sure whether it will work but maybe give it a shot during checkout. It's a 12 digit combination and it looks unique but maybe it is tied to User ID.

      • Not sure if you read my comment, but, I've already got a voucher. That's where I copied the info from. Thanks anyway.

  • Would anyone mind advising what items they ended up buying for the voucher? I've purchased 4 items now ranging from USD 0.75 to USD 7.79 and still nothing…..

  • Soo..

I bought a few items and still no 10% voucher =(

If I pay the $1050 does the GST get charged when the postage cost is what pushes it above $1k?

    • Did you see my post above? The voucher appears in the actual laptop listing and I could only see it on a PC.

      • +1

Yeah i looked, but nothing. :(

      • Yep and sadly I haven't got it :(

  • "03/26/2016 9:42 A.M. Your package is at the clearing agency awaiting final release"
    That was fast 😮
    Only about 24hours after ordering

    • Is that quote from the USPS site? I notice a lot of eBay sellers (especially big business who order prepaid packets) post tracking details for the item before they bother to send it out or register it with the postal service. I think it's so buyers think they ship them out immediately when in reality it could be the next business day or two (it being Easter not until next week). It irritates me because it creates an unrealistic expectation on other sellers. I'm an eBay seller and send items out before I update the item as sent. I have no negative feedback and post everything by the next business day but have about four out of five stars for communication and shipping time (4.1-4.2 which is poor relative to most other 100% sellers). HK and China are the worst culprits. Often you will buy something then five minutes later it is 'sent' with a tracking number only for tracking details to show up 5-7 days later on China Post website.

I also purchased this on Thursday and received a tracking number yesterday but it hasn't even showed up as registered with USPS depot, no number found in the system

      • Its from the UPS website.(not USPS)
        It now says
        "Botany, Australia 03/26/2016 4:04 P.M. Arrival Scan"

        • Mine also arrived at Botany 4:04pm

  • Bought phone covers. Received the code at the bottom of my ebay page …

Use the 10% code that brings the price under 1000

    Thanks op

    • Thanks got 10% coupon after trying a few times. The cheap phone case did the trick at the end. Now unsure if I really need this lappy. Probably not, but will end up buying it anyways…
