    nice try

    • +1

Some people on here are real fwits. Ok so this isn't a deal but how about instead of just saying 'nice try' to someone who is clearly just wanting to give something back to the site, maybe be a bit more constructive in your comment??

Also would be good to give people the benefit of the doubt to start with.

  • -6

    Why?

    • Coz its like willingly inviting spam into your physical mailbox

This is what i do with spam

      • -1

Back in the day, it used to be said that running torrents on your computer was like infecting it with AIDS.

Consider this to be the same for your letterbox.

      Why?
      It works

  • +11

Far out. I legitimately received these in the mail today. Put in a fake phone number that's what I did, I have no intentions of booking a holiday anytime soon. You guys are super sus! I don't work for them, I thought I found something good.

    • +2

sorry, the crowd here can be tough

      • +10

Tell me about it! I just signed up just to post about it (I used to hunt around for freebies online years ago) :/

        • your fit to be an ozbargainer, but the wrong deal to post

    • +2

Wrapping paper for someone who wanted a holiday for their bday could be a humouring idea

      • not if you paint over it!

    • I thought I found something good

Not much good comes out of the mailbox these days

  • +6

Next minute, free brochures at the tourist information centres!

    • +3

Well, there have been recent posts for free youtube content and iveiw/SBS on demand…not that far of a leap really

  • -2

You could just use the internet to research holidays like everyone else under 90 years old.

    • Some brochures, especially Globus, Cosmos, Intrepid, etc. are much more convenient to read in print.

      • Except when you remember you read something about somewhere and have no way to search for it. The wonders of computers hey.

        • It's called using a pen. Or if you really want to be hip, you could use a post-it note.

  • +4

Don't travel agents usually have a box of catalouges for free for anyone to take?

    • +2

Yes, hence this isn't a deal.

Besides, these catalogues 1) don't cost anything anyway, 2) would probably be sent out to you if you were so inclined for free, and 3) merely gives FC a means of gathering your personal details for their use and to onsell to other companies.

  • +1

Ordered a couple. Could be nice to read while on the loo.

    • +1

And very handy for wiping afterwards.

      • +1

        Needs to be 120gsm, minimum.

        • Not absorbent enough. It'll smear everywhere!

  • seems like a pretty useless waste of paper, and if you have no plans of a holiday why bother (plus if you do, the internet is much more useful, up to date and better for recommendations/reviews)

    • +13

I'm 59, some of us still enjoy a magazine and a cuppa on the verandah instead of sitting glued to a screen.

      • -8

so you would rather read a magazine that is 100% full of advertising? strange

        • +1

There's no prices in these magazines, it's not trying to sell me anything, it's showing me some lovely places to visit. It's not a magazine of flight prices.

        • @sarahellis: Should have titled it free magazines instead of brochures.

  • I just put in all false details and it completed so my neighbour will receive a brochure in the mail sometime next week lol

  • +1

    wow a free brochure!?!?

  • +1

Go to the library. The have shelves and shelves of travel books that you can read FOR FREE.

  • +1
    • Woah, awesome to see someone else using puu.sh!

  • +6

I can't believe people are still upvoting this "deal".

    • +5

Most people still up are not very sober…

      • Shhhhh… That includes us jv.

        • I'm not sober.

        • @KaptnKaos:

I only like their Marsanne. Haven't had one for a while now though.

        • @jv:

You use less bold when drunk apparently. Interesting

This doesn't mean your next comment has to be written bold btw ;)

        • +1

          @Spackbace:

You use less bold when drunk apparently.

          I've never noticed that before… Hic !!!

        • @jv:

Someone didn't like me pointing that out :(

        • @Spackbace:

          The bold police.

        • +1

          @jv:

Boldly going where no one has gone before?

I hope I'm not underlining their authority.

    • -1

Its what I like to call the free mentality.

I suppose this deal is better than Udemy crap that always get up voted to front with no scrutiny.

      • I suppose this deal is better than Udemy

        How is it better?

        • -2

This actually costs money to print and send.

Udemy course intrinsic value is $0, yet people think its being discounted to $0 when it was $0 to start with.

        • +2

          @GameChanger:

Udemy course intrinsic value is $0

Try creating your own course for posting on Udemy and paying yourself $0 per hour…

        • @jv: If you have to sell your product for free then you're not good enough. There is thousands of books out there that never get purchased. The same thinking applies to Udemy, if its good it will sell, otherwise most people make a loss (Hours wise).

And most people who post on Udemy are trying to make extra money on the sideline, only the very best can make that their full time job.

        • @GameChanger:

If you have to sell your product for free then you're not good enough

They're given them for free so people try them and give them some good reviews… It's called Marketing

If 'you're not good enough', you wouldn't give it for free and risk getting lots of bad reviews.

        • -2

@jv: Yes its marketing but its shit, I hope you support all those Udemy courses. Since you have all the time in the world.

        • @GameChanger:

I hope you support all those Udemy courses.

Only the good ones… The bad ones I don't finish and don't give them a rating…

Since you have all the time in the world.

I have as much time as anybody else here…

        • @jv: You're a very kind person, I never seen this side of you!

        • +1

          @GameChanger:

I never seen this side of you!

If you read my earlier comments above, you'd realise I'm not sober…

      • +2

        Cant agree more.
Those udermy courses give me the shits when i see them upvoted like crazy.
Probably on par with dick smith deals and how we can never find any stock!!!

    • It's a deal mainly because of the service, not the brochure itself.

  • +3

Thanks, OP, I ordered Asia, New Zealand, Cruise 2 and Queensland. We're due for a holiday, this will be a big help! :-)

  • +7

this isnt a bargain…. brochures are always free….not even a special promotion… you can even ask your bank or insurance company or furniture store or real estate agent to post you a "free brochure"….

    • It's a magazine not a brochure. OP titled it wrong. It is not a bad magazine either, great for coffee table.

  • Not a deal. What's next, signing up to Hare & Forbes for their machinery specials posted every few months?

    • Shh… Don't give people ideas to post

  • +1

    Cool free junk mail

  • +5

You can always walk into any travel agency and ask for any of their brochures for free. This is not a deal.

  • Weird that someone appreciates a few (presumably glossy) destination pics when they could just you know… use the internet to find more inspiring pics - but niche deals are okay.

But since it's just promotional material for a business that is given away for free anyway…not a deal

  • +3

I can't believe I haven't seen… What is the normal price for this?

  • You can usually get them for free from the outlets anyway. Not sure how thus is a good deal.

  • So I hear you can get posted a Bunning's catalogue now too….

  • +1

Thanks OP, The kids love this crap for craft. Personally I couldnt care less what junk gets sent to my letterbox since its near the bin anyway, and I always use fake names, emails, and phone numbers, so they can do what they like with the "personal information"

    • Except for your address, smarty pants

      • and as I said I could not care less what junk mail they send as it goes in the bin on my walk from the letterbox to the front door, my bin is conveniently located not far from the letterbox

Exactly how useful a fake name at my actual address is to them i have no idea nor do I care

        • I was going to say that surely the increase of junk mail is not a good thing, but then i remembered that even though i have a no junk mail sign above my letterbox, i still get crap in there.

    • +1

Eh to be fair, wikitavel is very light on pictures

  • Oh dear you can walk into any FlightCentre and take some brochures.. not a deal!!!

    • +2

That's not the same deal. You don't give your name address and phone number when you walk in. The real deal is having someone call you up and check on you. I signed my grandmother up.

      • Oh what a lovely Grandson you are!

        • If his grandma has the same condition as his handle suggests he has, she'll forget the brochures after a while.

  • always free no bargain

  • Free junk mail!

  • Thanks OP 👍🏻

  • +6

FYI, I just went to Aldi and they were giving away catalogues for next weeks specials. Seemed to be plenty in stock. Most people didn't realise they were free and were walking straight past them.

Be quick before Broden hoards them all and puts them on eBay.

  • +2

It is not a bad magazine. Some example

    • +1

Looks just like the airline magazines. Good for craft and blunt paper, I suppose

  • Free junk mail? No thanks.

  • +1

It amazes me that this 'deal' has 9 down votes and 12 reports yet the mods STILL haven't done anything about it. It should be removed.

It's so frustrating that things like this stay up while people trying to post genuine, legitimate bargains (that aren't free catalogues) get jumped on immediately. Really discourages me from trying at all.

    • Do ur bit, neg the deal.

This is clearly free all the time, can't be a deal.

      • +1

I agree - it's not a deal. I've reported the deal and am discussing it with the mods.

I didn't neg the deal because the voting guidelines say that this isn't a reason to neg a deal.

    • It also has 41 upvotes.

While this might not be for everyone, some people are interested. Plus it is delivered free to your door, so you don't have to go into a Flight Centre.

      • -1

Lots of people like the Coles Taste magazine too, which features lots of nice looking recipes and I can pick that up for free at any Coles supermarket. Should that be a deal too?!

        • If that what the community asks for (39 up votes excluding mine and the OP)

You reference the 9 down votes, but then acknowledge that this isn't reason to neg a deal (yes, I acknowledge you did mention the reports as well).

Either way, I put my order in, so I'm happy. Let's let the mods decide :)

  • How can you call advertising a deal? This shouldn't be on the front, plus flight centre can be a dodgy travel agent.

  • Doesn't sound bad, might order a few.

  • +2

So opt-in advertorial direct marketing is a bargain now.

    This site is going downhill.

Is having the Woolies catalogue delivered for FREE going to make it as a bargain next?
