    All comments thus far pointless

Good phone at a nice price.

32gb should have been base model. I hope the next model nexus doesn't come with only 16gb for base model.

    • +3

meh, 16 is enough for many people. And it's not like the existence of a 16GB model is in any way a bad thing for anyone else. If it brings the price down then so be it

    • Hi guys. Sorry for hijacking the top of the post, but I think it's important to note that as this code is not on the Cashrewards website, DWI may not pay commission for this purchase, and any other purchases where unique coupons are used. Receipt of a Cashrewards tracking email is not a guarantee of payment as DWI may reject the payment when they consolidate their sales.

Jase, best to ask the store prior to posting whether particular coupons are commissionable from this store. Thanks :)

  • Is this a good upgrade from a galaxy s4? So many phones around and so many different versions within models with different band support etc arh…

Hoping to spend $400ish, 32gb may be enough but 32 with at least sd card would be good, proper au band support and maybe better battery. Do I have any other options without going over $600? G4 maybe? but pretty sure it doesn't support all bands.

    • +5

This is definitely a great option, and this particular model has all the bands you need.

G4 is another good option. It has a slightly better camera, extra GB of RAM, and microSD, but the Nexus has USB-C and stock Android. The G4 does have all Aussie bands if you get the H815 or H815T.

      • Thanks for all the tips guys. As a yard stick I fill my 16gb in my s4 easily and i've got 10gb used on my sdcard. While I could live with 32gb right now without any real compromises if I keep the phone over a year I will definitely need to manage the space closer. I find it a bit crazy they don't include sdcard slots, either cost or space in the device I spose but me personally I have heaps of sdcards lying around.

RE the LG g4, I thought only the H815T included all of the Aus bands where the H815 didn't? I found the T version to be really expensive but if the non-T has the same then maybe that's a good option. edit Looks like the non T doesn't have band 40 which optus uses but it has band 28.

      • Not sure if trying to justify your regretted purchase of a 16GB phone or just trolling.
Better to have extra storage and not need it than to need it and not have it.

        • While I agree that the option of an SD card slot is a bonus and always nice to have, I feel like it's pretty overkill for the majority of smart phone users these days, and they're simply using the storage only because they have it, and not because they need it.

For example, I recently changed from a iPhone 6s with 64gb internal storage to a Nexus 5x with 32gb internal storage, and slowly realized I didn't really use most of the stuff I had stored on my phone, such as:

          • 20gb+ of music, I hardly used a quarter of this and only put it on there because I had the room to spare, I'm now utilizing the included data on my phone plan (7gb, I've only ever managed to use half of this after a month of heavy usage) and listening to music via apps like Google Play and Spotify instead
          • 15gb+ of apps, mainly large games that I had acquired for free over the 6 month period of owning the phone, I played maybe one to two of those games on a regular basis
          • 5-10gb of photos, these could have easily lived in the cloud or on my computer - I'll eventually delete old photos I've taken on my new phone and store them on Google Photos instead

After owning the Nexus for just over two weeks now, I've only used 5gb of the usable 25gb included storage, and a lot of that is from apps that I hardly use and will most likely uninstall after using for a few days.

With that being said, I personally think I would struggle with 16gb storage and agree with a lot of people that 32gb should be the minimum these days, but I feel a lot of people could get away with this if they just managed their phone a little better and didn't have un-necessary rubbish on their phone.

      • Are you serious..you can record in 4k on some phones now just as one example why removable storage is extremely relevant. How are you going to store all the media say if you don't have access to a computer or internet at that time - a most obvious scenario being on holidays or an important event like a wedding. Micro-sd card slots are important fyi and statistics don't lie. Go look at the sales figures for the Galaxy s6 compared to the s7, and if you can't be bothered, think about why Samsung brought it back if it isn't such a big factor for consumers.

      • Just got my 6" Sony Xperia C5 Ultra with a 200 GB SD card for $400 all in.

Totally regretting buying it when I could have had this with 32GB.

        Not.

Looks like the down vote train is at full steam today…

I agree with what you said. More gigs on a phone is more about the pissing competition than it is about it being used. Oh, you only got the 64g? Me, I got the 128g… Piss piss piss…

I am happy with the 16g phone I have. It has no expandable storage either. I use Pandora for music and only load up what I need when I know I won't have network coverage. I use Dropbox/Clouddrive for all my photos. I don't install 1g games on my phone that I play 3 times and then leave it on there.

And really? The whole 4K video thing? Cause filming your drunk friends or making selfie videos needs to be in 4K. And yeah, I attend too many weddings where I am expected to film them all in 4K for the blue ray release and I just don't know how to delete/remove it from the device after. But what if Mary Jane from Accounting needs to see what Bobby Joan from admin got up to on Friday drinks from 4 months ago? I could imagine the conversation… "Oh, it was so much funnier in 4K…"

While removable storage is nice and big gigs makes your (profanity) look bigger, it is all about managing your data. If phones were 256g, you would all be on here complaining that 512 would be nice and you just don't know how people survive on 256… You don't need 28 hours of HD video and 3000 hours of music for your daily commute. What you want is a reason to feel superior, and phone companies have their puppet hand up your collective arses making your teeth clatter…

In b4 "well, just see the sales figures for…" Teeth clattering starts…

Bring on the down votes!!! :D

        • On the other hand, it seems like those of you stuck with 16/32gb are trying a little bit too hard to justify your purchase. It may be perfectly fine for some people, but when you say that "big gigs make your *** look better" it's hard to take your argument seriously.

What about people who prefer to listen to FLAC files? What about those who are hardcore mobile gamers (some mobile games take up 1-2gb+ nowadays, and then you have your emulated games)? What about those people who like to keep their favourite TV series on their phone? The list goes on.

Don't assume everyone else has the same needs as you just because you're happy with the bare minimum.

        • -1

@Dr PhilGood: It seems to me that the ones who have 128gig phones are trying a little to hard to win this pissing competitin…

16g is fine. It's a phone, not a portable micro server. So, a majority of users want more gigs because they listen to idiots on forums that tell them that life isn't worth living if you don't consume the gigs.

The only people who I know that listen to FLAC files are hipsters and the same people that require the gigs because gigs is life and use words like "muddy" to describe anything they don't like about audio output. They have FLAC files and listen to them on public transport with their "Beats Studio 2" headphones.

I covered mobile games. They download them and keep that 1g game after 3 plays. Emulated games fall under the same catagory. The "oh looks man. Do you have the whole Final Fantasy series on your phone man?" Cause I know I want to get in a good solid Gran Tourismo session while I'm waiting for the Dr.

Keeping a whole series on your phone is stupid. Please see my above remark about keeping 28 hours of HD video on any phone. I know I hate being caught out while I am waiting anywhere for 28 hours. I would never leave home without my whole entire series of How I Met Your Mother on my phone…

And your whole argument was hard to take seriously as soon as you mentioned FLAC files. And what is to say that 16g is the bare minimum? I was saying is that too many people want more gigs because they don't know how to use what they have. It is the same as buying a bigger house because you hoard so much shit, the first one is full. How do people live in houses with only 8 rooms? I need a minimum for 16… Wish it had an option to add on another 32 rooms to store all this shit I am not using…

Anyway, you will never see it any different.

        • @pegaxs:

It really sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder about added storage. Like it's somehow offensive to you that some people have more GB than you. If you're happy with 16gb then that's fine, I take no issue with that. I myself only have 32gb on my phone (and I honestly don't use it all). But please stop spouting nonsense about more storage being useless based on your own opinion.

FLAC files, large games, entire TV series? If people want these things on their phone it's their prerogative. Not everyone who listens to FLAC is a hipster and uses beats (i doubt hipsters would use beats anyway), not everyone who downloads large games on their phone stops playing after 3 days. Not everyone who has 128gb gets it just to win 'the pissing competition' (not sure I've even heard of anyone bragging about this anyway - it's just storage).

TLDR: Don't get mad at people for having different needs to yourself.

        • -2

@Dr PhilGood: I get so angry about extra storage. Every time I hear about new phone coming with extra memory, I want to start an online petition and wear a coloured ribbon to protest it.

The crux of it is, people who say inane things like… 64gb? That's a deal breaker… Or, no expandable storage? That's a deal breaker. Or people who heap negative comments on phones that dont come with a terabyte of onboard storage. And more storage is not useless. I never said that. What I am trying to get across is that 32gb or no external storage is not a "deal breaker". It's almost like you didn't read my replies or the original reply I agreed with.

Like it is their prerogative to store over a years worth of music, and tell the world about how their pissing competition is going, it's also my prerogative to tell those people to pull their heads in. These people go out of their way to make sure they let everyone know how much storage they have and how much shit they store on their phone. Kinda like the crossfit of mobile phones.

And I beg to differ. FLAC audiophiles are usually the same character type that fill hipster ranks. Oh, MP3? Nah, I like the crispier highs and the tonier lows. I only have FLAC. I've been listening to FLAC since before it was cool…

TL;DR: Don't get mad at people for offering a different option or alternative view. And read what people write before making assumptive replies.

        • -1

Loool you sound sooo salty just because you can't accept the fact that technology is moving forward beyond what you're used to. Yeah remember when you had a brick phone with how much memory? Why do you need 16gb now? Oh wait…you've adapted to new technologies offered and having a few hundred mb storage isn't going to cut it. Oh wait we're moving onto 4k and 4k tvs on a commercial scale and 16gb isn't going to store jack all. I don't care what resolution you film in, 240p for all I care. I'm not missing out on the latest and greatest. Does your phone even have 4k capacity lol? Evidently not. Have fun with your 240p on dialup since you don't care about video quality.

How can you even be mad at manufacturers giving you the OPTION to expand your storage? Are you really that jealous??

        • -3

          @crackermo: can nobody read here?

Obviously what I have tried to put across and the post I replied to way way above that got 10+ down votes tried to as well, is lost on you and many others.

Replying to you is like talking to custard. Pointless.

        • +1

@pegaxs: Everything looks like custard in 240p.

        • @spaghettiman: Yeah! But think of how much more custard you can fit in that same size bowl…

      • to all of you who negged my comment out there, its pretty clear that you guys are pro-sdcard, but i believe most of you have pointed out some good points.

HOWEVER. let me address a few things

more storage is nice of course, so just buy the next storage up. (for most flagship phones)

most phones are incapable of fully utilising FLAC without appropriate DAC/AMP inbuilt

imo you will regret taking 4k video before you run out of space. (heat/battery issues)

i wouldn't look at samsung for trends. apple has never had a sd card slot anyway.

someone else also mentioned they were hoarding. which was the whole point i was making.

i have a 32gb 5x and 6p, a 8gb iphone 5c, and a 4gb+16gb nokia 520 for purposes. you'll notice none of them break 32gb. because its more than enough in the first place. i made my hoarding point in my OP

this post was for a 32gb phone. not a 16gb. but i share the view that 32gb is comfortable minimum. (a 16gb nexus doesn't suffer as much as a 16gb samsung

        was not trolling. full srs.

lastly- why are you negging my own opinion? o.O i shouldn't need to type out every single thing to address all fanboys. like @pegaxs said, i never said its bad. its just not supposed to be a factor/"deal breaker". learn to internet people

    • +1

I moved from the S4 to the 5x and am loving it. One thing that has frustrated me though is the cost of buying USB c cables- cheap ones can fry your equipment, while the better priced ones take ages to order from overseas or are $30+ each. I suggest doing some research (Google Benson approved) before you buy so that you know what you're getting yourself into.
That said, even with this frustration/expense, I'm loving my 5x and glad I bought it.

    • +1

I purchased the 5X and 4G recently - I would say G4 is the better value phone by far (higher end specs, including microsd, 3GB RAM, much much better camera).

      • +1

thanks, i might hold out for a deal on the G4.

  • +1

Anyone dealt with their warranty before?

Title says 1 year LG warranty. Is that stock manufacturer warranty? Couldn't find any more info on the site

    • According to the site it is "12 months inHouse Warranty by DWI".

More info can be found: http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Warranty-Informat…

      • +5

So basically no warranty then.. Right.

        • -1

No no, can't you read? It has warranty for one year.

        • @tranqme:

which requires return to HK (at your expense) for assessment of whether fault is due to you, or not >.<

        • @Wally:

Where does the warranty terms state it has to be sent back to HK?

        • @tranqme:

Dunno Ask those in this thread that were charged for the return postage

        • @Wally:

This is quite standard in terms of third party warranty, but considering you're saving hundreds of dollars on a device, what's $15 to have it sent in to be repaired?

        • @tranqme: it's also likely to take quite a lot longer, and the service may not be as good. That's just the risk of buying grey: you save money, but warranty can be more difficult.

        • @magicmoose:

The fact that the item page description changed from claiming it had an LG warranty to stating 1 Year InHouse Warranty (By DWI) .. is a worry ;-)

  • looking at a new phone. will this work on 4G aus networks?
Other negatives to consider with this deal?

    • +1

It only has 2gb ram, that's a negative.

      • +5

How do I get negged for that?

I have an android with 3gb ram, my partner has 2gb ram. She runs into issues exhausting it, I don't. Tough crowd.

        • -5

Maybe she needs to stop using it as her main CAD/CAM 3D rendering machine. what a load of rubbish. The average user would not be able to tell 99% of the time if the identical phone has 2 or 3gb of RAM. But let me guess, you're a power user!

I can't remember it off the top of my head what it is called, but it's your brain that makes 3gb better than 2gb. It's the same thing it does when you want a new car and the one you have has a squeaking door and now the steering feels funny and it feels slow on hills. If there was a 4gb phone out there, the 3gb one would start to run like crap. And when the 5gb one comes out… This 4gb one feels so slow and apps keep crashing…

"Confirmation bias" I think it is called…

        • +1

@pegaxs: that feel when you read your neg count and upon reflection realise that all opinions are subject to cognitive biases, even your own, huh?

        • @tanabe88gg:

My partner is having issues with this comment, so I would recommend the OP's comment instead.

        • -2

@tanabe88gg: oh no! Not my imaginary internet points! I will have to adjust my resume now before applying for my next job.

You need to re-read what I said and Google "confirmation bias"

All these negs! I had none yesterday and now all I notice is negs. How come yesterday there was none and all I see today is negs?

Same thing happens that when a new phone comes out with more storage, your fine phone for the last 2 years suddenly develops storage issues. It's so slow now and always filling up. I better get that new phone. That should fix all these issues…

    • +1

It will work on 4G in Aus.

    • Fully compatible with Australian LTE.

Had a bad experience with DWI recently. Ordered s7 edge around a month ago and parcel was lost during shipping. They took 3 weeks to prepare the final report that item was lost during shipping. Then they refunded me back the back but $50 less (shipping and paypal surcharge was $50).

So basically i lost $50 for nothing and they wasted one month. I think its their strategy to pick customers randomly like that and just make money of that.

    • +2

Can't you escalate with Paypal? Surely them losing the phone isn't your fault, right?

    • +1

That's stupid man. There was a paypal advertisement last week on my account that if your paypal item is incorrect don't worry we will refund you shipping.

      I reckon escalate with paypal.

      • Thanks, i will escalate shipping charges with PayPal then.

      • What's ridiculous with the Paypal "free returns shipping" though is that you have to "click" their link in order to activate it on your account!

What a load of rubbish— either offer it or don't, but that clicking thing is really annoying! Be sure to activate it before you attempt to get the shipping back. Then, I'm thinking they'll disqualify it because you bought the item before you activated it…

        Imho— but really!

        • Yeah I remember that too, but true that is complete bullshit. you have to activate a good thing but all the change in fees etc is automatic. Pathetic

  • -1

It maybe sold here as an Australian phone but it still doesn't have B28 700 band that is used in Australia but instead has United States LTE bands 12 through to 17 on the the 700 frequency

    • +1

On what do you base that observation?

    • It definitely has band 28

  • I would never buy from DWI again. Bought 2 Fuji cameras which both failed on first use. Sent back to DWI and told by we had misused them… WTF? Asked them to send them back - still waiting 3 years later!!!

Can you post your source for the above? Think we have stated multiple times in this thread that this is the Australian model, also called the international/Global model has Band 28 (700). Few sources as an example http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_nexus_5x-7556.php

      LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 9(1800), 17(700), 18(800), 19(800), 20(800), 26(850), 28(700), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500) - Global model

ps I have the nexus 5x, (bought from the Expansys sale few weeks back) not that it matters.

      • Do you think it's worth to get Nexus 5x?

Battery - Would it last a day?
Call Quality - I used to own LG Nexus 5 and LG G3 and I often experience the problem that the other side cannot hear what I say.
Warm issue - Does the back get very warm when you use the phone for a while?

Thanks in advance if you can answer my questions.

        • Personally speaking I think so. I got it because my Sony Z1 (used it for 2+years) was acting up. I also got it because my wife got the Blue Nexus 5x (from the other JB Hifi Deal).

Battery definitely lasts a day, depends on your usage I suppose. To me it lasts longer than my Z1 Snapdragon 800 + 3000 milliamp battery. I even turn off 4G purposely on the Sony to get my battery to last longer. on the 5x, I leave it on all the time. with light to moderate use, I still have over 30% when I get to bed. Also the charging on it, yes it doesn't have QC2.0 as such, but it does have quicker than usual charging. I can charge the whole phone in under an hour.

Call quality seems ok, tho the Sony had that "Clear audio" thing. not sure if it was a gimmick or what its quite clear between 5x and another 5x.

Warm? Nah non existent, but I don't play games. This has a snapdragon 808 so doesn't share the same fate as the older brother the 810.

Personally for under $400 I think this phone is a steal. I was contemplating on waiting for the HTC 10 or the Sony X. But I can guarantee when it comes out will be in the high $9xx or even break 1k. for less than half, im happy with it.

        • Call quality - My Moto X had this problem where the other person couldn't hear, especially at the beginning of calls? Got a Nexus 5x with the JB deal recently and have been very happy with the call quality and stability. - used to drive me absolutely nuts.

The battery lasts a day easy :) I especially love how it doesn't use much battery overnight (if I forget to leave it plugged in)

It doesn't seem to get warm. I haven't done much gaming on it yet however.

        • Thanks guys.

I am so on the fence for this deal. I really want a nexus and 32gb is perfect but the warranty stuff is a red flag for me. Not sure whether to bite the bullet or wait for better deals. Any Advice?

    • Bite! I did! (Bought from Expansys) The way I look at it if you break and and warranty doesnt go your way (for what ever reason) Its only < $400. If this was a $900 phone, then I would think twice.
