  • on Any UNLIMITED Plan for Students

I wasn't aware they had plans for students….

  • Unfortunate they don't offer this for existing customers!

    • if your a student, port out to Telstra and back in as a student. Problem solved

      • +31

        if your a student

        if you're a student

EC stop drawing negs away from JV!

    • +4

It's really starting to feel like customer loyalty means jack all to Amaysim :P
      Who woulda guessed it ;)

      • Most optus deals are "move to the optus network" as well, all carriers do this

  • +7

Amaysim is great with their regular 30-50% and even more first month promos, but not so amazing ongoing. I would never pay $44 for the popular 5GB in real money.
I think an actual penny pinching student would be more likely to be on to the "port the next excellent first month promo with whichever company was cheapest" system or better still wait and grab six $5 Telstra and six $5 Optus or Voda and oscillate porting between them, always having a "welcome month" Real savings to be had that way. 10% off? Very so-so, bordering on meh.

    • I would never pay $44 for the popular 5GB in real money.

Its unlimited Calls + 7GB data for $36 inclusive 10% discount.

      • Oh that's right, they bumped up the data allowances last month, yes its 7gb now.

        • -2

so $8 less than what you just quoted

I would never pay $44 for the popular 5GB in real money.

          That's 18% cheaper .

So is that a deal now

        • +2

          @easternculture:
Sorry EC, you are quite right about the larger allowances but I think students are a bit more savvy than a 10% off deal. The Uni students I know would port carriers in a heartbeat, so I think the pile of $5 starter packs scenario above is more likely.
$36 buys a lot of 2 minute noodles.

          @King Tightarse:

I see you change your argument when i proved you wrong with the original assumption.

How does a student benefit from Amaysim Unlimited Plan?

In addition to the unlmited Talk and SMS in Australia, Student including international students benefit from:

          • Unlimited Standard International calls (Mobile & landline) to 10 countries:
            China
            Hong Kong
            India
            Malaysia
            New Zealand
            Singapore
            South Korea
            Thailand
            United Kingdom
            USA

          • Standard Unlimited International SMS & MMS to 32 countries

So international students can potentially save at least $10 per month on buying phone cards to call their relo's by signing up to one of the Amaysim unlimited Plans

If the plan does not suit your needs, it may suit others @ King TA

          Lol OK EC

@King Tightarse: Pile? More like a box. And a student would chew thru 7gig in a day!

        • @BargainKen:

Really?. im on 3GB . I use the internet on my phone 12 - 16 hrs a day and still have ~ 500Mb by the end of the month

        • @easternculture: Then you're not a real student.

        • +2

          @BargainKen:

A real student hacks the wifi router in the next dorm for free internet

        • @easternculture: yea they can do that, but wifi means you gotta stay in one place, can only stay in Mcdonalds for so long before they kick you out

        • @easternculture:

Hacks as in someone gives them the password ? :P

        • @BargainKen:
Yeah, but that's a good few days.
          Trust me :)

    • Once there was a Tightarse, now he has a King:)

you must be very new here. kta has been around for ages.

  • I'm still annoyed at the 13 months per year I have to pay with them but can't find any other company doing better price on unlimited and 2gb of data.

    • I went and complain, they gave me $5 off for the next two invoices, woot much money

  • +2

BTW in other news, for those that missed it https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/139622?page=3#comment-3603…
we can all go and re-add our links to the Referrals Settings page as Amaysim have re-started their $10 per referral program.

  • $44 is soooo much for mobile plans in an age where decent internet is between $50-120

  • How will they verify if you're a student?

    • To get this offer, enter your edu.au email on this page, and we’ll send a promo code to your edu.au address.

      • Anyone tried with normal email?

        It might work

      • This would technically work with staff too.

  • Cheers OP, finally can (profanity) off vodaphone

  • +1

    Thanks for this.

Just so you know, many uni students like to sit at uni and siphon wifi from there. Its almost always faster than 3G and usually faster than 4G, and its free (if you neglect course fees)

  • Previous Optus 10gb for $36 was better and some people got it to $26 after broadband discount. At Monash I usually get ~80mbps on my iPhone but 100 if I'm near a new wireless ac hotspot. Telstra 4G is around 60mbps there so yes slower than Uni wifi

  • so this discount only for the first month?

    • Whole year applied monthly

      • thanks! is this like a contract? what if i wanna break out say in 6 months?

  • Well well, I hate the Telco companies where the credit expires in 28 days.
For them, a year has 13 months and couple of days on a leap year i.e., 28 days * 13 = 364 days + 2 days for a leap year.

So even after 10% discount on their $24.90 plan, it seems you are paying $24.28 / month

I would choose vaya anytime over this plan. $20 unlimited and you pay monthly.

  • Received a word from the affiliate network that Amaysim is indeed still in the program — not sure what's OP's source that stated otherwise. You may still receive cashback from PricePal. However the student discount might be a promotion outside the affiliate channel so there's no guarantee on the cashback.

    • I got an email from clixgalore on 6/4/2016

The program: amaysim (ADID:13072) has now been deactivated, please remove all tracking links for this program.

  • PM me if you need a code.

    • Hi I tried to send message but it says can't accept requests? Could I grab code please? Thanks

  • Just siged up week ago and I"m student. Do I have to port out to get this deal?

    • try chat with them first. if no go, you will have to port out and back in

      • Well they said "we cant add it as the service is already active but i can apply a $15 credit on your account once off goodwill"

So got $15 credit, might as well port out before promo end anyway..

  • hi! sorry, where do i put my email for the student discount code? do i sign up with my student email?

    • I worked out how to do it. But it didn't want to accept my student email because my student email does not have .au!! how annoying. it only works with .edu.au…. and not just .edu. i go to monash university in australia

      • Contact them and see if you still get discount

  • Has anyone got a code they don't want?Thanks!!
