Hi guys,

Was fishing about for a new plan with Vodafone (been with them ~5 years) and thought to share what I found:

1) http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/prepaid/plans/mymix
MyMIX has been talked about here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/245919

So you can mix and match what goodies you use. This for example was what I had seriously considered:

$90
Expiry period = 90 days
Data for use in Oz = 9GB
Standard international minutes = 120 minutes
Standard national minutes = Infinite
Standard national TXT = Infinite
MyMix credit = $90
Excludes premium services.
All for use in Australia.

[Critical info summary] (http://www.vodafone.com.au/doc/cis/prepaid/mymix/mymix65_apr…)

That's effectively $30/month, with unused credit/data lasting 3 months.

2) http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/plans/sim-only/state/12-…

Sim-only post-paid, 7GB* data for $40 per month in Australia for 12 months.
Total min cost $480.

3GB data + 1GB bonus + 3GB bonus = 7GB/month for the length of contract
Infinite standard national calls.
Infinite standard TXT here and to overseas.
300 standard international minutes to selected countries.
$5 Roaming.
Unlimited data for the first two months with no excess charges.

I did the web chat thing with Vodafone rep and they gave me a $4 loyalty discount for the length of my contract, thus I will pay $36/month.

Eventually I went with choice 2) due to:
i) 7GB vs 3GB effective
ii) I intend to travel overseas a lot this year and only post-paid plans qualify for $5/day roaming. Pre-paid roaming is craaaaazy ; $6.45 / 30 seconds in Japan

Cons:
i) more expensive $40 ($36 for me) vs $30
ii) Stuck on 12-month contract

Cheers all!

  • Optus deal is far better.

    • +1

Hey, would you share? I'd still stay with Voda for now but it'd be good to know for the future :)

    • +1

i think it really depends on whether the person needs to call overseas alot (300mins vs unlimited) and whether or not you intend to travel with your australian sim.

So it's 3gb extra data p/m vs roaming and unlimited international calls to a great number of countries.

For me, vodafone wins hands down.

    • Except for international roaming?

      • +1

I prefer paying $5-$15 for a sim card in my destination rather than $5 a day. Not to mention, that is also in a very restricted number of countries.

        • @hypie

it depends really, if for example you are staying over at singapore for a layover just for 1-2 nights? would you apply for a sim?
if you need your australian number for business or just incase of emergency?

          I can understand how this might work if;
          a) you don't need your australian number or you dont need to call australia
          b) staying at a single destination for a few nights/weeks

but otherwise vodafone red is the best product on the market for the situations i have described.

        • @googoogaga:

Agreed. It is a game changer. But again limited countries, so you need to be careful.

  • +3

Optus deal is better in its place. But this doesn't deserve a neg either as they are not same products. Not sure of the rules but I think it might not be even a reasonable reason for neg.

  • It's wrong use of negative vote and moderator should revoke it.

  • Does anyone know what that 'MyMix Credit' can be used for?

Vodafone Prepaid MyMix Recharge Products come with MyMix Credit. Details on what
MyMix Credit can be used to purchase can also be found in the table titled “Payable from
Vodafone Prepaid Credit” in Section 14 below

Looks to be calls, text, PAYG data, PXT (whatever that is), premium text and voice, 123 ask anything, 1223 directory assistance, 13/18/1800 numbers.

      TL;DR Nothing interesting

      • So by premium numbers does that mean like those text competitions, charity donations etc.?

        • Premium TXT
Flexi Cap, Vodafone Cap Recharge Products, Vodafone Prepaid Combo:
Excluded – Vodafone Extras must be purchased, see section 12.
Vodafone Mini Cap Recharge Products: Excluded.
TXT & Talk, Vodafone All-time, 365 day, TXT & Data and Vodafone Pay As
You Go, Prepaid Combo Recharge Products, Vodafone Prepaid MyMix
Recharge Products: Varies – Dependent on service

          Premium Voice Numbers
All Prepaid Recharge Products: Excluded. Not available on Vodafone Prepaid.

Potentially? But it seems a lot of exclusions. Probably those premium numbers like ringtones and stuff.

  • Apparently. Amaysim offer is better optus and better than voda

    No bargain…

Getting $40 for 10Gb on Virgin with NO contract…

        • +1

          You can't get it anymore.

        • @stonkered:

          You can't get it anymore.

Depends on the Rep you speak to…

        • @jv:

Depends on the Rep you speak to…

So which rep should I speak to and how do I get in contact with them so I know I can definitely get the deal?

        • @nickxau:

Luck of the draw, just ask them…

        • @jv:

I signed up for 2 Sims during promotion and they cancelled 1 as they assumed it was a dupe. They still wouldn't give it me to after speaking to a few different reps and it was their mistake.

        • @jv:
So this is still a bargain as it doesn't involve a gamble to (possibly) get the deal you mentioned.

        • @nickxau:

          it doesn't involve a gamble

It wasn't a gamble when I signed up. The offer was available to everyone, including existing subscribers…

        • @jv:

It wasn't a gamble when I signed up

Correct - when you signed up to the deal which is now no longer available to the average Joe unless (according to you) have to

Depend on the rep you speak to

          and even then it's

          Luck of the draw

        • @nickxau:

which is now no longer available to the average Joe

          have you tried?

I've found Virgin staff very accommodating about getting discounts to keep a customer…

Anyway, I don't consider paying more than $40 for 10Gb a bargain, as that would make me worse off than my current plan (as per my original comment)

        • @jv:

          have you tried?

No as I don't know which rep to speak to in my gamble to possibly get that deal

I've found Virgin staff very accommodating about getting discounts to keep a customer…

But this deal is available to even the average Joe (without the obstacles), not just existing customers who are after a better deal

        • @nickxau:

But this deal is available to even the average Joe

My initial comment is still valid… This isn't a bargain.

        • @jv:
I just proved otherwise. How is it still valid? Based on what?? Based on an expired deal where there's no guarantee that one can get?

        • @nickxau:

          Based on what?

Based on what I'm paying… It hasn't expired for me.

        • @jv:
So once again based on something that's no longer available to someone else unless the planets align and you speak to the correct rep

Funny how that's how you determined that this is not a bargain

        • @nickxau:

So once again based on something that's no longer available

It is available. That's what I currently pay…

Funny how that's how you determined that this is not a bargain

Yes, the fact that I would get less data for the same price is definitely not a bargain for me…

        • @jv:
Proof that someone else can get that deal now and I'll be happy to call this a non-bargain as well

        • @nickxau:

Proof that someone else can get that deal now

Once again you failed to read my first comment.

        • @jv:

You also failed to prove that you can still get the plan you're on to prove this deal is not a bargain

        • @nickxau:

You also failed to prove that you can still get the plan you're on

I don't need to get it again. I'm still on it.
This deal is not a bargain as it means I'll get less data for the same price…

        • @jv:
Then that only concerns you. As the deal you're referring to is no longer available where as this one is.
This deal is as bargain as the one that you're always referring to is no longer available.

        • @nickxau:

          Then that only concerns you.

Correct, and the thousands of others that managed to get that plan… It's not a bargain if they switch to this one…

          This deal is as bargain

          Not for me it's not…

        • @jv:

Correct, and the thousands of others that managed to get that plan… It's not a bargain if they switch to this one…

Interesting… where did you get that figure from?

          Not for me it's not…

Just because it's not a bargain for you doesn't mean it's not a bargain for the rest of the OZB community

        • @nickxau:

where did you get that figure from?

How many do you think there are?

        • @nickxau:

Just because it's not a bargain for you doesn't mean it's not a bargain for the rest of the OZB

All my comments here express my own opinion as to whether it's a bargain or not.
I have no idea if others consider a deal a bargain. That's why there is a voting system and people can express there own views in the comments.

As I said many times, I do not consider this post a bargain.

I also see that you haven't voted this as a bargain either.

        • @jv:

How many do you think there are

No idea but you seemed really confident that there were thousands that got the plan so just curious if that's really the case and where you got the number from?

I also see that you haven't voted this as a bargain either

          Do I have to?

        • @nickxau:

so just curious if that's really the case

I'm not curious, but I'm probably pretty close… If you want to find out, you can ask their sales team.

          Do I have to?

Nope, but it suggests you don't think it's a bargain…

        • @jv:
Do you have the number of their sales team? Also what's your full name and address so I can confirm you actually have this plan? While you're at it, do you have the name of the rep I can speak to if I want to sign up to that plan?

Well you don't think it's a bargain but I don't see you voting either

        • @nickxau:

Do you have the number of their sales team?

          Try their website.

        • @jv:
Do you have the link? What about your full name and address?

        • @nickxau:

          Do you have the link?

          Google it.

        • @jv:
Got it! So who do I speak to afterwards to guarantee I get this bargain plan you're on?

        • @nickxau:

          Ask them

        • @jv:

Depends on the Rep you speak to…

But it sounds like you know the person to speak to? You're not gonna share the love?

        • @nickxau:

But it sounds like you know the person to speak to?

          Maybe you have tinnitus?

        • @jv:

          Maybe you have tinnitus?

Maybe you have talking crap and have nothing to back it up?

        • @nickxau:

          Maybe you have talking crap

I know what I pay each month on my bill, and it's better value than this deal..

        • @jv:
Seems like you have nothing new to add to and backup your argument

  • +2

Think I'd rather pay $45 and get aldi/telstra than put up with optus/vodafone.

    • +1

That would depend on who has the better reception where you mainly use the phone…

      • +1

Not a lot of weddings around where I mainly use my phone…

  • Think it depends on what you negotiate with Voda. Just came off my contract and was able to negotiate a sim only plan for $40/month with 10gbs data. This is month to month as well

    • How did you manage that? I'm hopeless at negotiating.

  • I have optus and my partner has Vodafone. The 4G speeds and coverage are much better with Vodafone. She managed to get the same plan but with an $8 loyalty discount. So she pays $32 per month. My partner has been with Vodafone for 10 years. I have the optus 10gb plan and unlimited calls for $30pm. I have Optus broadband so qualify for additional $10 discount. I haven't used more than 7gb per month yet and that's with heavy use.

  • +1
  • where on earth do i find the vodafone live chat option? (think im going blind!)

    • Me too! How did people go negotiating over the phone? I am on the old $35 plan with 6gb data which is about to expire
The Optus deal is over but will Voda still negotiate?

*** go to complaints the chat option is there!!
