Need a new desktop on a budget of upto $1,500 - Theres like over 250 to choose from on PC Byte and half of them don't have a GPU or OS or this or that. Its just hard to decide - Looking at Intel and preferable a GPU of GTX 960 and above. Can anyone recommend?

Phoneinc_digital was selling the S7 Edge when I saw this on Saturday, has now been removed as they have all "sold out" despite the deal not starting until 10.

Is it normal for sellers to take off particular stock when a deal like this comes around?

    • +1

Is it normal for sellers to take off particular stock when a deal like this comes around?

It's been done before. At least they haven't done what others have which is to raise the price so that the 20% discount just takes you back to their normal price before the sale.

      • It's just as annoying when they take off items from their stores. Why even participate in the promo if you're not willing to sell.

Any of these stores sell DSLR cameras?
    If so any good deals?

    Thanks.

    • +2

      Yes. Probably. You're welcome.

Seriously though, there is a link in the deal description to search the sale. Searching "DSLR Camera" returns 128 listings. The deals can be great or completely irrelevant depending on your budget/preference (Canon/Nikon/other)/interests/experience/ability. So give us more info if you want some actual advice.

If you need a price comparison use staticice, Price Hipster and your local camera store websites.

There's a lot of those great bargains on big ticket items. Unfortunately OZB recently changed their rules so that only listings with 10+ stock can be submitted.

It used to be that for big ticket items such as this, the listing would be allowed even if they had only a few for sale. Now if you were to submit that it would be removed.

This is a website for great bargains afterall, and the admins/mods have changed the rules to stop useful listings such as the one you linked to from getting the attention they deserve.

I've found a fair few more, but they have been removed due to insufficient stock. They are still available also, it's just a shame the admins/mods don't want people to know about good deals.

      • @ C0bolt, Hey there. Yup, there's only 4 listed in stock at the time of me posting it in the comments thread. I wouldn't have made a separate post of this as i see no need, in this context I'm merely mentioning in the original deal thread to help others who might've missed it :)

But thanks for the info in regards to the quantity limit, I'll keep it in mind if there's anything in the future i see and want to post.

Edit: Whoa, now there's 9 available with 2 sold

  • Any decent deals on a basic monitor with HDMI output? To run my Remix Android.

  • Hi all, I'm in the market of getting a router for my FTTN connection.
I'm deciding between these two models:
    1)ASUS DSL-AC68U (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASUS-DSL-AC68U-Dual-Band-Wireless…)
    2)Netgear D7000 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Netgear-D7000-Nighthawk-Dual-Band…)

Does anyone have any good/bad experience with either of those?

    • If you're interested in reliability and bang for buck I'd also look at the TPlink Archer D7 (the C7 is same but no ADSL modem) from MSY it's under $130.
Yes I hear you, you don't need an ADSL modem….today, it may come in handy sometime later.
I currently use a TPlink Archer D5 which replaced a Linksys XAC1900 and a Netgear dual band N before that.
I have had many routers over the years (& support quite a few more) including Billion, Dlink, Linksys, Netgear, TPlink etc. and I sought out a TPlink based on my good experiences
      That's my 2c worth anyway.

      • Thanks for the recommendation and I am actually using the D7 at the moment. Guess I don't really need an upgrade :P

        • +2

If you're happy with the D7, I'd stick with it. The others may not be an upgrade in effect.
Generally the main brands are built to a price (no matter what they cost), their reduced warranty offerings (now 1 year?) bear testament to that.
Netgear support is now offshore and apparently absolutely woeful (not including that they demand money to get decent support).
Not so familiar with Asus support.
To my knowledge TPlink still offers value for money, great reliability and a 3 yr warranty.
I've used TPL support locally and in HK, they were good and you can get to someone who isn't following a checklist of questions to ask 'cos they don't know how to fault find.
Yes, I'd buy another TPL if I had to buy another router today - even if it cost the same as the big brands.

        • +1

          @rayski57:
lol i just upgraded billion 7800n to archer d7

        • @leeroys_dad: I suspect that was a good choice.
Billion used to be a go to brand for modem routers but I'm told they've had a fair bit of flak over reliability in recent times.
Don't get me wrong, none of the manufacturers of consumer or SoHo networking gear are beyond reproach.

  • Thanks OP!

I just made a purchase using the coupon code above. When I was going through the paypal payment method, it should the deducted amount after the coupon was used. However the transactions on my paypal show the full price listing and not the discounted prices after 20% off. Thanks if you have an explanation.

    • And so it begins…

Check the full transaction record and you should see Paypal paid part of it.

    • Don't worry that is normal, if you click on transaction details it will show that you only paid 80% of it and the other 20% was paid by the voucher.

    • +2

No need to Neg me peeps, I wasn't derp enough to not check the full transaction records. I contacted an Ebay consultant about the issue, not sure what happened but my order was completely messed up. So I purchased 3 products and applied the code, the discounted amount was stated on the page when I paid for it. However I received a receipt for the two products being purchased at full price on the full transaction record, from Ebay and Paypal. The third product wasn't processed through during the payment which was very odd. They agreed to refund the 20% discount to my paypal, and I'll just have to repurchase the third product. Thanks for the help though.

      • I've had that happen twice when I've had multiple items in the cart from different sellers and some haven't processed payment and basically just disappeared.

I remember paypal took its time processing and in the end said it was still going and would notify me if there was any problems.

I thought maybe because they were a bunch of transactions in a row maybe it was the credit card system holding things up but never really found out why.

        (That wasn't my neg btw)

what do you guys think, worth it for the 4k?

    • You can get almost the same specs in a notebook that costs half the price.

It's using DDR3 on a Haswell CPU, so it's 2 year old architecture.

If you like the Zenbook for the build quality then why not look at a Macbook Pro 15?
