Are payments made with TGG gift cards eligible for the $100 store credit? If so, I'm thinking of buying 2 x $300 GC using 2 x AMEX cards for a further $100 saving.

    Or even better 3 x $300 GC using 3 x AMEX cards. So for $750 you get TV + $3 item + $300 credit

Anyone know how many gift cards can be entered on TGG website when making a payment?

  • Its not a smart tv

    • +12

I always knew there was a reason that the TV in our house when I was a kid was called the 'idiot box'.

      • Buy a chromecast2 +this tv would be smart idiot box. 50hz may be an issue for sport lovers. Otherwise ok tv.. :):)

        • +3

There may be an issue with Chromecast?

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/251671#comment-3755640

There are only 2 HDMI ports, only 1 left after connecting Chromecast. May not be an issue for some people but just giving a heads-up.

          Maybe not so smart?

        • Or buy an Intel computestick and it'll be smart enough to do whatever you want it to

    • Which is a good thing imo. Buying it, thanks OP.

      • Why is less functionality a good thing?

        • +1

Becacuse I don't need it as I can turn it into a smart TV for far less than the extra they charge for it to be built in.

        • +1

Most smart TV features are out of date after the first year, and manufacturers can be slack with software/firmware updates. Why pay extra for "smart" features when you can buy a new set top box (chromecast/Apple TV) every few years

        • because the extra 'new' functionality become redundant very quickly.
The extra menus and options on many SmartTVs are a nuicence when it is no longer developed or supported in 1-2 years.

A smartTV where the vendor abandons it with no new updates leaving apps like browser, catchup tv and streaming services missing or no longer compatible.
You end up with a tv that is very clunky to get through smart menus just to get to the core functionality.
Show my BluRays or Consoles on the HDMI port.

    • Fine if you have a laptop and a HDMI cable .

    • -1

Get smart DVD/Bluray player and it will give you lot more options than the Chromcast plus more HDMI ports allowing you to connect your Chromcast to TV through the DVD player HDMI.
Mind you the video quality through Chromcast is not always great and is directly relate to you WiFi signal strength.

  • Mum requires a good sized telly with a good picture. By the sounds of it this ticks both boxes!

  • Thanks for posting.
This looks like a good deal, especially if you get that $100 gift card by spending an extra $3.

  • +1

Nice price for a branded non smart TV. Don't need smart features just get a cheap android box or Chromecast on HDMI.

Never understood why people pay top price for smarts

    • +1

SO I can hard wire my TV direct to the internet and don't have to go via a separate tablet/phone and wifi. Easier for the less tech-savvy members of my household (wife, kids).

      • +1

All you need to do is turn your wife and kids to ozbargainer as well.

Money saved can go to mortgage :)

    • Also, may be some issues with Chromecast and lack of HDMI ports.

      • True even the cheap Soniq ones has 3 HDMIs. There are myths that Smart TV tend to fail faster than non smart TV. Less electronics I suppose lol

  • anyone found something good for $3?

  • How does the Samsung compare to this smart tv?

4 hdmi would have been better

  • That's a low price, and an even lower refresh rate. 50hz…boy is that gonna be bumpy.

    • +1

Are most movies and shows not still recorded @ <= 50Hz?

      • I dont know yeah. Just to my eyes, if the screen is that big it needs to be 120hz or higher for the smoothness.

        • +4

I actually hate the artificial smoothness that sets add to 50Hz content. I always turn it off. YMMV.

        • @ferguscan: Yeah fair enough too.

  • anyone know what year this was released? (series 5, seems like 2013/2014?)

this Samsung or TCL L48D2700F 48 Inch? (Samsung would be a little bit more)

  • +1

Model is UA50J5100AW, The 48" 6000 series has been close to this price in the last few months a few times, the smart features are laggy but the 100hz is good once you turn the settings down.

  • Hi

I am after cheapest 65" inch TV, non branded model is fine. Ultra HD is preferred.
After bargaining I got $1,680 from The Good Guys for a brand new UHD LED TCL E5900 model, and most likely I would take this.

The other option is SONIQ UHD from JB-HIFI for $1,298 (no discount at all) RRP is $1,999.

I am using both AppleTV and Android TV Box with Kodi a lot.

Does anyone have any experience on these 2 models? How good they are in terms of picture quality comparing to big brands such as Sony, LG and Samsung?

Comparing in the showrooms sometimes are unfair as they use their own videos so can not judge the visual quality apple-to-apple.

Does anyone have better options and prices? Please kindly advise.

    Many thanks.

    • Aldi has a 65in in their next catalogue. $1199

  • How is this TV for gaming (input lag)? This model has been popping up here for quite a while but no real detailed review. Would be interested in opinions of the TV from people who have bought this model =)

  • Great price! The only down side would be only 2 HDMI for those with multiple gaming consoles, but still it's great value.

    • +1

Just plug/unplug? It's not like you can play 2 consoles at once…

      or get a HDMI splitter?

      • I've damage a PS3 by plug and unplugging only about 5 times!

  • Sold out by the looks of it.

  • +2

    This has come back up.

Just purchased for the same price.

  • when do we get the 100$ store credit, i bought 700$ stuff, cant see anything in the email
    thanks

    • I think the deal ends tonight, so I guess they'll start processing them next week.
