    And pay with your AMEX

    • I saw that the link you have posted showed that the Supercheap $20 off when you spend $100 offer from Amex being expired - it's still active in my Amex offers - did they do 2 different expiry dates for the offer I wonder?

      • +2

Probably the offer to save it to your card expires but once saved you have some time to use it. Mine is still on my card and says it expires 3rd September.

        • Nice one, cheers.

      • +1

Buy a giftcard for $100. Use it for the next sale.

  • +1

Need a battery too, thanks :D

    • I got mine at local beau-repairs, and was cheaper than i was expecting. Something like $106. Might be worth giving them a ring.

      • Tyrepower too, paid $140 w/ no negotiation/sales for a Century 55D23L the other week. ~$3.20 cheaper even than it would be 20% off at SCA and I'd much rather support them for not inflating their prices.

        • Ah yes, Tyrepower !
          Didn't think of that.
I've rung around and they'll do $149 for my NS60 century
SCA should be $135.20 so i'll hang tight for the weekend

Thanks for the suggestion though :)

    • I hope the 20% off doesn't exclude batteries. I remember when repco had a special like this it excluded batteries.

    • Big W do car batteries from $65. Combine with cash rewards egift card..

Or local wreckers from $20 (Google how to read the age Of a battery from date code).

  • Cool. Presumably store stock only, not online?

    • +9

Should be both. Normally is afaik

Side note, who the hell reported this as a dupe lol

      • I think it normally excludes the parts search section. I wonder if this applies in store or not?

I want some Bosch windscreen wipers.

        • +1

The best Bosch wiper blades (IMHO) are the Aerotwins. Unfortunately, SCA don't sell these. The closest thing they sell is the Tridon FlexBlade.

        • Check out the bosch store lowest price for aerotwins and free express shipping over $50.

  • +1

So, had to buy a car battery today,

Can't you get them wholesale through work?

    • +1

Not at that sort of rate lol

  • +2

That's pretty awesome of him to tell you about the sale. Is that something they'd be told to say to get people in, in case they buy more stuff during the sale, as in told to, by corporate, or, do you think he was just a nice dude? What do people think?

I like to ponder over things like this..

    • +1

      Nice guy I think
If he price-matched Autobahn at $170 I'd probably be annoyed when it was $157 on the weekend!
Still bought it at full price but I'll get $38 credit back

    • +8

I work in retail too, if I knew that there was going to be a sale shortly and someone was making a large purchase (and they were nice!) then I would quietly mention to them about the upcoming savings they could make.

    • +1

Having worked at SCA before they would specifically not tell us when these 20% off sales were until like maybe a week before. Not sure if they do this so other auto stores don't have time to rebut with there own sale or that they knew staff would tell customers about the sale. Personally I did what Flying Ace mentioned and my manager didn't mind and would also actually go out of his way to tell our regular customers. I think it might have changed now though with the club plus card because I would imagine corporate would rather customers had store credit than savings.

  • Thanks need a battery champ

  • Thanks OP, I'm in the market for a car battery too!

  • Looks like we need a battery group buy lol

Well I opted for a Century battery with 3yr warranty, $195 normally, $170 at Autobahn, $157 on the weekend

    • +7

FYI..The Repco batteries are just re-badged century batteries. I didn't believe the shop assistant until she peeled off the Repco label and the Century label was underneath!! They can become quite cheap when Repco have their 30% off sales (and don't exclude batteries) - 20% off at the moment https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/255477

      • You'd be amazed at how many things are the same item with either a different shell and/or label.

Or how some items are exactly the same thing except one is watered down to thousands of times less concentration.

In rare cases the same item is sold as two completely different things (that seem completely unrelated) at jaw droppingly different prices.

  • Any good wiper inserts?

    • Probably :) 20% isn't a huge saving on wipers, but a saving nonetheless!

  • I've been meaning to buy a car battery as well. The past 2-3 batteries have been purchased and installed by the RAC but I'm only getting 3 years out of them. Any recommendations for a 6 cylinder Commodore?

    • +2

3 years is pretty decent still… Batteries usually die in the winter as that's when they suffer more.

      • I've seen original VW DIN92 VATAR AGM on 3.2L V6 last for 10 full years!

        • I haven't just seen but have a VW battery that lasted >10 years now. Probably on its last leg though.

      • Put a charge on a battery once every 2 months (and keep topped up with water twice per year) and it will last 10 years easily.

In fact, summer is when a battery drains faster. But trying to use it in the cold can expose problems as the reaction is slower.

When it gets sluggish, tip upside down in bucket and keep, thenflush out (yes it's acid, be vary careful), let lead settle to bottom of bucket, then poor clean liquid back in. Turf lead sludge at the bottom. Top up with water. This will get you 15 years+

Lastly, Big W do exide batteries for under $80. Further discount with cashrewards.

    • +1

      Bosch.

      • they have a good warranty too - i had a look for our vehicle and the minimum was 2 years - YMMV

        • Yes Bosch sealed batteries are great
Had them for four years and still green- means excellent condition.
Worth paying extra four that sort of quality

    • +3

I've used Supercharge (http://www.supercharge.com.au/) batteries for a while now. Good warranty (40 months for Gold Plus and 30 months for Silver Plus) and maintenance free while not being ridiculously expensive.

      • Note that you can't buy Supercharge batteries at Super Cheap Auto. Autobarn stocks them.

        • Supercharge will also sell direct from their offices.

      • +1

The first supercharge battery supposed lasted 6 years in the 2006 Civic. I replaced it with the same Supercharge gold after that, hoping it will last just as long. well priced and decent battery from my limited experience. 40 month warranty is nice too

    • I didn't realise the 3 years was standard. Thanks to everybody for their suggestions. :)

      • Hmm. I get 5 years at least from mine. Do you keep the fluid topped up?

        • Do you have a big V6 or V8?

Three years is about normal for a Commodore. I proactively replace mine after 4 years or immediately if I ever buy a second hand car.

        • @LoopyLou:

I have a 4 cyl Hyundai Accent. Less stress on the battery during cranking and running, and less heat under the bonnet I guess.

        • @LoopyLou:
Why do you replace it if still working?

        • @LoopyLou: the worse battery I ever bought lasted 8 years. Where do you live, hot climate?

    Any Bargains?

Grab your scientific calculator and take a look for yourself if you're so interested, JV.

    • Yes.

  • +1

Interesting, I'd check your pricing before purchase, was looking at Ridge Ryder Air Compressor last night, I could swear it was like $170-180, now back to retail and after 20% off will be more expensive than their recent (ie this week's) price.
    http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Ridge…

But Maxtrax which I haven't seen on special recently will now be better off.

    • Thanks OP got me 2 sets of maxtrax at $239 each pair

  • Hmmmm, need to get some tyres soon and Kmart Tyre and Auto Service (KTAS) could not find stock of my Continental Comfort Plus 5 (225/55/R16) for my car. They were going to price match and beat the current Jax Quickfit Buy 3 get one free deal. Might go see if they will match the Supercheap Auto deal as I also get free wheel rotations with KTAS for the life of my tyres. Still have to research the 'alternative' tyres they were offering me though.

    • +4

Supercheap don't sell tyres… Do they?!

    • Get the Continentals you can't go wrong.

  • -2

Baffled how an unconfirmed sale translates to so many positives.

    • +9

I would hope my reputation around here proves I'm not bullshitting and wasting everyone's time with this post.

      • -3

Well I suggest you remove the "unconfirmed".

        • +2

No can do until it's confirmed. Mods added it, likely due to lack of info (at this stage).
Still got 4 days to go to get info and a link :)

        • Yes sorry, [unconfirmed] is only present due to the lack of official confirmation and information of the deal from Supercheap Auto. The offer may be changed or have different information since it's not officially announced (albeit unlikely).

Certainly nothing against the OP Spackbace who is 100% reliable.

      • +8

I would hope my reputation around here proves I'm not bullshitting and wasting everyone's time with this post.

This is why I love ozbargain. The only online community that has faith in a used car salesman.

        • +4

          :)
And I'm a new car salesman, jees get it right :P

        • +4

@Spackbace: just as I thought used car sales man can be trusted from Tightbottom's comment. U have to state the obvious that you're a new car sales man ;-(

  • Auto Bahn currently have battery on sale

    • And this is what started this post in the first place

gonna get the guy to price match Autobahn

BTW it's autobarn most likely named after the German word autobahn

      • +2

I thought it might have been, was posting on mobile so just went with whatever autocorrect decided. It's ducked sometimes :P

  • +1

don't forget the 9% (2% cc surcharge) blatchys rewards giftcards for those that got the free membership :)

  • +1

Thanks so much for posting - teenage daughter has just bought her first car and is the market for a few things. Perfect timing!

  • Any developments on this sale?

Just writing down a wishlist atm haha

    • Nope but still time…!

I looked through past SCA sales, generally the email went out only the day before it started.

Trust me, I'll be pissed if this doesn't go through… coz I bought a battery at full price :(

      • Ahh good to know - I have an oil change coming up so gotta buy jack, stands, filter and oil.

        Cheers Spackbace!

    • +1

      That's a big discount :)

    • I got the email from AU but it's 20% only.

      • Edit: See the post has been updated.

  • I'm eyeing some pressure washer for car washing as they are rarely go on sale. Any recommendation?

  • Confirmed. I have the email

    • Yep, just got the email. Woo :)

      • Edit: see your've updated the post.

      • Awesome, is it a member only thing or can anyone who walks in have 20% off?

        • +1

Worst comes to worst, you sign up while you're there. But it doesn't state members only

        • @Spackbace:

Ok cheers, it's just that I don't know where I put my SCA card so I'm assuming if I don't have it they can just look me up in the system?

        • +1

          @montorola:
Often they won't bother to ask but if you offer it i.e. "don't have my club card", your mobile number is normally what they use.

        • +1

          @montorola:

          Yep, just mobile number :)

Worth doing it anyway for the receipt-free warranty

  • This will pair well with the Amex offer.

  • Was contemplating driving 10 mins to my nearest supercheap while I was at the Repco store as I urgently needed a new battery.. Ended up getting it at Repco and now supercheap has a sale which I could have got the difference back. $35 gone :(

    • Car batteries are so dear. Mine recently died in the cold snap and after shopping around I ended up buying a near new one from my local wreckers and saved $160 on the Supercheap/Autobarn prices.

      • that's so neat man. I was hard pressed for time and needed one fairly quickly for a job interview so could not do any of that.

  • So the discount is not applicable for online shopping?

    • Yeah, it does now that it's after midnight as it is now the 23/7 .

  • -5

No bargain for me. Was looking at this head unit which was $114 when you first posted this deal (4 days ago), matching the same price at JB. Now it's $159 and after discount it comes down to $129, more expensive that the non discounted JB price. Hate it when retailers jack up prices before a 'sale'. Negging because this deal isn't really a deal, others were saying the same thing as well. Nothing against you @Spackbace.

    • +3

It's 1 item out if the whole store and the sale specifically says the discount is off RRP. Did you really expect a further 20% off sale prices?

others were saying the same thing as well.

Where? Most people commenting are happy to get 20% off batteries etc where it's a sizable discount on something that's hardly ever on sale

A person few comments above. Again, nothing against you. Just wanting others to look elsewhere as well as SCA before purchasing because these 'sales' can end up being more expensive than other retailers for some items.
