Telstra BYO Mx $40/Month - 5GB / Unlimited SMS (Non-Targeted)

130

Not as great as the Amway EOFY deal but only 12 month contract and probably the best you can get right now. Available earlier as a targetted offer now appears to be available via link. Note: reverts to $50 after 12 months.

  • prepaid plan looks better.

And you can spend your $40 on the app store! :D

      • Does that mean each month you have $40 worth of google play store credit??? And does it rollover?

        • +1

          Correct.

        • @NickFritz:

Do you have to spend the 40 in the same month? Or can you spend 80 after 2 months, 120 after 3 months etc. Etc.

          @Jackal:
maximum $100 per month, but you can ask to lift it.

        • @lovbargain:

Don't suppose credit can be used on google store for physical items as well?

Otherwise what's to stop people using stored up credit from prepaid plans over 24 months to buy a $899 nexus 6p?

OVO looks like a better deal at this point if you don't need the Telstra network.

$35 for 8GB and unlimited calls and sms

    • Yeah I guess the deal assumes you need/want Telstra

  • +3

$40 Freedom Plus gives you 6GB (although as 3GB Day, 3GB Night) with Unlimited SMS/Talk and you can use it on Google Play. However, you need to use the auto-recharge function so it is per month, instead of the 28 day rubbish that most telcos are doing these days!

This is a deal against the usual $50 price, but isn't a good deal against other Telstra deals.

    New accounts only??

  • +1

New accounts only. I'm still on the $50 no contract 5GB deal from earlier. I swear i need to switch plans

    • I'm on $40 1GB (which was a great deal 12 months ago including an S5 that's still sitting in it's box somewhere) and that's only because someone doesn't like screwing around with prepaid.

New accounts only….The chat guys will generally help you out, or worst case scenario just port out and then back in again.

I've just hit "new phone feeling" so might hold off changing anything until the new iPhone is released.

      • No need for the new accounts, I had 1 month left on contract and switched to this :) live chat did it without any issues

Got a text from them today about being a loyal customer, and to "reward" me they offered to upgrade me to a $50/5gb plan. Hilarious considering I'm on $40/7.5gb.

  • They are forcing me to pay the handset cost… 10 months remaining to contract end.

Nup, not as good as this for existing customers https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/259574#comment-3893182

  • sorry, off topic:
I can't make Telstra billing work [for Freedom Plus] for Google play- says I am not eligible, going to Telstra -guy says there is no block on my account. Any ideas?
    Much appreciated,
    Rad

    • Ask the telstra guy to check your carrier billing spend limit. It should be $500 per month

    • I think this happened to me when I switched phones, from memory I phoned them up and they texted me new internet settings that my phone detected and applied, then when I reset my phone, it had no trouble adding Bill My Telstra Account as a pay method.

  • Prepaid = no bill shock

  • Just managed to waive my remaining month contract and renew into the Mx plan as an existing customer
