    No band 28 (700)

    • +15

Correct, not a deal breaker though. Many people can back me up in that it is excellent reception wise, given no band 28.

      • +10

Reception is perfect, in fact great phone all round except for the camera which is shite.

        • +6

On MIUI 8 global developer on mine and it isn't shite anymore. In fact in good light it is actually "good". Low light is still pretty bad though. Reception has been great and the phone is really quick

      • +1

I've had one of these phones for several months, not an issue at all. I'm in Sydney and also used it in Germany, England and Hungary while on holiday earlier this year with no problems getting 4G reception. If you don't live on a remote farm, band 28 doesn't matter. It's importance is blown way out of proportion.

Also, there is actually a band 28 version of this phone if you actually need it. I think only the 16gb version though.

    • +9

Doesn't bother me in the least. Get great 4G+ with mine.

      • what actually is 4G+? Always thought B28/700MHz was 4G+ but I know I don't have it I see it all the time near the CBD

        • +1

Last time I looked it up, it uses two 4G bands simultaneously. My Xiaomi Note 3 indicated it was doing 4G+, but it does not have band 28.

        • +2

I guess you can blame Optus for that :P

And if you’re in Australia, maybe you’ve heard of Optus’ “4G Plus“, which is an entirely different thing. What they call 4G Plus is really just a fancy name for their 4G LTE network.

What the Heck Do 4G+, 4GX, XLTE, LTE-A, and VoLTE Mean?

    • +2

Band 28 "Special Edition" is $375 on ebay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/282087389836

It's ~AUD$250 on the Taiwanese site: http://www.mi.com/tw/note3/ so he'd be making at least $100 per phone.
      Haven't seen it on Aliexpress.

      Can even get a 5.0" ZUK Z2 SD820 4GB/64GB FHD for a cheaper ~AUD$360 . http://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-zuk-z2-4gb-64gb

      • +10

You forgot ebay fees + Paypal fees? Shipping is with DHL/Toll which is ~$25 already + shipping cost from Taiwan to warehouse in HK + agent fees + fees for agent to handle warranty if phone has issues + foreign exchange fees (you know this phone and the shipping cost is in a foreign currency do you?). No one is working for free along the chain.

Many post office in Asia (HK and Taiwan) still do not want to change their policy and will NOT accept any device with battery. There are much work involved to gain access to this phone.

If you want to blame, go and blame ebay for being ridiculous with their fees (~10%) then paypal for another 2.6% and then your greedy bank for 5+% markup on their exchange rate.

        Found a B28 2GB/16GB Redmi Note 3i Pro for ~AUD$215 (US$165) on aliexpress:
        http://www.aliexpress.com/item/International-Version-Xiaomi-…

        • +2

Yea, unfortunately the store hasn't been active enough to be eligible to be posted on here. I've purchased two items from that particular shop though, still waiting to receive the items. Items were sent quickly so can definitely vouch.

        • +3

          @PR0r:

How can you vouch for them if you haven't received the items yet??

        • @gooddealmate: The items were sent quickly. It's coming from China.. so far, so good. The store also has great feedback since it's been operating.

        • +1

I have not been able to confirm this phone that they are selling. I have asked them but as expected from these Chinese seller, they don't even know what they are selling. No idea which ROM this phone is running on.

If anyone bought this phone, can you check the product codename in fastboot mode. The one with Band 28 is codename "kate" and should run Android 6 Marshmallow, the standard one is "kenzo" which run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Xiaomi has not officially released any special edition which is 2GB+16GB as you can check on their Taiwan website. There is possibility that they have listed wrong spec for their phone. But also a possibility that Xiaomi has this version unofficially as what they did with Mi Max 16GB

If you are happy with 2GB RAM which may be lagging then go for it.

        • Any 3/32GB versions? Very keen for one of those but I can't find one. Does the special edition come in that version?

      • -1

Found an ebay TW seller for the B28 3GB/32GB RN3P at xda-developers. Bad news is it's US$288 (AUD$376) before shipping, however you can make an offer.

        Then get yourself one:
        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201628827931 (grey)
        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201639509692 (gold)

I talked with this reseller on eBay, it is definitely Kate, coming straight from TW.
He said he can deliver in all colors, also that it is already released in TW and he can deliver immediately, worldwide with a few > exceptions.

        Price is negotiable.

        • Too pricey now that the Zenfone 3 is out with significantly better camera and only marginally more expensive.

        • @scubacoles: About $100 more expensive. I wouldn't call it "marginal" difference. That's huge for a $200 phone.

        • @motor89:
About $20 difference for the 5.2"

        • @scubacoles: or About $200 difference for the 5.2" ZE520KL on ebay and it is not even that much "better" unless you are talking about the more expensive 5.5 one.

        • +1

          @motor89:
          Eh?
          You're arguing about a different item…
I'm comparing the Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition at $355 (after discount) to the Zenfone 3 5.2" at $399 (before discount) or the 5.5" at $430 (before discount)….
The $200 Redmi Note 3 Pro is irrelevant for those that hanker for band 28!

        • +2

          @samehada:
My point is that you can get a better camera, more RAM, more Internal storage at the price of a marginally slower SoC for slightly more dollars…
In my opinion, the Special Edition Redmi is overpriced at $350 given that competition. I think a $300 price difference to the International Edition is probably too much given the sole improvement is an additional Band support.

        • @samehada:

          Who da man!

        • AUD$338-shipped for B28 3GB/32GB RMN3P (~AUD$376 - 10% off coupon ends today) from following Taiwan links:

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201628827931 (grey)
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201639509692 (gold)

Seller also has the Make Offer button available keeping in mind this phone has a ~AUD$250 (NT$5999) RRP in Taiwan http://www.mi.com/tw/note3/

Posted for those that must have B28. Otherwise the OP deal is fabulous.

        • Grey sold out. Only has gold and silver AU$338 B28 3GB/32GB RMN3P units now:

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201639513773 (silver)
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201639509692 (gold)

        • @Cheaparoo: Good luck with that, $318 USD.

        • @samehada:

B28/700Mhz RMNP 'Special Edition' is now being sold by geekbuying for AU$193-2GB/16GB and AU$242-3GB/32GB. See https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/261669

        • @Cheaparoo: There is still NO confirmation that it is actually "kate". Listing stated HK stock and Mi HK only sell standard edition "kenzo"

      • +1

95% of people will be just fine with the deal posted by the OP.

does this have 850mhz and 900mhz? for optus voda and telstra?

      yesh

      • +2

Awesome! Even Sean Connery uses OzBargain

  • +2

How does this differ from the many selling on ebay for $245, shipping from Australia, add 10% ebay code + cashrewards seems cheaper

    • no different, the current ebay discount destroys any benefit from overseas shipping

      • Any examples?

      • +2

Aliexpress does have 7% cashback though.

    • +1

Have you got a link to an example listing? Can Only find China or HK shipping locations from search. Cheers

      • I was looking at this one: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-REDmi-NOTE-3-PRO-3GB-RAM-D…

        3GB ram/ 32GB storage/ SD650/ 16MP seems likes its the prime

Edit: these sellers are based in HK, so no different to aliexpress. Only issue is what rom they send it out with is not specified

        • That estimated time is misleading, it is added automatically by ebay based on sellers location and the shipping option sellers have in their listing.

    • Can you provide a link, please? I seem to only see China shipped ebay models.

Edit: yes ship from hk, but still seems cheaper using ebay code and cashrewards. Which would you pick?

        • hi the item says express post and location Australia? nothing in the ad says it is coming from HK?

        • +3

          @hpkv:

I went through the sellers feedback (the negative), and the phones are shipping from overseas, and the store description states it is based in HK

        • @Joysky: thanks for looking into the shipping

        • Good point regarding PayPal. I literally just bought this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/272271729205
          -White
          -3GB/32GB
-with protector and case for $250 (includes 10%)

Happy with that, all in all, from what seems to be reputable seller and they don't mislead about postage!

        • @sirgazzatron:

          Nice!
You didn't go for the other sellers who are also from HK and slightly better feedback % for the extra protector and case right?

White or black, such a hard choice!

        • i bought from this guy before. phone ship from hk but only take 3 days to arrive by dhl. phone is sealed with global rom.

    • +1

I think the 245 ones shipped from Oz are lacking "Prime"

      • +3

We can buy a primer from Bunnings to prime it.

      • What does the "Prime" entail?

        • Prime is an unofficial moniker that some eBay sellers use to designate the higher ram/ROM models from the regular version. Eg 2gb/16gb is regular, 3gb/32gb is "prime".

        • -2

Prime is supposed to have a Mediatek chip and Pro is supposed to have a SD 650.

        • @salem:

And inadvertently confuse everyone further. Hella annoying!

        • @motor89:

          oh dear.

The Redmi Note 3 is Mediatek.

The Redmi Note 3 Pro is Snapdragon 650.

As stated above, "prime" is used unofficially by some sellers to indicate the versions with more RAM and internal storage, i.e. the 3GB RAM + 32GB versions.

Thus, you might see a Mediatek Redmi Note 3 with "prime" in it's name, which would be the 3GB+32GB version of the Mediatek Note 3.

You might see a Snapdragon Redmi Note 3 Pro with "prime" in it's name, which would be the 3GB+32GB version of the Snapdragon Note 3 Pro.

Hope I've got that right and explained it clearly.

          Which do you want?
Consensus is always go for the Snapdragon Pro models. If you can afford the "prime" version with 3GB RAM you'll have a pretty sweet piece of kit which might be the best bang-for-buck phone out there… At least in the $200-$250 category.

    • For those sellers that have shipping from Australia, do a google search of their seller name and see what comes up. I was looking at a few previously that said they had local warranty and shipped from Aus, but a google search yielded different results

    • +2

Just want to point out with ebay, can pay via PayPal hence transaction protected by paypal and free postage for return

Bought from aliexpress and dreami recently and no problem but some people find more comfortable to deal with paypal.

    • +2

None of these sellers are from Australia, all the phones are shipped from oversea. They just created eBay Australia account. And make sure you don't buy the MTK listing instead of Snapdragon 650.

  • There's an international version that supports band 28(700).

    • +1

      At a much higher price.

      • +1

because Xiaomi stupidly price their product much higher in market outside China. You can check Mi Singapore for Mi5 price, ridiculous price for that phone.

  • does this have a gyro ?

edit: it doesnt seem to from what i can see.. i might've pulled the trigger if it did - need gyro for pokemon go tho !

    • +1

Mine has a gyro & works perfectly fine with Pokemon GO.

    • mine also have gryo

      • Thanks for the comments and info, guys ! Never easy to find out if the phone does or doesnt (i couldnt find it anywhere on the page) so cheers for that info, so just to be clear, it works in AR mode with poke-go ?

        • +2

          Works like a charm

    • +11

      Mine comes with Souvlaki

    • +1

Can confirm it has a gyro, bought one a week ago and received it 6 days later (paid for DHL).

      Pokemon Go works flawlessly.

Although I unlocked the bootloader (unofficially), flashed TWRP + Cyanogenmod 13 for Kenzo. It's soooooooo good.

  • +1

Pretty sure it had gyro. All redimi 3 have it. Google it

  • +2

i got it from ebay few days ago for $250 with 1 year Australian warranty, on Optus i get 4g+ and seriously no complaints at all. I am android custom rom/kernel developer and a Samsung lover but seriously after using this phone i am impressed with its performance and build quality.

    • +2

Do you mind posting the ebay listing please

  • +1

I have a Samsung Note 3. Would this phone be a noticeable upgrade for me? Any advice much appreciated.

    • -1

watch youtube comparison videos to see difference

      • no such videos exist ….

Was hoping for someone who might have knowledge of both

        • Same. Very interested. Currently tossing up getting a note 7 but really happy with the note 3 but she has seen better days

    • +3

I upgraded mine from a Samsung Note 3, battery life is heaps better. Rear camera is probably on par or just a little bit better, front camera is a big improvement. Everything else is fine, real smooth and fast. But then again my Samsung Note 3 was on it's way out and was really slow. I think it's worth the upgrade for this price, can't go wrong.

  • -4

~AUD$233 (UK$137) is the cheapest grey 3GB/32Gb version I found at
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141837856503

Using 10% off with ebay coupon brings it to ~AUD$210.

Gold color can be had for ~AUD$185(US$142) at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/259720

    • +5

That phone uses the Helio X10 processor, not Snapdragon 650 like this deal.

        • +3

You know the deal you just linked is for Redmi 3 Pro not the NOTE one.

        • +2

          @samehada:
          WHoops.. pls disregard.

        • the cheapest that i could find is $249 AU for a Silver.

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-3-Pro-Prime-5-5…

        • @hpkv:

Nice, so with the 10% off alone, it is $224, possibly one% cheaper with cashrewards.

Sending a dud back for warranty will likely be a pain for either so which is a safer bet?

Ebay has paypal so slightly safer in the first 60 days?
While aliexpress is geared slightly more towards the buyer?

        • +1

Id rather use paypal than using my CC with Aliexpress. Have no experience buying from Aliexpress so can't really comment.

  • What's the camera like on this; can anyone comment?

    • +3

Not great, but it does the job. I wouldn't be buying this phone based on the camera alone. Probably the weakest point of the phone. I use this phone daily, outside it takes beautiful shots. Low light it definitely lacks. The front facing camera is great in my opinion.

      • one other thing then; battery life?

        • +6

Amazing, I get 2 days comfortably.

        • +1

@PR0r: very nice to hear ! thanks for the info

        • +2

my missus gets 9+ hours screen on time. on cyanogenmod

Hello OP are this bloatware/malware free?
Can't stand the shit/spam/installations I had on my last Chinese phone order.

    • +6

There's no bloat. The seller will install the official global stable ROM which has Google apps installed. This ROM is also updated frequently.

      • thanks

    • if you dont mind my asking, which phone/order was that? Ive ordered a few chinadroids now and found them okay but interested to know your experience

      • +4

lenovo K3 note. extremely painful experience!

        • ah piss i was hoping u werent going to say that, i just ordered that exact phone for my sis.. sigh

she's not used to any other phone tho so it might be okay but.. yeah.. sigh..

that really was the one phone i hoped u didnt say lol

        • @Iggemo:

You can wipe the rom and install something freshly if it's a pain. Mine had this adware cleaner which was actually an un-deletable spy app.

If you don't know how to do it, take it to your local Asian phone service place and tell them which custom rom you'd like (they'll probably know it anyway), and they can install it for you for $25-30 I reckon.
