Plantronics Backbeat Go 2 Bluetooth Headset - $59.20 after 20% off @ PC Byte eBay

550
Choice20

Hi,
Saw this as I was browsing for good deals. After discount it's down to $59.20. Pretty good deal and cheaper than currently what's on selling in JB or Officeworks.

Also checked historical purchase from other buyers and looks like they didn't jack up the price for this item.

Good reviews as well found here.

Wanted to upgrade from my Mpow Wolverine headset so I figured to give this a try.

    • Oh I really hate my autocorrect sometimes.
      Fixed thanks

  • How do these compare to Jaybirds? Anyone had both?

    • +1

I have tried both the Jaybird X2 and the Plantronics BackBeat GO 2 and here are my 2 cents: the plantronics FEEL bulky, I use the word feel because it's actually very similar sized to the jaybirds. The biggest difference is that plantronic's version of the 'fin tips' are nowhere near as good as jaybird's fins. Jaybird's fins are actually shaped towards the grooves in your ear, whereas the plantronic fins are kind of just shitty plastic loops that are meant to fit into your ears' grooves, but don't do a good job. Secondly, I find that using the over-ear set up with the jaybirds has a much greater feel. It might just be me, but it feels less bulky and in my way. The plantronics does not have this option. Sound quality wise, neither are spectacular but Jaybird is a clear winner. The plantronics sounded shitty out of the box, but after a while it was okay? Not sure if I just got used to it.

Also jaybird x2's have much better battery life.

I'm assuming you got your Jaybird X2's via a previous Amazon deal? Really want them but not keen on the $150+ price tag.

      • Thanks heaps Port. I'm in the same boat love my Jaybird original flavour but struggle with the high price.

That said I use them for 15 hours per week so till something as good or better comes along for cheaper I think ill stick with then.

      • I've had the BackBeat Go. I agree they feel bulky. And I bought them for exercise, and they often slip out if you are jogging, even light. At least in my ears.
The Backbeat Fit however is a excellent product, with additional battery life, and stay firmly in the ear.

I probably should have bought a pair of Jaybird X2s and posted the Amazon link a few weeks back when they had it for about $90USD + delivery..

Your feedback about the sound quality of BBG2 vs. the X2s are consistent with what I have read, I'm tempted to jump on this deal with that price, however.

        • +1

I saw them at $112 USD with delivery (official seller) and I still didn't want to jump on it. I have seen them around $90 but those aren't officially from jay bird, honestly my biggest concern is fake Jaybird X2's unless it's from jaybird on Amazon buying it off a reseller is risky, all the crappy reviews have been mixed with people purchasing fake so that's why even though I see them on $120 on eBay I've stayed away.

        • You can get the official Jaybird products from Co-op bookshop. I guess it's the only official dealer in Australia. I bought mine from there and very happy about their sound and battery quality. Don't buy it from Amanzon or ebay as you can only get full Australian warranty from this store.

i've had the 1st gen BBG, BBG2 and 1st gen jaybirds.

prefer the sound of the plantronics sets over the jaybirds but jaybirds have twice the battery life of the bbg. people on the other end of the line have no complaints about hearing me with either headset

i also prefer the operation of the 1st gen BBG i.e. you don't have voice overs interrupting your music every time you hit the volume buttons as well as not having to hold down buttons as long to turn off/on.

fit-wise, i can't complain about either plantronics or jaybirds. i don't use those fins or ear stabilisers as they fit and stay in my ears.

on a somewhat related note, don't bother paying more for the little charging case. you can't charge the headset and use them at the same time.

      • i forgot to mention something about longevity. been using the BBG's from this deal for two years now and i would say battery life these days is around 3.5 to 4 hours. aside from dirt marks (white just isn't a flattering colour lol) and some of the soft-touch coatings peeling off (probably from me wiping them down every day), it's in great condition. you can just barely feel bits of the rubber missing from the cable. back of the neck seems to be the abrasion point.

  • thanks got the black pair

  • Grabbed a white pair until i find a good jaybird x2 deal :)

  • I got these last year…to be honest, not the greatest. sound quality is ho-hum and I can't get any of the in-ear seals to work properly. if you're sitting still, they're ok. but if you're walking with these in your ear, the silicon seals keep moving. also, the microphone is not noise-cancelled, so you end up with lots of wind noise when using it for a phone call while walking- this doesn't affect your audio, but whoever you're talking keeps asking you to repeat yourself…

  • I rather buy the Meizu EP51 for $20 less. It looks and sounds better.

    • +1

      Where is it $20 less?

      • +1

Here. I bought them as well.

        • Thanks! Did you order them a while ago/are they good?

        • @Librarier: I haven't tried either but if the sound quality is the same then its all down for $20 if you want local stock or imported (want it right away or not).

Wish there is a way to test the sounds to compare though

        • The Meizu EP51 has better sound quality because it has a built-in Apt-X digital audio compression algorithm technology.

        • @Librarier: Only ordered them yesterday. There's people that own them that have commented about the heahphones on the deal.

        • @stubatman: if you bought both Meizu and Plantronics let us know the difference in sound.

        • @PW:
You made me curious and found this interesting article of apt-x vs SBC codecs. All subjective in this article.

  • I've been looking for some budget wireless earphones, but was turned off these based on the somewhat average reviews. Now considering the Brainwavz BLU-100 or 200. Anyone here have experience with those?

    • +1

Have been using the BLU-100 since last November, got it off mp4nation when they sold it of a mere USD 22.50 and have to say for that kind of price - it's a really nice, value-for-money wireless earphones.

Battery life could be longer and I really hate their charging indicator ( it's a white LED that is only visible when you look at it from a certain angle ) but other than that, I really have no qualms with it.

Comes with a really nice hard-ish travel case ( I think all Brainwavz product does? Not sure ) as well so it's really hard to lose / damage it during travel.

  • +1

I've had mine for two years now. Battery life originally was about 4.5 hours. Now its about 3. I do quite like it though and I went back to these even though I got a pair of Jabra Rox (horrible). The Cable on the Backbeat Go is longer than the Jabra by an inch or so and makes a hell of a lot of difference in not getting these tangled with other stuff.

    • Jabra Rox horrible, just the cable or everything too, such as the sound, etc? Please tell me more about this, as I'm interested to buy one

    • Hmmm, i guess that i have been using mine more or i am unlucky. Mine last about one hour and they are 1.5 years old.

    • I am not a fan of the Jabra Rox - it is still sitting on my desk as home as I went back to this. I find the Rox not fitting into my ears too well with or without the included wings. I've tried all the combination of sizes of the silicone buds and wings and they all fall off whenever I put down my bag or shift my jacket a bit. I compared it back to the BB GO2 and the biggest difference was about an inch of cable that will allow more flex whenever I shift my neck or something.
Sound wise, I prefer the BBGo2 more as well and seems to have a better range than the Rox. The only advantage of the Rox is the magnetic clip that clips both buds together when not in use. The Rox seem to disconnect easier to the phone (and doesnt like to reconnect unless you restart it).

I do use the BBGo2 quite often (I commute to work on public transport).. but I alternate between the BBGo2 and BB Pro (Over-Ears) depending on mood. The only downside with the BBGo2 is the battery for sure.

  • Doesn't look like it has the portable charger/pouch.

    • +1

The pouch is pretty useless.. Its only half a charge to give you another hour or so.

    • The extra $30 you'd pay simply isn't worth it. You could buy a decent Xiaomi power bank like the compact 5000mah and get more value out of it

  • +2

    I have so much trouble with in-ear earbuds. It's difficult to find anything that;
    a. fits securely without falling out every few minutes
    b. doesn't cause pain

I'd love to find a good set that suit me for the noise isolation properties, but for now I tend to just use clip-on types.

    • +1

I wonder if conform tips might help?

    • even the clips dig into your ears after some time.. Buds are just not that comfy but most use it for convenience.

      • I love them, find them comfy and the sound is the best I've heard from any headphone type.

I lost my silicon Jaybird tips so I pimped some DIY conform tips outta safety ear plugs and they work great. The buds stay in better than ever and the isolation is much approved. Worth a shot for nix.

  • How are these compare to Xiaomi Piston 3?

    • +2

      These are Bluetooth.

  • My girlfriend got me a pair of these for my birthday. They're really big and bulky and dont feel comfortable compared to wired headphones. They sound okay but I dont really use them for many reasons. I also had one short out and had to have the replaced (which was actually pretty easy). I wouldn't buy them if it were me. Just too uncomfortable

  • I already have a pair and really like them. Bought as a spare! Thanks OP

  • Does anyone have any feedback on how these compare to Jabra step?

  • -1

Had these in black. Looks ugly af and stopped using it after a few months

  • Okay I got my set and I must admit it's a really alot better than the Mpow Wolverine deapite having Apt-X digital audio. Only used it for a short time before I had to charge it.

I'll be reserving my opinion until I use it for a day.

    • How comfortable are these?

      • +1

Initial wear it seems okay. Everyone's correct in saying it feels big. I'll give it a go tomorrow for a few hours while I'm commuting.

Sound wise though they are a big step from the Mpow ones.

        • Thanks for your honest review. I personally prefer comfort over sound and that's why I bought QC35 over Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 Wireless. Are the Mpow wireless earphones more comfortable?

        • @PW: I'll admit Mpow feel slightly more comfortable then these. Could be due to the design. Doesn't feel as bulky as Plantronics.

But with the trade-off of sound I'll take the sound as it's better with a slightly less comfortable.
