ANZ QFF Black CC 75,000 QFF Points ($2,500 Spend in 3 Months) @ $0 First Year

1241

It's back, for those who last cancelled the ANZ credit card more than 12 months ago.

75,000 points when you spend $2,500 on purchases within the first 3 months.

For an example of what 75,000 points can get you, see thegeekinasuit's comment.

No annual fee for the first year.

There's some doubt as to whether this is applicable if you don't have an Internet Banking account with ANZ. Although it's labelled "Internet Banking Offer", nothing in the terms and conditions suggests this as an actual condition. Many anecdotes on this AFF forum thread also support the understanding that this offer is available even if you don't have an ANZ internet banking account. If you don't want to take the risk, open a free & no fee account with ANZ. Either way, the letter of offer will confirm whether you have an annual fee, and how much. Normal fee is $425.

Set a reminder for yourself to cancel before the 12 months mark. Or just cancel when you get your 75,000 bonus points.

Before you do, though, don't forget to claim this.

  • Get two complimentary Qantas Club lounge invitations each year for use when flying on Qantas or Jetstar.

Minimum income requirement for ANZ's Black cards seem to be $75,000. The minimum credit limit is $15,000.

This deal should be compatible with ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures CC + 40,000 Velocity Points + 1 Free Return Virgin Flight Per Year + No Int Trans Fees = $225 Fee if you want to double dip.

Update [18/10/2016]: I have received this card, and got verbal confirmation over the phone about eligibility for the waived annual fee 1st year and the 75,000 points promotion. I opened this account without having any other ANZ accounts (except a CC cancelled >12 months ago). Several others have also confirmed this in the comments.

    No it's not
You have to have ANZ account….this has been going last 3 months!
Account fees required if you don't get card before getting card!

    • Yeah, not certain. The part of the agreement that supports this is:

      1. Offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card account. … This is a limited time only offer available through internet banking which may be withdrawn or changed at any time without notice. … The Total Annual Fee, and any Additional Cardholder Fees and Rewards Program Services Fees applicable to additional cardholders on the account, will be waived for the first year.

Does "available through internet banking" specifically mean that you need to have another product / internet banking account, or just that you apply online?

Maybe I missed another pertinent clause?

      • +2

Were you able to confirm with them on the phone? lol

      • You definitely need to have an ANZ online account!
I confirmed that with the ANZ consultant and was told that once you're logged in online, to choose the Internet Product offer option that is available in the account and apply there to get the 1st year annual fee free.
If you only apply via the link without logging in, you'll be charged the full fee….

Hence PLANT is right, you'll need to have an ANZ account, can be any online account to get the card free for the 1st year. Though I'm not sure how long the promotion has been running as I do not have an account myself…

I guess an option to apply for an account first before applying for this credit card deal???

        • I applied for this 2 weeks ago. No existing ANZ account. Still no annual fee charged to my account.

      • Just called them and they said no savings account is required for this, but u must apply online and not over the phone.

        • Hope you've noted down the name of the person you spoke with.

    • +1

Last time I just created an account and applied for the card. Took all of 10 minutes.

      • Took them two days to make my internet banking account. And there is an account keeping fee if you deposit less than $2k a month

        • +1

There's no account keeping fee with the ANZ Progress Saver

        • @dazweeja:
Thanks for that. I'll change my account over.

        • @tanksinatra:

It's a bit useless for an account you might actually use but might be a good choice for a qualifying account.

        • @dazweeja:
So I'm right and neg because the details are wrong and my neg get revoked!
          Go Figure!

  • What's 75k QFF points equivalent to? Roughly aud 750 to book flight with Qantas?

    • +9

Depends on how you use it.
      * 75,000 could get you $434 in gift vouchers.
      * 9x one way flights between MEL-SYD +$35 in taxes and fees for each flight.
      * If you had an extra 15,000 points, 90,000 points will get you one way from MEL to Singapore + ~$350 in taxes and in First Class on Emirates A380 with a face value of $3,500.

    • +2

Recent QF award sale (about 2 months ago), I booked 3 return flights ADL to HK during CNY for 90000 points + $1000 fees

      • +1

i booked my flights SYD to Phuket business return 75000 points + A$412 tax

    • +4

The best value is to upgrade economy class to business or first class, not directly use the point to buy economy, business or first class. It will make 1 point value at least 4 cent, maximum around 8 cents. 75k points can upgrade both way to business class from Australia to Singapore or HongKong

      • +7

Not sure about "best value", you'd have to buy a full fare Economy ticket (which can be up to twice the price of an economy saver), then it's a lottery to get the upgrade and you're up against people with higher status assuming the person asking is Bronze. You're better off using points to directly buy a business ticket and you can save a few hundred dollars by using QF partners like CX or AA which only charge $60 or so in fees.

        • So just to confirm. If I use something like kayak/Skyscanner and buy the cheapest flight I can, I most likely won't be able to upgrade that flight with points?

        • @tunzafun001:

QF sucks with points upgrade, in order for a better chance to succeed, the request will need to be put in way before the departure date, and yet will not find out until the week of flying out.

Unless no one else with a higher status has also requested for the same upgrade, otherwise the chance of upgrading is close to zero.

        • @tunzafun001: Qantas has different fare types for each class. I think economy has at least 6. To be able to put in an upgrade request- you can't use a sale airfare.
I just got upgraded to business from economy coming back from LA. Booked my trip a few months before. Rang them up the day before to request a points upgrade. I had to pay $400 to change my economy fare type to the appropriate one. Even after that, I wasn't guaranteed an upgrade so it is a risk

        • @kiribatian: Cheers, any ideas about about other airlines? I don't have the QF version of Anz Black.

        • +1

You don't need full fare economy, you just need to make sure the fare type is upgradable. You generally can't use the super cheapest specials but many of the discounted fares can be upgraded also. It is also quite easy to give yourself a very high chance of upgrade. My last 7 or 8 return flights to the US have always been upgraded. Look for travel days that don't correspond with start or end of business weeks and preferably are days with lower volumes of travellers meaning they nearly always have spare seats.

        • @gromit: Good tips! Out of interest- is this with Qantas and do you have QFF status?

          Fare classes:
          Classic Flight Reward (Economy): X
          Economy Sale: NOQ
          Economy Saver: GKLMS
          Economy Flex: BHY

Classic or Bid Now upgrades are not available for ENOQ classes.

        • -2

It's not true that u need buy a full fare economy ticket period. I dunno where did u get this bs. I tried many times and a lot of them are not full price. As for pecking order, at least u beat all the Qantas staff and still big chance to upgrade to business except in very peak season.
If u use point to buy business class directly, one point is like 1 cent, what do u mean best value?

        • @scratchback: Sorry, should've said non-sale tickets. One point is 1 cent? Have you never heard of Business Award seats before?

        • @magicpies:
Of course I know it,but the best value really depends on the price gap between economy and business. The point to pay is fixed but the price gap could be several thousands dollar different between peak and off peak.

        • +1

@kiribatian: Yes it is with Qantas, MY QFF status tends to be permanently silver (so only one up from base tier) as I generally only do a couple of overseas trips a year and a few domestic which at economy rates very rarely gets me to anything beyond silver status.

        • +1

@tunzafun001: Sorry for the late reply!
I assume you have ANZ Rewards then —> you can transfer to Air NZ Airpoints, Virgin Velocity, Singapore Airlines Krisflyer or Cathay Pacific Asia Miles.

          Asia Miles
          - generally cheaper redemptions in all fare classes than Qantas
          - it may even be cheaper to book Qantas flights through Asia Miles points (both oneworld)
          - only able to upgrade to Business from Economy fare types Y, B, H, K and M (but only if no Premium Economy on the flight) [so not Fare type L, V, S, N, Q]
          - from what I understand you can request an upgrade anytime from when you book (you can even ring up before you book and ask if an upgrade would be available)
          - I personally would think it is a waste of points to upgrade to premium economy which I understand all the flights to HK from Aus do have

        • @kiribatian:

Cheers. So do any of these have an expiry? "Air NZ Airpoints, Virgin Velocity, Singapore Airlines Krisflyer or Cathay Pacific Asia Miles"

I also have Citi Signature and Bank issued AMEX with around 70 000 points on each I'm looking to pool all together somewhere. Most likely next flight will be to Scotland.

        • @tunzafun001: shoot me a PM

        • +1

agree with magicpies 100% . Best value is using point to book business or first. Using points business costa double the points of economy yet when paying cash business is typically 3-4 times more expensive than economy.

      • definitely NOT best value. We just flew return bus class to europe for 400,000 points (maybe up to 420k can't recall) and $1200 in taxes each with emirates. My folks did same with Cathay (80k more points but before the change in points needed) and only cost $500 in taxes.

Bus class return to europe is like 8-10k each. economy less than 2k so around 4-5x cost (so we saved around $6800-8800 for 200,000 points, my parents saved even more due to lower taxes!). For points, if i bought econ tickets it would cost HALF the points, but still the same tax, you would save at most $800 for 100,000 points.

an upgrade each way would be 96,000 points. so 2 people return upgraded all legs 384k points, so yes technically a bit less points, but you've paid more for the ticket, and frankly chance of 2 people being upgraded on all flights are pretty slim, especially given the new bidding system. That and you don't know if you have the upgrade til a day before or even on the day!

booking bus class directly means we had access to chauffeur vehicle pickups and drop offs to airports with Emirates, which was great, as well as knowing you will have lounge access for any long layover (we had 10 hours one way)

Definitely think the smart and best value method is to book business or first directly. With Ozbargains help you can rack up points very quickly. We hope to do bus class trips every 3-5 years once my partner has permanent residency and can also play the game fully. We are also hoping to surprise parents with bus class flights to Aus to visit in a couple of years.

I'm hesitant on this offer as i applied for citibank a couple of months ago and they rejected a 15k card despite 90k salary. I assume because 1. they didn't ask about my savings (I have around 50k in house deposit account) 2. i still have 6k commbank card on top of 8k woolies card. 3. i suspect they misread payslip as i have salary sacrifice deductions which get paid back to me by SS company, but they prolly only looked at nett on payslip which was pretty low.
I had no problem getting this ANZ black card 18 months ago without the commbank card in the mix but also lower salary. I had a good credit rating in high 600's last i checked hoping i can cancel commbank and do this without another reject. also lounge passes handy (beware you can only use if you have qantas flights, not codeshare flights or other) as we have an econ flight next year to US for work.

        When does offer end?

    • With the points from the last round i got a fitbit blaze, still have 50k left

    • A $100 Wish gift card is 16,920 QFF points.

  • Thanks. The only one before was the Westpac deal with fee free and that deal ended a few days ago. Was hoping the ANZ one was going to pop up again.

  • How strict are they with having had cancelled more than 12 months ago do you reckon?

    • +4

Extremely! I applied under the last promo and even though I received the two lounge passes, the points never posted. When I contacted them after spending the 2.5K, they said that I had cancelled the previous card only 10 months and 2 weeks at the time my most recent card was approved.

      • Ahhh, that's disappointing - this is a great deal, disappointed to miss out. Thanks for the reply. Think I've only cancelled back in May this year.

      • I have no idea when i cancelled my ANZ…. probably under 12 months though

        • +1

call them and check. They'll have a record of it

      • I had a different ANZ card, cancelled yesterday. Can I still get points if I didn't have THIS card?

        • +1

Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card within the previous twelve months.

  • +1

    Awesome. Thanks for sharing!

  • Great deal, I went with Westpac a few months ago as ANZ wouldn't drop the annual fee. I guess a few people voted with their feet.

  • +1

Wowee, didn't realise it wasn't posted here…..Its been talked about over at AFF since end of June. Got my card in September, met the spend just after first statement, points still to post.

I opened up an ANZ account at a branch, then applied for the credit card thru internet banking (via products!).

You will find you cant get to the link posted going thru the public credit card pages. Not saying you won't get the pts/no annual fee, but be careful.
Note: If you make enough of a deposit to the ANZ account each month its fee free, or just discuss options with your branch teller to possibly get it fee free! :)

  • +2

I don't get why they don't waive annual fees for those that ask (which is very common in Asia to the point where when you call the general helpline one of the options is "if you're calling to ask for an annual fee waiver, press 4"). Maybe make it a minimum of $X spend a year. Most people will end up inadvertently incurring some overdue or cash advance fees that mean they get their profit without people cancelling to avoid the annual fee. I get that many people will swallow an annual fee of up to $125 because they can't be bothered with the cancellation process but I would have thought most people wouldn't be this lazy with a $400+ fee. But then again, maybe they do and that's why those people aren't on Ozbargains.

    • +1

The $400 fee means one of the highest points per dollar rates you can get, plus no cap on points per month, premium insurances and qantas club passes. It's expensive but for high monthly spenders it can be worth it.

    • +3

"I don't get why they don't waive annual fees for those that ask (which is very common in Asia to the point where when you call the general helpline one of the options is "if you're calling to ask for an annual fee waiver, press 4"). "

      That is amazing.

    • Yep. I hear it's really easy in Singapore. My friend was surprised how difficult it is to do that after she moved here.

  • Only just signed up to this card last month (Sept), Just received the first statement too. Did not receive 75k points however got annual fee waived but had to pay rewards fee.

    • Rewards fee?

      • Just to clarify and to save in case we DO get charged for the Rewards Program Services Fee, here is the full extract that clarifies what is free. In reading the statement below, I would say that the Total Annual Fee (which is free for the first year), includes both the $370 Annual Account Fee and a $55 Rewards Program Services Fee.

        1. Offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card account. This is a limited time only offer which may be withdrawn or changed at any time without notice. This offer applies only once per eligible customer. This is a limited time only offer available through internet banking which may be withdrawn or changed at any time without notice. Your application must be approved and you must activate the card and make $2,500 worth of eligible purchases (purchases which are not eligible to earn Points are described in the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Reward Terms and Conditions (PDF 1.67MB), for example fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers, premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes will not earn Points) within three months of approval to receive the bonus Qantas Points. The bonus Qantas Points will be credited to your ANZ account within three months of the eligible spend criteria being met. If you transfer or cancel your new ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card account before the introductory bonus Qantas Points are processed to your account, you may become ineligible for these bonus Qantas Points. ANZ will not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever resulting from a delay in the process of receiving and/or approving an application or activating the card. The Total Annual Fee, and any Additional Cardholder Fees and Rewards Program Services Fees applicable to additional cardholders on the account, will be waived for the first year. After the first year for ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, a Total Annual Fee of $425 applies which includes a $370 Annual Account Fee and a $55 Rewards Program Services Fee, for additional cardholders an Additional Cardholder Fee of $10 and Rewards Program Services Fee of $55 will apply per additional cardholder on the account. These fees are current as Tuesday, 24 February 2015 and are subject to change. The fee information displayed on this page applies to new customers only. Existing customers may be subject to different fees and should call 13 22 73 for information regarding the fees that apply to their account.
        • +2

This offer applies only once per eligible customer.
I had this card in the past and cancelled back in 2014. Do I still valid to get the bonus 75K QF points?

    • +1

The Total Annual Fee, and any Additional Cardholder Fees and Rewards Program Services Fees applicable to additional cardholders on the account, will be waived for the first year.

Not sure which rewards fee you're referring to…

  • Pity they don't offer a 0% (or low) transfer rate

  • +1

I got too carried away with st George 30k qff deal

  • Thinking of signing up for the Progress Saver account (no monthly fee, $10 minimum deposit) to get this deal. Anyone done the same or managed to get a fee free ANZ account? (Don't feel like depositing $2000 every month…)

    • Just signed up for it, although I probably won't know for a while if there are any fees. Also it said $10 minimum deposit, but I haven't been prompted anywhere to make one yet?

  • -5

Not very attractive, Woolworth Visa card $1 for 1 point and annual fee is 149, and u could ask the fee to be waived once u threaten to cancel. As for the Amex part, Amex has Qantas Amex basic card with 0 annual fee. If u don't spend much, Amex Qantas basic card is enough.if u spend a lot, Amex offers much better card, like grocery shopping 3 points or restaurant 3 points, both can transfer to Qantas point as 1 for 1.also supplemental card is free. ANZ Charles $69 for supplemental card is criminal

    • +2

Surely the 75000 bonus points counts for some value in your eyes… To earn that many points through card transactions on your recommended card with $1:1 point earn, would take several years for the average person. By which time one could probably have applied for another credit card with huge sign-on points bonus.

      • If u wanna earn points, just ask your friends who will apply a new Amex referring u.
Also any new cards offers bonus point too.

  • when applying for this card do you need to prove you earn 75k a year?

    • +1

They ask for two recent payslips or a recent bank statement showing salary deposits.

      • Is there a minimum salary requirement?

        • +1

          yes, 75000 AUD annually

    • +1

They might ask for it, but not necessarily.
Last year I applied for this on a Sunday night around 10pm, did not supply any proof of income, yet I had the approval email in my mailbox Monday morning 7am.
All they had was my employers phone number, but I doubt they talked to them that early on a Monday morning.

  • Any idea on eligibility if you had their platinum card last time? < 12 months though

      • Thank you sir!

      • What about just ANZ Platinum Card??

  • I got a Anz Black (Non Qff one) in May with 75000 points offer. Booked a $2500 snow trip 10mins after I activated the card. Spent maybe $3k more on it since.

How long should it take for the points to come through? Could it be until the anniversary of the card? Ie no bonus points until you pay the annual fee?

    And

What's the best way to transfer the points out so I can cancel/ get on the westpac deals etc.. And wait another 12months for Anz? (I usually fly jetstar, Etihad, Malaysian air, and rarely virgin). Looking to fly to either US or Canada and Europe in next 12 months.

    • +1

Apologies if I've double posted this but I accidently hit something and lost my comment

The points are put into your QFF account so as soon as you receive them you would be able to cancel. If I remember correctly, I received my pints in the month after I competed the spend, so really you only need the card for 3-4 months. I signed up in Feb and I'm still using my black Anz, it has good QFF points rates, cba cut their earned points and Apple Pay works like a treat.

      Great card imo

      • But I have the non Qff version?

  • Does anyone here know whether payments to the ato (tax bill) count as an eligible purchase? Cheers.

  • Is there an easy way to find out when you closed your last card/account? I'm not sure if its been 12 months…

    • +1

Asked and answered above. Call their call centre

  • So maybe a stupid questions - but if I get this credit card and i use it to pay off my existing credit card - would that count towards the $2,500 min spend?

I have the velocity card and we are now using my partners velocity card to get her min spend done. I would like for each of us to get this card as well - but there is just no way we can spend that much

    • +5

Lol no. You can't pay a credit card bill with a credit card.

      • Unless they mean via Balance Transfer.. but generally, balance transfers do not count as spend for the purposes of points accumulation.

        • Tha ks I am new to using credit cards. I use to just use debit and 28 degrees - but now Im jumping on the FFP wholeheartedly

      • You sure can, but it's considered a Cash Advance (unless you specifically apply for Balance Transfer), neither of which are eligible.

  • Do the lounge passee have your name on them? My wife is flying to europe on qantas next year.

    • +1

would be interested to find the answer to that one too!

      • +2

No, there are no names on the ANZ passes. So you can give them to anyone

        • But they need to be on a Qantas or Jetstar Flight. Whereas any flight is eligible for Priority pass (but really only international lounges).

    • No they don't - quite commonly sold on the Classifieds here

    • No, but generally they have a 9-12 months expiry

    • or you can sell them….. unless gumtree has made that completely impossible? they have 12 month expiry from date when you REQUEST them not from when you get the card.

second the booking needing to be QF number, we got turned away with emirates tickets. sold ours for $50 a piece iirc

  • For a normal person on average income is it hard to spend 2500 in three months. Really have no idea what i spend.

    • +1

Prepay a years worth of utility bills. Easy

      • How does one do this? Simply overpay your bills so that your account is in credit?

        • +3

I reckon the answer is yes.
At least I overpaid my SA Water bills before a long trip overseas.
          It worked fine.

    • +1

It's around $850 a month. I don't know what you eat, but my grocery bills cover a fair amount of that already.

You can spend all your utility bills, phone bills, groceries, petrol, eating out, pub, coffee, gym, etc for 3 months with that card, that should definitely cover a fair bit.
Christmas is within 3 months, I hear some people spend some extra money on presents around that time.
If you have a car, there's a 25% chance your vehicle rego falls within that period of time.
Bonus if you are planning a holiday (even a short weekend trip) during that time.

Once you are close to the end of the 3 months and still got money to spend left, you can just buy gift cards for whatever place you usually get your groceries from (or petrol stations even).
Depending on where you live, maybe put a few 100s on your Myki/Opal/whatever card.
Got a prepaid phone where credit doesn't expire? Just top up $100 and be settled for a couple of months.

Still desperate and feeling hardcore? Get some parking fines or speeding tickets and pay with that card :P

  • +1

Thanks for this. Been waiting for it to come back on.
Would recommend updating the description to include the fact people need to earn 75K to be able to apply for the black card.

  • Contemplating doing this, thought I'd post it up to get peoples opinions.

About to buy something for $13,100, the store said they don't charge fees on the first 3k but there's a fee for anything after that
    Amex: 2.55%
    Visa: 1.26%

    It will cost me:
$257.55 to pay on Amex and I’d earn FF 15,150 points
    OR
$127.26 to pay on Visa and I’d earn FF 7,575 points

I know 15k in points isn't worth $250 but I wouldn't have to worry about the $2,500 in the first 3 months though - that normally wouldn't be an issue though.

Just want to see if others think this is a good idea or not

    • +2

what about just pay the first $3k with the AMEX and the rest with a fee-free payment method?
