  • As a reference the new slimmer 360 is priced at $349 RRP with no bonus games but with a 250GB Hard Drive.

    • +1

Also has built in Wireless. So you no longer need to buy the massively overpriced WLAN dongles anymore.

    • +2

      my mistake $449

      • +2

        USD or aussie?

thats the problem, things are cheap in usa but when they translate it to aussie the price skyrockets!

        • 299 in USD, 449 in AUD, quite expensive imho

          • @[Deactivated]: where are you guys getting these prices from? E3 Live or just some speculated fan forums..

            • +1

@Cripto: From Microsoft. Have a look.

                • +2

@Cripto: childish comments like that make Australians look bad

@[Deactivated]: i meant gay fullstop. equiv to damn. if you didn't get me. lol childish way of looking at it much

@Cripto: Why denigrate Americans when your expressions mostly parrot them?

                      • +1

@bargainhunter: He actually meant it as "cheers. gay(.) U.S people get it for exact same price"

                        He's not calling Americans gay.

  • +1

the slim model looks way sexy, as well as built in wifi. but this is still a great deal for an elite

  • +1

What will the slimmer version cost bundled with the new motion sensor ?
When are we likely to see the new console here , It goes on sale in the US this friday .

    • +1

Early July apparently (I believe one article I read said July 1st)

  • +1

IMHO i prefer the current model (360 fat), the slim just reminds me of the wii/asus ebox

EDIT: must have seen a fake photo, the new one is shiny :D

    • the new slim one looks like someone kicked it lol
there is alike a dentt on the side o.O

someone must have dropped it and they thought it looked good

      • Haha probably. It has the same problem as the original PS3 though, looks brilliant till it's ever touched. Matte is a much better finish for a console, so I prefer the original 360, though i prefer the original PS3 too as the slim just seems cheap to me..

  • +1

    http://muppet-modding.com/forum/360-scene-news/12315-250gb-x…

Yeah the stubby looks nice (well it's hardly slim is it?) :)

  • +1

This wouldn't be Jtag'able would it? Still on a desperate hunt for a Jtag'able console and not going to pay $400 like on ebay.

  • +2

WOW Microsoft is so clever!! I was disappointed when they didnt get a slim xbox when sony had the slim ps2 but now they do :D Its clever marketing strategy.

And now it has wifi too also can't believe how good the 360 slim looks.

Edit: Just noticed that Australians finally are able to get something early for once. We're two weeks earlier than europe. Guess the americans must have noticed that our economy is brilliant while its downhill for europe and started paying attention to Australian customers.

  • +1

So is the only technical diff elite vs slim just the hdd size and wireless?

    • +1

and also the console size and new cooler system (not sure)

      • +1

        and apparently a better processor?

        • +1

yea, so i prefer to wait for the slim model instead of taking elite or arcade or pro.

        • +1

better yes, but only because it runs a bit cooler and uses less power

      • +1

5 USB ports instead of 3, completely new motherboard, new drive, casing has vent on side as well as back, slightly smaller power block

        • +3

Cool ok. No deal breaking features then.

        • +2

Still has the external power brick? One word. Fail.

          • +1

@Trance N Dance: yep, still has it

          • +2

@Trance N Dance: One word. Replaceable.

Ever tried to replace the PS3 slim's internal PSU? :p

            • +3

@Sleepycat3: You mean they've failed? Cause I have never had to replace my PS3's PSU. :P

              • +1

@Trance N Dance: Yes, some do fail. It's one of the causes of the YLOD (other than the BD drive laser failing or the CPU solder cracking).

            • @Sleepycat3: You can can nearly buy a new ps3 for the price of an xbox power brick as its so overpriced.

              • @asa79: would be funny … if it were true

    • +1

Sort of… I think it has more USB ports, and it's use a fair bit less power as well.

    • +1

      According to http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2010/06/the-new-xbox-360-fully-det…
It has A custom Kinect port (not a standard USB port – it’s a USB port that can feed more power).

    • +1

Hope it is a lot QUIETER than the current model!!

  • +4

$249 is a good deal .. better than $199 arcade at Target last week.

    • Not if you wanted a console to Jtag :) .

  • +1

    edit: nvm

  • +3

Glad I didn't pick up an Arcade for $200 :s

  • +1

Personally I'd pay the extra $50 and get Halo 3 ODST, Banjo Kazooie, and Bioshock as well. They're all decent games, so if you're new to Xbox at this point in time I'd grab that package.

  • +1

If you can still get your hands on the $10 PS3 Transformers2 @ Dick Smith, JB trades it for $22

    • +1

How do you find out the price list?

      • +1

There isn't one that I know of, I asked in store.

  • -1

hehe rrod after 1 week again for the slim version

    • +1

You would think after the debacle that was the early xbox's this new model would be a lot more reliable . That is what would tip my decision towards the extra cash for the new xbox and that it's supposed to be whisper quiet . Having to pay $450 seems a bit steep without blue ray though .

      • +8

Exactly. Man for anyone that has an Xbox 360, the slim wont technically won't count as an upgrade. It's basically the same thing just more expensive because its slimmer and quieter? If they threw in a GPU upgrade or something, then it makes sense. Slimmer should be cheaper as with the PS3. Touch controls are unnecessary and only make the prices go up. And with the WiFi thing, it was a joke that the original Xbox 360 didn't include built-in WiFi considering that the competition already did - heck even a PSP had in-built WiFi. And considering how much technology evolved since the launch of the 360, it gives Microsoft more incentive to make the slim version cheaper. A more viable price point would have been 350 AUD and no more. $450 is ridiculous.

I own both an Xbox 360 and a PS3 and I hope the Xbox fanboys don't even start to compare the 360 slim to the PS3 slim. They're pretty much even 'cept the PS3 has a BluRay player and 360 slim has a .11n card. Sony did screw the original PS3 by selling it for $699. But they improved it, made it quieter and what not and sold it at a more appropriate price point - $450. But the 360 slim is just another dick move by Microsoft to over-charge again. The costs involved with a 360 are just on-going aren't they? I pay 50 bucks a year for the Xbox Live content and zilch for the PSN content, yet I can find so much free stuff on the PSN. Granted the Live content is sometimes really good but I think Microsoft views it as an act against God to give anything to free or anything at a reasonable price point. GIMME SOMETHING MS. At least a frickin' theme for free!

        • +2

well said, speaking of which ms gave all E3 attendees a free 360 slim.

        • +1

Hi. I already have a PS3 but I am seriously thinking of buying this as it is a bargain. I'm asking you since you own both consoles. Do you think it is worth it to buy an Xbox 360? I can't seem to think of a reason except for the exclusive games that are available only to Xbox 360.

          • +2

@ranmalynx: I was in the same position as you, already have a PS3, and got my hands on a cheap Xbox 360. A week later, I returned it - it was too boring, and everything required payment (online play etc). Don't waste your money

            • +1

@bazza236: Only thing that xbox 360 has over ps3 is that it can be a media extender, if ps3 brings out a extender then it would be the ultimate console.

              • +1

@asa79: what about using ps3 media server?

                • @tomsco: Its ok, but it doesnt bring your WMC

          • @ranmalynx: xbox live is way, way better than ps3, but it comes at a cost, naturally

            • @infernal_max: A fool and his money are soon departed.

            • +1

@infernal_max: "xbox live is way, way better than ps3, but it comes at a cost, naturally"

              I dont agree with "naturally".
Online content shouldn't cost extra, over the games and consol.

          • +5

@ranmalynx: ranmalynx, the reason I got an Xbox is because when I bought the PS3, it was way too expensive. I was the only one among my friends that had the PS3. Everyone else bought the Xbox. So whenever I wanted to play online, I had to play with strangers. The Xbox is an excellent console. Sure, you gotta pay for a lot of crap, but when it comes down to it they do provide excellent content. At the end of the day, it totally depends on why you want to buy the Xbox.

There's only 2 reasons to buy the Xbox if you've got the PS3. One, exclusive games that you cannot help but check out. 2, to play online with friends who don't own a PS3 (like me). If neither of those reasons fits you, then don't get the Xbox. Because in every single other area, the PS3 is the superior console. If you find someone that disagrees, then they're speaking with a fanboy mentality or are severely delusional (that mostly means the same thing anyway).

With Xbox users however, there's always a reason to own the PS3. Not only do you get access to some of the most exciting exclusive games as well, you get a BluRay player and the PS3 is a way more awesome multimedia hub (plays more video formats and HD content other than WMVHD), already has WiFi, the hard-drive is dead easy to upgrade and mostly dead-cheap and it can as double as a PVR with PlayTV. PS3 does a whole lot more but I bought the Xbox because of Gears of War and some other exclusive games and to play with my friends who bought the cheaper console.

            • @ragflan: Thanks for the reply Ragflan! It's definitely gonna help me in making the decision to buy or not to buy.

              • @ranmalynx: Glad to help man. Anyway, just read the E3 announcement about Playstation Plus. I just know that if PSN is expecting me to pay, they better give me better games and content.

            • @ragflan: I have both consoles. I agree!

        • -1

ummm… your comment on the competiton already having wifi in when the 360 was released… what console are you referring to? the 360 was the first of this current generation… so you're wrong…

anyway… this is a good deal for people that are needing a console now… i will be changing to the new 250gb 360 as its much nicer looking and i could use the extra storage

          • +1

@KRiSX: It's rather ridiculous that it didn't have it from day one, built in. He mentioned other consoles that have it, like the PSP, and I'll throw in the Nintendo DS too (yes the PHAT one released in 2004).

I actually paid $100 or so for the WiFi adapter, because I couldn't get a LAN cable into the other room, and it honestly is the biggest rort. Grrrr.

If I was in the market today, I'd get the newer one, but I bought the original one only a few months ago. I don't like the touch sensitive buttons, but overall it is an improvement.

            • @jwh: Hey KRiSX. What are you high on? Man seriously, what is it with some of the OzBargainers today? Enlighten me: Which pre-slim Xbox 360 model has in-built wifi? The custom-made 360 KRiSX-PRO model?

Xbox never had BUILT-IN wifi. Learn to read. You had to pay an additional 100-150 bucks for it and no third-party adapters worked. If you paid 150 bucks for the Xbox 360 when the PS3 was first released, the price difference between the fat PS3 and the Xbox Elite would have been negligible.

Every other console includes WiFi it as part of the package and as part of the price. PS3 has in-built WiFi. Wii does. PSP, a portable device, has it as well. Xbox 360 still doesn't. Only the upcoming slim 360 has WiFi built in. I still recommend to anyone getting the Xbox to get this deal instead of the new slim console. Slim consoles are only expensive because they include WiFi, something Microsoft should have included in the first place. If it had some Kinect-only functionality, then I would say yeah, 400-450 without any games is justified. But that's not true either.

Can we play online with other Xbox users free of charge?

    • -3

      Troll much?

      • What do u mean?

        • +3

He means you're asking a question that everyone already knows the answer to.

    • +2

Better question is can we buy it and know that $ony, uhhh sorry I mean M$ will not remove any important features so that they can free up an extra core in order to play new games and blame it on a Brazilian kid hacking it?

      • Which features that were important were removed?

        • +1

The ability to install Linux on the PS3 was removed. It's important to some users. Regardless of how useless a feature it is to the majority, it still doesn't give Sony the right to remove a feature that was a part of the console that was sold to us. Sony should have at least let users opt out of this upgrade.

          • @ragflan: But thats not an important feature. I had a Fat PS3 and now a Slim PS3 and not once did I install linux on it. I have a laptop and a HTPC that run much quicker and look better.

  • -3

IMO of the new slim…. only at the hip? If you want a piano black casing… just get one on ebay…

n the hdd is internal… will it void warranty to change a hdd…? do we have to send it to MS to get a hdd change?

n for usb ports? I thought u can use usb hubs?

on a side note… kinect is just a lame name ><

So I think this is a good buy!

    • not very persuasive.. are you trying to get rid of 360 fat stock?

      • -1

I don't work for JB HI-FI, I'm just posting the deal.

          • @AntMan76: dam they really need the faint lines on the reply structure, going to request it now at the forums

            • @Cripto: lol no I dun work at retail~ if u stalk me u will find I post a post a while back looking for a cheap 360 @@ n I've bought a pro for 299… so Im just simply giving my own opinion @@ But seriously… the slim looks ghey…

              • +1

@mikkim4eva: o ok, yeah if i bought a pro for 299 i would be saying the same thing

                • @Cripto: yep, u are not the first person that says Im dumb to buy just the console for 299 XD

    • If you watched the unboxing video you would see that you can change the HDD it's just not compatible with the original xbox ones.

  • +1

Does it come with a 120gb or 250gb HDD?

  • +2

Anyone wanna tell me what JTag is ? =\ lol

  • Well my money is on the slim drive not being hacked for a while - so buying an easily hackable Elite for $249 seems like a smart move….

    • You still cant play hacked xbox on xbox live anyway so your functionaly is reduced

  • +1

Most of the comments here belong in the forums :)

    But good deal!
