alternatively: https://www.teds.com.au/tamron-18-200mm-sony-a-mount-ex-demo @$99 for a $200 saving ($89 delivered if you get the popup on Ted's page)
yes, new vs demo, but may appeal to someone who finds $298 a stretch

credit TA's deal earlier in the year: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/228475
… it appears items are now available again

    • Yeah I've had that in my shopping cart since that deal, haven't bothered to push the button yet. Would be a good travel lens but I really don't need it…

    I am sure it's another pricing error…

18- between 200 and 300 is a compromise - convenience at the cost of image quality. If you pixel peep do yourself a favour and stay away from these. If you're posting to Facebook and printing small and don't care too much about quality this might be fine (but I would question why you'd want to carry a DSLR under those circumstances). Learnt this the hard way with a Tamron 28-300XR when I first started out with DSLR, which is in the same sort of category.

This is the oldest of the APS-C crop superzooms. Slow AF and more importantly the focus motor is loud and noisy. Not a bargain at $300 IMO ($500 is clearly a joke). Also just saw that you can get it Brand New at digidirect or DWI for $200 for the lens alone. Why would you spend $100 for an extra bag and strap??

Why would you spend $100 for an extra bag and strap??

And 2yrs local warranty. That's up to the buyers, and it's always something they need to weigh up

FFS negging because of a cheaper grey-import, vs local stock. Wow..

      • Digidirect is not grey import.

The bag, around $50+ here and here
The strap, $58 here (and most places seem to be $50+)

Your neg is invalid, you're not even comparing pricing of the bundle. And grey vs local.

      • So you're saving $8 and getting a free cheap filter and cleaning cloth kit? Yeah, still not a bargain. Youre still spending $300 on an almost 12 year old lens. Also I highly doubt there is any OzBargainer that would be interested in those 2 overpriced bag and strap for those retail prices in the first place.

My advice to anyone after a dslr superzoom is to avoid this lens (especially at this price). The newer Tamron 18-270 and 16-300 have better IQ, better build and silent focus motors.

I would recommend this instead…much better lens, and cheaper:

  • Anyone find any deals on a travel lens for a Sony E Mount?

    • What's a travel lens?

      • For travel esp always moving with groups, I'm happy with my compact 18-200mm Sony lens on APCS camera. Saves a lot of lens swapping. It would be great if f stop were lower but for this price I cant complain.

        • The Sony 18-200 is over $1k. I don't consider that cheap and would want F2.8 for that money. I probably wouldn't get it, but that's what I would want.

      • I think they are referring to a lens which covers a lot of focal lengths from wide to zoom like 18-200 or 18-300 so if traveling you only need to take one lens as opposed to multiple prime lenses or shorter zoom lenses.
