So we just randomly call Staples and ask for the Business Portal pricing?

  • +9

even taking the price into account, 64GB storage is next to unusable IMHO.

    • agreed

    • +5

I'm more interested in that Pro 3 i5 128GB for $650 - seems like a great price if the accessories are included

    • +6

It works well for browsing OzBargain…

        • +2

Looks like you copped his votes.

    • +17

I had office professional, adobe lightroom and photoshop cs6 on my 64gb SP2. Plus the microSD slot allows you to add a 128gb 95mb/second card quite easily.

      Good enough for me.

      • you just slapped him/her loudly :D

        • +1

What did the 5 fingers say to the face?

        • @Jackson: I know I know… "Talk to my hand !"

    • -1

Exactly this. You'd need at least 256 GB for any desktop replacement.

      • +2

Why? My desktop has a 128GB SSD and it's fine. Even my work laptop, which is filled with everything for supporting many different customers, all the random files that I accumulate, and has all the corporate SOE bloat, is only using 165GB of its drive.

        • Games and application suites?

        • +8

          @ronnknee:

          Solitaire?

        • +2

          Pr0n

        • +1

@ronnknee: I have a 128gb ssd in my desktop (really must upgrade), but its taken about 5yrs to get to the point where I need more space. It's been fine, but steam games and their dreaded updates are the killer. CSGO 16gb, Rocket League 5gb…

If it's a device not heavily geared towards gaming then I think you could manage 128gb, I use LR and PS also, and they're not too big.

        • @dunker56: Steam lets you change the location of the install directory at any time. The idea being to only put your current game/s(if they require the speed boost) on the ssd and other games on another drive.

    • +1

you do have sd card though. I would recommend sp3 i3 over any sp3 because higher end processor have lower on-battery time and lot of throttling on them(i5/i7 get slower than i3 when fans are on).

I am using i3 sp3 for my university. Take all notes on it, watch some videos and even play games from sd card class 10. I playl4d2, dots 2 and devil may cry 3 on it. Have around 26 go free on c drive(although one drive have 14 gb used and only important bit synced. About 1 gb). 64 gb sd card have around 10gb free.

  • Thanks for the effort

  • +2

you could buy them all and drop ship to us

  • +1

should I call and ask for Michael?

    • +3

      Tell them jv sent you

      • Tell them jv sent you to ask "where's the bargain?"

  • +6

I just bought one not that hard great deal thanks

    • Any shipping cost?

      • +6

        Free shipping above $55

    • +1

Good one, what price did they give you?

      • -7

        Yes.

      • +1

$499.02 for the i3 model and type cover 3 cyan

        • Cover is nice. Did it include the Pro 3 pen as well?

        • @railspider:not sure

        • +4

Your actual price will be $548.92c - still an excellent price, but note that even though they may not mention GST during the call, it will appear on your receipt. This is because it is actually a "commercial sale" and that is the way it is normally done (prices quoted ex-GST), so you can't really complain about it.

    • How did you go about ordering it?

      • It's about a 15 minute phone call before you get anywhere. Suggest signing up on StaplesAdvantage / NetXpress first. I'm not even sure it's available any more (I think they might have pulled it, or it's only available to people with approved/existing accounts). Apparently stock is only in NSW. Said they'd call me back in 24 hours, so not liking my chances as a new customer.

        • Did you put a random company?

        • +1

@bargainist: my own name, said Sole Trader

        • @Lukian:

If only you put Better Caul Sole.. Haha lol

  • Is the i5 worth the extra $200 over the i3. I assume both accept an sd card to increase storage

    • Yes it is worth it but out of stock last 2 sold yesterday

    • +5

I saw an in-depth review that showed only a minuscule real-world performance difference between the i3 and i5 and better battery life with the i3.

      • Do you remember where you saw this

        • @NeoM:

          I can't find it sorry.

It was quite long and in depth. They ran extended tests in excel, playing movies, photoshop or something similar, boot time, etc etc. Everyday tasks had microsecond differences. Process jobs had seconds of difference.

In summary it showed the i5 and i7 as performing only incrementally better than the i3 but with drawbacks in power; and recommended the i3.

      • I heard somewhere that Surface 3 and Pro i3 performance difference is also not significant.

I own Surface 3 and might consider upgrade if I could get something with at least similar lasting battery.

    • "I assume both accept an sd card to increase storage"

It's Micro SD, but yes, all Surface Pro models have a Micro SD slot.

  • There's a few other items on clearance, OP any chance you could post the prices for us

    http://netxpress.biz/main-catalogue-search?N=8138&Ntt=surfac…

The stock if the i3 Surface is falling before my eyes, down from 93 to 89 in a few minutes

    • When I spoke to them around an hour ago there was 100 i3 surface pro's and 18 type 3 keyboards so be quick

      • Down to about 85 now ;-)

Heaps of "Purple" keyboards though, if the "Cyan" run out.

  • +7

Note : The prices quoted are "commercial" and hence are PRE-GST Prices - They will charge you GST on your order (probably without mentioning it)

    • +2

Ex-GST is the proper term :p

      • +2

I used that term up higher before you corrected me ;-)
But "pre" makes sense too as in "Pre-Tax Price", because it is the price before they add the Goods and Services Tax.
ExGST sometimes means GST is never added, as per the way my business buys things.

I guess you are a sort of GSTrammar Nazi - hahaha

        • It looks like my warning is unnecessary now anyway.
The title has been updated to reflect the fact that GST will be added to the price :-)

Also note, that the stock levels reported on the site, were exactly what the phone operators were reporting as their stock levels.

  • How do I see the prices, it's not on the website?

  • Seems to have disappeared now.

  • +3

Staples position themselves as more of a business supplier so they ONLY deliver to you via their own vehicles. You are not allowed to pick it up from the depot etc. ( I tried that as well as begging them to post it. They feel it is too insecure and were very keen to offer to have their auditor explain to me why post was evil) You have to be home all day and wait for the van. This is why I will not buy from Staples. Products are easily purchased and paid for but the last mile is not any use to some people. They join my list of no go's for online shopping. (Sony!)
Just spent 30 mins on hold on my mobile getting Toll to change delivery address. I never thought I would say this but Aus Post does the best job of delivering online goods to regular people who are working during the day. Sorry for the rant but some retailers just can't grasp the concept of getting the item to you after they take your money. A bargain is not a bargain if you can't get it into your hands or you have to go out of our way to try and arrange a collection. At least Toll have newsagents for collection points.

    • The best solution is to live in a building that has a concierge, I never have to worry about this! Even DHL let them sign the packages.

      • +6

LOLS. I should have a butler to go down and bring it upstairs too :-)

        • Yep exactly…ive been waiting for a bargain on one of those here…unfortunately ive only been finding deals on xbox one s

        • Cracked me up.

    • +2

      Agree

But can't you have it delivered to your work address instead?

      • +1

Would be interested to see if many workplaces allow deliveries of private goods. I know mine doesn't. Can't blame them as there are over 100 people there at any given time. If your work allows it I would say you are quite lucky.

        • I've never worked anywhere that didn't allow it, misus the same! We do all our christmas shopping online and send to work!

        • Everywhere I've worked allows it. They wouldn't know it's personal, it's just a package that arrives for you.

        • Fyi mine allows it all the time.over 100 people in the office. So we have a few online shoppers like me in the office.

        • +1

some do. some dont. my current does. my previous one didn't.

        • +2

I bought an exhaust pipe online once and the guys in the dock were trying to guess what kind of car it was from.. I carried it in the office to my desk in a suit… haha

        • Most people have no problem with deliveries to their work address.

  • -1

So only the i3 version left?

  • +1

Thanks OP. just ordered the i3 version with the Cyan cover.
Am getting it this thursday !
But, he told me it can arrive anytime between 9 -5 ! :-)

  • So, do you need to have an account? Do you have to be in nsw? What's the shipping cost?

    • +1

Unknown (yes with an established account, based on my experience), unknown (tentative yes), free over $55

(If you read the comments above, you'll reach the same answers)

Comparatively: Dell outlet is much easier to order from (for a new customer).

    • +1

nope, did not have an account. just called up.. enquired with the model number,
initially the guy said its clearance and may not be in stock, i insisted that i could see more than 80 in stock,
he rechecked for NSW stock, and got the name/address etc. (may be he created an account ?) and i paid over the phone with credit card.

Do you need to be in NSW ? -> may be ? he checked for the NSW stock

Hopefully i get it thursday !

  • I'm surprised they didn't require mail in order.

  • +1

I've got the 64GB SP1, and with windows on it and the backup partition taking up most space, you get barely anything left…
You can work around it, using the SD for space but it's a hassle to use it for programs and micromanaging the minimal space on it.

  • +1

Ended up being able to order it after being on hold for a while.

Originally tried the i3 Combo with the Type cover but that is $770 inc GST, changed it to the normal one with the type cover and ended up at $548.90 inc GST.
Checked my credit card and was charged $770, but hoping that it was due to trying that first, she did say the order is $499 plus GST.

Awaiting my confirmation email before ringing them back as there was a long wait on hold to get answered.

    • Do you know which model is available? is the 128gb model avail?

      • link in body

  • Has anyone received their confirmation email? I am still waiting for nearly 2 hours after they said it would take 10 minutes.
I am wondering if it is an issue with my works exchange server!

  • +1

ordered one via phone, call went right through asked if I had an account said no this is a cash sale. qty reduced from 59 to 58 after my order went through :-)

    • so free delivery? Are any of you guys in VIC? also, is it worthwhile upgrading the ram is these things or is it even possible?

  • 37 left

  • Seems like there's a lot more model now, how can I see the price without login?

  • +1

Just noticed that the surface pro i3 model is windows 8.1 not windows 10 according to the description on their website. So if you were looking for a device with windows 10 then this may not be the one for you.

    • It can be migrated to windows 10

  • Has anyone had a shipment notification at all? I only ordered today so not really expecting it before Christmas, would be lovely if it was and I do hope it'll ship tomorrow for Overnight delivery!

    • i ordered wed morning and got it sometime today… was insanely fast

      • Where abouts are you? I ordered Wednesday at about 9am and I am supposed to see it tomorrow, fingers crossed it turns up!

        • syd 2761

        • @krisspy:

I am not too far from there, so hopefully tomorrow is the day! Be nice to have it for Xmas as I am at the Inlaws.

        • @Mattycee: It'll be in no doubt tomorrow. Delivery says it came from erskine park

  • Ended up buying one too. Now need help finding a micro SD card - what is the best/fastest to get? Any suggestions for delay ATM? Thinking maybe 64gb (128 seem a little excessive). What class will give best noticeable performance?

Something like that gives 20MB/s write speed. The Pros give around 80MB/s from memory.

      • So is 20mb write, 80mb/s read fast enough? Say for storing videos for example

        • Depends on how long you want to wait? Bigger files will take longer to write.

I am whacking in the 128GB card once mine arrives. Works fine for my uses.
