Thanks , do you know if it is smart phone adaptable?. Nice pickup op.

    • +2

You'll need a mounting bracket like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Camera-Stand-Clip-Bracket-Holder-… which screws into the top of the tripod

I have one of these; it's ok, bit weird to use but gets the job done. If it's an expensive phone, I'd probably recommend something more sturdy though

      • +1

I use the bracket that comes with selfie stick from Kmart

  • +2

Bought it for $9 last time, it may not be strong enough for heavy gears be careful.

I only use it with mirrorless camera.

    • how is it with the mirrorless?
      ok in winds?

      • +1

It will fall over in the wind. Normally lean a heavy bag against the wind when taking timer shots.

      • +2

        Only indoor.

        • Ok thanks. Will skip this one

  • +1

$29 @ JB and based on the reviews it is supper wobbly!
I also used to have a larger size Inca tripod and it was almost impossible to fix and align the camera on that thing.

    • But what about breakfast and lunch?

    • Diff model (i330G vs i3130B) but prob close enough…

  • +3

great deal if youre just learning photography / phone-ography OR if you just need a casual tripod stand for shooting e.g. family photos which you don't want to ask someone else to press the button…
I think this is needless to say but not suitable for the prosumer level

Any slight movement translates to moving of the camera at anything less than 1/30 shutter speed giving movement blur.
Absolute nightmare to use. I use it for my separate wireless flash (which it serves the job, but almost broke the flash after a gust of wind blew it over…) I'm more careful now.

not suitable for the prosumer level

Prosumer is a word?! Man, after all these years of OzBargaining, how did I not know of this word?

      • -1

It's a (profanity) ridiculous word that was originally coined to describe a scenario in which a consumer would have some input into the design/production process but is now mostly used by tossers who like to self-identify as "serious" or "refined" or "advanced" or "demanding" consumers but are still ultimately just being spoon-fed like everyone else (sure, generally with a more "premium", higher-priced mass-produced baby formula that remains subject to typical forms of market segmentation).

Haha someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed!

        • +1

          @Dan83:

Yeah. I'm OK now though :)

    • I was meant to say > 1/30s shutter speed

tl;dr don't buy it, it's shit unless you have a need for a shit tripod.

  • +8

These are garbage. Cheap build and very flimsy. Wobbly and creaky when fully extended. I would not recommend putting anything of value on this.

    • +3

I would not recommend putting anything of value on this.

      Perfect.

      *mounts GoPro**

      :P

      • +2

you mean the $1300 iphone which I just bought?

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

  • +3

Bought it during the 2015 deal.. Works really well with my Nikon D3300.. Yes it is not the most durable in terms of quality but for the price, you just can't go wrong.. I would definitely recommend it..

    • +2

Exact same setup, and its great for some random shots here and there. I wouldn't recommend it to a pro photographer though.

    • Mate, i have Nikon D5300, I was worried that this would be wobbly for 5300. How is the stability ? I see the weight & dimension of D3300 is 430g. 124 x 98 x 76 mm, whereas D5300 is around 50 gm more 480g. 125 x 98 x 76 mm

      • +2

You paid that much of money for D5300 I would suggest you get a better one for outdoor use.

  • +1

Thanks been looking for a smaller tripod which would fit into my bag. This is perfect

  • +4

Good to mount LED lights, flashes, mobile phones and action cam:)

    • +1

Agreed - great for GoPro timelapse

  • +1

Can it be used for smaller point and shoot cameras?

    • +2

Someone about said it's fine with mirrorless, and they weigh more, so I'd say yes.

I'd be suspending this from something though, as warranty doesn't cover your camera if you drop it.

  • +1

Bit unstable with a heavy lens/camera, but it works well. The weight is fantastic, I've taken it hiking before and it was really convenient to have. I'd probably want a sturdier/taller one though for other uses if I didn't need to carry it a long distance.

  • Seems you get what you pay for

  • +2

I saw this on PriceHipster yesterday and bought it as a last Christmas present for a friend who has a mirrorless. You definitely get what you pay for and I wouldn't use it for a DSLR but for a casual shooter who just wants something to take photos of their family around the house, this is perfect!

  • +1

Tripods with braces are usually super flimsy (hence requiring braces to improve stability).

Unless it is for studio and large format cameras, those heavy duty ones have braces too, but they're at the other end of the spectrum.

If you bother to carry a tripod, might as well carry something decent.

  • +1

I think everyone is getting to caught up saying its not great. it's quite simply for nothing more than a compact camera really :)

  • +1

Bought one in the last HN sale for $9. No complaints for the price, adequately sturdy for my Fujifilm X-A1 mirrorless with a 16-50mm zoom lens (about 600 grams all up). Two of the rubber feet fell off and needed gluing back on. Easy fix.

    • Don,t you hate it when your rubbers fall off.

      • Gaffer tape is your friend.

  • +1

Just node that this model doesn't have the quick release plate.

  • +2

    Got one!

  • +2

Good for the price (I've had one for a couple of years).

If you're thinking of using it for video I wouldn't bother, the head is terrible for stabilisation.

  • +1

Thanks! ordered last night and just got a message that it's now ready for pickup.

  • -1

These are slightly better than having 3 piece of plywood jointed together

  • I rather get a Manfrotto tripod

    • me too for $10 :/

    • For $10?

  • +1

Bought one of these to use as a Vive base station/lighthouse mount. No complaints so far.

  • +1

I have one. It's a no-frills way of getting the job done.

  • +1

These are great for travelling and using with a GoPro or Mobile phone.

  • +1

A bit late on this one; I picked these up as an antenna mount as radio is a hobby of mine. These are SUPER flimsy and are fine for what I want to do with them, but I wouldn't even load this up with a cheap DSLR.
